Sift the flour into a large bowl and make a well in the center. Pour in the yeast mixture, egg yolks, olive oil, and salt. Mix until the dough comes together. Tip out onto a lightly floured work surface. Wash and dry your hands. Knead the dough for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. It should be quite soft, but if it’s too soft to handle, add more flour. Place in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel, and let rise until doubled in size - about 1 hour.

weight before special events such as weddings or vacations. While many people do so in healthy ways, others take their weight loss efforts to the extreme. For example, many brides-to-be aspire to shed excess weight before their weddings so they can look as slim as possibly in their wedding gowns. The New York Times even reported in 2012 on a bride who spent eight days on a feeding tube to strictly limit calories so she could fit into her wedding dress. Such efforts are dangerous and could put individuals’ long-term health in serious jeopardy. Healthy weight loss for any occasion requires a long lead time, so that individuals can safely shed between one and two pounds per week with a healthy mix of diet and exercise, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Trimming between 500 and 1,000 calories per day from their diets can help individuals lose weight safely.

Inflammation can affect anyone, and those who have battled it likely have nothing positive to say. But while few people may associate inflammation with something good, inflammation is actually a process by which the body’s white blood cells and the substances those cells produce protect the body from infection at the hands of bacteria, viruses and other foreign organisms. While inflammation is protective by nature, sometimes an inflammatory response is triggered by mistake. When that happens, the body’s immune system, which is designed to protect the body, begins to damage its own tissues. The resulting symptoms of this faulty immune system response may include joint pain, joint stiffness, loss of function in the joints, and swelling of the joints. None of those symptoms are comfortable, and people suffering from them may be on the lookout for ways to alleviate their pain and suffering. While anyone battling persistent inflammation should speak with their physicians to explore their treatment options, a preliminary search of how to best treat inflammation will no doubt turn up information about heat therapy and cold therapy.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.

COPD Lung Function Can’t be Restored

Dr. Jennifer J. Dotterweich, Optometrist

---

DEAR DR. ROACH: I read your recent column on pulmonary fibrosis. I especially appreciate knowing that there are medications known to slow the progression of lung disease, reduce exacerbations and reduce mortality. With a 20-year-old diagnosis of COPD and having been prescribed medications to reduce exacerbations, you might imagine my interest in your article. I’m wondering how pulmonary fibrosis differs from COPD and if the two medications that you mention (pirfenidone and nintedanib) might be helpful in slowing the progression of lung disease in patients such as myself. Have any studies been completed using these medications on patients with COPD? -- S.A. ANSWER: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -- its two main forms are emphysema and chronic bronchitis -- usually, but not invariably, is a result of long-term exposure to lung toxins, especially smoke. In the most common case of COPD, due to cigarette smoking (at least, that’s the most common in North America and Europe: cooking fires are still a common cause in less developed countries), stopping the exposure will dramatically slow down further damage. Unfortunately, there are no established treatments that can restore lung function in people with moderate to advanced COPD. Pulmonary fibrosis is, by contrast, a rare disease; about 30,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed each year (compare that with the 9 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with chronic bronchitis last year). The exact mechanism of action of pirfenidone and nintedanib is not known, but they are not thought to be effective in COPD. Surprisingly, I did not find a published trial looking at whether these drugs might be effective. The need for new therapies to treat COPD is so great that I would have thought some researcher might have tried it, despite the long odds.

243 East Main St., Avon, NY 14414 585-226-3400 visionsource-livingstoneyecare.com RECOGNIZE AND AVOID YOUTH SPORTS INJURIES Growth plate injuries: Kids Health says growth plates are the areas of growing tissue near the ends of the long bones in the legs and arms in children and adolescents. A growth plate produces new bone tissue. If the growth plate is injured, it cannot do its job properly. That may contribute to deformed bones, shorter limbs or arthritis. Growth plate injuries most often result from falling or twisting. While there’s no surefire way to prevent growth plate injuries, getting proper and immediate care after an injury can help prevent future problems. An orthopedic surgeon has the expertise to diagnose and treat these injuries.

