A TASTE OF THE
Beach FOR THE
Holidays By Destiny Brown
B
ring a special addition to the holiday table this year that your family and friends will remember for holidays to come. There are a variety of restaurants and shops at the beach that offer everything from locally grown sweet potatoes to homemade sausages, from alcohol infused cakes to homemade casseroles and much more. We asked a few of the beach’s local chefs, farmers markets, and bakers why a unique taste from the beach is the perfect addition to the holidays. During the holidays, it’s important to spend time with your loved ones. The hassle to shop for the right recipes and ingredients to satisfy your family can be dealt with in a much easier way; by letting someone else do the cooking for you. Sarah’s Homemade in Gulf Shores is based on that convenience. The locally owned bakery and deli offers everything from chicken salad to chocolate chip cookies to premade casseroles and more, making it a perfect stop for the holidays. The goal of Sarah’s Homemade is for the customer to get to spend more time with their family and friends without the hassle of cooking and cleaning. That’s why all of Sarah’s dishes are served in foil pans with cellophane wrapping, making the dishes easy to dispose when empty. During the holidays, the demand for Sarah’s chicken n’ dumplings and sausage gumbo reaches it’s highest. The dumplings are usually made every Tuesday and are sold out and on a wait list by the end of the day. “For the holidays, we also sell a lot of chicken pot pies, eight to 10 different casseroles, special decorative Christmas cookies

and pound cakes,” said Sarah Bradley, founder and head chef of Sarah’s Homemade. Everything made at Sarah’s Homemade is a family recipe and is made from scratch. “We have homey and feel good food, which is really helpful around the holidays,” Bradley said. “If you’re local or come from out of town, don’t spend your time going to the grocery store, spend time with your family and let us do the work.” All of Sarah’s dishes are served in either a small size, which serves two or a large size which has four to six servings. All dishes are freezable, which is convenient for those going on long trips or getting their holiday meal shopping finished in advance. After the meal, comes the sweet tooth’s demands. There are many bakeries at the beach that offer a variety of goods that will leave your guests happy. If you’re looking to add something totally unique, fresh and delicious to your holiday table, try an alcohol infused cake from Rum Sisters in Gulf Shores. The locally owned bakery specializes in gourmet alcohol infused cakes and have a menu that includes homemade recipes like the Bushwhacker Rum Cake and the satsuma liquor infused Sunset Swizzle. We asked the Rum Sisters why their cakes make a great new tradition for the family for the holidays. “First of all, it’s homemade. Second, it’s easy to access. You can order online or drop into the store,” said Elizabeth Jones, co-owner of Rum Sisters. “People are so tied up at the holidays and there’s so much stress. To just be able to walk in and get dessert is key. You’re not having to worry about getting all of the ingredients and you’re getting a taste of something that’s much more at home than the local grocery stores.” Other than the convenience, the Rum Sisters also want to bring a holiday experience. “It’s not just the simplicity, it’s the experience of that it brings to the table,” said Kelly O’Sullivan, co-owner of Rum Sisters. “I have people who post online that have brought a cake to a party or other gathering and that’s all they can talk about. And that’s what we hope to help people have and experience during the holidays.” The cakes are moist, delicious and come in three sizes: petite, small and large. All of the flavors are available in gluten free and sugar free versions. The store offers online services and delivers anywhere in the country. “We get these cakes, which are so moist, to your door. And we’ve just added additional options for shopping which gets it there faster and cheaper,” O’Sullivan said. “Our large cakes make great custom gifts for the holidays.” The Rum Sisters package each cake with love and rum and also offer custom holiday cards. Because of the agriculture in Baldwin County, there are many places at the beach that make it easy to shop locally for fresh holiday ingredients. Forland Family Market is a disturber of locally made products that local farmers have recently harvested or prepared. From eggs to goat milk to cheese to coffee, all products are Alabama local or are Amish made with natural ingredients and preservatives. The Forland family, owners of Forland Family Market, own a farm in Robertsdale and know the ins and outs of seasonal GulfVisitorGuide.com

