Catedra Blanca XXXIII | Master´s Degree Final Project Arch. Agustin Landa Aug-Dec 2019 Outstanding Project Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Arch Gustavo Ramirez

Model tranfer center CETRAM Mitras is a complex where differente public transportation systems converge. It is located in the center of Mitras, Monterrey, a strategic point with issues management in between the subway stop, ecovia stop and the informal bus stop, beacuse there is not an aproppiate infraestructure to cover the influx of persons. The project revolves around a main plaza, keeing the actual infraestructure of the superficial subway and generating a new covering which brings light and better quality for the users. To put order in this place, the plaza stays free just for pedestrian and bike users, and the ecovia plus bus stops are transformed to an appropiate bus station in the ground floor of one building. Furthermore, the complex has series of ramps that invite the bike user to travel around the building. Finally, to bring life and economy support in this place, the buildings are used as a mall and offices in the upper levels. It counts with a market, commercial locals, restaurant zone and all the necessary equipment.

Rules According with the master plan rules, we are located in the center of Mitras, that means that our land use permit is mixed. Therefore, it is allowed to use as public service, commercial and offices.

Cultural Center Roots is a landmark located at the center of Distrito Tec; this project was commissioned by Distrto Tec Directors. The project is composed by one building with an auditorium for 2500 people and surrounding it a cultural center with workshops, exhibition areas and amenities. The main concept starts with the question: what is Mexico? We answer this question with “Mexico is culture”, for Mexico is the integration of traditions, activities and mainly the sense of community; the sense that we are one. This is why we try to generate the integration of the neighbours and the ITESM community through the public exterior and interior spaces. The parametric design is an expresion that has similarities with craft design, for each piece is unique and you must be careful with the details. This is why we decided to create the parametric covering, emulating the uniqueness of each piece so that the pattern resembles the traditional mexican embroidery. Finally, Mexico and the ITESM are qualified for developing these kind of projects. The concept is not something imposible to create in a near future; the development of pieces with “a crafted style” for the covering is not unimaginable.

The cantiliever and parametric design follow the prevailing winds and solar incidence.

Cultural Center Roots is an integration between parametric design and mexican culture. It shows that Mexico has the tecnology for these kind of architectural projects

Conceptual Sketch

The lot is located in middle of the new complex of houses in the main street.

The building is divided in 4 pieces that come down to the main entrance. It allows the presbytery to have the highest elevation point and better lighting.

Taking advantage of the slope, I created two plataforms where the basement is the parking and the church is in the superior platform which generates a piazza

The church acquires dynamism through the geometry which allows light input. The complex is divided in different buildings because of its function and this generates spaces for exterior activities.

GARCHU HOSTEL

Garchu Hostel is a tourism destination for people who are looking for adventure; it is located in the dream-like Cozumel Island.

CDMX

Cozumel

The project revolves around the diamond dorm; this concept was born because Cozumel is a island that has diamonds as raw material as you can see it in the main street. The complex geometry inside the building starts with the diamond dorm volume and it creates tension with other building. However, the facade respects the inmediatle and traditional neighborhood style. The purpose is to create the transition from the local zone to the hostel. Garchu Hostel is looking for the integration between local people and tourists, for the division is quite remarkable and one of the project´s objectives is an open public bar that will be a meeting point in the island.

Main Street

Guidline for designing People who are looking for adventure in nature

Lot Port

The plot is located 15 min away by walking from the main street Cozumel has a warm humid weather; the highest registreted temperature is of 34°C Taking advantage of the orientation using passive systems Encouraging the use of the bicycle

Design Process

There is not height restriction, but the Garchu Hostel is aligned with the neighborhood and creates a small public space in front

Inspired from a diamond, the smaller building adopts this form. In consecuence, the largest building creates tension through the geometry

The context and the constructive structure forces the facade to be at in the current atmosphere. The piazza is open for people who lives in Cozume and as well as for turists.

HOP is the new iconic building of the research center located in blueFACTORY innovation district in Fribourg. The objetive of the SLL (Smart Living Lab) is to create an open, flexible, integrative and remarkable environmental performance space where people interested in innovation and with high quality of creativity can use to share knowledge, information and experiments. The main concept is designed around the core idea that would be consider as “the animal”, which interacts with the environment. It start in the center with the atrium, that brings people together thanks to its position and integration of the staircase. It continous throughout some winter gardens that promote an important connection in between interior and exterior. Moreover, it has biodegradable materials bacause the aim is to achive zero carbon emissions. On the other hand, the structure is made of wood, which also works as ventilation system in collaboration with the facade and the winter gardens. Finally, the importance of this building is the aproach on the future with new tecnologies, save energy, livable spaces and community spirit.
