We all dream of that waterfront retreat on the beach. Salt air, sand between our toes, and a little piece of heaven that is all ours. Whether it’s for the weekend or for the summer, one of the most important things to do before your vacation begins, is it know what you’re looking for. When looking for places to spend your beach adventures, there are many options the Gulf Coast has to offer. From renters, to buyers, to those simply looking for a weekend hotel, the beach has many choices of places for the perfect beach getaway you have in mind.

Before Booking Your Beach Destination

When searching for your beach destination, there are many things to remember during the process. “First, you want to decide how important it is for you to be directly on the Gulf,” said Peyton Yarborough, realtor at Remax Paradise in Orange Beach. “Location is probably the single most important factor. That will help determine your price. Obviously, the price jumps a lot from when you’re on the sand to when you’re across the street.” The area around Baldwin County beaches has plenty of bodies of water to choose from other than the Gulf. The bays and the rivers also contribute to make the area on and around the Island perfect for those looking for a view of the water. “Figure out what water you want to be on,” Yarborough said. “Do you want to be on brown water or blue water? Do you want to be on the river or the bay or the Gulf ?” With so many options, most vacationers still tend to book their stays with a Gulf front view. “People come here for the beach, so the most popular option by far, no matter the season, is being directly on the beach with a Gulf view,” said Taylor Means, broker/ owner of Bella Beach Properties. View is another important thing to consider when looking for a place at the beach. Besides the idea of waterfront views, take into consideration what time of day you’ll enjoy your condo the most. “For example, if you’re in the west side of the Island, then you’ll get the sunsets and the east side of the Island will get the sunrises,” Yarborough said. GulfVisitorGuide.com

A few other things to think about before booking your beach destination is the cancellation policy, if there is any maintenance scheduled during your stay, the exact location of the property and if you’re a pet owner, be sure to ask if the venue is pet friendly. “You don’t want to be that guy who takes his family on vacation to a ‘great deal’ he found on Craigslist only to discover it’s nasty, nothing works, it’s not like the pictures, and the owner lives in Michigan so there is nothing he can do,” Means said. When booking your condo, also take into consideration the amenities it has to offer. Pools, gyms, hot tubs, lazy rivers and laundry service are all a few things to check on before booking your place. There are places on the Island that are better known for these certain amenities. “If having a full gym is important to you, there are some options,” Yarborough said. “Turquoise Place in Orange Beach has an amazing gym. You wouldn’t need a gym membership. Also, places like Opal and Istabella have a nice weight room.” Indoor heated pools and hot tubs are something to look for while booking condos in the winter months. Steam rooms and saunas are other popular options at many locations. Vacationers should book their condo as soon as possible. The busiest time at the beach falls on the Fourth of July, the Hangout Fest and the summertime. Condos tend to rent out quick, so don’t slack in booking yours in advance. It seems new every year becomes a record breaking year for tourism. “Tripadvisor just named Orange Beach the second best ‘travel destination on the rise’ for 2016 and it’s no mystery why the Alabama Gulf Coast is consistently named by national publications as a top destination. We can offer an affordable vacation on the best beaches in the country. Usually the only feedback I get is, ‘We’ll see you next year,’” Means said. Some choose to stay at a hotel or a resort instead of a more extended beach stay. Resorts like Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach even have a restaurant onsite. “With the aspect of having full service, you don’t even have to leave there if you don’t want to,” Yarborough said. January 2016 • Beachin’ 7

Purchasing Your Beach Haven

When purchasing a property at the beach, there are many factors to take into account before you commit to anything. Flood zone areas and insurance policies are a few things to make sure not to overlook. “You need to figure out whether or not it’s a flood zone, because sometimes just because things are by the water, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re in a flood zone,” Yarborough said. “Insurance is also an important thing. Be sure there is a sufficient insurance policy on the property. I would like to find out the history of the house on any past storm or flood damage.” “Items to consider vary in importance depending on the property type, which a solid agent can discuss in detail,” Means said, “ In general, you would need to consider association dues, assessments, restrictions, elevation, and wind and flood damage history, and understand that waterfront homes will require more maintenance and will have higher insurance rates.” Another first step is to find a realtor that will be dedicated to your property search. “When it comes to purchasing, you want a local agent working on your behalf,” Means said. “As a buyer, it doesn’t cost you a penny and it could save you thousands. In Alabama, the burden is on the buyer to know about the property and not necessarily on the seller to inform the buyer, so it is important to have a great agent. Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are loaded with great real estate professionals. Interview a few and go with your gut.” Prices vary on properties because you have to take many things into consideration. The age of the building, 8 Beachin • January 2016

