FIVE TIPS TO HELP YOU ON THE ROAD TO YOUR NEW HOME (NAPSI)—Whenever you rent a truck to move yourself from one home to another, keeping these five facts in mind can help you and your furniture all arrive in good order and good time.
2. Read the agreement. Most truck rental agreements say something like the language from the U.S. Department of Transportation that prohibits the “carrying or hauling of explosives and other dangerous articles.” That means you can’t pack paint, chemicals and cleaning materials, flammable solvents, propane, gasoline and the like. Check with your rental agent if you’re not sure about a particular item. 3. Don’t be blindsided. Trucks have big blind spots, what the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration calls the “No-Zone.” You should know where these areas are, especially when changing lanes or coming to a stop. 4. Know what you’re driving. Make sure you can find and understand the use of all the truck’s switches and gauges. Adjust the seat and side mirrors so they match your height and comfort zone. Also, remember, trucks are taller, wider and may weigh up to 10 times more than the average car, explain the experts on truck rental at Penske, so you have to be extra vigilant. 5. Be sure to insure. Most insurance and credit card companies won’t cover truck rentals under existing policies. If your insurance company is among them, consider signing up for additional coverage options to protect yourself and your belongings. You may feel more confident knowing there is a company that offers free 24/7 emergency roadside assistance. Learn More: For further moving facts and tips, go to www. PenskeTruckRental.com or call (800) GO-PENSKE.

TAKING THE PAIN OUT OF LIVE EVENT MANAGEMENT (NAPSI)—Anyone involved in running a theater, festival, or a sporting or live music event knows all too well the difficulty of doing it on your own. Some event managers turn to third parties like Eventbrite or Ticketmaster to get help with critical ticket sales, but one of the biggest pain points is finding an effective ticketing solution that supports their brand. When ticketing, marketing, fundraising and donation activities are not synchronized, event managers spend more time managing their business rather than the event itself. This leads to lost profits and angry patrons. Rick Blair, co-founder of Artisan Center Theater in Hurst, TX, went through years of trying different ticket brokers to increase sales, but was put off by the high fees and lack of personal attention. He also found that the solutions he tried did not work well with his other tools. “I had separate platforms for ticketing, marketing, website updates and donor management. None of them talked to each other and the entire process was a mess,” he said. Two years ago, he discovered the Vendini ticketing platform. Now the theater has an all-in-one system to handle VIP alerts and online, mobile and box office ticket sales that integrates with e-mail, social and direct marketing. By using Vendini’s Patron Connect, Blair and his team are notified when a donor is coming to the show and where they will be sitting. “When I get the alert, I can rush to my office, write a thank-you card, and slip it onto the donor’s seat before they arrive. That has resulted in many new donations because everyone appreciates a personal touch. Patron Connect is one of my most powerful marketing tools.”

STRAWBERRY-GLAZED FRENCH TOAST WITH SWEETENED SOUR CREAM Serves 4 • • • • • • • • • • 1.
8 1-inch-thick bread slices, cut from a country or peasant loaf 2 cups half-and-half 4 egg yolks 3 tablespoons light brown sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, plus 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 cup sour cream 1 tablespoon granulated sugar 1/3 cup strawberry jam or preserves (see note 2) Arrange a rack at center position and preheat the oven to 400 F. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and bake until dry and very lightly browned, about 8 minutes per side. Watch carefully so that the bread does not burn. Remove the bread from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 200 F. 2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, egg yolks, brown sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture into a shallow pan (a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish works well). Add the GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

