H O R O SC O P E S ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Your soft-hearted self is drawn to a tempting offer. But your hard-headed half isn’t so sure. Best advice: Do it only after every detail is checked out to your liking. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Your inventive mind should help you find a way to get around an apparently impassable barrier and make yourself heard. Your efforts get you noticed by the right people. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You’re enjoying this creative period. But by midweek, you’ll need to emphasize your more pragmatic talents as you consider a risky but potentially lucrative move. CANCER ( June 21 to July 22) An unexpected rejection could turn into something positive if you pocket your pride and ask for advice on how you can make changes that will make the difference. LEO ( July 23 to August 22) Your Lion’s heart gives you the courage to push for answers to a job-related situation. Stay with it. You’ll soon find more believers coming out the ranks of the doubters. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Your curiosity pays off this week as you push past the gossip to find the facts. What you ultimately discover could lead you to make some changes in your plans. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A new sense of enthusiasm helps get you out of on-the-job doldrums and back into a productive phase. Family matters also benefit from your more positive attitude. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) A bit of nostalgia is fine. But don’t stay back in the past too long or you might miss seeing the signpost up ahead pointing the way to a new opportunity. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) If you feel you need to take more time to study a situation before making a decision, do so. Don’t let anyone push you into acting until you’re ready. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) As the Great Advice Giver, the Goat really shines this week as family and friends seek your wisdom. Someone especially close to you might make a surprising request. AQUARIUS ( January 20 to February 18) Spiritual concerns dominate part of the week before more worldly matters demand your attention. An old promise resurfaces with some surprises attached. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) You’re in a highly productive period and are eager to finish all the projects you’ve taken on. But don’t let yourself get swamped. Take a breather now and again. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a gift for learning new things quickly and applying your knowledge to best advantage where needed. (c) 2018 King Features Syndicate, Inc.

FACTS ABOUT FEBRUARY Despite being the shortest month of the calendar year, February has an interesting history. Early calendars marked the start of the new year in March, but when the second king of Rome, Numa Pompilius, rose to the throne in 713 BC, he synchronized the calendar to the lunar year. That required the addition of January and February.

PROTECT YOUR VEHICLE FROM SNOW, ICE AND DAM AGE FROM THE COLD

Snow tires a w orthy investment

Use a soft snow brush or a foam brush to clear snow off of the car. Avoid hard plastic scrapers you might use on your w indshield, as they can scratch painted surfaces.

DID YOU KNOW? Through the years, cars have evolved so much that certain parts once integral to their operation have now become obsolete. Only time will tell which components and features of today’s cars will disappear in the future. However, present drivers can reminisce about how cars have evolved even in the last 20 to 30 years. The following are some once-standard parts and features that have all but disappeared from modern vehicles. Ashtrays and cigarette lighters: Smoking-related accessories began to vanish as the dangers of smoking became more apparent. Ashtrays in the dashboard and in the rear armrests are no longer standard. Full-sized spare tire: The “doughnuts” of today can be driven on for only limited distances and look awkward on larger vehicles. The full-sized spare enabled drivers to repair the flat tire on their own schedules. Control knobs: Push buttons and digital dashes have replaced the manual knobs of the past. Levers often enabled drivers to adjust the heat without taking their eyes off the road. Bench seats: Front bench seats have given way to two seats separated by a center console. No longer is it possible to fit three or four people in the front of a vehicle. Whip antenna: Remember those thin, flexible antennas? Many modern vehicles feature more solid antennas that can be unscrewed for trips through the carwash or an antenna that is modeled into the car in an inconspicuous way. If drivers exhibit a preference for satellite radio in the years ahead, traditional antennas may soon become obsolete as well.

Brake controls for • Trailers Hitches: • 5th Wheel • Gooseneck

• Stepbars • Tonneau Covers • Bug Deflectors • Tool Boxes • Rain Guards • Mud Flaps

People w ho live in very cold climates and areas w here snow and ice dominate the landscape for several months per year often find all-season tires are inadequate and likely to slip. Snow tires make for safer alternatives in such regions.