the amenities offered, the size, the quality of construction and the location are all major things to consider. “Condos are ideal for the person who either is going to vacation here or just don’t want the upkeep of a house,” Yarborough said. “If you buy a house on the water, it could be $20,000 a year just to keep it up. With maintenance, insurance and upkeep. People take that for granted that salt water in the air really does a number on houses. In a condo, you’re only responsible for paying for your lights. If this is a second home or vacation spot for you, then no worries. Leave, lock the door and you know it’ll be the same shape when you get back.” Most condo owners at the beach rent out their properties throughout the year to vacationers. Most owners list their properties on VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) and get plenty of repeat business. The beaches tourism numbers have been through the roof and have steadily gone up in the past three years, which also causes rents to rise every year. “One of the first questions I ask people when they start looking is, ‘What are you going to do with it? Are you going to rent it out, are you going to live there full time, are your grand kids coming in?’ “Depending on the answer, I know what to look for,” Yarborough said. With so many options, it’s easy to find your happy place on the shores of the Gulf. “I would encourage people to mix it up,” Yarborough said. “Don’t stay in the same place. We have a lot of unique properties that people haven’t seen or even heard of. I encourage people not to just come to the beach, but to explore everything we have to offer.” GulfVisitorGuide.com

Anthony Jones ... Well Worth A Visit! Voted The Best Salon in Baldwin County in 2014 It was a beau ful summer morning when we le Fairhope, low humidity and not a cloud in the sky. We were on our way down to Orange Beach to check out a business that many of our friends have told us about, this Englishman who had opened a Hair Salon on the beach with his daughter Emma. My hair is very important to me and ge ng a good haircut is a must, and that is what Anthony Jones is known for and excellent hair color to boot. We have both been very dissa sfied with the last few a empts on designing our hair to suit our lifestyles; most of the so called stylists did not take into considera on our age or understand that we both want to look great without a lot of fuss and bother. The traffic was a bit heavy due to the summer visitors, but we arrived on me to this charming yellow and white beach house on the beach road with a fabulous view of the Gulf of Mexico. We were greeted warmly by Anthony and Emma and they ask us if we would like a cold drink or a glass of wine before he started making us beau ful. Pam, my friend, went first since I was a li le chicken a er the last experiences. Anthony directed her to a styling chair and went on to explain the ten most important rules in designing a custom hairstyle to suit her. He first looked at her face shape and explained that there are five face shapes out there and told her her face shape was oval. The next was bone structure and head shape, a er that was the type of her hair, the texture of her hair, then what sort of condi on her hair was in, followed by the way the hair grows out of the head, plus cow licks, then her likes and dislikes and fashion. Wow! What a lot of things to get right. So then Emma started with a relaxing shampoo and deep condi oning, then for the next 30 minutes Anthony’s hands were a sea of mo on, lastly a quick blow dry with hardly any fuss and presto she was finished! She was so happy and she could not believe the difference in her hair. GulfVisitorGuide.com

Now it was my turn, my hair especially in the summer gets very frizzy and dry; I have tried everything out there for my hair with no success! Anthony explained that commercial hair products are made different to professional hair products. Commercial shampoos are made of mild detergent and the condi oners are based on petroleum oil. Where professional hair products are pure and natural and give back to the hair, he also went on to say that we should all wash our hair every day and condi on our hair the same. Anthony explained that at all mes our hair has to have at least 8% moisture in it the same as our skin, we should treat our hair the same way as we treat our skin, by moisturizing it every day which made a lot of sense to me, since the last stylist told me not to wash my hair every day because in her mind it would dry it out. Anthony explained to me that yes using some drug store products would dry your hair out if washed daily. A er we went through the ten rules, he took me to the shampoo area and treated me to the best shampoo and condi oning my hair had ever had. While shampooing, Emma explained to me what I should do in the morning in the shower, again stressing no over-thecounter hair products, that’s why my hair is dry and frizzy. A er shampooing and before condi oning, towel blot the hair because the hair is porous like a sponge, pu ng any condi oner on one’s hair when it is full of water will not go into the hair itself, so blot it first then apply the product and leave it in while you are washing yourself. Then before you leave the shower, rinse and count up to 10 slowly and stop, just rinse the excess and no more. A er she explained to me the hows & whys, I understood. They are like hair doctors, if we listen and do what they says it works! Anthony has his own line of products and everything he used on me was his and believe me the stuff works. The cut he gave me was wonderful; I walked out a new woman and so did Pam, no more frizzes! Oh, by the way he used a great product before he dried my hair called “POTION.” It is a gel with a lot of healing features with body, fabulous! I bought a bo le. Best money we ever spent and yes, we are definitely going back. He is a true professional.