toasted bread slices and soak them 4 minutes per side. Remove to a large plate or platter. 3. Place a large, heavy frying pan over low to medium heat. Add about 2 teaspoons of the butter, or enough to coat the bottom of the pan lightly. When melted, add enough bread slices to fit comfortably in a single layer. Cook slowly until the slices are golden brown and crisp on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Remove to a baking sheet and place in the warm oven. Repeat, adding more butter to the pan as needed until all the bread slices have been sautéed. 4. In a small bowl, stir together the sour cream, granulated sugar and remaining 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. 5. When ready to serve, spread each toast with a thin coating of strawberry jam and top with a dollop of sweetened sour cream. Note 1: The best bread for this dish is an unsliced loaf of good-quality peasant or country bread, preferably one without an extra-hard crust. One that is rectangular, rather than round, is more convenient, but either will do. Cut off the ends of the loaf, and reserve for another use. Then slice the bread into 1-inch-thick slices. If your loaf is large and the slices seem large, cut them in half. Note 2: You can try other jams, preserves or marmalades. Cherry, raspberry or peach preserves and orange marmalade are other possibilities.

For example, with hard work in mind, a new collection of pants has been created by Carhartt with a unique blend of durability and functionality. “Our company has been around for nearly 130 years, and throughout our history, we’ve continued to improve our product offerings to fit the needs of our hardworking consumers,” says Deb Ferraro, vice president of product development at Carhartt. “This new collection of pants reinforces our commitment to setting a new standard for workwear.” Carhartt’s Steel Multi-Pocket pant, Steel Double-Front pant, and Steel Cargo pant feature the brand’s Full Swing® technology and a fabric blend of cotton, nylon and spandex. First introduced in 2015, Full Swing® uses stretch panels to provide ease of movement in the joints, improving hardworking consumers’ range of motion where they need it most—both on and off the job. Additionally, each of the new pant styles is equipped with knee pad openings designed to fit the company’s most recent innovation in knee protection. The Carhartt knee pad features a strapless, honeycomb design that maximizes durability and comfort, providing an easy-to-wear solution for impact protection. The launch of these new work pants coincides with a celebration of Carhartt’s oldest work pants. The classic Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungaree was first introduced to the company’s product line in 1939, and it is now the focal point of the brand’s latest campaign celebrating its sewing, cutting and distribution associates. The video highlights the product details while unveiling the craftsmanship behind every pair of the B01 Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungarees. PEST CONTROL
DRAFTY WINDOWS ARE AN ISSUE Drafty windows make homes less comfortable by allowing cold air in during the winter and warm air in when temperatures rise. But comfort is not the only concern associated with leaky windows, as such fixtures also can have a negative impact on the environment. Leaky windows require heating and cooling systems to work harder to keep home interiors comfortable during times of the year when temperatures can be extreme. In the dead of winter, a leaky window will force a home’s inhabitants to turn up the thermostat, which only increases energy consumption and energy bills. The same scenario plays out in summer, when leaky windows allow hot air in, leading homeowners to lower the temperature of air conditioning units so everyone inside is cool and comfortable.