produce. Forland Farms sells fresh CSA boxes, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture boxes. Each week, customers receive a box of fresh items from local farms. A half dozen fresh hard eggs and one type of hydroponically grown lettuce by Craine Creek farms in Loxley are in the boxes ever week and the rest changes depending on what’s seasonally available. “This week they had butternut squash, zucchini, eggs, lettuce, satsumas, golden new potatoes and snap beans,” said Michelle Forland, co-owner of Forland Family Market. One produce box feeds two to three people and is sold Monday through Wednesday. There is no contract and you are reminded to reorder your box each week via email. Boxes need to be reserved two to three days in advance to make sure everything is delivered fresh and the local farmers know just how much to harvest. Items like seafood and fresh breads are often in the boxes also, so preordering keeps quality items fresh. Boxes start at $20. The CSA boxes and other local items, make it easier to get local fresh ingredients for your holiday table. Shopping locally can not only support local businesses, but also support local farmers that are harvesting the sweet potatoes and peas for your holiday feast. “A lot of good things come in season during the holidays to cook for Thanksgiving. For example, in November we like to get greens and local sweet potatoes, which now is the growing season for all of that stuff so they should be able to find it fresh.” This year, the biggest seller has been tomatoes from Sand Mountain which is a really good area with iron rich soil. Another popular item for the holidays has been Baldwin County sweet potatoes and satsumas. The local bakeries, markets and restaurants in the area make it easy to shop locally and find new local products to surprise your family during the holidays. Take advantage of the tasty treasures that are right here at the beach.

Anthony Jones ... Well Worth A Visit! Voted The Best Salon in Baldwin County in 2014
It was a beauful summer morning when we le Fairhope, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky. We were on our way down to Orange Beach to check out a business that many of our friends have told us about, this Englishman who had opened a Hair Salon on the beach with his daughter Emma. My hair is very important to me and geng a good haircut is a must, and that is what Anthony Jones is known for and excellent hair color to boot. We have both been very dissasfied with the last few aempts on designing our hair to suit our lifestyles; most of the so called stylists did not take into consideraon our age or understand that we both want to look great without a lot of fuss and bother. The traffic was a bit heavy due to the summer visitors, but we arrived on me to this charming yellow and white beach house on the beach road with a fabulous view of the Gulf of Mexico. We were greeted warmly by Anthony and Emma and they ask us if we would like a cold drink or a glass of wine before he started making us beauful. Pam, my friend, went first since I was a lile chicken aer the last experiences. Anthony directed her to a styling chair and went on to explain the ten most important rules in designing a custom hairstyle to suit her. He first looked at her face shape and explained that there are five face shapes out there and told her her face shape was oval. The next was bone structure and head shape, aer that was the type of her hair, the texture of her hair, then what sort of condion her hair was in, followed by the way the hair grows out of the head, plus cow licks, then her likes and dislikes and fashion. Wow! What a lot of things to get right. So then Emma started with a relaxing shampoo and deep condioning, then for the next 30 minutes Anthony’s hands were a sea of moon, lastly a quick blow dry with hardly any fuss and presto she was finished! She was so happy and she could not believe the difference in her hair. GulfVisitorGuide.com
Now it was my turn, my hair especially in the summer gets very frizzy and dry; I have tried everything out there for my hair with no success! Anthony explained that commercial hair products are made different to professional hair products. Commercial shampoos are made of mild detergent and the condioners are based on petroleum oil. Where professional hair products are pure and natural and give back to the hair, he also went on to say that we should all wash our hair every day and condion our hair the same. Anthony explained that at all mes our hair has to have at least 8% moisture in it the same as our skin, we should treat our hair the same way as we treat our skin, by moisturizing it every day which made a lot of sense to me, since the last stylist told me not to wash my hair every day because in her mind it would dry it out. Anthony explained to me that yes using some drug store products would dry your hair out if washed daily. Aer we went through the ten rules, he took me to the shampoo area and treated me to the best shampoo and condioning my hair had ever had. While shampooing, Emma explained to me what I should do in the morning in the shower, again stressing no over-thecounter hair products, that’s why my hair is dry and frizzy. Aer shampooing and before condioning, towel blot the hair because the hair is porous like a sponge, pung any condioner on one’s hair when it is full of water will not go into the hair itself, so blot it first then apply the product and leave it in while you are washing yourself. Then before you leave the shower, rinse and count up to 10 slowly and stop, just rinse the excess and no more. Aer she explained to me the hows & whys, I understood. They are like hair doctors, if we listen and do what they says it works! Anthony has his own line of products and everything he used on me was his and believe me the stuff works. The cut he gave me was wonderful; I walked out a new woman and so did Pam, no more frizzes! Oh, by the way he used a great product before he dried my hair called “POTION.” It is a gel with a lot of healing features with body, fabulous! I bought a bole. Best money we ever spent and yes, we are definitely going back. He is a true professional.
Well worth a visit!

