Saba Saboor Rooh Mofrad is a microbiology pre med major and this is her second semester at SIU. Saba is a photographer at the Daily Egyptian but she occasionally writes about her country and culture for the paper and other students to enjoy!

The Daily Egyptian is published by the students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale on a weekly basis. Fall and spring semester editions run every Wednesday. The Daily Egyptian, the student-run news organization of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is committed to being a trusted source of news, information, commentary and public discourse, while helping readers understand the issues affecting their lives.

Publishing Information

The Daily Egyptian is published by the students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and functions as a laboratory for the School of Journalism in exchange for the room and utilities in the Communications Building. The Daily Egyptian is a non-profit organization that survives primarily off of its advertising revenue. Offices are in the Communications Building, room 1259, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Carbondale, Ill., 62901.

Submissions

Letters and guest columns must be submitted with author’s contact information, preferably via email. Phone numbers are required to verify authorship, but will not be published. Students must include their year and major. Faculty must include rank and department. Others include hometown. Submissions should be sent to editor@dailyegyptian.com

Ethan Grimm is a junior majoring in cinema. This is his second semester at SIU and first year working for the Daily Egyptian. He is a photojournalist for the newspaper and covers many different things, but focuses mainly on sports.

Mo Collar is a photographer and reporter for the Daily Egyptian. Their major is zoology but has a journalism and photography double minor. They are a sophomore here at SIU and absolutely love working with animals and plan on becoming a wildlife photojournalist in the future.

Michael Burton is a sophomore at SIU majoring in cinematography with a minor in radio. He is one one of the photographers for The Daily Egyptian. An interesting fact about him is that he loves the fall! The perfect world does not exist without good food and fall time!

Will Giessinger is a photographer at the Daily Egyptian. He is a freshman at SIU who is studying media production. This job has been an interesting and really insightful experience for him. He really loved learning more about using a canon camera, getting to work in a really helpful and supporting environment, and having the opportunity to gain experience for his future career.

Meet the Designers Meet the Designers

Peyton Cook is a sophomore majoring in marketing at SIU. This is her fourth semester at SIU and she plans to graduate in spring of 2025. Peyton is the design chief of the Daily Egyptian. She is also a member of the Marching Salukis. Her interests include hanging out with her dog, color guard, and making tons and tons of lists.

Devon Moon is a senior majoring in graphic and industrial design. This is his eigth semester with SIU and plans to graduate in spring 2023. This is his second semester at the Daily Egyptian and is Vice President of the IDSA and AIGA RSOs. He enjoys drawing, animation, and longboarding.

Lane Frost is a junior studying psychology at SIU. This is Lane’s second semester at SIU with plans to graduate in spring of 2025 and to continue his education. Lane has many interests in music, philosophy, fitness, gaming, and spending time with friends.

Brooke Nicholas is a freshman double majoring in communication and industrial design at SIU. This is her second semester at SIU and plans to graduate in 2026. Brooke’s hobbies include drawing, painting, and hiking in Shawnee National Forest.

Day Starr-Fleming is a freshman majoring in radio, television, and digital media, and minoring in art at SIU. Day plans to use their design to secure a position as a storyboard artist or animator. In their spare time, they enjoy watching animated shows, photographying mushrooms, and drawing. This is their second semester working for the Daily Egyptian.

Yarauseth Zavala is a junior studying communication design at SIU. This is her fourth semester at SIU and plans to graduate in spring of 2024. This is Yarauseth’s first semester at the Daily Egyptian and her hobbies include drawing, gardening, and collecting shiny things.
