Dansville’s Tractor Pull for a Cure a Success in Dansville By Amanda Dudek
O
n Sunday, September 1st, the Lawn Dart Pulling Team celebrated Labor Day Weekend by holding their 2nd Annual Tractor Pull for a Cure in Ossian, just outside of Dansville. The fundraiser featured multiple classes of tractors from 12HP stock garden tractors, to 850HP mini rod tractors, to a special pull for four wheelers, all of them "pulling for a cure in memory of those who have lost their fight and in honor of all those still fighting." All proceeds benefit Wilmot Cancer Center.
Active Living 50+ ____________________30 Arts & Entertainment ____________________25 Auctions & Antiques ____________________12
The first Tractor Pull for a Cure event took place as part of a pull three years ago. It was a success, raising over $3,000. So, the Lawn Dart Pulling Team held an event last year on member Tom Bellanca's property, establishing the 1st Annual Tractor Pull for a Cure. "We realized that people were paying quite a bit for admission on top of donating," said Bellanca. "So, we decided to have the event at my place and keep our prices low so that the whole family could come and enjoy." The team lowered the ticket price to only $5, with children 12 and under welcomed free of charge.

"Last year, we raised over $5,000," said Bellanca. "This year, while we still have some donations to count, we have already raised over $6,000, putting us over $14,000 raised over three years." The event also includes a basket raffle, a 50/50 drawing and food tent selling hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and cold drinks, with food donated by Wilson Beef Farms.

For many involved, the cause is personal. "I lost my fiancé to cancer in 2014," shared Bellanca. "She was 34." He and the Lawn Dart Pulling Team credit the community, including family, friends and businesses, with turning their event into such a success. "We have so many people to thank for making this happen, we would probably fill every page in the Penny Saver if we tried!" Bellanca exclaimed.

thanks to several event sponsors: NY Decal n Lettering, 93.9 WDNY, O'Brien Septic & Portable Toilets, Wilson Beef Farms, Tackbary's Trophies, the Duke Company, the Livingston County Pizza Company and Bakery and GJ RV Repair. The team would also like to thank Eagle Garden Tractor Puller Association for donating the sled and generously contributing the pullers' hook fees to the cause, the Gray family, fellow pullers Scott Cooper's family and the Van Valkenburg family, including Paul, Stephanie and Kaitlyn, for each raising over $1,000. "Everybody comes together to make this happen," explained Bellanca. "There are so many people who help, and many of them think, "I am only able to give $10 or $20." Over 517 people came through our gate last Sunday. It all adds up." Everything for the event is donated, so all of funds raised go directly to Wilmot. "We pullers pull together all summer long, and this is our way of giving back," said Bellanca. "We feel able to do what we do because it touches so many lives."

Is That Special Diet Killing Your Dog? DEAR PAW’S CORNER: The trend in pet owners feeding their dogs grain-free diet may have had some unintended consequences. There’s an epidemic of DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) in dogs across the U.S., one that in many cases may be caused by a deficiency in taurine. The Food and Drug Administration and several veterinary organizations are working to increase the public’s knowledge about the problem. Please let your readers know about this issue so that they can make sure what they’re feeding their dogs contains the right nutrients to keep their dogs healthy. — Liz D., via email DEAR LIZ: Thank you for raising awareness about this issue. As dedicated owners search for the best diets to feed their dogs, they are increasingly feeding them “exotic” diets (kangaroo meat and chickpeas, cited in a 2018 Tufts report) or buying dog foods labeled as grain-free. At issue is that some trendy diets, and unfortunately some retail dog foods, lack taurine, an ingredient in meat that is essential to maintaining a healthy heart in dogs. Taurine deficiency alone is not the only cause behind the rise in DCM, which is being seen in dog breeds where it was previously rare. Researchers are working to find additional causes of DCM, and in the meantime recommend that pet owners closely evaluate their pets’ diet. Commercial dog foods should have a good track record of nutritional quality and safety. Home-prepared diets should be supplemented with important nutrients; talk to your vet for exact details. Owners should also keep an eye on their dogs for early signs of heart disease: coughing, weakness, less ability to exercise, shortness of breath or fainting. Take a dog with these symptoms straight to the vet. Send your questions or pet care tips to ask@pawscorner.com. © 2019 King Features Synd., Inc.

