SIMPLIFY COOKING FOR A CROWD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON Prepare a familiar dish. Hosts may agonize over their holiday menus, and some may feel compelled to prepare a family specialty or the same dishes their parents or grandparents prepared for holiday dinners when they were children. But holiday hosts can make things easy on themselves by choosing dishes they’ve made in the past, regardless of their place in family history. Chances are the ingredients for hosts’ own specialties are already in the pantry, saving a potentially time-consuming trip to the grocery store. And thanks to the familiarity factor, hosts’ own specialties likely won’t require as much time to prepare.

HOROSCOPE ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Careful, Lamb. Don’t let your generous nature lead to some serious overspending as you contemplate your holiday gift-giving. Your social life kicks off into high gear by week’s end. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) A positive attitude helps you weather annoying but unavoidable changes in holiday plans. Aspects favor new friendships and reinforcement of existing relationships. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Demands on your energy level could be much higher than usual as you prepare for the upcoming holidays. Be sure to pace yourself. Friends and family will be happy to help. CANCER ( June 21 to July 22) Don’t allow a suddenly icy reaction from a friend or family member to continue without learning what caused it -- and what can be done to restore that once warm and caring relationship. LEO ( July 23 to August 22) A relationship seems to be unraveling, mostly from a lack of attention. It might be a good idea to ease up on whatever else you’re doing so you can spend more time working to mend it. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) New facts emerge that not only help explain the recent rift with a trusted colleague, but also might provide a chance to wipe the slate clean and make a fresh start in your friendship. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A family member’s personal situation is, fortunately, resolved in time for you to get back into your hectic round of holiday preparations. An old friend might bring a new friend into your life. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Pace yourself in meeting holiday pressures and workplace demands to avoid winding up with a frayed temper and a Scorpian stinger that lashes out at puzzled kith, kin and colleagues. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) A financial matter requires close attention. Also, news from a trusted source provides the means to help sort out a long-standing state of confusion and put it into perspective. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) This is a good time to reinforce family ties. Make it a priority to assess and resolve all outstanding problems. Start the upcoming holiday season with a full measure of love. AQUARIUS ( January 20 to February 18) Don’t be pressured into a so-called solid-gold investment. Wait until the holiday distractions are over. Then take a harder look at it. You might find that the “gold” is starting to flake off. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A former friend might be trying to heal the breach between you by using a mutual friend as an intermediary. Best advice: Keep an open mind despite any lingering bad feelings. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a way of saying the right thing at the right time. Your friendships are deep and lasting. TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.

Leg Swelling Likely Not Due to Alcohol --DEAR DR. ROACH: What effect, if any, does alcohol consumption have on swelling in the legs, ankles and feet? I drink only when I go out for dinner or have guests, typically a cocktail and a glass of wine; no swelling in those instances. However, I noticed that after a few days on vacation, when I drank more than two glasses of wine every night, my lower legs, ankles and feet began to swell. Once I returned home and resumed no daily alcohol consumption, the swelling abated. So, is there a connection? -- B.A. ANSWER: The physiology of alcohol is complex, with potentially adverse effects on the heart, the liver and on secretion of anti-diuretic hormone. All of these can affect swelling. However, it is entirely possible, and probably more likely, that it is a combination of travel and increased sodium intake that is responsible for your most recent swelling. Even in healthy young volunteers, alcohol immediately reduces the ability of the heart to squeeze out blood. Usually the heart returns to normal after the alcohol is metabolized, but in some people, the heart dilates over time, resulting in heart failure (swelling in the feet has many causes, but heart failure is one of the biggest concerns). In the liver, longstanding alcohol use affects the liver’s ability to synthesize proteins. Reduced levels of the blood protein albumin also might cause leg swelling. Both heart and liver effects are very mild except in people who already have disease of these organs. The role of vasopressin, also called anti-diuretic hormone, is complex. Initial inhibition of ADH leads to an increase in urine production, then an increased level of the hormone, which can lead to water and salt retention and swelling. Even though there are at least three ways alcohol can lead to or worsen edema, it is likely that it’s simply swelling from sitting and standing too much, which commonly occurs in travel, combined with a greater sodium intake from eating out at restaurants. Sodium content at many restaurants is much higher than if you prepare your own food.

