I need a home MOBILE DOG GROOMING
Tulip was rescued from a puppy mill auction in October 2010 when our rescue headed an effort to save over 60 dogs from being cycled back into breeding operations. Tulip was only 6 wks. old when we took her from the mill, so she didn’t have any of the typical mill issues. Through a series of events (read more on our website) Tulip is now seeking a home with no other dogs or cats. She is crate trained. She is 7 years old.

I would like to thank the woman who found my wallet at the Victor Target store on Wednesday afternoon, March 7th. After paying for my purchases, I thought I dropped my wallet back into my purse, but without me realizing it, I missed and it fell to the floor. I was told the honest woman in line behind me turned it in, completely intact. I was home for a while before realizing my wallet was missing, and panic set in. What a relief when told Target had it in their locked cabinet. I can't thank you enough for being honest and turning my wallet over to customer service. Whoever you are, I am eternally grateful to you. Thank you to the Target employees who kept it secured until I could retrieve it. Bless all of you.
I’d like to respond to the venter who was complaining about recycling in an "upscale neighborhood" making the area a "mess." HOW can you complain about a natural phenomenon over which people have no control?! Send all your hot air up to the weather gods!! (BTW it's "incredible" NOT "incredulous").
Just after getting to a Doctor appointment for my Husband today (we are Seniors) my cairn terrier-support dog "J" got loose when the plastic snap on his collar came apart. J took off running through the Henrietta Park area with me chasing after him. J wasn't slowing down and he then ran across Calkins Road. I would still be trying to find and catch J if it weren't for "Sam and Cory of the Town of Henrietta" who came to my aid, caught and saved J. Thank you so very much Sam and Cory!!! God Bless You! I will pay it forward. Anna and J I want to thank my wonderful neighbors from the farm on
I travel up and down [local road] many times since I have family in [local town]. I had to stop a few times for the ducks that cross the road to get to the water on the other side. I watch for them every time I drive that way. My heart was broken when I saw one had gotten hit. Ducks do not fly away like other birds do. They waddle away. If you cannot stop or slow down for these beautiful creatures then you should not drive. I have stopped for all kinds of animals since I am an animal lover and we must share this earth with them. Please have a heart and watch out for the ducks. In a craft store the other night, a severely ill child was shopping for club project materials with Mom. Kid
Cadyville Rd. in Livonia. Every snowfall they send someone over to plow my very long driveway. During this last snowfall they were out there at 6am plowing so I could get to work on time. It is neighbors like that, that create a wonderful neighborhood to live in. Thank you so much. Thank you to all of the drivers who stopped to check on me after my car went off the road after encountering unexpectedly snowy roads in Lima over the weekend. It was heartwarming to see how many people took the time to make sure I was okay. And special thanks to the gentleman in the red pickup truck who was able
to tow my car out of the snow bank. Thank you again for taking the time to help!!!!
coughed at least 100 times most without covering mouth in the 20 minutes they were in the store. I counted 75 coughs after about 5 minutes of this while I cowered in back of store waiting for them to leave. I know it is important for a child to pick out their own supplies for projects, but the child clearly was not well enough shop in public yet. If he absolutely had to be there, kid needed a mask and proper instruction on covering cough Dracula style. Exposed fellow shoppers and employees to whatever illness child had. This is how severe illness spreads needlessly. Please be considerate of others by staying home or covering yourself with a mask if you must go out when ill.
Don't assume that your 'daytime running lights' include your taillights. Even on many of the newer vehicles, the back end of your vehicle is NOT illuminated, unless you physically turn your DRIVING lights on. Cars in this morning's fog were nearly invisible from behind; same thing happens in the rain and snow. EASY FIX? Drive with your lights on all the time, the cost of replacing them a little more often is more than offset by increasing your visibility and safety. Just because YOU can see doesn't mean other drivers can see you, especially if their windows are dirty.
Thank you to whoever found and turned in a gold hoop earring at The Dollar Store in Batavia. It has been reunited with its mate. Your honesty is appreciated by its grateful owner!

Properly m aint ained headlight s vast ly im prove driver saf et y Don’t just replace but upgrade your headlight bulbs. Bulbs that have started to dim need to be repla ced, but auto enthusiasts or maintenance-savvy drivers know they can upgrade their bulbs w hen replacing them. Indu stry experts recommend replacing headlamp bulbs every tw o years, and replacing them in pairs to make sure the vehicle’s lighting is equally balanced. But rather than sticking w ith the bulbs provided by the car maker, look for a bulb that makes it easier to see at night and during hazardous conditions. These headlights put more light on the road, helping to make up for poor w eather, dimly lit roads, aging headlights, and even the loss of n ight vision many drivers experience as they age. Capable of providing up to 100 percent more light than the stan dard halogen bulbs found on the majority of vehicles today, special headlights create a better beam patte rn that is dramatically longer than the standard bulbs, vastly improving driver vision and safety.

