DAILY EGYPTIAN PHOTO EDITOR FALL 2009

My semester as picture editor was also my final semester at SIUC. Because of the Daily Egyptian, this semester has been one of the best but also one of my most trying semesters. Managing a group of my peers had some challenging moments but

also some very rewarding times. The same could be said for me about learning to work alongside close friends, where outside relationships may have been stretched once in awhile from tensions created at work. When I graduate, I will take with me so many memories from the Daily Egyptian, from friends falling off desks and sleeping on top of file cabinets to becoming an

extended family when the unexpected happens. I owe my achievements at SIUC to those same friends at the Daily Egyptian and the professors who helped push me along the way. I could name names, but I am sure they know who they are. Without them, I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today, and would not have been able to go where I want to go in the future.

JULIA RENDLEMAN | D AILY E GYPTIAN Of the thousands of people ga thered in Springfield for Lobby Day, nearly 400 were SIUC students who pushed for MAP grant funding, said Nate Brown, student trustee.

Levi Biedermann, a junior studying art education and photography, spins fire for a crowd at the Ski House on Route 13. Biedermann said he has been practicing fire spinning, called Poi, for three months after learning about it at music festivals this summer. “It’s unearthly,” Bierdermann said. “It’s a way to release yourself and disconnect yourself from all the negative energy and bad stuff in life and just release.” ISAAC SMITH D AILY E GYPTIAN Mark Gindlesparger makes his way to the top of his hot air balloon to make it deflate after a ride on Oct. 4. Aries (March 21-April 19) — Today is a 6 — There’s plenty of communication today. The only problem is that it’s so confusing. Consider each item before you decide. Taurus (April 20-May 20) — Today is a 7 — Don’t be afraid to get your work done early. Someone will bring a new project that fires your imagination. No pressure! Gemini (May 21-June 21) — Today is a 7 — More imagination is needed to complete projects before a deadline. Your part gets done. Chip in to help others. Cancer (June 22-July 22) — Today is a 6 — Ideas fly in every direction! Don’t pretend you can grab each one. Take the most practical ones to heart. Leo (July 23-Aug. 22) — Today is a 6 — Use your time wisely today. Develop potential by concentrating on independent action. There’s enough time later to work with the group.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22) — Today is a 7 — Imagine knowing exactly what to do. Not quite there? Follow your heart anyway. It works out fine. Scorpio (Oct. 23—Nov. 21) — Today is a 5 — If you can sort out fact from fiction, you’re ahead of average. Confusion reigns today. Postpone decisions. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21) — Today is a 7 — Approach each issue with an open mind. Don’t jump to conclusions before you have explored the possibilities. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19) — Today is an 8 — You feel that success is nearly within your grasp. You see the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep moving forward! Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18) — Today is a 7 — You really want your own way. Others object. Modify your presentation to maximize your chances. Accept the outcome. Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Today is a 6 — Face it: Your mind is not on your work right now. But then, nobody’s focused all the time. Put it on tomorrow’s list and go play.