According to the Federal Highw ay Adm inistration, crashes on snow y and icy pavem ent result in m ore than 1,300 deaths and 116,000 injuries each year. Winter driving can be tricky and requires a driver’s full attention, so protect yourself and your fam ily this year by altering your driving techniques. When a road is slick, avoid using cruise control to ensure you have full control over the vehicle’s speed at all tim es. It’s also im portant to never slam on the brakes, as this w ill cause a vehicle to skid and lose control. Instead, brake gently. Additionally, give yourself extra travel tim e and patience this season. By doing so, you’ll be sure to keep you and your fam ily safer during harsh driving conditions.

HOW TO M AKE OLDER HOM ES M ORE ENERGY EFFICIENT

The DIY movement has inspired many homeowners to tackle home repair and remodeling projects on their own. DIY projects can be rewarding, and many homeowners who have embraced the DIY movement have discovered talents they never before knew they had. But no matter how simple popular home renovation television shows make remodeling projects appear, homeowners should know that such undertakings are far more difficult than they appear on television. Homeowners who overestimate their abilities and the time they have to complete projects can cost themselves substantial amounts of money. In fact, there are a variety of reasons homeowners might want to work with professional contractors when tackling home improvement projects.

Add insulation. M any older homes are poorly insulated. But according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, adding insulation can reduce energy costs by as much as 50 percent. Installing insulation can be tricky, especially if insulation w as not originally included in your home, as is sometimes the case w ith older homes. Insulation can become damp and prove ineffective if installed improperly. Damp insulation also may contribute to mold grow th and rot in the home’s framing. Older homes may be lacking adequate insulation around attics, craw l spaces, basements, heating and cooling ducts, and w ater pipes. Cover your w ater heater w ith an insulated w ater heater blanket so the heater retains more heat and consumes less energy to heat the w ater.

MAKE BEDROOMS MORE CONDUCIVE TO SLEEP Insufficient sleep causes more problems than many people may know. Fatigue after a poor night’s sleep might seem like an inconvenience that can be easily rectified, but the long-term effects of insufficient sleep are significant. According to the National Sleep Foundation, researchers have found a link between insufficient sleep and an elevated risk for type 2 diabetes. In one such study exploring that potential link, researchers asked healthy adults to sleep just four hours per night for six nights. At the conclusion of that period, participants’ ability to break down glucose had decreased by an average of 40 percent and reached levels that are consistent with those of older adults at risk for diabetes. Insufficient sleep may be linked to any of a host of factors, including one’s bedroom environment. An environment that promotes restful sleep can help people suffering from insomnia or restlessness improve the quality of their sleep.

KEITH JENSEN FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Food can be used to fend of the flu. Common foods that many people already have in their pantries can be powerful flu-fighters. Garlic, for example, contains compounds that have direct antiviral effects and may help destroy the flu before it affects the body. Raw garlic is best. In addition to garlic, citrus fruits, ginger, yogurt, and dark leafy greens can boost immunity and fight the flu, according to Mother Nature’s Network. The British Journal of Nutrition notes that dark chocolate supports T-helper cells, which increase the immune system’s ability to defend against infection.

OAKFIELD Oakfield Historical Society Monthly Meeting - Tuesday, March 6, 7pm-9pm, Oakfield Government & Community Center, 3219 Drake St., Oakfield. The first installment of Oakfield Historical Society’s 2018 lecture series is about the Orphan Train. By the 1850s, large eastern U.S. cities had massive numbers of orphaned children. New York City alone had an estimated 30,000 children without parents, making placement with local families virtually impossible in a city of 500,000. The orphan trains operated between 1854 and 1929, relocating about 200,000 orphaned, abandoned, or homeless children. Perennial favorite speaker Jeff Donahue is presenting this fascinating program. Event is free and open to the public. http://www. oakfieldhistory.org