REDUCE YOUR RISK OF STROKE

*** DEAR DR. ROACH: I’ve been dealing with a problem for a very long time. I’d like to have someone tell me how to stop my eyes from tearing and my nose from running every time I go out in the cold weather. I’ve been given pills (Claritin and Benadryl) and sprays (Nasacort, Beconase), and although they help me breathe better, I still fill up with tears and mucus. I’d like to know if you’ve ever run across these symptoms. -- S.R.M. ANSWER: These symptoms are not only common, they are nearly universal. One of the body’s protections against cold weather is to increase fluid flow to the eyes and nose, as the cold, dry air evaporates their protective moisture. Almost everybody has had the experience of a runny nose after being out in the cold, especially when first coming into a warm room. In some people, the normal response is so strong that it becomes very annoying. It’s a type of nonallergic vasomotor rhinitis. I have had frequent success in prescribing nasal antihistamines, such as azelastine, or an anticholinergic drug like ipratropium, if the treatments you have tried haven’t worked.

(NAPSI)—An estimated 2.7 million Americans are living with a condition that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Fortunately, a leading health organization is working to help these individuals reduce their risk of developing such dangerous conditions.

“If you suspect you have AFib, meet with your doctor. AFib can be managed, helping you avoid stroke and live a longer, healthier life,” adds Ellinor.

Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is defined as a quivering or irregular heartbeat. Often, strokes that occur for no known cause can be linked to AFib, which a person may not even be aware they have. The American Heart Association (AHA)—the world’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives—wants all people living with AFib to understand how they can reduce their risk of cardiac complications. “AFib can have symptoms such as an irregular-feeling heartbeat, shortness of breath and light-headedness or it can have no symptoms at all. Even if you are not experiencing symptoms of AFib, your stroke risk is still increased five-fold,” says Patrick Ellinor, M.D., Ph.D., cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Health care providers score a patient’s risk of a stroke caused by AFib by taking into account such factors as age, sex, and pre-existing conditions including hypertension, diabetes, vascular disease, and prior stroke or ischemic attack.

The AHA offers a free online community for those diagnosed with AFib, My Afib Experience. The initiative was made possible by an educational grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer Alliance. To learn more, visit www.heart.org/afibawareness.

GIFT-WRAPPING TIPS AND TRICKS

HOW TO MANAGE HOLIDAY SHOPPING TRIPS WITH TOTS IN TOW

Keep supplies at the ready Devote a bin or bins to wrapping supplies and tools. Having scissors, paper, tape, ribbon, and more in a designated spot will cut down on having to hunt and peck when it comes time to wrap. Martha Stewart suggests getting a rotary cutter to cut long straight or decorative edges on wrapping paper. Rotary cutters may be easier to use than scissors, especially when paired with a ruler.

Holiday shopping has changed considerably since the dawn of the Information Age. Whereas holiday shopping once required shoppers to spend hours perusing stores at the local mall, nowadays many shoppers get the bulk of their shopping done online. Shopping online may be convenient, but more traditional holiday shopping still affords shoppers the chance to find great deals, especially at the last minute. Parents may prefer to leave the kids at home when holiday shopping, but sometimes they don’t have a choice. Fortunately, there are ways to manage holiday shopping trips with kids in tow.

UPGRADE ATTIC INSULATION TO SAVE ON ENERGY EXPENSES (NAPSI)—One of the most cost-effective ways to make your home more comfortable year-round is to add insulation to your attic, including the attic trap or access door. By sealing uncontrolled air leaks, points out the U.S. Department of Energy, you can save 10 percent to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills. Fortunately, this can be a relatively easy task. Why Improve Your Insulation An improperly insulated attic can be a preventable source of energy loss and unnecessary expense. Over time, insulation can settle or compact, which reduces its R-value. An insulating material’s resistance to conductive heat flow is measured or rated in terms of its thermal resistance or R-value— the higher the R-value, the greater the insulating effectiveness. A breezy attic may also result in drifts or shifts in your original insulation, leaving gaps where heat can escape. By topping up your attic insulation, you’ll increase the thermal level, reducing your overall energy usage and saving you money.