HOBBIES FOR DIFFERENT PERSONALITY TYPES Athletes can pursue a host of potential hobbies or activities that will foster their love of sports. Men and women who still have a hop in their step can sign up to compete in adult sports leagues. Depending on the sport, leagues might be available to adults of various ages and skill levels, and some may even be more focused on fun than competition. For athletes who can no longer lace up their cleats, coaching youth sports or volunteering to coach at a nearby school provides a chance to stay involved even if competing is no longer possible.
WAYLAND AMERICAN LEGION 102 N. MAIN ST. • WAYLAND DINING OUT WITH CHILDREN Active children can learn table manners and restaurant behavior early on through practice. These lessons can open children up to new food experiences and help them grow accustomed to social settings. Do not set your child up to fail by selecting a restaurant that is too fancy or quiet. Save those restaurants for when your company is adults only. A place that is used to noise (and moderate mess) is better.
$
Bring along some games, toys and other trinkets to keep their attention. Try playing games, such as counting the packets of sugar or finding people wearing red shirts.
5
Avoid dining out with a tired child, and be prompt in selecting meals and eating. This is not a time to linger, as youngsters’ attention spans and willingness to sit still tend to be minimal. Be prepared to leave with a to-go box if a child proves unruly.

COMMON GRILLING MISTAKES Improper seasoning: Basting food with sugar-laden sauces and marinades too early can cause flare-ups and burning. Quick rubs can help lock in flavor, and then reserve the sauce for the last few minutes of grilling, says cookbook author Dave Martin.

DID YOU KNOW?
FOR SALE BY OWNER
Prospective real estate investors who hope to buy, hold and rent out their investment properties should first interview potential property managers before buying homes. While it’s possible to find property managers willing to manage single-family homes or duplexes, the financial resource Bankrate.com notes that many property managers prefer to manage large apartment complexes instead. Managing properties is hard work, and without skilled property managers on their side, real estate investors may become overwhelmed by the responsibilities of taking care of their real estate investments while simultaneously trying to maintain their own residences. Before buying investment properties, prospective real estate investors should interview various local property managers or property management firms, inquiring about their fees and what is included in those fees. If the cost of hiring property managers drastically cuts into the profits investors hoped to make off their investment properties, they might be better off looking to invest their money in areas other than real estate. Prospective investors can compare the potential return on investment after the cost of property managers has been factored in to the return they might get from more traditional investments to determine if investing in real estate is a sound financial decision.

Gift Auctions Can Successfully Raise Funds In an effort to add some creativity to traditional fundraisers, many charitable groups have begun to rely on gift auctions. Gift auctions, sometimes referred to as a “tricky tray,” ask participants to silently bid on various prizes. Each prize is put on display and participants go around and place pre-purchased raffle tickets into bowls or bags beside the prizes. After bidding has concluded, an emcee will select a winning ticket from each collection of entries and read out the winner’s name or ticket number. Depending on how many prizes are available, gift auctions provide hours of fun.
Upcycling: Transforming the ‘Old’ into a Better ‘New’ Turn old or discarded furniture, cabinets and doors into fresh new creations through “upcycling” -- high-end “recycling” that reduces trash at landfills by refurbishing or repurposing existing pieces, often enhancing the value. Furniture or “yard sale finds”: These can be stabilized and given a new look through stain/paint or distressing, but some may also lend themselves to transformation for other uses, such as turning a chest of drawers into bookshelves, a chair into a swing, a dresser into a seat, and more.