Well worth a visit!

Anthony’s salon is at 23175 Perdido Beach Boulevard in Orange Beach & their phone number is 251.974.1514. Please say we sent you! www.anthonyjonesinc.net January 2016 • Beachin’ 15

CARRIBEAN CAFE TO OPEN AT THE WHARF

The Wharf is announcing its new partnership with Montego’s Caribbean Café and Bar as it wraps up a record-breaking season in all sectors – including visitor numbers and amphitheater attendance. Montego’s has joined The Wharf lineup with an anticipated February 2016 opening. The restaurant will occupy the 9,301 square feet space on the east side of Wharf Parkway with a waterfront view. The new location marks Montego’s third establishment with others located in downtown and west Mobile. “We are very excited to become a part of The Wharf family, and are thankful to be given the opportunity to be involved with such a wonderful team,” said Montego’s owner, Brandon George. “We know our restaurant will be a great addition to what is already a great establishment.” The family-friendly restaurant has an island atmosphere with American fare. It’s known for fresh fish tacos, certified Angus beef burgers and seafood that comes straight from the Gulf. There’s something for everyone at Montego’s, and planning is already underway for a one-of-a-kind pirate ship playhouse for the kids to enjoy. “Montego’s brings something new and unique to The Wharf,” said Kristen Guenther, management team leader at The Wharf. “We had a great season and

Event attendance across the board has grown, and The Blue Marlin Grand Championship surpassed records with a crowd of 24,492. In its 10th season of concerts, The Wharf Amphitheater celebrated successfully with sold out shows for Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church and Jimmy Buffet. A GULF COAST

CELEBRATES 32 YEARS

GulfVisitorGuide.com

January 2016 • Beachin’ 34

Photo Gulf Coast Favorite: Celebrating its 30th year as the oldest, same-owned restaurant on the Mobile Causeway, the Original Oyster House has employed excellent and long-term staff members who share the company’s core values and exemplify Southern hospitality. Pictured from left standing are: Rufus Young, Bridgette Knaebel, Tracy Tureau, John Braswell, Karen Taubel and David Dekle, co-owner of the Original Oyster House; from left sitting are Melody Tart and Kay Naylor.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the Mobile Causeway’s Original Oyster House. Opening its first location in Gulf Shores in 1983, the restaurant quickly expanded and opened its second restaurant two years later on the Causeway. The restaurants soon became known as a Gulf Coast favorite for a variety of reasons such as its world famous fried cheese, fried shrimp and award-winning gumbo. Classics such as hand-battered fried crab claws, blackened Mahi and fresh Gulf oysters kept locals and visitors coming back for more. A visit to the Original Oyster House usually included kids playing on the playground, make-it-yourself cocktail sauce, a breath-taking, panoramic sunset and Southern hospitality. As the oldest, same-owned restaurant on the Mobile Causeway, the Original Oyster House has weathered some catastrophic storms. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina gutted its original location, where Tacky Jacks once resided and was relocated several miles east where the Cock of the Walk once operated. “What could have torn us apart really became the cement that held our place together. After each devastating blow from a hurricane or storm, all of our employees came out in droves to put the place back together and back to work. Matter of fact, we were up and running only 15 days after Hurricane George in 1998, which I think could be a world record for recovery on the Causeway. It’s our family values that make the difference,” recounted Joe Roszkowski, president and CEO of the Original Oyster House. Although the past 30 years for Original Oyster House on the Causeway brought some challenges, it also inspired continual growth and secured its place as a well-loved and highly recommended place for seafood. The addition of the Banquet Room in 2009 offered families and corporations a venue surrounded by the Mobile Delta with a GulfVisitorGuide.com