t’s time again for the annual songwriters event that attracts hit songwriters and original music patrons from all over. The Frank Brown International Songwriter’s Festival will once again hold it’s two week long music festival on the Gulf Coast. The festival is dedicated to the late Frank Brown, who was night watchman at the Flora-Bama for 28 years. During this festival, Grammy Award winning songwriters and the up and coming stars of tomorrow come into the spotlight to perform original songs in multiple locations in beautiful Perdido Key and Pensacola, Florida and Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama. “It’s neat because it’s a different take on these songs. You know all of these famous songs, but a lot of people don’t know the background of how the song was written, what they’re really writing about or the people who wrote it,” said Jenifer SurfaceIvey, public and community relations director for Flora-Bama. Festival attendees enjoy an up close and personal concert experience and are often able to learn the stories behind the songs as told by the original author. A little over 20 venues of all kinds welcome the nearly 200 songwriters that come from around the country and around the world. Whether you are looking for a “listening room” experience, a pleasant dinner and music venue, a family friendly musical adventure or a gritty
roadhouse, FBISF has a place for you. There a few additions to this years event. This year on Nov. 6, there will be a Hall of Fame Show at West Florida College in Pensacola. All songwriters in this concert have No. 1 singles. For the second year, the Hank Cochran Tribute will be held at Flora-Bama. This year, songwriters Dean Dillon Jamey Johnson and Scott Emrich will take the stage to perform a few of Cochran’s hits. The event will cost $10 and will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14 of the festival. “I always notice as I talk to people throughout the year that they are planning ahead and planning every year to come back to this festival,” Surface-Ivey said. “And they tell others and bring new people back.” When you hear Flora-Bama, most songwriters automatically think of the Frank Brown. “It’s neat for them to come and meet other songwriters or songwriter friends they haven’t seen in a long time,” SurfaceIvey said. “It seems like they wait for it all year and love it.” Most venues are free to attend; a few charge a modest cover at the door. For more information please visit www.fbisf.com or call 850492-0611.

Bywater Bistro
TO OPEN IN GULF SHORES
J
By Destiny Brown
ohn Helmers always knew that he wanted to retire to the beach. Ever since he and his wife began visiting the area 20 years ago, their ideal plan was to eventually open up a restaurant on the island. The couple previously owned a restaurant in Camden, Alabama and hope to bring the same local, small town feeling to their new dining venue, but for a few more people. “We’ve come down here to vacation and have friends down here and we see the type of hospitality that we had in Camden,” said John Helmers, owner of Bywater Bistro. Helmers turned to his friend, Ray Felts, who put him in touch with fellow New Orleans native, David Swiger, who gave him the pros and cons of operating a business on the island. The first place that was proposed as the restaurant’s location was the winner. Under the W.C. Holmes Bridge and in the Waterway Village district, the spot could be one of the most hidden gems in Gulf Shores. The bistro style restaurant began renovation on its current location in the Waterway Village district in Gulf Shores in May 2015. “What’s special is that this building has its own reputation,” Helmers said. “It’s original and it’s never been a restaurant. The reception we’re getting from the local folks is great. This is going to be more locally driven. I’m not in it for the tourist. I’m in it for a good income, good quality food and a place to hang out and have fun.” Helmers chose the name “Bywater” not only because it’s next to the canal, but as a reminder of his childhood in New Orleans. “Bywater is an old neighborhood I lived at in New Orleans and where most of my family grew up. It’s a mixed Italian neighborhood that sat right along the Mississippi River and the industrial canal,” Helmers said. The building that hosts Bywater looks like it belongs in the old New Orleans neighborhood. The inside of the restaurant is decorated to resemble the industrial area the Helmers remembers. “We went with the pallets and rustic look because most of the folks that lived in the Bywater worked on the docks down by the river,” Helmers said. “That was quite a norm in that area.” Having been in the restaurant business before, the Helmers understand the flow of things and want to make everything work hand in hand. Delmer’s doesn’t call his restaurant a New Orleans-based venue, but it does carry a New Orleans accent. “I’m going to have the best fried shrimp north of New Orleans,” Helmers said. The restaurant also plans on serving oysters, 16-ounce hand cut rib-eyes, fresh ground hamburgers, extra-large stuffed GulfVisitorGuide.com
baked potatoes and a variety of preparations for the fresh fish of the day. The restaurant will also have a ‘bring your own catch option,’ where the chef will prepare the fish that the customer has caught to bring in. “We want quality food,” Helmers said. “Our goal is for you to come in and say, ‘Man, that’s good food.’” Bywater plans on having live music, outdoor seating, a full bar and a laid back atmosphere. The restaurant and the Helmers are excited to be a part of the Gulf Shores community. Bywater Bistro is located at 103 W. Canal Drive in Gulf Shores and will open in early November.