Leaving An Estate To Charity One doesn’t have to be a famous movie producer or sports star to donate assets to charity in wills. Individuals sometimes make the choice to leave a portion of their estate to a favorite charity to create a legacy that helps the unfortunate. Such a decision may surprise family members, so it may be wise to discuss plans when drafting wills and ensuring that the correct method of bequeathing estates to charities is followed. When a will is written, it is typically in a person’s best interest to consult with an estate-planning attorney prior to making any decisions. When working in conjunction with a financial planner, an attorney can help you grow your estate and ensure your assets will be distributed according to your wishes.
May, June and July consistently rank among the most popular months to get married. These months typically provide pleasant weather, and if it does rain, it’s often in the form of a brief thunderstorm.
Summer is prime vacation season when travelers take trips to every corner of the world. While faraway destinations abound, those looking for fun can also find enjoyable activities much closer to home.

NOW HERE’S A TIP By JoAnn Derson “My daughter is a softball player, and here’s what her coach suggested as an ice pack for when she gets home: unpopped popcorn kernels. They get cold but not uncomfortably so, they can easily mold to any body part and they don’t melt into a mess. If you needed to, you can empty them out into a pan and stick your hand or foot into it. Be sure to label them so you don’t try to pop them later!” -- L.D. in Georgia

Choosing Carpeting Today, there are m any different types of carpeting available. The follow ing guidelines can m ake carpet shopping a bit easier. Type of carpeting There are m any different types of carpeting, som e of w hich are best suited to certain situations. For exam ple, plush and saxony carpets are better in low -traffic areas. These carpets m ay show footprints and also vacuum tracks and dirt, but they’re higher on the com fort spectrum than other types of carpet. Berber, w hich is m ore flat and dense, helps m ask stains and tracks. It is durable in high-traffic areas. Textured carpets like frieze are cut from fibers of different heights, so they m ask stains and are also softer on the feet than berber. Padding It isn’t alw ays necessary to purchase the m ost expensive or thickest padding. How ever, it is w ise to pick a pad that m atches the type of carpeting you’re selecting and one that aligns w ith how you plan to use the room . You m ay be able to go w ith a thinner pad in low -traffic room s and beneath dense carpeting like berber. In high-traffic room s, choose a thicker, m ore durable padding. Padding prevents carpet backing and fibers from com ing apart over tim e. It pays to invest in a padding that w ill last as w ell. Installation Select a reliable carpet retailer and installer for your business. Com petent installers w ill lay the carpeting in the correct m anner so that it w ill look beautiful and m aintain its durability for the life of the product. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

