DID YOU KNOW? Traffic can be bad for your health and also bad for your car. According to a University of Surrey study published in Science Daily, pollution levels inside of cars were found to be 40 percent higher while sitting in traffic jams or at red lights compared to levels in free-flowing traffic. The World Health Organization considers interior car pollution one of the top 10 health risks faced by humans. Health implications are not the only hazard posed by traffic jams. Stop-and-go traffic also takes its toll on vehicles. When idling, engine ventilation systems are at their weakest, warns Road and Travel. As a result, acidic combustion products and incompletely burned fuel in the engine can start to form engine deposits. Over time, such deposits may clog fuel injectors and interfere with the flow of fuel to the combustion chamber. Traffic can age vehicle engines and their braking systems. Using brake fluid and oils for extreme driving conditions may help prevent some damage. Avoiding rush hour is another way to improve personal health and safeguard the condition of the vehicle.

Line rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. In medium-sized skillet over medium heat, add apple butter, maple syrup, red pepper flakes, salt and paprika. Once all shrimp have been wrapped, baste tops with apple butter mixture. Bake 5 minutes then flip and baste other side of shrimp. Bake another 5 minutes. Continue to flip and baste shrimp (2 minutes each time) until shrimp is fully cooked. Do not overcook as glaze can burn. Sprinkle with cilantro, if desired.

I would like to thank the woman who found my wallet at the Victor Target store on Wednesday afternoon, March 7th. After paying for my purchases, I thought I dropped my wallet back into my purse, but without me realizing it, I missed and it fell to the floor. I was told the honest woman in line behind me turned it in, completely intact. I was home for a while before realizing my wallet was missing, and panic set in. What a relief when told Target had it in their locked cabinet. I can't thank you enough for being honest and turning my wallet over to customer service. Whoever you are, I am eternally grateful to you. Thank you to the Target employees who kept it secured until I could retrieve it. Bless all of you.
I’d like to respond to the venter who was complaining about recycling in an "upscale neighborhood" making the area a "mess." HOW can you complain about a natural phenomenon over which people have no control?! Send all your hot air up to the weather gods!! (BTW it's "incredible" NOT "incredulous").
Just after getting to a Doctor appointment for my Husband today (we are Seniors) my cairn terrier-support dog "J" got loose when the plastic snap on his collar came apart. J took off running through the Henrietta Park area with me chasing after him. J wasn't slowing down and he then ran across Calkins Road. I would still be trying to find and catch J if it weren't for "Sam and Cory of the Town of Henrietta" who came to my aid, caught and saved J. Thank you so very much Sam and Cory!!! God Bless You! I will pay it forward. Anna and J I want to thank my wonderful neighbors from the farm on
I travel up and down [local road] many times since I have family in [local town]. I had to stop a few times for the ducks that cross the road to get to the water on the other side. I watch for them every time I drive that way. My heart was broken when I saw one had gotten hit. Ducks do not fly away like other birds do. They waddle away. If you cannot stop or slow down for these beautiful creatures then you should not drive. I have stopped for all kinds of animals since I am an animal lover and we must share this earth with them. Please have a heart and watch out for the ducks. In a craft store the other night, a severely ill child was shopping for club project materials with Mom. Kid
Cadyville Rd. in Livonia. Every snowfall they send someone over to plow my very long driveway. During this last snowfall they were out there at 6am plowing so I could get to work on time. It is neighbors like that, that create a wonderful neighborhood to live in. Thank you so much. Thank you to all of the drivers who stopped to check on me after my car went off the road after encountering unexpectedly snowy roads in Lima over the weekend. It was heartwarming to see how many people took the time to make sure I was okay. And special thanks to the gentleman in the red pickup truck who was able
to tow my car out of the snow bank. Thank you again for taking the time to help!!!!
coughed at least 100 times most without covering mouth in the 20 minutes they were in the store. I counted 75 coughs after about 5 minutes of this while I cowered in back of store waiting for them to leave. I know it is important for a child to pick out their own supplies for projects, but the child clearly was not well enough shop in public yet. If he absolutely had to be there, kid needed a mask and proper instruction on covering cough Dracula style. Exposed fellow shoppers and employees to whatever illness child had. This is how severe illness spreads needlessly. Please be considerate of others by staying home or covering yourself with a mask if you must go out when ill.
Don't assume that your 'daytime running lights' include your taillights. Even on many of the newer vehicles, the back end of your vehicle is NOT illuminated, unless you physically turn your DRIVING lights on. Cars in this morning's fog were nearly invisible from behind; same thing happens in the rain and snow. EASY FIX? Drive with your lights on all the time, the cost of replacing them a little more often is more than offset by increasing your visibility and safety. Just because YOU can see doesn't mean other drivers can see you, especially if their windows are dirty.
Thank you to whoever found and turned in a gold hoop earring at The Dollar Store in Batavia. It has been reunited with its mate. Your honesty is appreciated by its grateful owner!

