Daniel Lobo Friends say Daniel Lobo, 22, was “perfect and amazing.” Lobo was killed in Gurnee, Illinois, on Nov. 20, when someone opened fire on the car in which he was a passenger; the result of a road rage incident, according to police. Lobo was a biological science student just six months from completing his master’s degree. His sister, Iztel Lobo, said he was “so close to reaching his dreams.” His roommate, Emmanuel Ayeni, said Daniel Lobo was “loved by everyone.” “He was visionary about things we wanted to do after school. In general, his hopes and goals were to be impactful to people in the medicine field,” Ayeni said.

Joseph Ermel Aviation student Joseph Ermel was killed in a motorcycle crash on Oct. 27, in Alto Pass, Illinois. His mother, Aymee Zimmerman, said Ermel lost control of his bike and hit a guardrail. “Joe had a heart for God and was always prayerful and lived by faith,” Zimmerman said. His mother is urging friends and family to honor Ermel’s memory by living their lives to their “impeccable best” just as he did. There is now a cross memorial at the accident site to remind others to be cautious.

Jacob Jurinek “Witty and outspoken” third year journalism student Jacob Jurinek was among ten people who died as a result of a crowding crisis at the Travis Scott Astroworld concert in Houston on Nov. 5. Classmate Mikaylan Roach said, “Everyone is so heartbroken and in shock about this sudden loss in our community. I will miss his endless jokes and animated storytelling the most.” Jurinek was a member of AdLab and was passionate about graphic design. His friend Sammie Oxford said, “His determination and dedication came through in every project he worked on in AdLab and in his classes.”

Keeshanna Jackson Keeshanna Jackson was in her first week of college when she was shot to death while walking home from a party on Aug. 22. Three months later, on Nov. 22, Carbondale police again asked the public for help with any information that might lead to an arrest. There is $15,000 in reward funds for such information. Jackson was an aspiring entrepreneur who hoped to one day own her own manicure shop. “She was so silly and had a bubbly personality. She made everybody laugh and can brighten up anybody’s day,” her friend Kaszcha Jackson said. Another friend, Koran Snulligan, said, “In any situation, she would make you laugh and smile.”