www.cedarstreetonline.com

MASONRY & BASEMENT

How To Do It A simple way to do this is to topup the existing insulation in your attic. This is one project that homeowners can often tackle for themselves. Look for timesaving, easy-to-install products, such as stone wool batts, that are easy to work with and don’t require costly blower rentals, protective clothing or an investment in expensive equipment. You can easily add Rockwool ComfortBatt insulation on top of most existing insulation to increase R-value in an attic without having to do any remediation or removal first. The batts will remain stable and won’t shift after they are put in place, ensuring upgraded thermal protection. They’re also: • Easily cut • Noncombustible • Excellent for sound absorbency • Not likely to rot or promote growth of fungi or mildew • Water and moisture resistant. To apply the insulation, simply begin in one corner of the attic, open the bag and place the stone wool batts as needed to get a consistent layer throughout the attic. Make sure to cover spaces around ducts, wiring and piping, converting these awkward spaces into energy-saving areas. One of the advantages of stone wool batts is their compatibility with other insulation types, eliminating any need to remove existing product. Learn More: For further facts and tips on insulation, go to www.rockwool.com/products/comfortbatt.

Great gifts for beloved seniors By the time they reach senior status, many adults have amassed a ton of stuff along with their irreplaceable knowledge. Come their golden years, grandparents and other aging loved ones probably don’t need much in the way of material possessions, which can make it challenging to find them holiday gifts. Finding great gifts for seniors may take a little more effort, but with these ideas at the ready, it’s likely gift-givers can make this holiday merry for everyone on their shopping lists. Family photo memories Many seniors love to talk about their life histories. What better way to be the catalyst for conversation than to create a photo album that chronicles their lives? Photos can be included alongside historical documents, such as old school projects, military discharge papers, awards, and even genealogical information. Photo puzzles, photo calendars and any home decor with a photo printed on it are variations on this theme. Assistance gifts Seniors want to remain as independent as possible. By giving items that help them do just that, you can bring smiles to their faces. One idea is motion-sensing light switches and fixtures. If and when nature calls in the middle of the night, hallways or bathrooms can be illuminated effortlessly. Shower and bathroom grab bars are another idea. These provide extra security and stability when getting in and out of the shower or when using the toilet. For seniors who just need a little extra reach, a grab tool can easily snag packages from a top shelf or pick up items that may have dropped to the floor, eliminating bending or straining. Practical technology Seniors may not be as immersed in technology as young people, but they purchase their share of gadgets and increasingly rely on tech to

get through the day. To free up more time for rest and relaxation,

invest in an iRobot Roomba Robot Vacuum. This simple device will clean floors easily, moving from room to room without the need for a bulky canister or upright vacuum. Consider an easy-to-use tablet, preloaded with handy applications. Grandparents can use video chatting to keep in touch with grandchildren living across the country. Easily refill prescription medication with a pharmacy app just a click away. Stream favorite movies or channels through video streaming sites, like Netflix or Amazon Prime. Tablets tend to be lightweight, portable and user-friendly. Personal care

Even independent seniors may benefit from a little extra companionship and assistance when family members are not able to make frequent visits. Hiring a visiting care worker, who can do everything from organizing pills to making dinner to tackling some laundry, can provide the help seniors need with their daily errands. Seniors are a thriving and growing demographic. It may seem challenging to purchase gifts for older loved ones, but with a little know-how, it’s easy to find the right present.

DIFFERENT GENERATIONS CAN LEARN AND BENEFIT FROM ONE ANOTHER Finding renewed vigor: Senior living and active lifestyle communities provide invaluable care and amenities for seniors. While being around like-minded individuals can be handy, it’s also limiting. Seniors who continue to age in place in mixed-age communities can extract joy from watching youthful children and young adults growing up, playing and socializing. Being around multiple generations also can spark interesting conversation, and all parties involved can learn something from one another.

Call for Location: 585-343-1611 December 10-14, 2018 FOUR TIPS FOR BETTER MANAGING YOUR RETIREMENT BUDGET (NAPSI)—A recent survey by Ameriprise Financial found that 68 percent of retirees with at least $100,000 in assets have not yet taken money out of their savings, beyond what they must withdraw as part of the IRS’ required mini-mum distributions from their retirement accounts. It turns out that the transition from saving money to living off of those assets is much tougher for seniors to navigate than many realized. The Ameriprise survey found that just one in five seniors say they feel “confident” about how to draw down their retirement savings, leaving them fraught with uncertainty about how to manage their budgets.