My name is Sassy. I was dumped at the vets where my Mom used to work. I was tiny but thought I was bigger since I hissed at everyone. That’s why she named me Sassy but I’m really a love bug. Mom and I have been through a lot together. Lost Dad a few years ago but I was always there when Mom cried. I moved back to NY with her too. Not crazy about the cold but I sleep with Mom every night. ONLINE POLL: In Utica last week, one tow truck driver got down to his skivvies to pull three vehicles from floodwaters. His employer fired him because “he put his truck and equipment in extreme risk of being damaged.” Do you agree? • Yes, he is responsible for the equipment. • No, because the equipment was not damaged.
110 Clara Barton St., Dansville, NY • No way! Rescuing people is more important.
How to protect your pets from extreme heat Change pet’s exercise regimen. Pet owners who make sure their pets get daily exercise should change such routines when temperatures are on the rise. Midday walks or jogs should be switched to evenings or early mornings, when temperatures tend to be at their most moderate. In addition, cut back on the time spent exercising, as pets may have trouble breathing on hot days. When taking your dog for a jog or a run in the summertime, do so on the grass, avoiding asphalt, as hot asphalt can do significant damage to your pet’s paws. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Dansville’s First Pediatrician, Dr. Joan Flender: Up Close and Personal By Amanda Dudek
P
erched on the edge of her seat, Dr. Joan Flender answers questions with poise, honesty and passion. Her gaze steady, she has a reputation for making others feel heard, valued. In 1981, Dr. Flender, moved to Dansville, becoming, quite intentionally, its first ever pediatrician. “My husband worked in Rochester,” said Dr. Flender. “We drew an hour circle around Rochester and looked for anywhere there was a hospital.” Both Brockport and Canandaigua had pediatricians at the time, but Dansville did not. Dr. Flender decided she would be the first. “Plus, it’s gorgeous here,” she quipped. Raised in New York City and Long Island, Dr. Flender always enjoyed science and working with people. “I was a psychology major,” explained Dr. Flender. “I took the MCATS because all of my friends were taking them.” Dr. Flender went on to Cornell Medical College then U of R for her residency. It was there she felt drawn to pediatrics and child development. “I loved seeing a child at six months, then again at six years, watching the child grow,” she said. “My goal in life was to make a difference,” explained Dr. Flender. “I realized the best way to do that would be to move to a small town where they had never had a pediatrician and to try to improve health care for kids.” “I joined Tricounty Family Medicine,” Dr. Flender recalled. “It was wonderful.” Her first patients were referrals from the school. “The first few children we saw were quite sick,” said Dr. Flender. “Perhaps because they were not seen regularly or because they hadn’t had a pediatrician here before.” Pediatricians spend three years focusing solely on children and teens. “We got the checkups going,” said Dr. Flender. “We established connections with the school, daycare... anything that has to do with kids.” In 1988, Dr. Flender started Stony Brook Pediatrics and was joined by Dr. Diane Rapp and Dr. Susan Slowinski. There are now 6 providers at offices in both Dansville and Geneseo. “I love what I do,” Dr. Flender reflected. “Would I do it again? Yes. I love the cross generational interaction here. In the city, people hang out with others their age. Here, it is more family-oriented and multigenerational.” Dr. Flender enjoys this within her own family. Married almost forty years, she raised her three sons in Dansville, and one of them, along with his wife, is currently raising his own family in the very home in which he was raised. Dr. Flender also takes a more personal approach to health care. “I will still do house visits,” she said. “Also, if I have bad news, I am not going to give that to you over the phone. I am going to come to your home. Sadly, we have had patients pass away, and some of those experiences have bonded me with families the most because we do it together if need be.” Little wonder Dr. Flender is beloved by many Dansville families. “My mother and I believe in ‘Be nice,’” she explained. “In my practice, we try to be helpful, pleasant and not get in people’s way when they are raising their kids.” “We have expanded hours and leave our phones on. When can working people make a phone call?” she asked. “On their lunch break! We accommodate them. We don’t let those things that bother us happen to our patients.” Dr. Flender also takes an active role in the community, serving on the Board of Health and on the board at Noyes. “I’ll go to school

meetings or observe a kid in school, and we don’t charge for that,” she said. “It’s just part of what we do. We are involved with the school and have been the physicians, free-of-charge, for Rotary Camp since 1981.” “We have our own foundation, as well,” added Dr. Flender. “Some people know about it and contribute to it. When a child becomes very ill, sometimes, a parent has to stay home to care for that child for several weeks or months. We quietly pay a couple of months of their mortgage, help out with gas money or other needs. We just tell them to pay it forward.” “It is a career for me, not just a 9-5,” said Dr. Flender. “I didn’t want to have a strict divide between work and home. I wanted it to merge. I managed to make that work, and I am very happy.” Dr. Flender reads two science magazines and several medical journals every week, too. “It is a passion of mine, and I love it,” she said. “One of my great fears is not knowing everything!” Although Dr. Flender now heads south each winter, she does not yet see retirement on her horizon. “Medicine and science excite me,” she said. “There have been amazing changes. In 1981, it was basically an infectious disease practice. We were seeing all sorts of things that now, with vaccines, we don’t see anymore.” “Over time, we have become more focused on behavioral concerns,” she said. “We now have the luxury to focus on that - Dr. Joan Flender because we are not worried about children dying all the time, which is truly lovely. Kids live longer and healthier than they ever have.” When asked what she would say to young people interested in entering the medical field, Dr. Flender didn’t hesitate. “Do it,” she answered. “It is such a privilege to take care of patients and for families to let you participate in their lives. It is just a lovely thing to do to help people feel better and be with them through both good and difficult times.”
My goal in life was to be able to make a difference in the world, and in the medical field, I can make that difference.