CHEF JON GIBSON BILL’S BY THE BEACH By Destiny Brown

J
on Gibson is gaining national attention for his culinary excellence. The Chef of Bill’s by the Beach in Gulf Shores was recently featured on the Food Network and is becoming a well-known name around the Island. Gibson began cooking at a young age. He and his sister often made their own after-school snacks, and after awhile, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich only went so far. “The first thing I remember about cooking is my mom teaching me how to cook a grilled cheese sandwich,” Gibson said. That kicked off Gibson’s creative side and he began exercising his cooking abilities. Gibson got his culinary start flipping burgers at Hardees when he was 16. Since then, he has taken jobs as a dish washer, bartender, beverage director and currently, a chef at Bill’s by the Beach in Gulf Shores. While residing for a short time overseas in Sicily, Italy, Gibson discovered the simplicity of cooking from an inviting Italian woman who owned a Sicilian style Italian restaurant in the city. This Sicilian style of cooking became Gibson’s favorite. “I like Sicilian cuisine and Mediterranean cuisine so much
GulfVisitorGuide.com
because there isn’t a lot to it,” Gibson said. “Here in America, we have spaghetti with a lot of sauce. In Sicily, their pasta is not that. It’s a little olive oil, basil, fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes, Parmesan and that’s it.” Gibson tries to be simplify his cooking to savor the fresh tastes of his dishes, especially in his signature fish dishes. Bill Henry, owner of Bill’s by the Beach, heard of Gibson’s taste for Coastal cuisine and thought he was the perfect match for his restaurant. The two met and decided it was a fit. Gibson has been a resident of the Gulf Coast for a little over a year now and is gaining recognition for his delicious and uniquely assembled recipes. . “We’re a different restaurant than everyone else,” Gibson said. “We go a little left when everyone else goes right, and it’s worked for us. We’re gaining some popularity, especially with The Food Network.” Recently, Bill’s by the Beach and Chef Gibson were featured in Food Network’s Beach Eat’s USA. Bill’s by the Beach sells Chef Gibson’s products in store including his tomato vidalia jam and crab bacon cheesecake.

ovember around the Alabama Gulf Coast is prime time to fish for white trout and flounder in Mobile Bay. How do I know this? It’s not that I have such a good memory of everything I have caught over the past years, much less where they were caught and the conditions at that time. The secret is keeping good records of every time you are out on the water. Your records become more valuable with age. Fishing patterns generally stay the same year after year and without keeping some sort of record for future reference, there is no way I can keep up with what’s going on at any particular time of the year. White trout can be caught around many of the Mobile Bay gas rigs. Take time to visit The Marine Resources office to obtain a tide calendar and booklet showing GPS locations of fishing artificial reefs and rigs. Note, this is important information because many of the platforms in the bay have been removed so without previous GPS locations, you will never find them. As a matter of fact, there are only eight rigs or platforms left in the bay. White trout are schooling fish and can be caught on most any bait. I like to use Berkley Gulp Shrimp. Some of the other Gulp baits like the swimming mullet have thin curly tails which are easily bitten off by trash fish. Simply thread the bait on an appropriate jig head, the size and weight depending on current and water depth. Dead shrimp or even cut bait also work well. If you encounter getting hung on bottom structure or rocks, try using a slip cork that will position your bait slightly above the problem area. This also has a benefit if the tide is running in an odd direction. The cork allows you to use the tide to float your bait to the desired area. That being said, boat positioning often becomes the key to successful fishing. I’ll discuss that later. White trout are great to eat and easy to clean. I find it easier to fillet and remove the skin with an electric knife because the skin is so soft and thin. My favorite way to cook them is fried, but there are other options like, fish cakes or putting them in gumbo. I don’t think there is any size or bag limit on white trout, but exercise good judgment and don’t take more