perfect view of the Mobile skyline. Booking for all occasions, the Banquet Room has become a popular choice for group events, wedding rehearsal dinners, corporate seminars, receptions, office luncheons, retirement, birthday parties, presentations and holiday celebrations. Last year, the installation of a seven-foot fire grill and several oyster cameras paid off when Fire-Grilled Oysters, only nine months after its introduction, won Mobile Bay Magazine’s Best Bites Challenge against 31 other local restaurant’s best bites. Along with its take-out, homemade desserts and seafood gumbo, the Original Oyster House has been sending alligators home in kid’s meals, giving back to our community through sponsorships and donations and being recognized for its environmental practices including converting its fry oil into biofuel to transport its fleet. You may also have noticed its solar water heaters on the roof and its wind turbine, the only one on the Causeway, which will produce electricity once winds reach 8 miles an hour or more. But maybe the best way to capture why the Causeway Original Oyster House is worth celebrating after 30 years is through the people who made it what it is today. Here are highlights of their favorites: The Original Oyster House has two locations, Mobile: 3733 Battleship Parkway, on the Causeway and Gulf Shores: 701 Hwy 59 on the Original Oyster House Boardwalk. Both locations offer spectacular waterfront views, private party rooms and have been celebrated as the area’s finest family restaurants for the past 32 years. The Original Oyster House is managed by Superb Foods, a management company of Geez Louise Boutique, OOH Trading Company and Joe & Dave’s Sauces and Seasonings. hooked on fishin’ with Phil Dortch

In order to be successful in any of life’s endeavors, there must be a plan, a process and a method. This is especially true when it comes to fishing. With so many variables, it takes a plan to produce the results for which we strive. Catching fish is rarely heading out to sea with a Willy-Nilly attitude, tossing a hook in the water and coming home with supper. Notice I did say rarely. Several years ago, there was a really hot spot near Katrina Cut, which is at the westward end of Dauphin Island, that held so many white trout we could catch them on a bare jig hook. However on most days we must have a plan and with that plan be flexible. Weather and tides are the most common variables but let’s look much deeper as to “”Why” we do what we do. How many times have you heard kids respond to their parents with “Why?”, and the resounding answer was usually, “Because I said so.”? The better answer of course would be to explain the reason why in order for us to learn. Don Holloway, my fishing mentor and long time writer of this article, taught me far more about salt water fishing than I would have ever learned on my own. When I moved back to this area about 10 years ago, I would hang out around marinas and boat ramps to talk to the old timers. It seemed that I would learn some new little tidbit everyday. After a while, all of these little bits of information became natural as I became a better fisherman. Isaac Newton’s third law is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. With this in mind, every little method we use in fishing can produce a poor, better or best results. Many things are just common sense, but not all. Would you use a bream hook to tarpon fish? Of course not. How about a cane pole to snapper fish? This brings us down to the little detail things that help make us better fisherman. From here on in this article of “Why,” the points will probably be quite random, but hopefully they will get you thinking of why you do what you do. Throughout your day of fishing, you are constantly making decisions. 36 Beachin • January 2016

• Let’s assume you are fishing out of a boat today. Once you launch, you must decide where you intend to fish. This could suddenly change depending on changing weather reports, rough water, a hot spot you hear on the vhf radio or a host of other reasons. Those and many others are the reasons why you changed your mind. • Why do you choose a certain type or size hook? Circle hooks are required by law for certain types of fishing, but in most cases we can choose different size and types depending on changing conditions. • Sinker size is important. If you use a split shot to sink your bait 20-foot deep, it will never reach the bottom. Your choice of weight depends on current and the depth the fish are at that time. When drifting for King mackerel I often freeline, using no weight at all. Why? Because that’s what works at that given time. GulfVisitorGuide.com

• Choosing the correct bait is likely the most important decision. Whether you choose live bait or artificial, you may need to “match the hatch.” If the fish are feeding on glass minnows, don’t throw them a 5-inch pogey and wonder why you don’t get a bite. If your buddy is catching all the fish and you are using some crazy bait that looks good, duh. Don’t try catching Sheepshead on artificial bait. Why? They only want fiddler crabs, fresh shrimp, oysters or ghost shrimp. We must always ask ourselves the age old questions when we are not catching fish; Are the fish not there? Are they not hungry? Maybe they just don’t like the bait we are using. Little things often make the difference. How fast or slow do you retrieve your bait? How deep are you fishing? Should I drift or anchor? It all depends. • If you are offshore fishing for Beeliners over a small structure and the current is ripping, you may need to anchor. • If fishing a large structure area, throw out a marker buoy to mark your general location and drift, thus covering more area. • Why do you use a certain type line? If you use braid, that increases your line capacity and may be less likely to fray on rocks. Mono gives more stretch. Fluorocarbon is more invisible.