TAKE A COURSE IN DORM SAFETY
All workshops will be held at the Atlanta Court Facility.
College students have a few different living options at their disposal, but many opt for dormitory living, as it is one of the more convenient and popular boarding options, particularly for out-of-town students. Thousands of post-secondary students pack up their belongings and move away from home in the pursuit of an education, and parents want to do what they can to ensure their college-aged kids are safe.
All meetings are open to the public, any interested parties are invited to attend.
For many students, college represents the first time they will live anywhere other than the homes they grew up in. Dorm life can be an exciting adventure, but it can also be one that may open new college students up to inherently risky situations.
Martha R. Hall Cohocton Town Clerk 9/3/2019
While students should look forward to fun and excitement at school, it’s also important for them to be prepared for what lies ahead at college and in dorm life - and to take the proper safety precautions. Use common sense and trust your instincts with regard to dorm safety. Make college memories good ones by emphasizing caution.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF AVOCADOS Avocados can benefit vision. Avocados contain lutein and zeaxanthin, a pair phytochemicals concentrated in the tissues in the eyes. Lutein and zeaxanthin are believed to block blue light from reaching structures in the retina, thereby reducing a person’s risk of developing macular degeneration. In fact, studies published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, the American Journal of Ophthalmology and The Archives of Ophthalmology found that diets high in lutein and zeaxanthin are associated with a lower risk of macular degeneration, which the American Macular Degeneration Foundation notes is the leading cause of vision loss in the United States. INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY IMPROVES PATIENT EXPERIENCE FOR WOMEN UNDERGOING BREAST CANCER TREATMENT (NAPSI)—A mother, a sister, a friend…many of us know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, the most common cancer among women, affecting an astonishing one in eight women in the United States. Thanks to technological advances in detection and new treatment approaches, women diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer can opt to keep their breast with less invasive surgery and with breastconserving treatments. In fact, the American Cancer Society estimates that 59 percent of women with an early breast cancer diagnosis (Stage 1 or 2) undergo breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy) versus 36 percent of women who decide to have a total mastectomy. Research has shown that breast-conserving surgery followed by radiation therapy is as effective as a mastectomy in decreasing the risk of local cancer recurrence for most women*. “One way that breast-conserving surgery is now easier is due to a new innovation in breast cancer treatment—SAVI SCOUT® Radar Localization. This resolves one of the most difficult aspects of breast conservation surgery by eliminating the need to place a wire inside of the breast tissue to locate a tumor,” said Dr. Barry Rosen, Chairman of Department of Surgery at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago; and Assistant Professor, University of Illinois College of Medicine. “Many of my patients who have undergone a procedure with SCOUT® are impressed with the benefits, including shorter procedure times and decreased anxiety.” Prior to 2015, surgeons generally relied on wire localization to locate a tumor during a lumpectomy procedure. With wire localization, a radiologist guides a thin, hooked wire through the skin and into the tumor on the day of surgery. The surgeon then uses the wire to identify the area of tissue targeted for removal. This resulted in long days of surgery for women, with two procedures performed on the same day. With SCOUT, a tiny reflector, the size of a grain of rice, is placed at the tumor site at any time during the patient’s treatment and well in advance of surgery. The SCOUT Wire-Free Radar Breast Localization System uses safe, nonradioactive, radar technology to provide real-time and precise surgical guidance during the surgery. The ability to precisely locate tumors increases the probability of complete cancer removal and reduces the likelihood of needing follow-up surgery, allowing any additional treatments to occur sooner. In addition, the ability to strategically plan the incision may result in better cosmetic outcomes. SCOUT is also used to effectively localize lymph nodes and tumors prior to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (chemotherapy administered prior to surgery) and can be used with any type of imaging over the course of a patient’s care. More than 350 hospitals have implemented the SCOUT System, and to date, over 45,000 women have had a wire-free localization experience. Better to Sleep on Left Side or Right?

DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a man in my late 50s. I now am told to

sleep on my right side and not my left side, because it’s better for the heart. However, my sinuses seem to open up and it’s easier to breathe lying on my left side. What, if anything, will happen if I sleep on my left side? Can it damage the heart permanently or lead to an early death? -- M.N. ANSWER: Most people can sleep in whatever position they find comfortable without any problem. However, there are a few instances in which sleeping on the left side may potentially cause problems. One is in people with untreated obstructive sleep apnea, in which several studies have shown that sleeping on the left side leads to slightly more breathing problems than sleeping on the right. However, in people who are treated, that should not be a problem. Pregnant women should sleep on their side. Although women have often been recommended to sleep on their left side, either side is fine for the baby. Left-sided sleeping may reduce swelling in the feet. People with known severe congestive heart failure or coronary artery disease and who habitually sleep on the left side have a small increase in death compared with back or right-side sleepers. However, my opinion is that the benefit is so small that comfort and quality of sleep is more important.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I have read that many runners drink too much water and that this can be dangerous. What are the signs of drinking too much? -- H.C. ANSWER: Exercise-associated hyponatremia (“hypo” means “too little,” and “natremia” means “sodium in the blood”) is common for endurance athletes, such as long-distance triathletes and marathoners. It is caused by losing salt and water, mostly through sweat, and replacing it with only water. Most cases are mild and have few symptoms, but if there are symptoms, they are most commonly weakness, headache and dizziness. Severe cases cause disorientation and can lead to seizures and death. In a study of the Boston Marathon in 2002, 13% of finishers had hyponatremia, but only 1% had critical levels. To avoid hyponatremia, you need to ignore the advice to “drink as much as possible” during exercise. Further, most sports drinks do not have enough sodium to protect against hyponatremia. As simple as the advice is, drinking when you are thirsty when you exercise is the best way of preventing hyponatremia while still preventing volume depletion or dehydration.