Monday: Roast Pork/Gravy

Thursday: Chicken Ala King

Tuesday: Knockwurst/Hot Dog Bun

Friday: Meat Loaf

Wednesday: Split Pea Soup Ravioli/Red Sauce

Helpful Hints Here are four tips that personal finance experts recommend for tapping that nest egg and making the most of your retirement years: 1. Revisit your monthly expenses. Many people do a good job of tracking their spending in their preretirement years and establishing projections for what they anticipate they will spend in retirement. But it’s important to revisit those estimates and use your actual expenditures to fine-tune your average monthly expenses. This will give you a more precise handle on your spending needs and might also identify some areas where you can reduce spending. 2. Consider the bucket approach to income. A common approach to the asset withdrawal phase of retirement is to establish a “bucket strategy.” This approach involves breaking your nest egg into three buckets: (1) The Cash Bucket (one to three years of short-term income); (2) The Income Bucket (five to eight years of medium-term income); and (3) The Growth Bucket (10+ years of long-term income). As each of the first two buckets gets low on dollars, you replenish them with assets from the others. This helps you achieve stability in your cash flow and increases peace of mind. 3. Maximize the value of your assets. In addition to savings accounts and retirement accounts, you may have the ability to unlock value from assets that you didn’t consider. For example, if you own your home, a reverse mortgage can free up cash for you while you still live there. Many seniors are surprised to learn that one potential asset for generating immediate cash is a life insurance policy. It’s your personal property, so you have the right to sell it anytime. When you sell a policy—something called a “life settlement” transaction—you get a cash payment and the purchaser assumes all future premium payments, then receives the death benefit. Candidates for life settlements are typically 70 or older, with a life insurance policy that has a death benefit of at least $100,000. 4. Keep a backstop in place. Financial advisers often recommend that you keep a cash backstop in place of perhaps 12−18 months’ worth of living expenses. This will help cover unexpected costs (the biggest risk factor is health care expenses) and provide you with some reassurance that you can weather a sudden big-ticket item without having to cancel that longplanned vacation. Remember, it’s your retirement; pay yourself first. For seniors who have fine-tuned their expense budget, allocated their income into buckets that ensure cash flow, maximized the value of their everyday assets and put in place a cash backstop, there’s no reason to hesitate to draw down your retirement accounts anymore. Just stick to your plan and stay the course. For seniors who need additional cash flow for retirement, if they own a life insurance policy that they no longer need or can afford, they may be able to boost their retirement savings by selling that policy for immediate cash. Batavia’s Christmas in the City: Bringing Neighbors Together By Amanda Dudek

On Saturday, December 1st, Christmas in the City once again surged through the streets of Batavia in festive splendor. Batavia’s Christmas in the City event is put together every year by Batavia’s Business Improvement District (BID) as it seeks to draw community members and others from surrounding areas in to enjoy the many excellent local businesses and features Batavia has to offer. This year, the festivities, which began at 2:00pm and ended with a parade, included everything from crafts to treats to Santa to train rides. Children were particularly delighted by the variety of activities at Christmas in the City this year. The Peyton Express, a small, wheeled train, rolled along School Street, giving rides to guests. T-Shirts, Etc. offered a Shirt Coloring Workshop at their Center Street location throughout the event. Children were also invited to visit Pollyanna & Dot and The Hidden Door at 202 East Main Street to write letters to Santa, and pictures with Santa’s well as the Grinch & Cindy Lou Who--were also available at Go Art!. At the Batavia City Centre, youngsters participated in cookie decorating and face painting, courtesy of GAMS Simply Sweet & Savory. Home Depot sponsored a toy making workshop, as well, in which younger guests could construct their own wooden toys like airplanes, fire boats or tic-tac-toe games! Refreshments and dining specials were available at the local establishments like Center Street Smokehouse and Eli Fish, as well. Guests were also invited to enjoy cups of free chili from Adam Miller Toys & Bicycles as they waited for the covered Horse and Buggy rides on Center Street, a welcome warm bite in the nipping cold. Outdoor fires placed around the city also helped to keep visitors warm as they strolled along the chilly streets. The Horse and Buggy rides weren’t the

