DEDICATED to all the people who made everything possible in any and all ways. Patricularly my parents, Carlos and Sonia. my sisters, Gina and Sonibel. To professors who always have, and still guide, and INSPIRE Socorrito Díaz, who was there at the BEGINNING, and still believes in me. Mayra Jiménez, my first architecture professor who taught me the FUNDAMENTALS and has always supported me. Humberto Cavallin, for being a teacher, and a friend with UNWAIVERING support. Emilio Martínez, who taught me to see beyond the floor plan, and for giving me a chance. To the friends who supported me and stuck with me. To ARCHITECTS who inspire me through their work: Peter Eisenman, Bjarke Ingels, Carme Pinós, and ENRIC MIRALLES

When I’m asked now what type of architecture I’m interested in, finally I have an answer: that which is capable of not being demagogic. That is to say, that which is capable of not hiding the complex reality from which it comes from. —Enric Miralles

HOSTEL FORatHISTORIANS Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras studio design work second year studio

This project is situated in Cayey, Puerto Rico. The site is particular because it’s on a mountain and has a Roadman’s House in the premises. The design requires the integration of this Roadman’s House into the hostel.

This Hostel must be tailored to the needs of historians, which is why a library is one of the predominant functions in t he program. The design, amidst its triangulations, engufulls the Roadman’s House somewhat until it frees up its views. Library and room prorams are carefully hidden in the terrain, freeing up the main space behind the Roadman’s House for use as a plaza.

PARTI DIAGRAM

Colegio San Ignacio requested from our studio a Master Plan. The original campus was designed by Henry Klumb, an important figure in Puerto Rican architectural history. The campus presently counts with 8 academic buildings and 1 building for the Society of Jesus. The orientation of the buildings promptly indicated the parti: enclose the campus in a pedestrian triangle. 5....

This High School, located at the edge of an important avenue, addresses an urban front, as well as houses at the opposite end. The concept was envisioned as a nucleus of vegetated recreation area enclosed by buildings, taller buildings towards the front of the avenue, and the lower ones towards the houses. This way, the scale problem was solved and also provided a way of securing the school.

The new Performing Arts Center in the MayagĂźez campus of the Universidad de Puerto Rico is a design that integrates both the institutional character of the theater with the academic aspect of the performing arts. This theater serves as a hybrid, combining the theater core, along with administrative offices, and educational floors. The building brings a new and attractive facade to the main-access of the campus, dignifying a once completely utilitarian and underdeveloped road.

The City Council would approve in 2006 a reorganization of the whole sector of Can Batlló which mainsatins some industrial buildings, creates a park, and more than a thousand households. As of yet this plan has not been carried out. This project creates a new proposal of what this area could be to help further develop the neighborhood of la Bordeta.

mixed use aprox. 30m

Can Batlló is the name of the factory of Joan Batlló, it is an industrial complex located in Barcelona, Spain. In the late nineteenth century, this textle factory gave live to the neighborhood of la Bordeta. Later in the twentieth century, the factory would fall into decay, prompting a social plea from the neighborhood to rehabilitate the area.

The Locust Grove Cemetery is a project which stems from the desire to generate a piece of architecture which was considerate towards the buried, and sensitive to the families that remained. This project is about more than a building, it is about a void, a space where the living can reflect on life and the departed. Poetry on what it means to approach the project is essential. REPLACING work STAIRS at COLEMAN-DAVIS PAGร N Arquitectos design work professional work

with: J.R. Coleman-Davis Pagรกn

Seeing these stairs as more than stairs, they were envisioned as a sculptural element which cemented itself to the dwelling.

For this project, the client comissioned a new set of exterior stairs that led up to an apartment that was rented out to turists. The original stairs were uncomfortable and out of date, which required them to be replaced.

DESECHEO VIEW work at COLEMAN-DAVIS PAGร N Arquitectos design work professional work

with: J.R. Coleman-Davis Pagรกn

Desecheo View was a commission which required 7 retreat houses set upon a mountain side which overlooked the sea and an island. With this in mind all the different programs were placed on individual floors as to maximize the view to the landscape of each space. The buildings are then placed in stilts to elevate them from the topography changes.