DEAR DR. ROACH: You wrote last year about cod liver oil as a source of vitamin D and omega-3. Can you recommend a brand? -- M.E.T. ANSWER: I don’t like to recommend specific brands unless there are scientific studies showing a difference between brands, which I can’t find with cod liver oil. However, I would look for a brand that is labeled “certified USP,” meaning it is tested for contaminants, and one that has a low vitamin A level (below 10,000 IU daily). You also might want one with high (450 mg or greater) EPA plus DPA (the most commonly recommended omega-3 fats). *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. The number of people who smoke is on the decline, as a 2018 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention noted that the percentage of adults in the United States who smoke cigarettes declined from roughly 21 percent in 2005 to 15.5 percent in 2016. That decline has no doubt helped reduce overall cancer death rates, though the figures regarding smoking-related deaths are still staggering. According to the CDC, smoking accounts for more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. The 2018 report from the CDC indicates that men (17.5 percent) are more likely than women (13.5 percent) to smoke cigarettes. In addition, the report notes a correlation between education and the likelihood of smoking cigarettes. While smoking was lowest among people who had graduate degrees, with only five out of every 100 such adults being smokers, smoking rates were highest (40.6 percent) among adults with graduate education degree certificates, or GEDs. While people who had no high school diploma were less likely to smoke cigarettes than GED recipients, the CDC report found that smoking rates declined the more education people received.

HOROSCOPE ARIES (March 21 to April 19) It might not be wise to pursue goals involving others, unless you can stop impulsively rejecting new ideas. Either open your mind or wait until next week, when this “ornery” mood passes. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) It’s a good time for the Bovine to be creative and practical for yourself and your surroundings. Shop wisely, not impulsively, and keep your Bull’s eye focused on quality, not quantity. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You should feel more confident about moving ahead with plans that had to be delayed by an unexpected turn of events. Also, family matters might need more time than first anticipated. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Be considerate of others as you move into a new area in your professional life. Take time to meet people and discuss mutual goals. The more you get to know each other, the better. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Creating a fuss could get your ideas noticed quickly. But it would be best to present your case, and then wait for a reaction to follow in due course, rather than try to force it to happen. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Unkept promises might cause plans to go awry this week. You can either grumble about people “letting you down” or find a way to make the best of it and move on. The choice is yours. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Putting off making a commitment early in the week could be a good move. Best to act when you know you’re making an informed decision. Expect more facts to emerge by the week’s end. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A recent act of kindness on your part could take on special meaning this week. Also, look for signs of upcoming changes in both your personal and professional relationships. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Many of the tougher communication barriers between you and others in the workplace or at home could begin breaking down this week. Expect some surprises to emerge. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Your “tough love” attitude toward someone you care for could be misunderstood. Try to be less judgmental and show more consideration in the way you relate to that person. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) An unexpected workplace challenge could be daunting. But take what you know (and you know more than you realize) and apply it to the problem, and you should see positive results. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Recent relationship changes for both single and paired Pisces continue to influence much of your week. Keep your focus on developing the positive aspects as you move along. BORN THIS WEEK: You set your goals with assurance and influence others to follow suit. You would be an excellent philosopher and teacher. (c) 2019 King Features Synd., Inc.

How To Avoid Growing Bored In Retirement • Embrace a new hobby. Whether it’s perfecting your golf game, writing that novel, learning to cook like a gourmet chef or whatever else you might have always wanted to do, retirement is a great time to do it. • Volunteer. If a part-time job is not up your alley, then consider volunteering in your community. Volunteers are always in demand, and volunteering with a local charity can provide a sense of purpose and provide opportunities to meet likeminded fellow retirees, all while helping to quell your boredom.