SUNDAY, APRIL 1ST 260 BECKWITH RD., W. HENRIETTA RIDGELAND COMMUNITY CHURCH PALM SUNDAY
fo rEA
On what is now called “Palm Sunday,” Jesus Christ rode a donkey into Jerusalem while villagers welcomed him and waved palm branches. This is mentioned in each of the Biblical Gospels and occurs a week before His subsequent resurrection. Jesus possibly rode a donkey rather than a horse as a sign of peace, as a war-waging king might ride a horse. The “Passion of the Christ” is typically read during Palm Sunday masses.

HOW TO AVOID THE COLD COMFORT OF A DRAFTY HOUSE For those who live in older homes, the transition to colder weather can be extra disheartening, as the vision of expensive heating bills, chilly rooms and drafty windows dance in their heads. However, it’s easy to change the outlook from cold to cozy with a few simple DIY solutions. The most effective way to improve the comfort level in your home is to properly insulate. Insulation can be inadequate in older homes. Over time, it can settle and compact, creating gaps. Topping up attic insulation will help keep the warm air in, reducing heating bills and preventing stress on your furnace. For easy installation, homeowners and professionals alike recommend a stone wool batt insulation. For attics, aim for an r-value of R-50 or a depth of 16 inches. A little preparation can go a long way to keep the cold at bay. Seal out drafts by replacing worn weatherstripping and caulking along windows, doors, baseboards, and trim. For other ways to beat the cold, consider inexpensive window insulation kits along with thicker drapes, and don’t forget to reverse ceiling fans to push warm air back down.
PROBLEMS THAT CAN LEAD TO LAWN DAMAGE Wildlife: Animals and insects can destroy turf roots. Animals or insects may feed on the grass from underneath its surface, compromising the lawn’s ability to procure nutrients and water. Animals like moles or raccoons may feed on grubs in the lawn, and treating for grubs can alleviate torn-up turf.

Excessive energy bills can be a concern in spring and summer, just as much as they are in the winter. So how can you save money while keeping your home cool? The solution is simple: Top up your attic insulation. A poorly insulated attic is a primary source of energy loss, forcing your AC unit to work harder than necessary over the warmer months. Most attics are insulated, but oftentimes the amount of insulation present is inadequate - especially in older homes. Over time, insulation can settle and compact, allowing heat to escape through gaps. Topping it up is easy. Ideally, you want to aim for a depth of 16 inches of insulation for an overall R-value of 50. When existing insulation is present, simply level existing insulation to the top of the joist. Lay a fireand moisture-resistant batt insulation, like Roxul Comfortbatt, on top of joists, running perpendicular to the first layer. Ensure batts are butted against each other tightly. Fit batts closely to cross joists; cut batt if necessary (this can be done easily with a serrated blade or bread knife) and leave no space between layers. Don’t forget to insulate the attic hatch to the same level as the rest of the attic. Apply weather-stripping to the edge of the hatch to reduce air leakage. Keep in mind that only IC-rated electrical fixtures can have insulation placed with zero clearance. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and local building code to insulate around the chimney. When a house is insulated properly, energy savings can add up over time. Remember, insulation starts working the moment it is installed and can last for the life of the building.