70th Anniversary Series- Volume 8 Our Mission… We’re in the business of helping you reach your customers through advertising, printing, direct mail and promotional products… It’s a tall order, but we’re up for the challenge. The Genesee Valley Penny Saver was our first endeavor 70 years ago and continues on as the cornerstone of our business today. However, through the years, as different needs for advertising developed, we began to stretch our capabilities to include many other avenues in which advertisers could reach their customers. In 1993 we redesigned our business structure and began Penny Lane Printing, a sister corporation to the Genesee Valley Penny Saver. Although we had been doing printing up until then, Penny Lane Printing gave us the opportunity to market ourselves as a premier source of all things printed: Stationery, business cards, newsletters, posters, flyers, calendars, signage and publications of all sorts. We pride ourselves on our talented Creative Team who use their expertise to incorporate your ideas into dynamic designs for every facet of Penny Lane as well as Penny Saver. Custom designed invitations, save-the-dates, response cards for weddings and graduations have become a nice addition to our print work. (We will feature our Creative Department in a future volume.) Within Penny Lane Printing, we have the Penny Express division which processes virtually any direct mail piece that is delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. Our mailing software has quarterly updates and gets the best discounts. Penny Lane Promotional Products is our division that can provide you with thousands of different specialty items including t-shirts, banners, pens, mugs, glassware, hats, business incentive awards, to name a few. And on our website, GVPennySaver.com, all our GVPS ads appear online. You can also promote your business through banner advertising, view our weekly online editions, take advantage of our weekly coupon club and promote your business with electronic direct mail. Our online experts can even design custom websites. Staying true to our Mission Statement, we are always working on new and different ways for our customers to make the most of the dollars they spend to reach their customers. …stay tuned for volume 9 next month

Magic Maze MORE OR LESS WORDS We Care About

Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy CATCH-22 FOR DIABETICS Diabetics have every reason to keep their blood sugar under control with medication and healthy habits. One potential complication they face is an increased prevalence of gum disease because they are generally more susceptible to bacterial infection and have a decreased ability to fight invasive bacteria. Complicating the situation even further is emerging research showing that not only are people with diabetes more susceptible to serious gum disease, but serious gum disease may have the potential to affect blood glucose and contribute to the progression of diabetes. To put it simply, the relationship between diabetes and gum disease is a two-way street. Diabetics must be diligent about their brushing and flossing habits, as well as controlling their blood sugar levels. At BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL, we stay on the leading-edge of dentistry,

keeping up to date on the latest health studies and dental techniques, materials, and therapies to ensure all our patients receive the very best in dental health care. If you are looking for a family dentist who understands the needs of everyone in your family as individuals and patients, we welcome you to stop by 6 Batavia City Centre, and get acquainted. We’re sure you’ll leave with a good feeling about our practice. For an appointment, please call 585.343.4246. P.S. Due to their higher susceptibility to serious gum disease, diabetics face a higher risk of bone loss (in the jaws) and subsequent tooth loss.

--DEAR DR. ROACH: The senior center in my community is kept at a temperature that I and many other seniors find too cool for our comfort. After two hours of playing Scrabble or watching a film, we feel chilled to the bone. We have complained many times to the management, with no change. Recently, I overheard an employee explain to a complainer that the center maintains the cool temperature to keep the germ count in the air down in order to promote a healthy environment. I know very warm temperatures can promote germ growth (anyone in Bacteriology 101 has seen it proven), but would raising the temperature from 72 F to 75 F have any bad effect on the air quality? -- H.L. ANSWER: In bacteriology, most of what we did was in incubators at 37 degrees Celsius (about 99 degrees F), an optimal growth temperature for most pathogenic bacteria in or on a growth medium. However, I was surprised to find that hotter temperatures, in general, tend to reduce both viruses and bacteria in the air. So there’s no validity to the employee’s claim. The people controlling the temperature (the staff ) probably are more comfortable at a cooler temperature than the seniors taking advantage of the senior center (there are many reasons for this). Your suggestion of 75 F seems a perfectly reasonable temperature to me, but maybe it’s worth finding out what most of the community wants. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: My doctor will not issue maintenance medication prescriptions for longer than three months. My insurance company has sent me many emails asking me to have him write them for the year, and when I mention it to him, he just refuses. I have been seeing him for five years, and everything is just fine. All bloodwork numbers are excellent. He has just posted a sign in his office that no prescriptions will be refilled without an office visit, so I am not the only one subject to this policy. We like this doctor, but we think this practice is somewhat overbearing, if not unethical. I’d like my prescription to be for a year because we are retired and travel. In the past, more than once I have had to call my pharmacy and have refills sent to another address. This doctor will not respond to calls from a pharmacy for refills; only a visit will do. Is there anything that can be done other than changing doctors? -- A. ANSWER: I wouldn’t say that this practice is unethical. Physicians need to decide for themselves how comfortable they are in treating chronic conditions without seeing their patients for a prolonged period. His method ensures very regular follow-up, and he is likely to find changes to your condition more quickly than if he wrote yearly prescriptions. On the other hand, many people don’t need such close follow-up, and it is significantly less convenient for many. The bottom line is, no matter what his motivation for such a policy, those who find this too much of an inconvenience probably would do better with a different provider. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Fainting spells for elderly linked to blood clots Falls are one of the greatest risk factors for injury among the aging population. When falls are attributed to fainting spells, people may be very eager to get to the source of the fall. Doctors have found that blood clots may attribute to fainting in the elderly. Information published in the journal Clinical Geriatric Medicine found that the elderly are at a higher risk of blood clots because of their reduced mobility. Blood clots may result in deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, and could lead to a pulmonary embolism if left untreated. DVT is a common problem involving the veins of the legs. Blood pooling in the legs may cause a blood clot to form in the deep veins of the lower leg, impairing blood flow back to the heart. A pulmonary embolism, or PE, occurs when a clot dislodges from the leg veins and travels through the bloodstream to reach the heart and lungs. According to the health site Aging Care, as many as one million Americans suffer from blood clots every year, often resulting in hospitalization. While swelling in the legs, cramping in the lower legs, skin color changes, and warmth of the skin where the clot is located can signal a problem, symptoms of a PE may vary greatly. Shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, and rapid or irregular heartbeat can all occur, says The Mayo Clinic. Researchers are finding that, in some cases, fainting episodes also may be indicative of a PE. Italian researchers revealed that, among 560 patients hospitalized for a first-time fainting spell, one in six had a PE.