Feral Cat Colony Getting Out of Hand

Send us a photo and brief write-up of your pet and we’ll feature it. Email to: sales@gvpennysaver.com or mail to: P.O. Box 340; Avon, 14414. Pets will be published at discretion of GVPS.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: We have a number of feral cats living in the wooded area behind our house. I know that these cats normally can’t be acclimated to indoor living, but watching their colony expand isn’t desirable, either. So I’d like to get them to a vet and have them spayed or neutered, and either rehome them somehow or release them again. Any tips on doing this? — Sharon in Atlanta DEAR SHARON: The most common and probably most effective way to catch feral cats is to trap them one at a time using a live trap. They are available at hardware and home-improvement stores, at some pet stores or online. Before starting, find out if there is a feral cat rescue organization in your area. In Atlanta, the nonprofit LifeLine Animal Project may be able to loan you traps, as well as provide sterilization services. Otherwise, contact the veterinarian you plan to work with and make sure he or she is OK with treating, spaying and neutering the cats, and find out the prices in advance.

Why Hidden Pet Fence? Our fence works past the line where other systems only work at the line! That’s why we offer a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE and it works on small & large breeds.

Depending on laws in your area and on who owns the woods behind your property, you may only be able to set the traps on your property. If the feral cats don’t visit regularly, you’ll first need to lure them using food they’re attracted to. When they come around looking for this food, set up the live trap.

Endless Boundary - Works on ALL Dogs We Service ALL Invisible Fence® Brand Systems

Trap, neuter and release (TNR) programs typically release the treated cats back into their home territory, as relocation often doesn’t work. Expect the cats you trap to continue their lives in the woods — with the realization that the colony likely won’t grow over time.

EXPLORING SOLAR ELECTRICITY Solar electricity is generated through a process known as the photovoltaic affect. Sunlight shines on solar panels, which are mounted on the roof of the home or in another prominent location. Each panel typically has between 60 to 72 solar cells strung together. These photovoltaic cells use the irradiation in sunlight to stimulate the flow of electrons in the semiconductor material, which creates direct current, or DC, electricity. Systems that directly convert the DC to alternating current, or AC, the type of power voltage used in a house, do so by way of an inverter. The inverter feeds power to the circuit board.

BENEFITS OF HIRING PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTORS Inspiration: One oft-overlooked benefit of working with professional contractors is the likelihood that they can draw up ideas for projects that homeowners might otherwise never have thought up on their own. Homeowners without specific ideas in mind can ask contractors to come up with various scenarios before committing to a particular one. Veteran contractors can draw on years of experience to create designs that DIYers might be incapable of coming up with and/or incapable of seeing through to completion.

USES FOR FALLEN LEAVES Gather a few of the best-looking leaves and preserve them. Use an iron on a low setting and press leaves between two pieces of waxed paper until the waxed paper seals together. Or use clear contact paper to achieve the same effect.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * Doctors who perform laparoscopic surgery, which involves inserting a tiny camera into a patient’s body through a small incision, have better coordination if they play video games at least three hours per week. According to a 2003 study, gamer surgeons made 37% fewer errors and worked 27% faster than those whose only “video game” experience was the surgery itself.

Mulch leaves. Falling leaves are a telltale sign that winter is coming. In lieu of raking leaves as they begin to fall, homeowners can mulch them into their lawns. Scotts®, an industry leader in lawn care, notes that mulching leaves is a great way for homeowners to recycle a natural resource and enrich the soil of their lawns. While it might not be possible to mulch fallen leaves in late autumn when they begin to fall en masse, doing so in the early stages of fall should be possible so long as the lawn is not being suffocated. Scotts® recommends mulching the leaves to dime-size pieces to a point where half an inch of grass can be seen through the mulched leaf layer.