SHADE-TOLERANT PLANTS COMPLETE LANDSCAPES Plants need sunlight to thrive and grow, but some need less sunlight than others. People who find their landscapes are less supportive to sun-loving plants can choose from a variety of shade-tolerant plants, shrubs and trees. Shade tolerance refers to a plant’s ability to withstand low levels of light. Certain plants have adapted this feature to survive in the wild. Plants that grow at the base of forest floors, for example, will get less sunlight than others outside of the tree canopy. Such adaptations enable a wide variety of foliage to grow even though they are not exposed to much sunlight. While sun-loving plants often have broad leaves and expend significant energy to capture sunlight for photosynthesis, shade-tolerant plants expend less energy and tend to be more efficient consumers of soil nutrients and sunlight. Penn State Extension’s Plant and Pests division says the amount of shade a plant is growing under will directly affect the density of the foliage and the plant’s flowering and fruiting characteristics. Blending shade-tolerant plants into the landscape can be an effective use of space. Before choosing plants for an existing landscape, it’s important to assess the level of shade or sun the plants will receive. Once homeowners understand which type of shade they are dealing with, they can then visit plant nurseries and select their plants. Most greenery comes with care instructions that include recommendations regarding the amount of shade/sunlight the plant will need to do well. If further assistance is needed, a knowledgeable employee can make suggestions based on landscape needs. Shade-tolerant plants can make welcome additions to the landscape, offering greenery and color in the darker areas of a property.

CONSIDERATIONS WHEN CHOOSING CARPETING Padding can impact the way carpeting feels and how long it lasts. It isn’t always necessary to purchase the most expensive or thickest padding. However, it is wise to pick a pad that matches the type of carpeting you’re selecting and one that aligns with how you plan to use the room. You may be able to go with a thinner pad in low-traffic rooms and beneath dense carpeting like berber. In high-traffic rooms, choose a thicker, more durable padding. Padding prevents carpet backing and fibers from coming apart over time. It pays to invest in a padding that will last as well.

AVOID ACHES AND PAINS WHEN GARDENING Use ergonomic gardening tools. Ergonomic gardening tools are designed to prevent the types of aches, pains and injuries that can cut gardeners’ seasons short. Gardening injuries can affect any area of the body, but injuries or aches and pains affecting the back, wrists and hands are among the most common physical problems gardeners endure. Look for ergonomic tools that reduce the strain on these areas of the body. Even arthritis sufferers who love to garden may find that ergonomic tools make it possible for them to spend more time in their gardens without increasing their risk for injury.

FRESHEN UP YOUR HOM E FOR THE SPRING SEASON Give rugs and floors a deep cleaning. Recirculated air may be full of dust and other microscopic particles that end up blow ing throughout your home. Also, it’s easy to track in dirt and other materials on your shoes that become imbedded in carpeting. At least once a year, rent or enlist the surfaces of carpet and upholstery cleaners to give floors a thorough cleaning. You may be surprised at how clean and fresh a home looks and smells once rugs and carpets are deep-cleaned. You also can make a dry carpet cleaner using baking soda, corn starch and desired fresh herbs for fragrance. Sprinkle and then vacuum up after a few hours.

DID YOU KNOW? Hiring a landscape architect may be a smart move for homeowners who are planning major overhauls of their properties. “The Operational Outlook Handbook” defines a landscape architect as “a person who designs parks, outdoor spaces of campuses, recreational facilities, private homes, and other open areas.” Landscape architects typically must be licensed and many hold degrees in landscape architecture from accredited schools. Architects who work on residential spaces often work with homeowners to design gardens, plantings, stormwater management, and pools. Landscape architects design spaces to do more than merely look good. Designs also are about functionality and meeting the needs of the homeowner. Outdoor spaces are designed after considering what the homeowner wants to experience and how homeowners want to use a given space. Landscape architects often do not plant and maintain these spaces. Rather, architects collaborate with other landscaping professionals to produce the final results.

