Dental inlays and onlays are also called indirect fillings, and both are used to repair a tooth’s chewing surface. Your dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay for teeth that are too damaged or decayed for a traditional filling but not advanced enough for a crown. Inlays and onlays are both used to fix damage caused by teeth grinding.
