CHALLENGES OF GOING REMOTE WITH YOUR BUSINESS CUSTOMER SERVICE: Ensuring customers can seamlessly connect with your business, and your customer service staff in particular, should be a priority when switching to a remote work setting. Remote customer service employees won’t have the direct access to management and fellow team members that they had when working on-site, so business owners can employ central management platforms that make it easy to access information regarding new products and services and previous interactions with and responses to customers. That access can help solve issues while reducing the likelihood of substantial lag time as customer service employees wait to hear from coworkers and managers about how to respond to certain issues. HOST A SUCCESSFUL Price things reasonably It’s tempting to but a good rule of thumb is to mark things for one-half to one-third of the original value. Be open to negotiation, but try to haggle with a “buy one get one” approach, rather than marking down the price considerably. After all, the goal is to get rid of as many items as possible, with financial gain a distant second.

The short answer is prune your sour cherry in the spring. For most fruit trees, spring (before the buds open into flowers and leaves) is the best time to prune unwanted limbs and branches.Growth and healing of live wood cuts begin right away and limit exposure of open wounds to insects and disease. One exception to that rule is sweet cherries. Since they are more susceptible to fungal and bacterial diseases, they should be pruned in late summer to minimize exposure.
A product that contains glyphosate will be absorbed into the roots and probably most effective, though repeated applications may be needed. If this weed is still growing after you have harvested your vegetables, you could use a tarp to cover the area and smother them where they are growing over the winter. - Julie Brocklehurst-Woods, Master GardenerVolunteer Should I prune my sour cherry tree in the spring orinthefall?
President John F. Kennedy was buried without his brain. The original reason given was that it had been “lost” during his autopsy, but in 2018, newly released U.S. government documents revealed that his brother, Robert Kennedy, ordered the brain secretly destroyed to ensure that it would never be displayed in a museum.
STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne
Purslane is a vigorous weed that can be difficult to kill. Since it is close to your vegetables, you could carefully apply a weed killing product using a paint brush. Read the product label to make sure it is effective with this plant and follow all label instructions for your personal safety.

On a similar note, if wine is the beverage of choice, always keep grapes frozen in a bag in the freezer. I am very pleased with this successful treatment. However, my urologist has mentioned that I might have to relinquish the Bactrim at some point without a full explanation of why. Is there any danger in the habitual use of Bactrim? -J.M. ANSWER: Both men and women who get recurrent urinary infections are sometimes treated with prophylactic antibiotics, such as the sulfa-based antibiotic you are taking. The main risk is not toxicity of the medicine, it is that you might acquire a bacterial strain that is resistant to the antibiotic treatment.

You are fortunate that you have gone several years without this developing, and you may go many more successfully, but other people periodically need to change the antibiotic they are Prophylactictaking. antibiotics are not the first-line treatment to prevent recurrent infection.

*** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible.
Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder in which a person repeatedly pauses or stops breathing. People with sleep apnea have higher rates of teeth grinding, and recent studies have shown that sleep apnea actually causes teeth grinding in some patients. Teeth grinding during sleep may also be caused by stress, anxiety, an abnormal bite, and missing or crooked teeth. Over time, teeth grinding can wear teeth down, loosen them, damage the jawbone, and cause tooth loss. Not sure if you’re a teeth grinder? Your dentist can look for signs such as jaw tenderness and excessive wear of the teeth. A dentist can also fit sleep apnea patients with a mouth guard that protects teeth during sleep. If you have questions about sleep apnea and bruxism (teeth grinding), be sure to discuss your concerns with us at BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL.

“How many of you haven’t taken an exercise class in two years?” asked the too-young male exercise coach we’d never met before.