SAFETY IN NUMBERS: WHY IT PAYS TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULBS IN PAIRS When it comes to vehicle maintenance, the rule of two has long reigned among professional automotive technicians and driving safety advocates. In accordance to this rule, drivers replacing important parts in their cars and trucks, such as tires, brakes, shocks and wiper blades, should always do so in pairs. Replacing parts in pairs can ensure vehicles are properly balanced and functioning safely. But it’s not just tires, brakes and other big-ticket components that should be replaced in pairs. Vehicle lighting plays an integral role in keeping drivers and their passengers safe, and motorists should exercise the same caution regarding their vehicles’ headlights, taillights and turn signals that they do when maintaining the rest of their cars and trucks.

VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Your superjudgmental side could dominate the week unless you try to keep it in check. Otherwise you risk offending people, including some who are very close to you. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Expect more information to come out about that possible career shift. Meanwhile, your loving concern helps someone close to you get through a worrisome period. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Despite an occasional setback, workplace pressures should continue to ease through most of the week. This would be a good time to plan that long-delayed trip. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) The sage Sagittarian quickly recognizes an opportunity when she or he sees it, especially if it’s one you’ve been planning for. Take aim and go for it. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) The Sea Goat’s unique insight guides you as you check out a questionable situation. Your efforts should prove rewarding for you and your many supporters. AQUARIUS ( January 20 to February 18) You might want to pace yourself a bit more. Rushing could lead to serious slip-ups. Take more time to check out details you might otherwise overlook. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) The best way to resolve those remaining problems is to ask others for help. They’ll be happy to do so, especially when you agree to share the credit for a job well done. BORN THIS WEEK: Your natural gift for honest leadership earns you the respect and admiration of others. 14th Anniversary Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Abuse Poster Contest Held at St. Agnes School By Donald Drexler Students at St. Agnes School in Avon recently participated in their 14th Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Abuse Poster Contest for ages 8 to 11. Posters included a slogan that reflected either of the topics and an original visual image. Judges scored the posters on slogan, artistic merit and overall impact. This year the themes were clearly presented, the visuals conveyed a message and in turn additional time was spent on artistic talent which captured the judges’ attention and caused all of us to reflect on the topic. For 14 years in a row St. Agnes School has had 100% participation in the contest. The contest has created an increased awareness among the youth of problems with alcohol & drug abuse, and at the same time, the youth carry the word to others of their own age, in their own language. Each winner received a gift certificate presented by Elizabeth Jensen, Principal of St. Agnes School. Throughout the years over 100 - $50 savings bonds have been awarded to the youth. Contest winners include Emmaline Dowd, Ruairi Mann, Sydney Arbelo, Catherine Staley, Thomas Schueter, Sophie Dowd, Joseph Hayes, and Colleen Talty. Honorable Mention went to Vivanne Boor, Eden Latuik, Maril Dambra, Elizabeth Caizzo, Kennedy Guhman, Caroline Hayes, Ellen Burke, Olivia Caiazzo, and Angel Rangel-Garcia.
Photo Caption: Front row: Emmaline Dowd, Ruairi Mann, Sydney Arbelo, Catherine Staley, Thomas Schueter, Sophie Dowd, and Joseph Hayes; not pictured Colleen Talty. Back row: Mrs. Elizabeth Jensen - Principal St. Agnes School, Donald A. Alternate Judges not pictured are Mr. Kevin W. Dougherty, Morgan Hellquist Art Director - St. Agnes School, Mrs. Christine DeVito - St. Agnes Church Youth Ministry.
I also wish to thank Elizabeth Jensen Principal, St. Agnes School, along with everyone at St. Agnes School & Church for their support, promotion and encouragement with students to participate. Congratulations on 100% participation from St. Agnes School for grades 3, 4, 5, & 6. I am very proud of you, your teachers and staff.
A special thank you with sincere appreciation to My final words at the awards ceremony were those who have helped with the Alcohol and Drug “Today you are our youth. Tomorrow you are the leaders Awareness and Abuse Poster Contest and to Rev. of our community and you are our fight against the Michael Fowler - Parochial Administrator, ever-present epidemic of substance abuse.” St. Agnes School, who without your dedication, participation in this program would not exist. May your efforts be an encouragement to all, especially programs like this to come.