A Look Back… MOMENTS IN TIME The History Channel * On Sept. 12, 1940, a collection of prehistoric cave paintings is discovered near Montignac, France. They depict 600 painted and drawn animals and symbols and nearly 1,500 engravings from the Upper Paleolithic period some 16,000 years ago.
The facts about glaucoma When one’s vision is compromised, his or her whole life can change in the blink of an eye. Many conditions can affect a person’s vision, and one of the more common is glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness across the globe. The global impact of glaucoma is significant. The World Health Organization estimates that 4.5 million people are blind due to glaucoma. In addition, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness notes that some estimates have suggested that there will be approximately 80 million people with glaucoma by 2020. If such estimates prove true, that would mean an additional 20 million cases of glaucoma were diagnosed between 2010 and 2020. Vision loss is often associated with glaucoma. However, the National Eye Institute notes that early detection and treatment can protect the eyes against serious vision loss. That makes it imperative that individuals from all walks of life learn about glaucoma, its risk factors and how to recognize it. What is glaucoma? Glaucoma is a term used to describe a group of diseases that damage the eye’s optic nerve. When such damage occurs, vision loss and even blindness can result. What is the optic nerve and why does it matter? The NEI notes that the optic nerve is a bundle of more than one million nerve fibers that connects the retina to the brain. The retina is the lightsensitive tissue at the back of the eye that contains cells which are sensitive to light. These cells trigger nerve impulses that pass via the optic nerve to the brain, where visual images are then formed. Because its role is so significant, the optic nerve must be healthy for good vision. What are the most common types of glaucoma? According to the IAPB, primary open angle glaucoma, or POAG, and primary angle closure glaucoma, or PACG, are the most common types of the condition. POAG is most common in white Caucasians and black individuals of African origin, while PACG, which is associated with a greater risk of blindness than POAG, is most common in people from southeast Asia. The Glaucoma Research Foundation says that POAG develops slowly and is the most common form of glaucoma and is caused by the slow clogging of the drainage canals that produces increased pressure on the eye. PACG, which the GRF notes is quick to develop, results when the drainage canals are blocked, resulting in a sudden rise in intraocular pressure. What are the symptoms of glaucoma? Because POAG develops slowly, its symptoms often go unnoticed. Symptoms of PACG, however, are often very noticeable and may include severe and sudden eye pain; blurred vision; bright halos appearing around objects; eye redness, tenderness, and hardness; and nausea and vomiting. Can glaucoma be treated? While there is no cure for glaucoma and vision lost to it cannot be restored, the NEI notes that treatment for early-stage POAG can effectively delay progression of the disease. * On Sept. 13, 1971, the four-day revolt ends at the maximum-security Attica Correctional Facility in New York when hundreds of state police storm the complex in a hail of gunfire. Thirty-nine people were killed in the disastrous assault. * On Sept. 14, 1982, Princess Grace of Monaco -- the former American movie star Grace Kelly -- dies at age 52 after her car plunged off a mountain road near Monte Carlo. Simplify vacations and savor the fun Use a travel agent. Using a travel agent to plan your vacation can remove any stress and anxiety you may feel when planning a trip and juggling the responsibilities of everyday life. Many people choose to book their own trips as a cost-cutting measure. What they don’t realize is that travel agents may be privy to special deals and perks they can pass on to customers. These agents also know the ins and outs of certain resorts and locales. Leaving the legwork in their accomplished hands means all you have to do is show up with your reservations instead of pouring over the minutiae of planning.