than you need. I have frozen them in vac seal bags but they are best eaten fresh. Flounder may be the best eating fish coming out of the bay and November is a great time to catch them. Baits include Berkley Gulps, live shrimp, bull minnows or finger mullet. Fish for them around any structure, rocks, piers, rigs etc. Flounder fishing retrieve is usually painfully slow. They won’t usually chase a bait like trout because they are an ambush predator, lying flat on the bottom, camouflaged, waiting for an easy meal to swim close enough to grab. One method is to cast in a clock pattern covering a wide area over a period of time. If you are in deep water, this becomes a little more difficult so fishing straight down is an option. When a flounder is caught, use a net because they will easily come off the hook when lifted out of the water. Hate to lose a doormat size flatty. Cleaning can be a challenge if it’s your first time. There are different methods. Some fillet each side leaving it whole, some make a cut from head to tail then quarter Continued on page 42 GulfVisitorGuide.com

the fillet, some scale and gut the fish and cook it whole. For a real treat, look up “flounder fillet fastest” on Youtube. Amazing. Youtube is a great source to learn different methods for cleaning any type fish. Great learning tool. Boat positioning may be one of the most important skills to master for a successful day of fishing. After all, no matter how expensive your equipment is or how great you bait is, if it’s not where the fish are, no luck. How you position you boat for any particular time will probably be different everyday so you must be flexible and figure out the conditions at that given period of time, which will even likely change while you are fishing. You must be aware and adjust as required to be successful. Wind and current will be the main two factors you must contend with. Will you drift, anchor or tie up to a rig. All of these factors must be analyzed before you make your choice. If you’re going to anchor, you must first figure out your drift in order to land in your desired spot. If in open water, one way is to use your GPS tracking feature to know where to drop anchor. You may want to drop a buoy on your target for a reference point then get upwind wind or up current, clear all your tracking lines and start a new one. Drift back from that point and see how close you are to your buoy. If you miss it, you then know where you started and adjust accordingly. This may take a little time but it will put you where the fish are rather than a lot of guess work.
You also must take note of the water depth to know how far away from your target you must start in order to let out enough anchor rope to hold your position. One main factor for successful anchoring is length of rope and sufficient length of chain to allow your anchor to lie flat, especially if you’re using a Danforth type anchor. Knowing that your anchor will hold is critical especially if you’re up current from a rig. For additional safety, you can set your GPS to alarm if your boat moves from your current position. When tying to a rig, use a long rig hook with an inline rubber snubber shock absorber. If you don’t have a rig hook, throw a rope over a pipe or ladder. Secure one end of the rope to your boat cleat, go over the pipe and bring the other end back to the boat to tie off. Don’t tie your rope directly to the rig. It’s dangerous and is quite difficult to untie when ready to leave. With the way I have described, all you have to do is untie one end of the rope from your boat and pull away safely. It’s no fun to damage your boat or crush your fishing buddy while trying to untie from a rig in rough water. My motto is “If we go out, have fun, get home safe, then catching fish is always a bonus.” Good luck requires good planning.