only activities that included adult guests. Crafts and Vendors were displayed at the Batavia City Centre for adults to peruse as children engaged in their activities. Also, at 73 Main Street, a tasting was hosted by the Yngodess Shop for adults 21 years of age and older only. Then, at 6pm, the parade commenced, and in the parade, of course, was Santa Claus. The parade’s route down Main Street concentrated much of the crowd from City Hall to Bank Street. The parade itself largely consisted of floats created by local businesses, such as Eli Fish’s “Keg-Christmas Tree,” Rochester Regional H’alth’s “North Pole Elves” and The Home Depot’s “Tree Wonderland.” L&L Transmission provided Santa’s sleigh, and the 2018 Parade contest winner, Adam Miller Toy & Bicycle, had dozens of costumed bicycle riders whose bikes were lit up with Christmas lights. One rider’s bicycle twinkled from handlebars to taillight while he himself shone from head to toe. Joining the parade was the Genesee Valley Penny Saver Horse Float and some of our very own Penny Saver family along with it, adding to the spirit of the season! After the parade, at 7pm, the young and the young at heart came together in the Batavia City Centre for a showing of the Polar Express. This warm, holiday film was a lovely way to finish the evening. This fun, familyfriendly event is a great example of a community and its local businesses coming together and creating a wonderful day around town.

Your store makes me upset. I am told I need to use an app to find things, and I'm challenged when it comes to my smart phone. I'm an older lady, that has certain challenges anyhow. You think good customer service is out of style, and I must use an app to find things. What happened to your employees taking time to help me and others for that matter? Is being nice and helping people find things out of style at your store, so you just throw me under the bus because I'm unable to use the technology? I'm tired of asking your employees where things are just to be thrown a blank stare and told, "I don't know" while making no move to help me. Is

Thank you, Mayor Tom Freeman, for helping an old neighbor. We appreciated your help. It was so thoughtful of you to take the time and talk to the volunteers at the Polling stations to find out where my correct Voting location was. Your act of kindness touched our hearts. Dave & daughter

The right-to-farm does not give farmers the right to pollute the soil, water or air. I realize we depend on farmers for our food but they must live on the land, drink the water and breath the air too! And many people who live in the country have been there a long time. (There's one local farm that boasts about being in business since the early 1800s; how many cows did they have then?!) Whoever stole the A-Frame sign advertising the Dec. 8th (local town) Scouts Craft Show on the

corner of (local roads) Gas Station this past weekend, you should be ashamed of yourself. The sign cost the scouts over $70 to make. This event is a fundraiser for the Scouts and the proceeds go directly to individual scouts to help pay for summer camp as well as other Scouting expenses. You stole from every (local town) Boy Scout and the volunteers who help provide the Scouting program for them. It is hard for me to imagine what your motivation would be for trying to hurt a young man's chance at attending summer Scout camp-Have a change of heart and return the sign no questions asked. On behalf of the (local town) Boy Scout Troop, I wish you a Merry Christmas.

BOOST ENERGY AT THE OFFICE Eat a productivity-friendly lunch. If afternoons are when your productivity really starts to drop off, it might be time to reconsider what you eat for lunch. The body, which converts the foods we eat into glucose that energizes our brains and promotes alertness, processes different types of foods differently. So the food you eat for lunch may affect your energy levels for the rest of the day. For example, eating pasta provides a quick burst of energy because pasta releases glucose quickly. But that burst is often followed by a noticeable downturn in energy levels sparked by fading glucose levels that make it difficult for the brain to focus. In contrast, fruits and vegetables aid in the production of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that helps the brain stay motivated and engaged. Including some fruits and vegetables in your lunch or snacks may just lead to a more productive workday.

THE FLORIDA KEYS DELIVER EXPERIENCES UNLIKE ANYWHERE ELSE (NAPSI)—The most significant worldwide travel trend today is individuals’ desire for experiential travel. Gone is the era of ticking destinations off a “bucket list”; today’s traveler seeks personally transformative encounters with people and places that bring deeper meaning and lifelong memories to a vacation.