ENJOYING THRILLS AT AMUSEMENT PARKS One of the more beloved ways for thrill-seekers to spend a day off is to visit an amusement park. Amusement parks take many shapes. Some may be small, traveling carnivals, while others are large parks that draw visitors from all over the country. Amusement parks typically feature hair-raising rides, games of skill, tasty food, and gift shops. That means there’s something for everyone. Although they may seem like a relatively modern concept, amusement parks, fairs and carnivals actually have storied histories. In fact, historians say that carnivals and local fairs have been around since the Middle Ages. According to History.com, amusement parks, once dubbed “pleasure gardens” and “trolly parks,” sprung up across the United States and Europe in the 19th century.

HOBBIES FOR DIFFERENT PERSONALITY TYPES Hobbies can provide a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Finding the right hobby requires the consideration of a host of factors, including one’s own personality. The following are some common personality types and the hobbies they might find rewarding. The Athlete: Athletes can pursue a host of potential hobbies or activities that will foster their love of sports. Men and women who still have a hop in their step can sign up to compete in adult sports leagues. Depending on the sport, leagues might be available to adults of various ages and skill levels, and some may even be more focused on fun than competition. For athletes who can no longer lace up their cleats, coaching youth sports or volunteering to coach at a nearby school provides a chance to stay involved even if competing is no longer possible. The Reader: Book lovers also can channel their passions for the written word into a rewarding hobby. While reading might not seem like the most social activity, readers who want to use their love of books to grow their social networks can start a book club. People of all ages and backgrounds love to read, so starting a book club can be a great way to meet an array of people. Readers also can call their local libraries or schools to ask about reading programs for children. Volunteer to read to youngsters, helping the next generation discover the wonders of reading. The Executive: Men and women who have experienced great success in the world of business can pursue a host of low-stress opportunities with a goal of sharing their experiences with the next generation of business leaders. Teaching a course at a local college or university is one such avenue, and executives can even offer to work with high school students interested in pursuing careers in business. Teaching and mentoring might be less traditional hobbies than crocheting or woodworking, but they still provide a way for adults to pursue their passions away from the constraints of the office. The Traveler: Men and women who love to travel can begin writing travel blogs where they share stories of their domestic and international travels. Use the blog to offer an insider’s insight into certain cities, offering advice on obscure eateries or activities that might be off most tourists’ radars. Include photos with each blog post to attract more readers. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Shopping locally is a great w ay to benefit your community and, in many instances, your bottom line. W hen consumers shop locally, they help stimulate their local economies, creating jobs for their neighbors by helping local businesses grow and thrive. Shopping locally also saves shoppers long trips to the mall that can w aste expensive fuel, especially if consumers don’t find w hat they’re looking for. Shopping locally is especially important w hen the economy is struggling, as smaller businesses are not alw ays as capable of bearing the brunt of a recession as larger ones.