1. Following the instructions on the package, thaw the puff pastry. This will take 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the type of pastry. You should be able to unfold it without it breaking. Set aside. 2. Pulse the turkey in a food processor until it is the consistency of ground beef. Add 2 of the eggs, the chicken stock, the Marsala, and the butter. Pulse again briefly, until just combined. 3. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface until it is a 12- or 13-inch square. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the pastry on top. 4. Form the minced turkey mixture into a log and position it down the center of the prepared puff pastry. Make an indentation down the length of the turkey and place the celery, mushrooms, and cranberry chutney along the indentation. Cover the indentation with the meat, forming a log once again. 5. Wrap the puff pastry around the turkey, neatly folding the ends and top together, rolling or tucking the edges together, and pinching to seal any gaps. Make the pastrycovered log as round as possible, like a Yule log — try to avoid a flattened version, like a strudel. 6. Preheat the oven to 450 F. 7. Combine the remaining egg with 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl or cup. Stir well until completely mixed. Brush the roulade with the egg wash, being careful to brush every bit of the exposed pastry. 8. Bake for 10 minutes at 450 F, then reduce the heat to 375 F. Continue to bake for 30 to 45 minutes longer, until the pastry has risen and is a toasty, golden color and the turkey has reached an internal temperature of 165 F. Generally speaking, once the pastry has cooked, the meat will be cooked, too. Remove the roulade from the oven. Transfer it to a serving platter, using the parchment paper to help you. Allow to rest for about 10 minutes. 9. Slice and serve, garnishing with the parsley and served with a bowl of extra cranberry chutney.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE CALLING JOYCE TODAY? SOUND CONTROL KEY TO A CALM, RELAXING HOME Inside and out, life can be loud. Retreat from the hustle and bustle of the world by making your home, or specific rooms within it, a calm, relaxing sanctuary. There’s a room in every house that could benefit from greater sound control, whether it’s a home theater, music room, studio, home office, children’s play room, bathroom, mechanical, or laundry room. Insulating properly will allow you to really enjoy your home that much more and achieve a higher level of comfort. Experts suggest selecting a dense insulation with a non-directional fiber structure to combat airborne noise such as music, speech and foot traffic. This insulation material creates an excellent sound barrier that effectively absorbs noise and reduces the transfer of sound waves from one room to another. Its resistance to fire is an added benefit that also adds passive fire protection to your home, a type of fire precaution that is part of the core of the building and will help control fire by limiting its spread. Certain sound dampening measures, such as carpeting, might also help alleviate echo and reverberation, as will acoustic panels that prevent sound reflections throughout a room. With basic DIY skills, you can simply and affordably construct your own acoustic panels using a stone wool rigid board which is effective at reducing the intensity and propagation of noise.

PENNY SAVER ONLINE POLL:
Who is the Longest Living Henrietta Resident?
We have heard a lot about the cloning of animals recently from Barbra Streisand’s beloved pet dog to Adolfo Cambiaso’s champion polo pony. What do you think about the practice of cloning animals as a way to get exactly the animal that you want? • Don’t mess with Mother Nature! There are plenty of animals out there that are just as worthy! • The science is available, why not use it! • I don’t have to worry about making this decision, the cost is way too much for my budget! Poll Ends: 03/27/18 Vote at: www.gvpennysaver.com Poll Results: 03/20/18 How do you think our youth are influenced by video games? • They are just games and do not encourage violent behavior in youth. – 15.4% • Games that focus on shooting the opponent make our youth believe that this is the way to overcome tough situations. – 46.1% • More research needs to be done to fully understand the impact. – 38.5%
The search is on for the person who has lived in Henrietta longer than anyone else. As part of the Town’s 200 Year Anniversary Celebration, the Bicentennial Committee is currently trying to find that person who has called Henrietta home the longest. This special resident will be honored at the Bicentennial Kick-Off Party on Friday, April 20th. The event will be held at the Recreation Center, 605 Calkins Road from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. April 20th is a significant date in town history as it marks 200 years to the day that the first Henrietta Town Board meeting was held in 1818.
If you would like to claim this distinction or recommend someone as Henrietta’s longest living resident please visit henriettabicentennial.org/ new-page. Please complete and submit the form for consideration. Other events at the Kick-Off Party include an historic skit directed by Betty Miller, the opening of a 25 year old time capsule which includes a letter from former Supervisor James Breese and much more. Tickets for the party as well as a complete list of Bicentennial events in 2018 are available at henriettabicentennial.org.

at the new Wadsworth Event Center 1211 West River Rd., Caledonia, NY Preowned Items Can Be Good For The Environment Visit consignment stores: Consignment shops and Goodwill(R) stores are popular places to buy preowned items. These stores take donations or offer items for sale on consignment, which means once sold the person who provided the item gets a portion of the sale. When browsing the racks of these stores, it’s possible to discover highend items mixed in with less expensive items. Shoppers may find designer handbags and clothing for much less than they would sell at retail, especially if the pieces are one or two seasons old. Relying on these stores to supplement classic wardrobe pieces is cost-effective and beneficial to the environment. If you regularly shop consignment stores, you can develop a rapport with the shopkeeper, who may alert you when new items are available.

