Meet the Photographers
Lylee Gibbs is a photographer at the Daily Egyptian. She is a freshman photojournalism major and she really enjoys covering the sports at SIU.

The Daily Egyptian is published by the students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale on a weekly basis. Fall and spring semester editions run every Wednesday. Mission Statement
The Daily Egyptian, the student-run news organization of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, is committed to being a trusted source of news, information, commentary and public discourse, while helping readers understand the issues affecting their lives.
Publishing Information
The Daily Egyptian is published by the students of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and functions as a laboratory for the School of Journalism in exchange for the room and utilities in the Communications Building. The Daily Egyptian is a non-profit organization that survives primarily off of its advertising revenue. Offices are in the Communications Building, room 1259, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Carbondale, Ill., 62901.

Submissions
Letters and guest columns must be submitted with author’s contact information, preferably via email. Phone numbers are required to verify authorship, but will not be published. Students must include their year and major. Faculty must include rank and department. Others include hometown. Submissions should be sent to editor@dailyegyptian.com
Ethan Grimm is a photojournalist for the Daily Egyptian and a cinema major at SIU. He is a third-year student and food is his weakness, especially nachos/burritos.
DiAngelo Kwasny is a photographer at the DE. He is a junior majoring in art history and one interesting fact about him is that he was featured on Rico Nasty’s Instagram page once in a video with over a million views.
Mo Collar is a photographer and reporter for the Daily Egyptian. Their major is zoology but they have a journalism and photography double minor. They are a sophomore here at SIU and absolutely love working with animals and plan on becoming a wildlife photojournalist in the future.
Michael Burton is a sophomore at SIU majoring in cinematography with a minor in radio. He is one of the photographers for the Daily Egyptian. An interesting fact about him is that he loves the fall! The perfect world does exist with good food and fall time!
Naia McPherson is a photographer
at the Daily Egyptian. She is a university studies major studying journalism and political science. She
went to high school in China and moved to Carbondale from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in October 2021.
Seth Martin is a senior studying industrial design at SIU. This is his fifth semester at SIU with plans to graduate in spring 2023. Seth is the Design Chief at the DE and president of IDSA, an industrial design RSO. His interests include sketching, model-making, and spending time outdoors.
Peyton Cook is a sophomore majoring in marketing. This is her third semester at SIU and she plans to graduate in spring of 2025. Peyton has spent two semesters as a graphic designer at the DE. Peyton’s interests include yoga, color guard, writing, drawing, and making tons and tons of lists.
Anika Svancarek is a junior, dual majoring in communications and industrial design. This is her fifth semester at SIU, and she plans to graduate in spring of 2025 with a dual Bachelor’s of Fine Arts. She has been a designer for the DE for three semesters, and she loves to draw, go to concerts, and hang out with friends. She also has a little black cat named Dracula.
Devon Moon a senior majoring in graphic and industrial design at SIU. This is his seventh semester with a plan to graduate in spring 2023. Devon is a graphic designer at the DE and is vice president of the IDSA and AIGA RSO’s. He enjoys drawing, animation, and longboarding
Lane Frost is a junior studying psychology at SIU. This is Lane’s first semester at SIU with plans to graduate in spring of 2025 and to continue his education. Lane is a designer for the Daily Egyptian and plans to be for the rest of his time at the school. Lane has interests in music, philosophy, fitness, gaming, and spending time with friends.
Brooke Nicholas is a freshman double majoring in communication and industrial design. This is her very first semester at the School of Art and Design and plans to
graduate in 2026 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Brooke’s hobbies include drawing, painting, and hiking in Shawnee National Forest.
Day Starr-Flemming is a freshman majoring in radio, television, and digital media, and minoring in art at SIU. Day plans to use their degree to secure a position as a
storyboard artist or animator. In their spare time, they enjoy watching animated shows, photographing mushrooms, and drawing. This is their first semester working for the DE.