HOROSCOPE ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Be careful not to allow the backers of a new financial “deal” to pull the wool over the Lamb’s eyes. It could hold fewer plusses and more negatives than you were first led to believe. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) It’s a good idea to finish all incomplete tasks so that you can devote your attention to next week’s projects. The weekend could hold surprises for romantic Fernandas and Ferdinands. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) A workplace suggestion you made a while ago that you might have forgotten could come back with a request to turn it from idea to reality. Your social life picks up considerably this weekend. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Someone from the past could return with an intriguing opportunity for a future project. Check into it, by all means. But don’t neglect your current responsibilities in the meantime. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Keeping your claws sheathed and using good humor instead to counter someone who’s badmouthing the Big Cat isn’t easy. But it’s the best way to avoid more problems down the line. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) A workplace situation could improve if you’re less critical and more supportive of those who are, after all, trying to do their best. Let them know you’re there to help when necessary. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A new job offer might not carry all the benefits you’re seeking. Make sure you know what you’re entitled to, what is off the table and what is negotiable before you make a decision. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A social obligation you would rather get out of could hold some surprisingly positive aspects. Why not go and see for yourself? A family member makes a curious request. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Before tackling that new project awaiting you at home or on the job, take time out for some much-deserved pampering to help lift your spirits and restore your energy levels. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Your social calendar begins to fill up more quickly than you expected. And that’s great. You deserve to enjoy some good fun after so much time spent on serious matters. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) A domestic situation continues to improve, thanks to all the tender, loving concern you’ve shown. A colleague makes a questionable move that you might want to check out sooner rather than later. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A sudden turn in a romantic relationship calls for both a rational and passionate response. Keep the love level high, but also find out why the problem arose in the first place. BORN THIS WEEK: You often set high standards for others. But to your credit, you set the same expectations for yourself.

IMPROVE OVERALL ENDURANCE Have a good emotional connection. A desire to have a great body may not be enough to motivate you to workout and push harder. If not, think of a better reason to exercise, and it may be the mind over matter you need. Many people find inspiration from family health history risk factors or through the goal of reversing negative health reports from doctors’ offices. These motivating factors will help you press on and push harder.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Confusion Over Women’s Heart Attack Symptoms ---
Discover The Human Touch In Hearing Technology
DEAR DR. ROACH: My question is about symptoms for women’s heart attacks. I have always heard that symptoms for women can be much different from men’s. Instead of the chestclutching, sharp pain that men can have, I have read that women’s symptoms can be any of these: heartburn or indigestion; pain in the jaw, neck, shoulders, back, one or both arms; fatigue and troubled sleep; dizziness and nausea; or extreme anxiety. Are you KIDDING me? I am a healthy, active 63-year-old woman. I have had all of these symptoms at one time or another. If I acted every time I had one of these symptoms, I would be at the doctor’s office every day. How is one to know which symptoms to take seriously and act on immediately, and which to wait a few days to see if it is temporary? -- J. ANSWER: I have seen many letters similar to yours. The confusing problem is that it’s true: In women, heart attack symptoms and the symptoms of angina before a heart attack can include all of those vague symptoms. The same is true of men as well, although it’s more likely for women than for men to have symptoms other than the classic left-sided chest discomfort (people are much more likely to describe angina as “discomfort” or “pressure” than “pain”). So your question is entirely valid: How do you know when to take common symptoms seriously? The first thing I would say is that the greater your risk for heart disease, the more seriously you should take any symptom. Age, family history of heart disease, high blood pressure and cholesterol, lack of regular physical exercise and diabetes are among the most important risk factors. The second thing I would say is to take new symptoms seriously. If you never get heartburn, for example, then heartburn at age 63 should prompt concern. Third, context matters. Symptoms such as nausea or jaw pain that occur with exercise -- even carrying a bag of groceries or walking up stairs -- is definitely a reason to talk to your doctor. Most women don’t know that heart disease remains their No. 1 killer, far outstripping breast cancer (or any cancer). Both women and men need to take even vague symptoms seriously, especially if the symptoms are new, exertional or if the person has several risk factors. As a primary-care doctor, I’d rather see my patient for her concerns that symptoms may be heart disease than see her in the ICU with a heart attack.