DID YOU KNOW? Halitosis, or bad breath as it’s commonly known, can result from any number of factors. While food can be a culprit, some additional factors may be contributing to mouth odor as well. Poor dental hygiene is a particular concern. According to Colgate and the American Dental Association, failure to brush and floss teeth regularly leads to the accumulation of food particles in the mouth. This food can collect bacteria and begin to break down, causing a bad aroma. Dry mouth is another condition that causes bad breath. Without adequate saliva production, particles of food that may cause odor are not swept away regularly. Bad breath also may be an indication of a medical condition elsewhere in the body. Upper respiratory infections and gastrointestinal disturbances may contribute to halitosis.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Statins Are No Match for Cheeseburgers --DEAR DR. ROACH: My son is 53, and three years ago he had three stents put in due to clogged arteries. His cardiologist put him on Lipitor at 80 mg. I don’t know if this is necessary. I worry that it might do more harm than good. -- J.K. ANSWER: In people with blockages in the arteries in their hearts, there is really no doubt that medications like atorvastatin (Lipitor), a statin drug, reduce the risk of heart attack. Although they can have side effects, for most people the benefit far outweighs the risks. It’s important to recall that even a powerful medication like a statin can’t optimally treat people if they don’t treat themselves right. Years ago, I had a patient who was doing well after his bypass surgery and was taking a statin with good results. Walking through the hospital cafeteria, I saw him eating a triple cheeseburger (why the cafeteria even sold such a thing is a separate question), and he sheepishly argued that he was taking his statin. A statin can’t beat a triple cheeseburger. Good cardiac health requires a good diet of mostly plants, with whole grains, nuts, fruits and fish included for people who choose to. Exercise is the other important part of the treatment, and just plain walking is nearly as good as any exercise. Medication, though of benefit, is just a small part of a healthy lifestyle and preventing heart disease, which, although rates are decreasing, is still the leading cause of death in industrialized countries. READERS: Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer. The booklet on clogged heart arteries explains why they happen and what can be done to prevent clogging. Readers can obtain a copy by writing: Dr. Roach -- No. 101W, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. Enclose a check or money order (no cash) for $4.75 U.S./$6 Canada with the recipient’s printed name and address. Please allow four weeks for delivery. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 77-year-old male. I have really been shedding the hair on my arms and legs. Is this normal for a man of my age? I have been taking hydrocodone and simvastatin, along with the usual vitamin supplements. Could the medications or supplements that I am taking have anything to do with my hair loss? Could it be my diet, or is it just old age? -- R.C. ANSWER: Hair loss on the arms and legs is less common than on the scalp. Hormonal changes (especially thyroid and testosterone) and medications can be the culprit. A myriad of skin diseases can do it, but these usually have visible skin changes associated. Chronic swelling (edema) of the extremities might be the cause. Simvastatin has rarely been associated with hair loss. However, when I see hair loss on the lower extremities, I worry about peripheral artery disease, which is very common and underdiagnosed. Being on simvastatin suggests that you have had high cholesterol, which is a risk factor for PAD. Having hair loss on both arms and legs, however, makes me more concerned about a systemic cause. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. HEALTHY COOKING TECHNIQUES Invest in new cookware. Choose nonstick cookware that will reduce the amount of oil, spray and butter needed to keep foods from sticking. Manufacturers are now touting ceramic cookware, which is free of trace metals or dangerous chemicals that can leach into food from the cooking surface. What’s more, pots and pans don’t contain chemical coatings that can eventually flake off into food.

