A MESSAGE FROM THE Welcome to Georgetown! The Office of Residential Living thinks of the Hilltop as a home. I am often asked, “Which building is the best?” While your own home may have great memories, I would surmise the memories have more to do with the people—family gatherings, late night movie watching, BBQ in the backyard than the actual building itself. Our home bustles with activities, meetings, dinners, study groups, and late-night talks regardless of which building you live in. Georgetown’s rich tradition of student ownership and leadership is present within the residential communities. Over 200 students serve as Residence Hall Office Managers, Resident Assistants,Operations Crew, and Residence Hall Office staff and they are critical leaders in the creation of strong residential communities. The Office of Residential Living student and professional staff are available to assist you. Our 200 student employees are supported and supervised by Community Directors and other professional staff. We encourage you to seek out your Community Director and Resident Assistants because even if they can’t solve a particular concern, they have a wealth of knowledge regarding Georgetown and can generally connect you to the right office. The Office of Residential Living also works closely with our live in colleagues-- Georgetown’s Chaplains-in- Residence (CIR), Jesuits-in- Residence (JIR), and Faculty-in-Residence (FIR). The CIRs, JIRs, and FIRs represent a variety of faith traditions and academic disciplines. Whether attending a dinner in their apartment or interacting with them at a campus event, you will find the embodiment of the Jesuit ideal of cura personalis. While all of us will be there to support, help, and offer opportunities, living in a successful community involves collaborating and communicating, taking personal responsibility, valuing the diversity present in the community, treating all with dignity, and empowering initiative amongst all Hoyas. We rely on all of you along with our staff and campus partners to create comfortable, inclusive communities that foster formation and engagement. Be on the lookout for additional information regarding roommate selection, room assignments, and move-in throughout the summer. I hope by the end of your first year you will say how much you enjoyed living on campus, meeting new friends, and making great memories. By your senior year, I hope you have the experience many Hoyas encounter by returning to your first-year building with friends to reminisce about the days of living together that very first year. Residential Living Requirement
Drawing upon our longstanding commitment to the education of the whole person, Georgetown is dedicated to the development of a vibrant living-learning community. All undergraduate students are required to live on campus freshman through junior year.
Residential Living Exemption
Transfer students may be exempt from our residency requirement if they meet one of the following criteria: •Live at home with a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member •Age 22 by the first day of Fall semester classes •Married and/or resides with a dependent(s) You may apply for a Residency Exemption online through Hoya Housing. Required documents must be uploaded before 5pm on July 6, 2018. Requests received after this deadline may not be considered.
Medical Accommodations
Students who require a particular housing accommodation to meet a medical need, must submit documentation through the Academic Resource Center. First consideration will be made for requests received by 5pm on July 9, 2018.
The Assignment Process
Housing assignments are assigned randomly by computer. Residential Living staff will use the Living Preference Questionnaire (LPQ) to match and assign students to an upperclass residence, based on compatibly, age and class year. Junior transfers will be prioritized for apartments. Room assignments will be sent to student’s GU email accounts in early August. Room, roommate, and Move-In information will also be available for viewing on the student’s Hoya Housing page at that time.
WHERE TO
Transfer students will apply for housing online through Hoya Housing. Using your Georgetown netID and password to log in, click on the Applications tab and open Housing Application 18-19. Students experiencing trouble logging into Hoya Housing should contact University Information Services at 202-687-4949.
IN THE Students will complete 3 required pages: 1. Emergency Contacts: requires parent or guardian phone and email information 2. Living Preference Questionnaire (LPQ): a 20 question survey to help students outline their living styles and habits 3. Sign Housing Occupancy Agreement (HOA): outlines the dates and policies related to living in on-campus housing
TWO HOUSING 1. Students may apply to a Living Learning Community (LLC), by continuing the housing application and completing the LLC application pages. 2. Students who do not wish to live in an LLC will complete the LPQ and be randomly assigned to an available bedspace by the Office of Residential Living

LIVING LEARNING Welcome to Georgetown University! We are glad that you have decided to join our Hoya Family and we anticipate your arrival with great enthusiasm! In addition to supporting the academic and Jesuit mission of the University, as well as the mission of the Office of Residential Living, LLCs focus on integrating intellectual aspects of students’ lives outside of the classroom setting. LLCs connect various forms of learning through group activities, faculty and staff engagement and professional development opportunities. Each LLC has unique and specific themes, drawing students with shared values and passions to collaborate in creating vibrant communities that foster intellectual growth, with a twist of fun and self ownership!