The Florida Keys & Key West abound in unique experiences that can be found “Only in the Keys” throughout the 125-mile-long island chain. On a drive down the famed Overseas Highway from Key Largo to Key West you’ll enjoy the distinctive character of individual islands. In Key Largo, take a 90-minute canal cruise on the African Queen, the original vessel from the 1951 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. A registered national historic site, the boat looks much as it did on the silver screen. For a “hook and cook” experience in Islamorada, book a charter in the Sportfishing Capital of the World for exhilarating offshore, reef or backcountry fishing—then take your catch to a local restaurant to be prepared according to a signature local recipe. Encounter rescued sea turtles during a behind-the-scenes tour of the planet’s first licensed veterinary hospital for turtles. Located in Marathon, The Turtle Hospital rescues and rehabilitates sick and injured turtles and, whenever possible, releases them back into the ocean. West of Marathon, you’ll drive across the landmark Seven Mile Bridge, one of the world’s longest segmental bridges and the centerpiece of the iconic Florida Keys Overseas Highway. Discover tiny Key deer on Big Pine Key. Endangered Key deer live only in the Lower Keys and can be spotted grazing during early morning and at dusk. The 9,000-acre National Key Deer Refuge was established in 1957 to protect the diminutive deer and other indigenous wildlife. In Key West, explore history with former President Harry Truman and author Ernest Hemingway. The Harry S. Truman Little White House Museum is Florida’s only presidential museum. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is where the writer lived and wrote masterpieces in the 1930s. Be sure to pet a descendant of Hemingway’s six-toed cat. Finally, take a selfie just 90 miles from Cuba at Key West’s red, black and yellow Southernmost Point marker that denotes the southernmost land mass in the continental United States. RELOCATING FOR A NEW JOB

DID YOU KNOW?

Rent your first home. The Allied survey found that 31 percent of respondents indicated the most challenging part of relocating for a job was finding a home, while 29 percent felt acclimating to their new community was the most challenging aspect of their relocation. Adults who rent their first homes upon relocating can remove some of the pressure to find the perfect home, knowing full well their first home in their new community will be temporary. If possible, rent in a location that makes it easy to immerse yourself in your new community, which should make the adjustment easier. In addition, place items that are unnecessary for day-to-day life in storage. Having some of your possessions already packed should make your next move less stressful.

Nursing is one of the fastest-growing and longest-running occupations in the United States and Canada. The New England Hospital for Women and Children, established in 1862, was the first nursing school in the United States. The first formal nursing training program in Canada was established in 1874 at the General and Marine Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. The American Nurses Association was started in 1898. The Canadian Nurses’ Association, formerly the Canadian National Association of Trained Nurses, was developed in 1907. These associations are national professional associations representing the hundreds of thousands of nurses across the country and are instrumental in legislative policy and the influences of health care on nursing professionals today.

How households earn their income has changed dramatically over the last several decades. According to a Pew Research Centeral analysis of the Decennial Census and American Community Surveys integrated Public Use Microdata Sample files, in 1960 only fathers worked in 70 percent of American households. That figure has dropped in each ensuing decade and by 2012 fathers were the sole earners in just 31 percent of American households. While one in four households in American were dual income households in 1960, by 2012 that figure had risen to 60 percent. While those figures represent dramatic changes, the number of households in which mothers are the sole earners has not changed all that much since 1960. In 1960, mothers were the sole earners in just 2 percent of American households. Fifty-two years later 6 percent of American households featured mothers as the sole earners.

But time can be a sieve, and retirement age can arrive in the blink of an eye. Young adults who have not planned accordingly for retirement can find themselves in financial straits at a point in their lives when they want to kick back and enjoy themselves. Financial experts advise that financially solvent people should begin saving aggressively for their retirements early on. Ideally people should start saving in their 20s when they first leave school and begin their careers. The sooner one saves, the more time money has to grow. Vanguard says that the person who saves $4,500 per year over a career spanning 45 years can reach a goal of having more than $1 million in savings by the time he or she retires. Compounding interest and investment matches from employers can further secure professionals’ financial futures.