Your Ergonomic gardening techniques can make gardening less taxing Gardening is a popular activity that seems to be gaining even more supporters. Statistics reports that the number of people who gardened within the last 12 months in the United States rose from around 105 million in 2008 to 118 million in 2017. Gardening can be relaxing yet physically demanding work. Gardeners who find themselves battling aches and pains after spending time in the garden may need to make a greater effort to reduce injuries and improve comfort when tilling, weeding or installing new landscape features. Ergonomic gardening techniques and tools can help gardeners reduce their risk of injury and make gardening more comfortable. Warm up Just as novice athletes wouldn’t dive right into a strenuous workout at the gym, nor should novice gardeners immediately pick up a shovel and jump into digging a hole for their new tree. Gardening requires bending, stooping, lifting, twisting, and other movements that work the entire body. Spending 10 or more minutes stretching, walking and doing a few back and arm rotations can limber the body up for the physical activity to come. Use proper form Think about the mechanics of lifting weights during a workout, as home and garden tasks may mimic movements made when exercising. The occupational therapists at Bend Spinal Care say that strain on the lower back can be reduced by positioning objects close to the body and its center of gravity when lifting them. Furthermore, people can contract their abdominal (core) muscles when lifting and bending to support the back. When lifting heavy objects, power should be derived from the legs and buttocks rather than the back.
The Most Treatable Serious Senior Health Issue: Loneliness Here are some tactics to help seniors combat loneliness: • Get moving. Physical exercise increases the body’s level of “feel good” hormones, and can contribute to improved sleep, as well as fewer aches and pains. Seniors should get 30 minutes of moderately intense exercise per day, and if you exercise with companions, you’re also reaping the social benefits of the activity. • Sit down with a friend or family member and watch a funny movie or TV show together. Laughter’s positive effects on the mind and body are well documented. Laughing together improves mood and can make people feel more connected. • Make new connections. Sit with someone at lunch whom you don’t know well. Ask a neighbor to go for a walk with you. Join a club or social organization. • Help yourself feel better by helping others. Volunteering has many positive effects on mental health. When you volunteer your time to help others, you’ll feel good about your actions and also expand your opportunities to meet new people. • Learn something new - it’s not only good for cognitive health, it gives you the chance to make new connections with other students. Take a craft class, go to a personal finance seminar or take a cooking class.
Keep items close Keeping work closer to the body will reduce the need for stooping, leaning or reaching, which should cut down on pulled muscles. Long-handled tools can help minimize reaching. Use step ladders to reach high areas or get down on padded cushions to work closer to the ground. This alleviates strain to the neck from having to look up or down for extended periods of time. Raised garden beds can bring plants to a person’s level. The therapists at ProCare Physical Therapy say that working below shoulder level whenever possible can prevent shoulder strains; otherwise, perform tasks for no more than five minutes at a time. Invest in new tools Cushioned grips and grip handles can prevent wrist fatigue, as can hand tools that keep wrists straight to improve strength and reduce repetitive motion injuries. Long-handled tools and push mowers should be as tall as the person using them. Seek out tools that keep the body in natural positions to maximize efficiency. Even though gardening is viewed as a relaxing pastime, the work involved can be taxing on the body. Ergonomic tools and proper form can keep injuries at bay.

624-4895 EFFICIENCY AT WORK Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that the average worker spent 26 minutes traveling to work, the most recent year for which the USCB has data. That marks a nearly 20 percent increase in average commute time since 1980. Things aren’t much better in Canada, where the National Household Survey found that the average commuter spends just over 25 minutes traveling to work each day. People who commute via public transportation can use the time they spend going to and from the office to answer emails, review schedules or even work on projects. Commuters who drive themselves to work can consider switching to public transportation or, if possible, move closer to their offices so they spend less time sitting in their vehicles, where they have no choice but to be unproductive.

WAYS ESTABLISHED PROFESSIONALS CAN IMPROVE THEIR RÉSUMÉS Rather than emphasize what you did, highlight what you plan to do. This means giving greater weight to the expertise that will translate into your new position. Chances are you can find skills that you honed in one or more jobs that translate into credentials that can be used on another. All of the skills mentioned should be relevant to your career objective and not just added to pad the résumé. Therefore, unless your brief stint waiting tables exemplifies how you developed customer service skills, eliminate it.

HOW TO NEGOTIATE (AND GET) A SALARY INCREASE Give yourself a confidence boost. Going into negotiations feeling grateful to accept anything is the wrong tactic. Sell your skills to yourself first before you share them with a boss. Make a list of why you deserve a raise and then back up those points with clear examples. Include past successful projects, your developing skill set, software experience, education, training, and anything else that boosts your résumé.
