COME
COME ALL
To say we’re excited about this year’s arts season might be an understatement. As we combed through hundreds of email submissions, checked online listings and chatted with our closest sources to put this book together, we couldn’t help but squeal at some of the acts, exhibitions and festivals coming through the region. There truly is something for everyone.
We are seeing a rise in comedy with big-name acts, like Kevin Hart at Hertz Arena on Nov. 12, and musicians, such as Hamilton’s Renée Elise Goldsberry at Artis—Naples on Mar. 6. There’s much to see in local theater, too. Florida Repertory Theatre is celebrating 25 years in 2023, and a slate of Broadway touring shows stop by Artis—Naples and Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, ranging from Tina Fey’s Mean Girls to Disney’s Aladdin to the Latin-infused On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan
But the shining star to me is Collier County’s year-long ¡ARTE VIVA! A Celebration of Hispanic Arts & Culture, with about a dozen arts organizations participating. We can’t wait for Naples Botanical Garden’s Frida in the Garden, which fills the verdant landscapes with recreations of the Mexican artist’s La Casa Azul, to open in January, and Opera Naples’ Fri da, the opera, at III Festival Under the Stars in April.
This all comes on the coattails of new creative spaces that popped up over the sum mer. Marco Island Center for the Arts launched the Arts Center Theatre with staged read ings, kids’ plays and twists on classics; METHOD & CONCEPT unveiled its new ACL|ROW Sculpture Park in collaboration with Naples Botanical Garden; prolific local painters Mal ly Khorasantchi and Marcus Jansen are building new private studios in Bonita Springs and Fort Myers, respectively; and street artist Marvin Rouse moved into his first solo space, becom ing one of the first Black artists to own a gallery in Naples. Need we say more?

Ran Adler has made a name for himself in the region for his assemblage works that reflect on environmentalism and mindfulness. While Ran’s known for using foraged materials, like mahogany pods and seagrapes for his creative expression, he takes a different approach for his next local solo show, his first in about three years, at Sidney & Berne Davis Art Cen ter in Fort Myers. Entitled “Shhh... Quiet,” it is inspired by prayer: the centerpiece is 108 words stitched on thin, white linen—an inspiration for meditation and a nod to the Bud dhist rosary’s bead count. The show signals a continued push for SBDAC to elevate its pro gramming with established, thought-provoking talent and an opportunity for fans to see new works by the Naples artist.
