DENTAL INLAYS AND ONLAYS
Dental inlays and onlays are also called indirect fillings, and both are used to repair a tooth’s chewing surface. An inlay fits into a tooth’s pits andgrooves.Anonlayismoreextensive and is also called a partial crown. It covers one or more of a tooth’s cusps. Your dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay for teeth that are too damaged or decayed for a traditional filling but not advanced enough for a crown. If you have a cavity but not enough tooth structure to support a regular filling, you may receive an inlay or onlay instead. Onlays are routinely used to repair cracked teeth. Inlays and onlays are both used to fix damage caused by teeth grinding.