Hands went up. ere was a knowing nod from the coach and the admonishment: “We’ll be taking this nice and easy. Do not push yourselves. If you need to stop and rest, then do that. Nobody will judge you.” He cast a erce look around the room as he said that. e routine the coach put us through was a perfect combination of nearly everything, starting with mild stretching, moving into a few minutes of yoga poses, some cha-cha steps, a few ballet moves, leg li s, toe touches andDuringmore.our cool down (although we hadn’t actually worked up a sweat) the coach inquired: “How many want to do this again? Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of arrhythmia, which is a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat during which the heart can beat too fast, too slow or with an irregular rhythm. Atrial fibrillation, or AF, occurs when rapid, disorganized electrical signals cause the atria, which consists of the heart’s two upper chambers, to contract very fast and irregularly. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, when a person is suffering from AF, blood begins to pool in his or her atria. While that blood pools in the atria, it is not being pumped completely into the heart’s two lower chambers, and this prevents the lower and upper chambers from working together effectively. Though AF does not always produce noticeable symptoms, some people with AF experience chest pain or heart failure, especially when the heart rhythm is rapid. AF can increase a person’s risk of stroke, and it may surface periodically or become an ongoing problem that lasts for years. There is only one type of school choice program that allows families to receive funds into a flexible spending account to customize an education for their child. They are called education savings accounts, or ESAs. And according to EdChoice’s Public Opinion Tracker, 67 percent of Americans support them.
These results are part of a new, larger polling project, the EdChoice Public Opinion Tracker.is new dashboard updates every month with results of public survey questions not only on COVID-19 but also on K–12 education topics such as schooling, testing, spending and school choice.
They found that parents are clearly anxious about sending their kids back to school; 66 percent said they were concerned their children will be exposed to the virus in school. The majority (68%) are also concerned their child is missing important instruction time.
SCHOOLS, PARENTS AND COVID-19 (NAPSI) — K–12 education has gone through a seismic shift in the wake of COVID-19.
The silver lining to so many states having closed down brick and mortar schools: A solid majority of parents said they felt at least somewhat prepared for the transition to e-learning and distance learning. Parents are slightly more likely to say they felt very or somewhat prepared (70%) than were teachers (67 percent).

Two years in the making, the tool crowdsources, validates and translates complex data about the dogs and cats in U.S. shelters. 1. Engage the mind. Staying mentally active over the course of a lifetime promotes long-term health. Navigating unfamiliar places or reading a foreign language while sitting in an international country can engage the brain and get synapses firing. The Mayo Clinic reports that higher cognitive activity endows the brain with a greater ability to fend off brain pathologies, such as disease and dementias.
In addition to eating healthier, exercising more and getting more sleep, many people resolve to travel more at the dawn of a new year. Travel is much more than leaving one’s home. It’s about setting habits aside, escaping comfort zones and trying something different - and doing so in a different location. In its latest World Tourism Barometer, the United Nations World Tourism Organization found that 1.184 billion tourists traveled outside their countries’ borders for at least one night in 2015. HEALTHY SNACK TIME TASTE TESTS: Sometimes it feels like kids can snack all day long on easy-to-grab crackers, chips or cookies. Next time they reach into the snack pantry, try incorporating a taste test or food critic activity to encourage something different and more nutritious.
4. Develop opinions. Until a person visits a place in person, he or she only has third-party information to form opinions. Visiting a city or country for the first time can offer a more complete perspective. Travel gives people the chance to rest, explore, meet new friends, and make lasting memories.
3. Build confidence. Leaving one’s comfort zone can be a great way to bolster one’s self-esteem. Navigating cultural boundaries and overcoming those boundaries may be initially intimidating, but doing so can make a person more confident and more adaptable to change.
2. Connect with new people. Travel opens a person up to not only new experiences, but also new people. English poet John Donne penned the famous line, “No man is an island,” which underscores the importance of having friends and making new acquaintances. Research conducted by the University of Michigan found the act of talking with people in a friendly way can improve a person’s memory, suppress external and internal distractions, and encourage people to see things from another person’s perspective. It doesn’t hurt to broaden one’s social network, either.
PURPOSEFUL PLAYTIME: Many households have a play kitchen or some kind of play food. Use this as an opportunity to act out how to create a healthy kitchen with activities like making salad, setting the table, peeling bananas and washing dishes. This can help young children become more independent, learn what to expect and grow into little helpers at family mealtime.

GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER ● GVPENNYSAVER.COM 1-866-812-8111 Page27 BATAVIA EDITION ● FRIDAY,AUGUST 26,2022 RAVES RANTS Go to WWW.GVPENNYSAVER.COM and submit your own Rants and Raves under the tab - SHARE WITH US Riga Recreation Summer Camp Thanks!
Riga Recreation's annual Summer Camp was a smashing success these past seven weeks! This summer experience for our youngsters could not have taken place if not for the following individuals/organizations: Camp Director Dave Childs, along with his counselor staff that included counselor Gladys, the Churchville Elementary School custodial staff, the CCCSD Continuing Ed. Dept., Bauer Karate, CCMS Gardening, Rose Garden Bowling, The Magic Guy, Air Affair Bounce House, Arlene's Air Brush Tattoos, and Pizza 151 for making this summer a special one! - David Thomas, Recreation Supervisor, Town of Riga Thank you!
A huge Thank You to the person who found my purse at the Webster Goodwill store and turned it in to a cashier on Sunday, August 14th. I was panicked, and you saved the day. Bless you for your good deed and honesty. Our world needs more folks like you!
Private Property, Indeed!
I’m responding to the rant regarding the person troubled by a family posing their children for a photo in front of their farmland. “Personal boundaries” have become quite ridiculous in our country. Unless it’s a public park or state land, every piece of land is off limits and usually filled with those all-too-familiar posted signs. When my family traveled to Scotland a few years back, I quickly noticed the utter lack of those nasty posted signs. When I inquired with the host of the place we stayed at about the absence of Keep Out signs, we were told that there was a mutual respect of property there and that people were free to hike or roam on any piece of open land. I took her up on that and enjoyed that great freedom while feeling uneasy as it was so unusual to me. How nice it would be to have that same attitude here! I know there are those that abuse the privilege, but a true form of “common decency” allowing such a harmless act would remind us that America IS the land of the free.
Bowling Thanks
Pet Peeves Store bought flowers now having color but no fragrance. I miss florists and markets selling fragrant flowers. - In a parking lot, my vehicle was hit by a driver pulling into the parking space in front of my car. Calling out to that driver, that person looked and simply responded, “Oh, it is just a little bit!” - Are we entering a new normal of really high heat and humidity summers? - It makes no sense that Medicare does not cover an emergency services home visit.
A huge thank you to Tom from the Rose Garden Bowl in Bergen for donating 20 used bowling pins for a NEW recreation program called FOWLING. This is a brand new game which combines "FO" (football) and "OWLING" (bowling). Without Tom's generous donation, we could not have made this possible! - David Thomas, Recreation Supervisor, Town of Riga
Trash Thrown in Hayfield Today at 5:30 AM, I saw a vehicle stop so that the driver could toss a pile of filthy trash into our hayfield on (local road, local town), of mostly cigarette packs, many receipts identified with their debit card number, and a quantity of hard seltzer cans. I just picked it all up; metal fragments, in particular, can kill animals ingesting the baled hay. Be aware that your vehicle’s lights illuminated you! Fair warning: Next time, you will be reported to the sheriff’s office, because we become weary of picking up after pigs. The numerous convenience stores from which your garbage originated all have trash cans!

• Purge closets and cabinets. There’s no point allowing old, stained or damaged items to take up space. Set aside days to clear expired medication from the bathroom cabinet, discard ripped or ill-fitting clothing from the closet, or to dispose of broken toys in a nursery.
• Exercise caution before buying. Don’t buy more than you need; otherwise, you’ll have to find space for extra items. Also, keep inventory of food and supplies in the house so you’re not unwittingly buying duplicates.
Begin with training. One of the best things a pet owner can do for the wellbeing of a his or her dog is to ensure that it receives proper training from a young age. According to VetWest Animal Hospital experts, statistics show that owners who have pets that behave get more satisfaction and have stronger bonds with their pets. A dog that responds to basic commands can stay out of danger, and knowing what he is supposed to do can help the dog feel less stressed.