Certain risk factors put people at a higher chance for DVT and PE. These include: • prior surgery • certain cancers • cardiovascular disease • bed rest that causes blood to pool • sitting for long periods of time • smoking • being overweight

People who are experiencing fainting spells should be on the radar for other symptoms of PE, advises the American College of Chest Physicians. However, it’s important to note that fainting can be attributed to dehydration, a drop in blood pressure and heart-rhythm disturbances.

Use of compression stockings to move blood more efficiently, physical activity, leg elevation, anticoagulants, and pneumatic compression can help prevent the formation of clots. Because PE can be life-threatening, people experiencing fainting or other symptoms are urged to speak with their doctors.

HOW TO MAINTAIN MENTAL ACUITY Stay socially connected. Maintaining social connections with family, friends and community members also can help women prevent cognitive decline. Epidemiologist Bryan James of the Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center studied how social activity affected cognitive decline, ultimately noting that the rate of cognitive decline was considerably lower among men and women who maintained social contact than it was among those with low levels of social activity.

“THINK BIG” Could Very Well Be the Theme for the 33rd Annual Rochester Auto Show, March 1 thru 4 When the 33rd annual Greater Rochester International Auto Show sets up shop at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center for its annual four day stay, Thursday thru Sunday, March 1 thru 4, if it used themes, this one could very well be “Think Big.” According to Show Manager Richard Sherman who has been with the show from the beginning, “We always pride ourselves on the great diversity of product that we have at the show, something to fit everyone’s taste and wallet, be it Pickups, SUV’s, CUV’s, High Performers, Hybrids, Electrics, Compacts or Luxuries, we have them all. But there is no doubt that this year the manufacturers are stressing the big vehicles, especially Pickups and SUV’s. In a very good auto sales year, over 17 million sold, car sales were down over 10 percent while SUV’s and Pickups were up over 4 percent. And that is a trend that is going to continue in 2018. SUV and truck sales are edging toward two out of every three vehicles sold. But rest assured, for those attendees who want to see the latest in passenger cars, there will be plenty to look at with Honda featuring the redesigned Accord, the North American Car of the Year. Sharing attention will be Toyota’s redesigned Avalon, Kia’s redesigned Forte, the new Hyundai Veloster, the redesigned VW Jetta and the Hard Top Mini, just to name a few that were hits at the recently concluded North American Auto Show in Detroit. Not to be outdone, Chevrolet, Ford, Nissan, Chrysler, Fiat, Dodge, Hyundai, VW, Mazda, Subaru and Mitsubishi will all be drawing attention to their entries in this field. Nissan, for one, has almost doubled their space at the show to present much more of their line. And as for Luxury brands, Lincoln, Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Porsche, Audi, Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, Range Rover and Buick all will be in there with their best. As for electric plug-ins, Honda will show their new Clarity, Hyundai their Ioniq, BMW the i3, Chevrolet will have the Bolt, Toyota the Prius Prime and Mitsubishi the Outlander PHEV, among others. When it comes to pickups and SUV’s, show visitors certainly want to visit, among others, the Dodge Ram display, the GMC display, Chevrolet, Jeep and Ford. Nearly every company has an entry in the SUV field, some in the luxury SUV category and others in the relatively new Subcompact SUV category which features vehicles like the Buick Encore and the new Ford EcoSport. Many of the exhibiting companies will also feature the newest in Crossover Utility Vehicles, CUV’s. As for sneak previews, the list will be headed by the 2019 Subaru Ascent. Visitors also should not miss the state police display at the rear of the first floor. Tying in with the theme of bigness, this year’s show will feature a very special BIG feature with the weekend appearance of the super robot GigaMaxx, which has to be seen to be believed. Maxx is the first prototype of his kind, standing 9 feet tall, he appears to be a living, thinking robot who can process like a human being, with 4 different operational centers synthesizing sight, touch, feeling and thought. He will be making three one-hour appearances each day on Saturday and Sunday only, starting at Noon, 2 pm and 4 pm.. The Saturday schedule is Noon at the Honda display, 2 pm at the Toyota Display and 4 pm at Ford. On Sunday, it’s Noon at Toyota, 2 pm at Honda and 4 pm at Mercedes and BMW. Show hours are Thursday and Friday, Noon to 10 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 10 pm and Sunday 10 am to 7 pm. Admission will be $9.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and active military and $3.00 for children under 12 with no charge for children under 5. There is ample low cost parking for show visitors at the South Avenue garage with a covered walkway right to the Convention Center.

FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Annual flu shots administered in advance of flu season can help protect people and their families from getting the flu. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that, in select situations, antiviral medications - which are usually prescribed to treat the flu and lessen symptoms - can reduce the chance of illness in people exposed to influenza. Many over-the-counter medicines can alleviate symptoms of the flu, but cannot fend it off.

What a gem of an organization Avon has in the Historical Society. Hardworking, dedicated folks who care so much about our past and who so nicely present it beautifully in our downtown museum. Thanks for all you do!

Good Neighbors make this small town life wonderful. Thank you to Joe who plows our driveway every time it snows. You have no idea how much it is appreciated!! THANK YOU. - B. Family

Thank you Bee Morning Coffee Club for making me smile on my ride to work every day. TJ, Steve and Newman, you guys are the best ever along with Billy Kid and Terry Clifford! The morning you spoke with Holly who was looking for Lady Antebellum tickets was the SWEETEST! Keep up the great work! A daily listener

Thank you to the 2 wonderful gentlemen who helped me with my car rim and tire. I appreciate their help. I don't know what I would have done without them! - The elderly lady

I recently traveled out of town to go a Holiday Church Bazaar just to find out it closed an hour before its advertised time. I work on Saturdays and simply couldn't come sooner but was happy thinking I'd be able to see it. This sort of thing happens frequently anymore. Volunteers simply don't care about commitments to stay until an event

is scheduled to end. While it's true there are much more important things to be upset about than bazaars and rummage sales closing early, it is also true that I personally am less interested in helping a charity whose volunteers simply can't be bothered taking the time out of their lives to keep an event open its entire scheduled time. In my opinion, commitments matter. I made an effort to come. Please make an effort to be there. To the woman in the house across the street: my husband is sick of seeing you walk around naked. We called the police on you and they said there's nothing they can do, that you have a right to wear anything you want in your own home. And yet, every

Thank you for supporting our 44th Annual German Mardi-Gras. Once again it was a full house and a great success! None of which would have been possible without all the support from the organizations and businesses that donated the raffle baskets and costume winner prizes. We would also like to thank all the volunteers that stepped up to decorate and set everything up the Friday night before and then after a full evening of fun and revelry Saturday, remained to take everything down, pack it all away, and put all the tables and chairs away again! This has been an annual event put on by The Federation of GermanAmerican Societies of

Rochester, Inc. each year a week or so before Fat Tuesday. We look forward to our 45th year, which will be held the first weekend in March, 2019- check out www.RochesterGerman.org

night at supper time, there you are. Personally, I don't care what you do, but my husband has to look at you every single night and he's fed up with it. Get a life!

