DAILY EGYPTIAN PHOTO EDITOR FALL 2009
My semester as picture editor was also my final semester at SIUC. Because of the Daily Egyptian, this semester has been one of the best but also one of my most trying semesters. Managing a group of my peers had some challenging moments but
also some very rewarding times. The same could be said for me about learning to work alongside close friends, where outside relationships may have been stretched once in awhile from tensions created at work. When I graduate, I will take with me so many memories from the Daily Egyptian, from friends falling off desks and sleeping on top of file cabinets to becoming an
extended family when the unexpected happens. I owe my achievements at SIUC to those same friends at the Daily Egyptian and the professors who helped push me along the way. I could name names, but I am sure they know who they are. Without them, I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today, and would not have been able to go where I want to go in the future.

Angie Bailey, director of health education at the Jackson County Health Department, said the department has seen a number of flu cases, but are instructed to treat any flu symptons as H1N1.

The money raised from the night will be matched by two private grants for scholarships and research in the School of Art and Design. Tammy Wright, of Elkville, consoles Lisa Evans, of Dowell, as she watches her son, Pfc. Eric Evans, who returned from his first tour of duty in Afghanistan at a ceremony in the Williamson County Pavilion. Levi Biedermann, a junior studying art education and photography, spins fire for a crowd at the Ski House on Route 13. Biedermann said he has been practicing fire spinning, called Poi, for three months after learning about it at music festivals this summer. “It’s unearthly,” Bierdermann said. “It’s a way to release yourself and disconnect yourself from all the negative energy and bad stuff in life and just release.” ISAAC SMITH D AILY E GYPTIAN Mark Gindlesparger makes his way to the top of his hot air balloon to make it deflate after a ride on Oct. 4.