DID YOU KNOW? Halitosis, or bad breath as it’s commonly known, can result from any number of factors. While food can be a culprit, some additional factors may be contributing to mouth odor as well. Poor dental hygiene is a particular concern. According to Colgate and the American Dental Association, failure to brush and floss teeth regularly leads to the accumulation of food particles in the mouth. This food can collect bacteria and begin to break down, causing a bad aroma. Dry mouth is another condition that causes bad breath. Without adequate saliva production, particles of food that may cause odor are not swept away regularly. Bad breath also may be an indication of a medical condition elsewhere in the body. Upper respiratory infections and gastrointestinal disturbances may contribute to halitosis.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Statins Are No Match for Cheeseburgers --DEAR DR. ROACH: My son is 53, and three years ago he had three stents put in due to clogged arteries. His cardiologist put him on Lipitor at 80 mg. I don’t know if this is necessary. I worry that it might do more harm than good. -- J.K. ANSWER: In people with blockages in the arteries in their hearts, there is really no doubt that medications like atorvastatin (Lipitor), a statin drug, reduce the risk of heart attack. Although they can have side effects, for most people the benefit far outweighs the risks. It’s important to recall that even a powerful medication like a statin can’t optimally treat people if they don’t treat themselves right. Years ago, I had a patient who was doing well after his bypass surgery and was taking a statin with good results. Walking through the hospital cafeteria, I saw him eating a triple cheeseburger (why the cafeteria even sold such a thing is a separate question), and he sheepishly argued that he was taking his statin. A statin can’t beat a triple cheeseburger. Good cardiac health requires a good diet of mostly plants, with whole grains, nuts, fruits and fish included for people who choose to. Exercise is the other important part of the treatment, and just plain walking is nearly as good as any exercise. Medication, though of benefit, is just a small part of a healthy lifestyle and preventing heart disease, which, although rates are decreasing, is still the leading cause of death in industrialized countries. READERS: Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer. The booklet on clogged heart arteries explains why they happen and what can be done to prevent clogging. Readers can obtain a copy by writing: Dr. Roach -- No. 101W, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. Enclose a check or money order (no cash) for $4.75 U.S./$6 Canada with the recipient’s printed name and address. Please allow four weeks for delivery. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 77-year-old male. I have really been shedding the hair on my arms and legs. Is this normal for a man of my age? I have been taking hydrocodone and simvastatin, along with the usual vitamin supplements. Could the medications or supplements that I am taking have anything to do with my hair loss? Could it be my diet, or is it just old age? -- R.C. ANSWER: Hair loss on the arms and legs is less common than on the scalp. Hormonal changes (especially thyroid and testosterone) and medications can be the culprit. A myriad of skin diseases can do it, but these usually have visible skin changes associated. Chronic swelling (edema) of the extremities might be the cause. Simvastatin has rarely been associated with hair loss. However, when I see hair loss on the lower extremities, I worry about peripheral artery disease, which is very common and underdiagnosed. Being on simvastatin suggests that you have had high cholesterol, which is a risk factor for PAD. Having hair loss on both arms and legs, however, makes me more concerned about a systemic cause. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. Ergonomic gardening techniques can make gardening less taxing Gardening is a popular activity that seems to be gaining even more supporters. Statistics reports that the number of people who gardened within the last 12 months in the United States rose from around 105 million in 2008 to 118 million in 2017. Gardening can be relaxing yet physically demanding work. Gardeners who find themselves battling aches and pains after spending time in the garden may need to make a greater effort to reduce injuries and improve comfort when tilling, weeding or installing new landscape features. Ergonomic gardening techniques and tools can help gardeners reduce their risk of injury and make gardening more comfortable. Warm up Just as novice athletes wouldn’t dive right into a strenuous workout at the gym, nor should novice gardeners immediately pick up a shovel and jump into digging a hole for their new tree. Gardening requires bending, stooping, lifting, twisting, and other movements that work the entire body. Spending 10 or more minutes stretching, walking and doing a few back and arm rotations can limber the body up for the physical activity to come. Use proper form Think about the mechanics of lifting weights during a workout, as home and garden tasks may mimic movements made when exercising. The occupational therapists at Bend Spinal Care say that strain on the lower back can be reduced by positioning objects close to the body and its center of gravity when lifting them. Furthermore, people can contract their abdominal (core) muscles when lifting and bending to support the back. When lifting heavy objects, power should be derived from the legs and buttocks rather than the back.
Keep items close Keeping work closer to the body will reduce the need for stooping, leaning or reaching, which should cut down on pulled muscles. Long-handled tools can help minimize reaching. Use step ladders to reach high areas or get down on padded cushions to work closer to the ground. This alleviates strain to the neck from having to look up or down for extended periods of time. Raised garden beds can bring plants to a person’s level. The therapists at ProCare Physical Therapy say that working below shoulder level whenever possible can prevent shoulder strains; otherwise, perform tasks for no more than five minutes at a time. Invest in new tools Cushioned grips and grip handles can prevent wrist fatigue, as can hand tools that keep wrists straight to improve strength and reduce repetitive motion injuries. Long-handled tools and push mowers should be as tall as the person using them. Seek out tools that keep the body in natural positions to maximize efficiency. Even though gardening is viewed as a relaxing pastime, the work involved can be taxing on the body. Ergonomic tools and proper form can keep injuries at bay.

There are plenty of animals out there that are just as worthy! • The science is available, why not use it! • I don’t have to worry about making this decision, the cost is way too much for my budget! Dirt and noise: Homeowners can count on dust, debris and noise throughout the renovation process. Dust appears when walls come down or go up, and construction teams typically erect temporary walls or tarps to contain the debris. Air filtering systems also can limit dust particles. Noise is unavoidable. If it becomes troublesome, arrange to be outside of the home when the bulk of the construction is taking place.

WHAT TO DO WHEN A PROJECT STALLS Be mindful of permits. Some home improvement projects require permits, and these permits often have expiration dates. Homeowners must keep permits in mind when projects start to stall, recognizing that they may need to reapply for permits if projects go unfinished for especially long periods of time.