MAKE FALL CLEAN-UP ECO-FRIENDLY Rake leaves sensibly Power blowers and mulchers make fast work of leaves, but at the expense of the environment. Gas-powered devices discharge fuel exhaust into the air, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. Instead, reap the benefits of peace and quiet as well as exercise from manual raking. While raking, do not feel the need to remove every leaf. A certain amount of organic matter can be beneficial to the soil and even insulate the lawn somewhat. A leftover leaf here or there also may provide protection for insects and small animals. For example, many native bees spend the winter in tunnels in the ground, cracks in mortar, holes in dead wood, or within hollow stems, and they need lawn and garden litter to survive.

HOW TO CONSERVE WATER AT HOME

Snow blower repairs • Chain Sharpening $5/Chain New Chainsaw Chains $1/inch

Wash your car at a commercial car wash. Some vehicle owners may enjoy washing their cars at home in their driveways. But getting a car washed at a professional car wash can conserve substantial amounts of water. That’s because many new car wash facilities employ water reclamation systems that reuse water. According to San Diego Car Care, a professional car wash that employs water reclamation technology, each car washed at their facility consumes just nine to 15 gallons of water per wash. That’s a considerable savings compared to washing at home, as the State of Maryland’s Department of the Environment estimates that 100 gallons of water are consumed during a single 10-minute car wash at home using a garden hose. DID YOU KNOW?

Spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, is the most common cause of mortality in infants. According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, SMA is a motor neuron disease that affects the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system and voluntary muscle movement. WebMD notes that the severity of SMA varies widely, but the disease is known to weaken muscles and can cause difficulty eating, breathing and walking. In the past, infants diagnosed with SMA typically did not survive more than two years, but the MDA notes that doctors now prefer to avoid making rigid predictions on life expectancy based strictly on age of onset.

Lorraine “Lori” D. Callahan October 30, 2021

“Education is that which remains when one has forgotten everything he learned in school....” ~ Albert Einstein Obviously, Einstein was speaking of so-called higher education. Our basic primary schools teach us to read, write and calculate.... the foundation of all future learning.... and these skills cannot be underestimated. Perhaps the most important thing we learn as we advance in our studies is that we have much more to be learned. The more we learn, the more we appreciate the value and the power of knowledge. We learn that we can never know everything but we also learn that we can find out, from various sources, what we need to know. We recognize that there is sometimes a need for a non-traditional, minimum service. We can supply whatever a family desires at whatever price they feel to be appropriate.

James Louis Emery October 26, 2021 Livonia, NY/Summerville, SC: James L. Emery of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on October 26 at the age of 90. Jim was born in Lakeville, New York, to James and Ruth Emery and was the fifth of their six children. He graduated from Livonia Central School and attended the College of Business Administration of the University of Cincinnati. Following his college graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as 1st Lieutenant, where he served in the Military Police; he remained in the Air Force Reserves for many years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. After his stint in the Air Force, Jim returned to Lakeville and joined the Livingston County Sheriff ’s Department. He was appointed Undersheriff and became Sheriff, the youngest person ever to serve in that capacity in New York State. After 5 years as Sheriff, he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1965 and became the Minority Leader in 1979. In the Assembly, he fought to make sure that his constituents in Western New York had a voice in the state, and while always looking out for them, was able to work with other legislatures to get things accomplished for the good of the state. In 1982, he ran for Lieutenant Governor on the Republican ticket with gubernatorial candidate Louis Lehrman. After the election Jim was named the chairman of the New York State Republican Party. In 1983, President Ronald Reagan nominated Jim for the position of Administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, and he was confirmed by the Senate for that position in 1984 for a term of seven years. While with the Seaway, he expanded international trade throughout the Great Lakes. In 1991, Jim “retired” to the Carolinas, but could not get politics out of his system and remained as passionate as ever. He donated his vast knowledge and experience to numerous elected GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

