Overview

We share Unilever’s identity and story with the world using our corporate stationery. In many cases, the first contact with our company is via a letter, a compliment slip or business card. It is essential that our stationery is always consistent, of a high quality and accurately represents our company and it’s purpose. Grids and formats These guidelines show standard grids for both A-format applications and US Quarto applications. US Quarto applications are based on the A-format grids. They have been adapted to fit the proportions with measurements given in decimal inches. Users of US formats should also look at the sections for A-format applications which detail exceptions and alternatives such as positioning industry standards marks or typesetting dual language applications. The visual identity These guidelines should be read in conjunction with Unilever Visual Identity Standards Guide and the Unilever Logo Use Guidelines, both of which can be found on the Unilever Brand Centre website (thebrandcentre.unilever.com). Many stationery assets require the Unilever logo to be pre-printed in its signature blue colour, Unilever Blue Pantone *293. The corresponding Master Logo artwork files(UNI_ ML_SS_P_1CS.eps) can be found on the Unilever Brand Centre in the Asset Finder section. Alternative logo artwork can also be found here, including a black and white logo version for special circumstances, reduced file sizes and logos adjusted for specific printing methods, etc. The primary typeface of the Unilever Brand is DIN Pro (regular weight) which is used on all stationery assets.

Legal requirements Businesses often require basic legal information be included on stationery assets. This information usually include a company’s legal registration details (registered address and registration number) and any other details necessary to comply with legal requirements of your country. Timeline for changeover For sustainable reasons please run down existing stationery supplies before ordering any in the new look and feel. Using the templates These guidelines will assist you in using the updated stationery templates (letterhead, report document, address labels, etc). Specific details such as margin and font sizes are outlined to ensure usage is consistent. In addition basic Word templates for letters and memo for both A4 and US Quarto formats, will be made available to download from the Unilever Brand Centre website.


Print stock recommendations

It’s important that our stationery makes the right, first impression. The paper stock should be of good quality and decent weight, whilst respecting environmental concerns. For consistency across our corporate communications and to ensure quality reproduction of our logo, we recommend that the following is considered when choosing print stock: • white (not cream) • laid, linen feel • uncoated • of reasonable thickness/weight • FSC approved:

FSC 100% – All the timber or fibre in the product comes from an FSC-certified forest.

FSC Recycled – All the timber or fibre in the product is postconsumer reclaimed material.

FSC Mixed Sources – The timber or fibre in the product is a mixture of some/all of the following:

– Timber from a FSC-certified forest

– Post-consumer reclaimed material

– Controlled Sources, which exclude unacceptable forestry

1. Lengthy legal information The legal requirements of different countries may require space for more information than shown in the standard letterhead. In this case information may be typeset in more than one column, aligning with the baseline as shown.

2. Industry standard marks Where industry standard marks or quality awards are desired, these may be displayed horizontally across the page, aligning with the baseline of the legal information. Leave an equal gap (determined visually if necessary) between the icons.

The compliment slip should be kept as clean and simple as possible using the standard format wherever possible. Where language considerations or specific usage require additional information, please follow the rules below. Paper size: 1/3 A4 (99mm x 210mm)

1. Dual language format For languages with a non-roman typeface (for example Greek, Hindi or Mandarin), you may wish to print a dual language version of the compliment slip. In this case, follow the standard format but print one language on one side and the second language on the reverse.

2. Customised message 8pt/10pt DIN Pro Bold, upper and lower case, left aligned. Where a customised message is required, the additional information may be added above the greeting ‘With compliments’. Leave a clear space of 4mm between the greeting and the additional message/ translations.

Business cards order of information

For clarity and consistency, information on our business cards is always laid out in the order shown. The principles of one Unilever Division, business group and business unit names are used to denote our internal organisational structure. They complicate Unilever in the eyes of our external stakeholders and should only be used on business cards when absolutely necessary to clarify the position of the individual. There are two options for divisional, business group and business unit names on our business cards as shown here, with the preferred version adding the information below the Legal Company Name. Adding divisional, business group or business unit names may require the layout of other information to be adjusted in order to maintain the minimum clear space detailed on page 9. For example, one can group address details so they take up three lines rather than four, or perhaps by omitting contact details such as telex information. Address details Address details should be set on separate lines if there is enough space. Otherwise, details may be grouped on one line. Punctuation Minimum punctuation should always be used. Abbreviations should be avoided where possible. Where an abbreviation is needed, a full point should be used. Where two address details are grouped on a single line, a comma should be used to separate them.