Capt. Mark asks
‘Who’s on the Island?’
S
tephen E. Jones was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1956. He comes to the Island via Montgomery where he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1974. In high school, he excelled in his classes, and was involved in the Army JROTC for three years. After graduation, he attended Auburn University and in 1978 graduated with a BS in business administration. Through his college days, he worked for McDonald’s Corp. in Montgomery and Auburn. He was hired as a front person taking orders, ended up assisting store openings and was eventually promoted to assistant manager until he graduated college. As if that weren’t enough, he had a supplemental job of route salesman for Serv-A-Store, Inc. selling Health and Beauty Aids and another job of pump jockey/light mechanic at Winslett’s Exxon in Auburn. In 1978, he went to work as a bartender trainee, and was soon promoted to beverage manager at C. L. Torbett’s Restaurant. Steve has and had a super work ethic, and has always worked hard to advance and improve himself. He worked for the Flagship Corp. in Dallas for McCords, then was rehired as assistant manager of their Addison, Texas location until 1981. One day, he had a call from C. L. Torbett’s Restaurant management and they hired Steve as an opening Manager of the Warehouse, a new Auburn club. In 1982, Steve was hired by MHM Inc. which was a hotel management company with 100 contracts in 38 states. He worked as beverage manager at the Madison hotel in Montgomery then transferred to Heritage House Hotel in Albany, Ga., as food and beverage director. From there he was transferred to the Howard Johnson’s Hotel in Ft Lauderdale then to the Sheraton Hotel in Myrtle Beach, S. C. During that time, he trained Beverage and Food Managers on Jekyll Island, Ga., and in Scranton, Pa. Again he was transferred. Because of his knowledge of the trade, and his ability to train and get along with people, he was in demand. This time he was sent to the Radisson Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, S. C., as Takeover Food and Beverage director for Francis Marion and Quality Inn Historic District. From there he was transferred to The Holiday Inn Homewood in Birmingham. In 1990 he was in Albany, Georgia at the Heritage House Hotel. A year later He was hired as a General Manager of Quality Inn 44 Beachin • November 2015
Beachside Hotel in Gulf Shores. In 1996 Steve was promoted to Director of Operations of E&J Realty Company, Hotel Division and Director of Operations, Shoreline Corporation of Foley. By now, Steve knew that this was where he wanted to stay. He loved the area and wanted to become part of the community and for this to be his home. Until 2013, he was Director of Real Estate Sales, Kaiser Realty, Inc., in Gulf Shores at which time he became a Realtor for Kaiser. In May of 2013, he joined Realty Executives Gulf Coast where he works bringing buyers and sellers together. Steve did become a part of the community and in September 2000 he jumped in with both feet. He was elected to the Gulf Shores City Council Place five for a four-year term. In 2004, 2008, and 2012 he was reelected. They say, “if you want a job done, and done right, find a busy man to do it.” Steve is a busy man. He’s on the Library Advisory Board as Chairman, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee, the Medical Services Committee, and the Police, Fire, and EMS Advisory Committee. Steve has been a member of the Kiwanis of Gulf Shores since 1991 and served as Secretary, Treasurer, and Club President. In 1998 he was “Kiwanian of the Year”, then received the Distinguished Service Award in 2003. He was also Lt. Governor Division 13 Alabama District of Kiwanis International from 1999 to 2001. Steve was committee Chair for Radio Day for 7 years and Jean Dean “Reading is Fundamental” programs for 23 years. As a member of the Alabama Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, he has been titled with Vice Chairman, Membership and Finance, Chairman Elect, Chairman and a member of the Board of Directors. Steve was a Committee Member for the Annual National Shrimp Festival 2001 to 2010 and Shrimp Festival Concessions Chairman from 2004 to present. He received the “Distinguished Service Award in 2008. Steve was Vice Chairman, Conservation and Natural Resources and on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau. To keep busy, he was a Board Member on the first Alabama Gulf Coast Sports Commission in 2006. He has also been on involved in the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. Last but not least, he is on the Board of Directors of the Alabama Gulf Coast Area Educational Foundation. In Steve’s spare time, he’s an accomplished photographer, plays the harmonica, enjoys golf and bicycling. Steve’s personal message to the readers is this: “The voters of Gulf Shores allowed me to serve a fourth term as one of their At Large representatives. I am grateful for the opportunity and humbled by the display of support. Tremendous challenges lie ahead, but rest assured that a good team has been elected to serve you and carry Gulf Shores to the next level. We need your participation and input, and encourage you to attend meetings and contact us with your ideas and concerns. The “next level” is a place that I intend to be more accessible, efficient, and customer friendly. You will find all of us to be available and responsive. “We must work together as a community to keep the quality of our life and our services at a level we have come to expect. I am proud of our Law Enforcement, Fire Fighting personnel, and utility workers. I believe we have the best of the best. Whenever you have an opportunity, please speak with them and thank them for their service. Likewise for our veterans, active and retired. They need our recognition, appreciation, and support.” We on the Island are fortunate to have him here, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to call him a friend. He’s a remarkable individual who is first to answer the call, and will always be there when needed. Thank you, Steve, for all you do. GulfVisitorGuide.com