officials and played an integral role in the reelection and election of several prominent Congressmen, State Legislators and a Governor. Very few could work a room and remember a name like Jim. He remained energetic throughout his life. In 1995, Jim met Sandi and the two spent the remainder of his life caring for each other and their numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim loved Summerville and instantly became involved in the community and especially their church, Bethany United Methodist Church. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Sandra (“Sandi”) Emery; sons, James L. Emery, Jr. (Mary Anne) and Jon S. Emery (Tammy); stepsons, Patrick (Leslie) Flanagan and Kevin Willard; stepdaughter, Kim Willard-Kinney; sister, Ruth H. Sidorowicz; grandchildren, Caitlin (Dominik) Mschenborn, Meghan, Annie, and Jacob Emery; stepgrandchildren, Houghton, Eliza, and Laney Flanagan; Thomas, Kyle, and Chase Kinney; Cody and Evangeline Willard; great-grandchildren, Levi Booth, Ayden Dhillon, and Maia Mschenborn; step-great-grandson, Jax Kinney; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was affectionately known as “Papa” to all his grandchildren. Jim was predeceased by his parents, two sisters and two brothers, stepson, Kemp Willard, and granddaughter, Bryna Emery. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1:00pm at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W 3rd St, Summerville, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Summerville Miracle League, Attn: Jim Emery Memorial Fund, PO Box 100, Summerville, SC 29484 or the Bethany United Methodist Church, Attn: Jim Emery Memorial Fund, 118 W 3rd St., Summerville, SC 29483.

TECH TO TAKE ALONG ON YOUR NEXT ROAD TRIP Road trips hold a special place in many people’s hearts. The open road and the freedoms it represents have been romanticized by writers and travelers since automobiles became accessible to the masses. While many drivers still take to the road looking for adventure, road trips have changed considerably since Jack Kerouac penned his seminal novel “On the Road” in the 1950s. The spirit of the open road is still there, but the way travelers approach road trips has changed considerably, most notably with regard to the technology that motorists now take along for the ride. Drivers about to embark on a road trip, whether it’s their first such venture or their fiftieth, can make trips even more enjoyable by taking along the right tech.

M aintain tire balance and alignment for a smooth ride Balancing tires involves equalizing the w eight of the combined tire and w heel assembly so that each tire spins smoothly on the road. Tires are mounted on the w heel assembly, and the chances of this assembly having precise w eight distribution is nearly impossible w ithout a little help. According to Discount Tire, the slightest imbalance in the tires, even as little as half an ounce, can be felt by drivers. Unequal mass can make tires w obble, causing noticeable vibrations. M echanics w ill test tire balance by putting it on a balancing machine. The machine w ill spin the tire and determine the tire’s heaviest point. Counteracting w eights w ill be placed on the tire hubs to create a more uniform balance of w eight. Lead w eights are often used, but some are being phased out for other metals, such as zinc, because of the medical and environmental implications of lead. Tires that are not balanced w ill not only cause vibration, they also can lead to uneven w ear.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles

Social Security Gets Big Benefits Bump The news is in. Our Social Security benefit for 2022 will increase by 5.9%, slightly less than the 6.1% estimate the government put out this summer. Still, that’s much greater than the 1.3% increase we saw for 2021 and the 1.6% the year before. The average monthly dollar increase will be $92, making the average benefit $1,657 per month for a single person. For a couple, a $154 increase would come to $2,753 per month. The official mail on the cost-of-living adjustment will come out in December. I’ve done my calculations for next year, and once again I shake my head. We’ve been notified already that I’ll have a rent increase. Heating fuel is likely to go up 47%. We all know what has happened at the grocery store. Medicare Part B is sure to go up, maybe a $10 per month increase. There is one worrying note, and we need to think about how it will play out for us individually. The question is: Will that increase move us into a higher tax bracket? It depends on our provisional income. That number is any income (pension, wages, dividends and more) not from Social Security, plus half the amount of Social Security. Those of us who come in under $25,000 won’t have a federal tax put on our Social Security. If that number is between $25,000 and $34,000, there will be a tax on half of our Social Security income. Over that and it goes up to a tax on 85% of our Social Security income. If your situation for 2022 is likely to put you in the category of having to pay taxes on your Social Security benefit, you can elect to have them take money out of your check each month. If you want to learn about that, call the IRS at 1-800-772-1213 and ask for IRS Form W-4V. (c) 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