Need Help Paying for Medicare? The Medicare Savings Programs can help with Medicare costs, like your monthly Part B premiums and sometimes also Part A and Part B coinsurance and deductibles. The Extra Help Program helps pay some of your Medicare Part D drug plan costs. If your gross monthly income is less than $1,581 for an individual or $2,134 for a couple, you may be eligible for one or both of these programs. These figures are based on the 2019 federal poverty limits and are subject to change.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I have diverticulosis. At one time I was told not to eat nuts. I have since read that eating nuts is OK. What is your take? Also, are chia seeds safe? -- E.M. ANSWER: There are two answers to this question. The first comes from clinical research, and a very large trial showed that nut and popcorn consumption tended to protect against diverticulitis and diverticular bleeding. This may be due to the high fiber content, recommended in people with diverticula. So most experts allow their patients with diverticulosis to eat nuts and seeds, including chia seeds. The second is practical experience. If someone has had clinical diverticulitis after eating nuts and seeds, especially if it happens repeatedly, it makes sense not to do so.
If you think you may be eligible, please contact NY Connects at the Livingston County Office for the Aging at 585.243.7520 for more information or to schedule an appointment for assistance with applying.

HOW TO AVOID MUSCLE SORENESS Muscle soreness can affect people from all walks of life. While exercise enthusiasts who work out several times per week may feel like they should be immune to muscle soreness, this potentially painful condition that can adversely affect quality of life can fell even the most ardent fitness fanatic. Those who find themselves routinely battling muscle soreness can employ the following tactics to feel better and enjoy the fruits of their labors in the gym. Listen to your body. Daily exercise can greatly benefit long-term health, but it’s important that men and women listen to their bodies, paying attention to any signs that it might be time for a break. Each person is different, but exercise aficionados who recognize any abnormal signs such as unexplained fatigue or cramps may need to take a day off. Bodies need time to recover after a workout. Get adequate sleep. Getting enough sleep provides recovery time. The National Sleep Foundation recommends that adults between the ages of 18 and 64 years of age get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. The NSF recommends adults 65 and older get between seven and eight hours of sleep per night. Don’t overdo it. Pushing a body too hard increases a person’s risk of injury or illness. Muscles that are overtaxed will very likely begin to feel a type of pain known as delayed onset muscle soreness, or DOMS. The American College of Sports Medicine notes that any type of activity that places unaccustomed loads on muscle may lead to DOMS, but activities such as strength training exercises, walking down hills, jogging, step aerobics, and jumping are known examples of contributors to DOMS. Such activities should not necessarily be avoided, but it’s important that men and women not push themselves to the point of overexertion when performing them. Stay hydrated. Muscle soreness may appear if men and women are not drinking enough water before, during or after their workouts. A dehydrated body’s muscles do not have enough electrolytes, and that can be contributing to the feelings of soreness some exercise enthusiasts feel. Drink lots of water throughout the day, and don’t forget to bring a water bottle along to the gym when working out. Muscle soreness can be painful and difficult to deal with. But the solution to address such soreness is oftentimes very simple.

A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel On Aug. 27, 1967, Brian Epstein, manager of the Beatles, is found dead of an accidental drug overdose in his Sussex, England, home. In 1962, Epstein was hired in a deal that gave him 25 percent of the band’s gross earnings for five years. On Aug. 28, 1917, 10 women suffragists are arrestedas they picket the White House to demand that President Woodrow Wilson support a Constitutional amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. After the jailed women went on a hunger strike and had to be force fed for months, Wilson finally agreed to a suffrage amendment. On Aug. 26, 1939, the first televised Major League baseball game is broadcast. Announcer Red Barber called the game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field in New York. The video coverage was somewhat crude. There were only two stationary camera angles.
Save Energy And Money (NAPS)—Don’t let window replacement become a “pane” in your wallet. There’s a disconnect between saving money on energy with window replacements, according to government agencies. In fact, they found it may take decades to recoup the cash spent on the installation of new, energy-efficient windows. The Problem The assessed value of adding 20 new energyefficient windows in California, for example, may range from $10,220 to $18,580, based on a 2019 building assessors manual listing $511 to $929 for each window. Annual energy savings for the replacement of existing windows in a home are from $27 to $111 for dual-pane windows and $126 to $465 for single-pane windows, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. This means it may take decades to financially justify window replacements based on energy savings alone. An Answer Fortunately, there’s an alternative. Window films offer advanced energy savings and other benefits and can be quickly installed at a fraction of the cost of replacement windows, often with a return on investment in under three years. “Window films professionally installed on structurally sound single- or double-pane windows may reduce energy consumption by as much as 30 percent, while the installation cost may be 91.5 percent less than putting in new windows,” explained Darrell Smith of the nonprofit International Window Film Association. Learn More For further facts and stats about saving money and energy, go to www.iwfa.com. To save money and energy, have window film installed instead of replacement windows.