celebrate—and hopefully stay healthy—all year long!
• Buy the bulk of your child’s back-to-school clothes in October for the best deals.
Shi your Schedule the Week Before:
Prep like a Pro:
• Don’t forget your First Day of School photo & have fun!
• We love it: Make the rst day fun! Set the tone by decorating your child’s door with streamers and balloons!
Set First Day Expectations:
• Unsurprisingly, frequent hand washing continues to greatly reduce the risk of many communicable illnesses. Pocket-sized, great smelling hand soaps might encourage your child to scrub, scrub, scrub!
• If possible, lay out all your and your child’s out ts for the week, not just the next day.
• Prep grabbable, lunch-size portions of fruits and other healthy lunch “building blocks” to get kids involved in choosing their lunches.
• We love it: row a bu et dinner with your child’s favorite foods to celebrate the rst day of school.
• Avoid the sudden jolt of a much earlier wake up. Set earlier times incrementally leading up to the rst day of school, dialing back both the bedtime and the wake-up time 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or even an hour earlier every 5-7 days, as necessary until you reach your desired school schedule bedtime and wake up time. A full 8+ hours of sleep improves health and focus.
Set Sunday Evening Aside:
• Before you wake your child, get yourself ready.
• We love it: Create a summer memories journal or scrapbook with your child. Add notes, photos, drawn or colored pictures, and more! Ready Backpacks & Paperwork:
• We love it: Create a “drop zone” for your child’s things right next to where they walk in the door. Don’t forget a tray or stand for forms, notes, and other papers!
• Pack extra out ts in gallon-size freezer bags.
• Sanitizing is still important, so make sure your child has access to hand sanitizer, perhaps in mini bottles.
• We love it: Write cheerful messages on the sidewalk for your child to read along the way! No sidewalk? No problem! Display a banner or streamers from your porch or a tree instead!
BY AMANDA DUDEK
• Make the half hour before lights out reading time. Reading before bed has been found to improve sleep while reducing anxiety and stress. Join in, too!
• Use reminders to stay on pace as you get ready. Try setting an hour, half hour, een-minute, ve-minute, and leave now reminder, if necessary.

• Fill out all forms, i.e., immunization forms, permission slips by the week preceding the start of school. Find out what your school’s most updated policies are regarding vaccinations, masks, distancing, Covid testing, etc.

3. Reset Your Soul with Time for Yourself. In addition to carving out time for fitness, you need to make time for yourself. Creating positive energy in a chaotic world can be challenging but it’s important for overall health and well-being. You don’t have to be a yogi to meditate.
(NAPSI)—You
1. Release Your Mind by Escaping into Nature. Getting out into nature gives you the space and peace to release the things that bog you down. Escape the rush. Try camping in the wilderness or taking a scenic hike. Studies show that surrounding yourself with nature can have positive effects on mental health. Ditch the office and try working outdoors at a picnic table or on a blanket in the grass. Wherever you go, whatever you do, sit back and breathe in the fresh air.
RELEASE, REFRESH, RESET don’t have to let a busy schedule break your healthy stride or keep you from crushing your goals. You can regroup on your approach instead. By incorporating these three ways to release, refresh and reset, you can still make health a priority.

2. Refresh Your Exercise Routine with New Moves. Inspiration derives from new experiences, which is why exercise physiologist and Bowflex fitness advisor Tom Holland recommends mixing up your daily workout routine. “Give yourself the opportunity to explore and challenge yourself in new ways,” suggests Holland. Try a new workout program, or an exercise machine that moves you in new ways, such as the breakthrough Bowflex LateralX (www.bowflex.com/lateralx) cardio machine. It strengthens and activates muscles with side-to-side, pushand-pull and stand-and-squat motions that target the arms, back, hips and core, as well as common trouble spots including glutes, hamstrings and quads. By moving in all directions, you mimic everyday activities such as yard work, housecleaning or chasing after your kids. It’s a new and exciting workout that can keep you motivated.
Experts say to start small—try focusing for 10 minutes a day in a quiet place and don’t get frustrated if your mind wanders. It takes practice but the benefits are worth the investment. You may find you’re more calm and productive and you sleep better. Whatever helps you reset, create time in your schedule and act on it. You owe it to yourself.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A TEAM PLAYER
The ability to communicate, interact and work collectively with others is both a professional and personal asset. But in certain ways, the reliance on technology has made working as a team more complicated. People have grown accustomed to spending large quantities of time alone working at computers or on phones and tablets, potentially compromising their ability to work directly with others when the need arises. According to Monster.com, when it comes to choosing a candidate for a new job or promotion, employers consistently say they want a team player. That means it’s advantageous for professionals looking to further their careers to brush up on their team-building and social skills. Looking for a career working with Dairy and Beef Cattle? FT, must have a working knowledge of nutrition and medical care of cattle. We will train.