On Tuesday, 11-21-17, at 12:15pm. To the older female at the east end of our city in a store parking lot. We saw you lurking around a truck where you left a hateful note to a woman you obviously know nothing about who is disabled. Shame on you at your age judging and bullying anyone. She has served our medical teams for many years, (possibly even you!) until she was injured and has many other ailments. How can anyone be so mean and hateful at this time of year or any time when so many people need kindness and encouraging words just to get through a day? Try it, you might feel good about yourself! One day you will be judged yourself. Hope it turns out for ya!

Reply to vent about local physicians - Maybe you should consider the advice for insulin, 2 out of 3 MDs are saying you need it. Who are you to second guess their advice? Did you go to school for endocrine disease? Do you know that diabetes left untreated can lead to blindness, kidney failure, vascular disease, loss of limbs among numerous other issues? Dr. shopping to achieve the advice you are looking for is not too smart and you will find a fool for a patient! Best to heed the advice of the professionals before you don't have a leg to stand on, literally!

DID YOU KNOW? Wedding insurance can provide couples who are about to tie the knot with some peace of mind on their big days. Many wedding venues require couples carry liability coverage in the case of accidents, injuries or incidents. But wedding insurance policies may even surprise couples with regard to what they cover. Each policy is different, and couples may be able to customize wedding insurance policies to cover a host of items. Many policies cover couples in the wake of cancellations or postponements due to weather, damage to the facility or even a change of heart on the part of the couple holding the policy. But some policies may provide coverage for couples should their photographers and/or caterers fail to appear. Policies may also cover lost, stolen or damaged items, including equipment rentals, bridal growns, jewelry, and/or gifts. Couples should speak with their wedding venue representative to determine if the venue offers extended coverage and ultimately compare those offerings to policy estimates they receive on their own.

FLU-FIGHTING TIPS: Those who feel symptoms coming on should begin drinking more liquids to keep the respiratory system hydrated and make mucus less viscous. Remember to get adequate sleep, as a tired body cannot effectively fight the flu virus.

Memory Lane By Sharon Larsen Old favorites sung in new ways - Genesee Chorale is aiming to take its audience down Memory Lane at its March 4 (snow date March 17) concert at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, 2 Summit St., Batavia. Singers go on stage at 4 p.m. with a collection gleaned from pop, rock, Broadway, Hollywood and television themes. “The Chorale members have so much fun putting together programs like Memory Lane,” said Soprano Rachel Chrostowski. “When we sing songs that are familiar to people, it really makes choral music accessible. I can’t wait to see our audience react to our rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody!” Yes - that is Queen’s famed “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Add to the evening’s performance, the Beatles - “In My Life” with soloist Kara Richenberg and “Blackbird” sung by the 75member Chorale. Think James Taylor - “How Sweet It Is” with a duet by Fran and Peg Thomas, and “Fire and Rain” by the Chorale. Listen to Bob Holley, Jim Ellison and director Ric Jones sing “The Unicorn Song,” and then Mark Ross singing “As Time Goes By” and “I’ll Be Seeing You,” accompanied on piano by Elaine Ross. Chorale pianist Doug Hanson accompanies most of the selections Chorale members also take on the challenge of the “Hallelujah” made famous by Jeff Buckley. From Broadway come “Memory” from Cats, “Send in the Clowns” from A Little Night Music

Ric Jones directs the Genesee Chorale

and “Someone to Watch Over Me” from Oh Kay! Charlie Gould sings “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”, and Pamm Seifert sings “Chances Are.” The program also includes a touch of Simon and Garfunkle, Bob Dylan, the theme from Laverne & Shirley, and more. “The March 4th concert will be a very enjoyable trip down Memory Lane,” said Chorale member Jim Ellison. “Don’t miss the fun!” This project was made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by GO ART! Tickets are $8 presale, either from any Chorale member or online at geneseechorale.com. They will also be available at the door for $10.

DINING OUT WITH INFANTS New parents often need a respite from the near-constant demands of infants. Dining out can be one of those breaks. When a babysitter is unavailable or if you’re not yet comfortable leaving a little one with someone else, bringing baby along may be possible. First, find a family-friendly restaurant or try an establishment that has outdoor seating where you can quickly distance yourself from other diners if need be. Time dining out around the baby’s feeding and sleeping schedule. Babies sated by a recent feeding and a relaxing car ride may be more inclined to sleep through your restaurant meal. Just in case, pack an extra bottle or prepare to breastfeed to keep your baby happy.