• When catching bait, why do I use a certain type cast net? I use one that has a specific mesh size and weight size to produce the results I want. Larger mesh and heaver weight will sink faster in deeper water. Every little thing we do, every decision we make gives us a specific results, some good, some not so good. Adapt to the ever changing conditions. As kids we learned to stop, look and listen before crossing the street, the same thing applies to fishing. Stop and make a logical plan based on the conditions that, Look around to see what other people are doing and listen to people that have been successful for years at doing what you are attempting to do. We can all learn from each other. Plan your work and work your plan is a good motto except when it comes to fishing. Why? Because of all the variables. January until May is the best time to catch Sheepshead around piers, rocks or rigs. Remember to obey the rules and get home safe. Teach a kid to fish take time to explain why you do what you do. Create memories that will last long after you are gone. For any additional discussion please call Capt. Phil @ 251-223-3682 or Email ISLANDWESTCHARTERS@ YAHOO.COM or WWW.ISLANDWESTCHARTERS.COM. Capt. Mark asks

‘Who’s on the Island?’

There used to be a sign on Highway 59 in Summerdale that said “The guns of the Battleship Alabama can reach this sign. You are in range.” The Battleship could fire a 2700-pound projectile 20.9 miles. Very impressive! It’s difficult to talk to BILL TUNNELL and not want to talk about THE Battleship. Bill’s position is Executive Director of Battleship Memorial Park. It’s obvious that he loves what he does. Interestingly, his background isn’t military due to a medical issue he had when men were being drafted. He tried to sign up, but was turned down and given a 1Y status. He regrets not having served on active duty. At the park and on the ship, he often comes in contact with so many incredible people who have made tremendous sacrifices for their country. He’s also met many of the widows and children who were left behind. He loves that we have an all-volunteer service. He feels that the men and women have joined because they want to be there, not because their number was picked. The Park is run by an independent state agency that is not funded by the State General Fund Budget. In the 51 years of operation, they have never received any money for daily operations. Their economic impact just from admission charges over that past 51 years is close to one billion dollars, all because some Alabama citizens got together in 1964 and raised a million dollars to bring the ship here. The Navy agreed to transfer the ship to the State of Alabama as long as there was no further expense to the federal government. At the time, the ship was “in mothballs” in Bremerton, Washington in 40 Beachin • January 2016