you! Thanks, also, to Avon Interfaith for the donation. We were able to have the Zoo-mobile visit us on the last day. What a joy for the children! Avon Ecumenical VBS
A giant thank you to Steve Clarke (and the entire Clarke family) in Groveland Station for helping Jim and me with our emergencies. You are wonderful neighbors, and we can’t thank you enough.
A couple of weeks ago, a grandmother and her three granddaughters each made a couple of batches of cookies. They packaged them, set up little stands in their neighborhoods in different areas of Avon and sold the cookies. They received over $250 that they then took to a grocery store to buy food for the Avon Food Pantry. They brought the groceries
Sassy’s story in the August 23rd edition of Pet Pal touched my heart more than any other I have read. I hope that Sassy and her Mom are together for many more years to come. Her picture is especially heartwarming. She looks like such a sweet girl.
At our VBS program this summer, we had many teens working with us. Thanks to Addison, Bronwyn, Carolyn, Colin, Connor, Hannah, Katherine, Michael, Reese and Thomas for all your help. We couldn’t have done it without all of
While at a local restaurant and inn, having eaten our food, we left our payment in the bill holders and left. Someone stole the money we left for one of our bills (We had 3 separate checks.) That money had to be replaced by the young waitress we had. It came out of her pocket. The person who took the money had no conscience. Needless to say, I will never leave until the money gets to the waitress from now on. So, everyone, please make sure your payment gets to the waitress, including any tip. It is not fair that they lose money because someone else is a thief!
they are a schoolteacher with the summer off, or maybe they are a farmer? The heat can be hard on individual’s midday. Maybe they have a health condition or are trying to avoid heat stroke. I would rather my neighbor mow nightly between 5-8pm maintaining their yard instead of letting their yard turn into a tick paradise. Maybe you could offer to help you neighbor, or you could move to a city or town. True country folk would not bat an eye at this. Be a kind person and talk to your neighbor to learn their story. Good luck.
I live in the country, and I do not see a problem with my neighbors mowing nightly between 5-8pm. Have you talked to your neighbor? Do you know for a fact that they do not work during the day? Maybe

Why doesn’t the [local town] start fining a local business owner for all the junk cars he has at three of his businesses? It makes the town look bad. The fire department has warned him numerous times about cars blocking the entrance to his yard in

to the pantry and put them on the pantry shelves to help people in need. What a great learning experience. Many life skills were learned, ending with the good feeling of helping others in the community. A great big thank you from the Avon Food Pantry to that giving family! The Habitat construction crew was nourished again with an amazing lunch brought to the worksite by the Avon Lioness Group. Thank you!
case of fire. All these junk cars attract rats and mice. Maybe if fines were imposed, he would clean up his mess. Make him get rid of this junk at all three businesses!
I am an elderly woman who has lived in several places across the country. I have always appreciated the work that [business] does. Through the years, my family, friends and I have made donations of clothing and household furnishings. We have always been impressed by the friendliness, courtesy and assistance the staff have given us. In most places, the staff members come right out and cheerfully offer to help to unload the car. I am downsizing and have started my donations. Recently I parked near the entrance to the Donation Center, went in and asked for assistance. I was ignored at first, then told, “We can’t leave

the front door. If we do, we get yelled at.” I was grudgingly given a cart. I am concerned about the heavier items I will be bringing soon. I now feel that my donations are unwanted. Please keep your mess out of the street when mowing your yard. Not only is it unsightly, but it can also be hazardous. Last year, my husband ran over grass in the road, and unfortunately, a bolt from the mower was in the debris and punctured his tire. The tire deflated quickly. This could have caused a blowout which could have ended badly. It’s your grass; keep it in your own yard.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OFFICE MORE ECO-FRIENDLY Develop telecommuting policies. In analyzing data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2005-2014 American Community Survey, GlobalWorkplaceAnalytics.com found the population of regular work-at-home non-self-employed persons grew by 103 percent between 2005 and 2014. Working from home is often seen as employee-friendly, but it also can benefit employers and the environment. When employees work from home, their employers need not purchase or lease as much office space, saving them substantial amounts of money. In addition, working from home cuts down on the number of commuters driving to work, decreasing fuel consumption and vehicle emissions. Employers who cannot allow employees to work from home full-time can still help the environment and their employees by allowing workers to work from home one or two days a week.