Puzzle Answers This Week HOW STUDENTS CAN HANDLE THE TRANSITION TO MIDDLE SCHOOL
WORDS HAVING A BALL
A child’s school-aged years are filled with many different lessons and experiences. While in school, kids have the opportunity to broaden their horizons and meet new people. Many students will attend various schools before moving on to college, and therefore they must learn how to adjust to new schools. While many students attend elementary school together for years, students may not know their classmates once they make it to middle school, which tends to boast larger student bodies than elementary schools. That’s because many middle schools’ student bodies are a combination of several elementary schools. Making the transition from elementary school to middle school or junior high can spark anxiety in students, but that does not have to be. The National Education Association says a common element of a successful middle school experience is a smooth and positive transition from elementary school.

Between my “subpar” are kids trying to Mom, Dad and myself, we practice an instrument and have each leased cars from get better at it. Don’t even one dealer for four years. think about complaining I just switched to another about pollution if you own dealer. Is it too much to ask a car yourself. You know that your salesman call you what is pollution? People after you’ve had the car for frivolously complaining a week or so, not only to over a parade. Perhaps thank you for your business you had an unpleasant but also as a courtesy to see experience with a parade, how you like the vehicle? but that doesn’t excuse Maybe I am old-fashioned, immature complaining. I have to give a shout out and many thanks to Jackie Whiting and staff for an amazing summer recreation program! My children have participated in many of the programs offered this summer, as well as enjoying a family membership at the pool! Not only are the costs for each program affordable, but the staff is always so friendly and helpful during their camps! They are great role models for our kids as well! Very proud to live in such a great community that provides awesome activities for the kids in the summer with a very friendly and hands-on staff! Keep up the great work! See you next summer!
with our society, and we shouldn’t waste our time over something that brings the community together. Worst Fast Food Ever! I occasionally go to a fast food restaurant in [local town]. I always go through the drive thru. I would like to point out how consistent they are with their orders...consistently wrong. I have yet to receive a complete correct order. I ordered six items and paid for six items. There were exactly four. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger, and when he got it home it had no meat on it. My coffee was served cold. We’ve ordered and emphasized repeatedly, “no cheese,” only to have said item dripping in cheese. It is so hard to comprehend. Things never used to be this bad. A local fast food place is the worst restaurant in

[local county]. When you go into a place of business, you would think that you would be well taken care of. Not there! Three employees ignored my family as we stood there, waiting several minutes to be served. They were standing around off to the side of the cash register, not acknowledging our existence. Then, one employee looked right at us and turned back to the others without saying anything. That same employee had an extra large drink right in front of the register in full view of the customers. The worst part is this is the third time that we have had an awful experience at this place. It has the most unprofessional employees that I have seen in a long time.

RELIEVE STRESS THROUGHOUT THE DAY Stress affects people from all walks of life, and the causes of stress are as varied as the people it afflicts. In its 2017 Stress in AmericaTM survey, the American Psychological Association found that the three most common sources of stress were the future of the nation (63 percent), money (62 percent) and work (61 percent). According to the National Institute of Mental Health, routine stress that becomes chronic can result in a host of negative side effects. Such stress can suppress the immune system, disrupt digestion and have an adverse effect on sleep. But men and women who feel stressed at the end of each day need not resign themselves to sleepless nights and/or weakened immune systems. A proactive approach to alleviating stress during the day can help men and women reduce their stress levels and avoid the negative side effects associated with chronic stress. Career minded individuals wanted! Are you looking for a position that provides remarkable benefits, a promising retirement and competitive starting wages with the opportunity for development and growth in your career?