Puget Sound across from Seattle where it had been laid up since 1947. In May of 1962, there was a small article in the Mobile Press that stated that the “South Dakota class” battleships (Alabama, South Dakota, Massachusetts, and Indiana) were going to be scrapped. Before the day was over, a statewide committee was formed to bring the Alabama to Mobile. On July 21, 1964, two ocean going-tugs hooked up to the ship and it was towed to and through the Panama Canal. There was a two-week delay in the Canal due to storms in the Gulf of Mexico. In route, one tug sank killing two crew members. The next morning, another tug was dispatched and the ship continued on its way. On September 14, 1964, the ship arrived in Mobile to its final resting place. On January 9, 1965, the park opened and the ship was ready to be seen. About 4 years ago, a new curator was hired, leading to a compartment by compartment renovation of the ship to make it look like it did in 1944. The submarine in the park, the USS Drum, is the oldest existing World War II sub. Its interior is in perfect shape. While there were 6322 men that had served on the Battleship while commissioned, only 253 people served on the Drum. Bill says it’s a real honor when one of the vets returns to see “his” ship. What journey brought Bill to this position? In the ‘40s, his dad was stationed in Cape May, New Jersey. His job was flying the coast, patrolling for enemy submarines. When Bill was 6, his parents moved to Andalusia, Alabama where Bill grew up. He told me that he loved the town and treasures his memories from there. While in high school, he played football, ran track, and played golf. After high school, Bill earned a BA degree in history from The University of the South in Sewanee, TN. He attended the University of South Carolina School of Law, but had to drop out due to medical issues at home. Returning to Andalusia, he worked at two banks over the next 7 years and was President of the Andalusia Lion’s Club. Leaving there, he went to Dothan and worked in another bank. An opportunity came up for him to manage a Holiday Inn in Ozark, Alabama which was quite a challenge, especially at his young age. It turned out to be successful. Recognizing his ability to lead in management, he jumped on an opening with the Holiday Inn in Mobile, a city where his parents had been, and it just seemed natural for him to come back. He loved it, but it was very labor intensive and he was always on call. He served as chairman of Alabama Hospitality and Alabama Hotel and Motel Association. In 1989, he was chairman and coordinator for the Miss USA Pageant. Always active with community service, he was president of the Mobile Lions Club as well as on the Board of Directors for the Gulf Coast Athletic Club. After leaving the hotel management business, he spent the next 4 years as Director of Tourism and Special events with the Mobile Convention and Visitors Corporation. He received the first ever induction into the Alabama Hall of Fame, and also received the Alabama Travel Council’s Award of Excellence. In 2002, he was selected by the Alabama Restaurant Association and Alabama Hospitality Assn. as the Alabama tourism Promoter of the Year. He loved being able to sell his city and his state to others. He enjoyed the travel and considered it an easy challenge. As Bill said, he never shied away from a new challenge and never failed to jump in head first. He became the Vice Chairman of the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce and Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. When he heard that the Executive Director of the Memorial GulfVisitorGuide.com

Park was retiring, Bill became one of 950 who applied for the job and the first non military in the final five to be interviewed. He wasn’t chosen, but two years later, when there was an opening for a Director of Marketing and Public Relations, he was called and offered the job. Bill was beside himself with excitement. To be able to work around a national landmark of this magnitude and stature was humbling and he did not hesitate to accept. Four years later, the position of Executive Director opened up again and in May of 1997, Bill was named to that position and has proudly served for almost 19 years. In 1999, Bill was named Citizen of the Year, Chapter 701 of Vietnam Veterans of America, in 2009 he was recognized as the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce Community Leader of the Year, and in 2011 he was named as an “Honorary Veteran” by the South Alabama Veterans Council. Shortly after Bill took over as Director of the Park, Steven Segal did filming at the Battleship for the movie “Under Siege,” and most recently there was the filming of the “Indianapolis.” Nicholas Cage filmed at the ship. The plane that was used in the movie and run up on the beach at the Flora Bama, is now at Battleship Park. At the park, they have youth programs on The Alabama with “youth overnights.” They can sleep about 275 at a time. Since 1985, they have had over a quarter of a million young adults and chaperones spend a night on the Battleship. Now, Bill says with excitement in his voice, they’ve had sons and daughters of past visitors, past veterans, who are returning to the Park to be close to the history of their parents and to align themselves with something very real from the past. Originally, the park was developed to honor those who served and to remember those

who didn’t make it home. Bill says that one thing he loves about his job is that he can walk out of his office anytime and talk to someone from just about anywhere in the world. Many have military experience, but most don’t. They just have a fascination for history and for this beautiful huge ship that helped our country achieve naval superiority on the world’s oceans. As past president of the National Historical Ships Association International, he often gets calls from all over the world asking for advice as to their ship problems. Bill’s parting words of wisdom were, “challenges can be either challenges or opportunities. The first 50 years of the Park were wonderful, and I can hardly wait to experience the next 50.” Bill and his wife, Cynthia, moved to Gulf Shores and love it here. He joined the Chamber and is now on the Board of Directors for Coastal Alabama Business Chamber with hopes that his experience will be an asset both to the Chamber and the community. He is proud of the Coastal Business Chamber and couldn’t say enough nice things about the Chamber and about Ed Rodriguez and Vince Lucido, as well as everyone involved with the Chamber. “People make a conscious effort to come to our area and make a memory,” says Bill, “and it’s our job to help them realize this dream. We want them to come back. We want them to tell their friends about their experiences and have their friends want to come make memories.” Bill thrives on civic and church activities and is usually helping whomever and whenever he can. He wants to see the community continue to improve, and he’ll always be there to help. How very fortunate we are to have a family like the Tunnells on the Island, and how fortunate I am to be able to call Bill my friend.