This week’s puzzle answer is elsewhere in this paper. The Crossword Puzzle is provided by Tribune Media Services. Any questions or comments should be made to 1-800-346-8798. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

CASA-Trinity Opens Community Connection Center in Dansville BY AMY GESSI

C

ASA-Trinity, Inc. (Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse of Livingston County) has opened a Community Connection Center at 134 Main Street in Dansville. On Friday, November 5th, the Community Connection Center held its Open House. “It went really well,” said CASA-Trinity, Inc. Director of Community Based Services Brittany Jimenez, noting that a wide variety of people and representatives of several local organizations attended. Jimenez was also pleased to see several active program members as well as some of their family members present. “It was a good turnout and stayed fairly packed,” she said. “We received a warm welcome. Our referring partners were very excited for us, and our consumers (active members) were really happy to have an alternative option for continuing their recovery and wellness journey once they are finished with treatment.” Recovery options can be slim. “Steuben and Livingston Counties really lack recovery services outside of some NA meetings, some of which are well-established while others are not. However, there has not been a single location to which people can go,” explained Jimenez. “People in recovery have had This is such community support but nothing an exciting this consistent and organized.” Jimenez further mentioned a addition to trend of increased focus on the Dansville recovery to round out prevention and treatment. “We have added a community! lot of different components,” she - Brittany Jimenez said, noting not only meetings, but also fitness, arts, and music. “We are opening up a variety of pathways to recovery, offering a safe space to connect and participate in healthy activities.” This new Dansville space will be the location for AIR (Adventures in Recovery) Program and Main Street Station Youth Clubhouse. This center will be a safe space for adults and kids to enjoy and have access to community support meetings, art and music, alternative and holistic wellness activities, a library with both recovery and leisure literature, a gym with both independent and group fitness options and more! The Community Connection Center will be open Monday–Friday from 10am-7pm. The AIR Adventures in Recovery Program is a community of sober individuals dedicated to providing connection, The Community Connection Center’s Open House peer support, and on Friday, November 5th, 2021, was a great success! healthy fun outlets for those in recovery, their family members, and those in the community who choose to live sober. We seek to empower those in recovery to build their community, discover their inner strength, and find their recovery path. Readers Sound Off on Letting Cats Outside DEAR READERS: My recent letter from a pet mom who strongly believes cats should be allowed outside really touched a nerve among readers. They sent in some great responses, both for and against. Only a few are published here due to space constraints, but you can read all of them, unedited, at www. pawscorner.com. Here are just a few: DEAR PAWS: I do not have a cat, but I would keep them indoors because of the dangers from and to them. And I do not let my dog run free either. -- Mary Ann C. DEAR PAWS: My current cat thrives on being outdoors, and she loves coming in and being a lap cat, too. I never let my cat stay outside all night, however; definitely more dangers then. -- Carol T., Leicester, New York DEAR PAWS: I think a person who lets any of their pets roam freely outside is uncaring, selfish and inconsiderate. A dictionary says this of a pet: “any domesticated or tame animal that is kept as a companion and cared for affectionately.” -Signed, I love my pet

DID YOU KNOW?

Leisure activities may be widely viewed as fun ways to fill up free time, but the benefits of leisure activities extend beyond beating boredom. A 2011 analysis published in the journal BBA Molecular Basis of Disease found that leisure activities have a positive impact on cognitive function and dementia. The analysis, conducted by researchers with the Aging Research Center in Stockholm who examined various studies regarding the relationship between certain activities and cognitive function, defined leisure activity as the voluntary use of free time for activities outside the home. After retirement, leisure time constitutes a large part of many retirees’ lives, and finding ways to fill that time is more beneficial than merely avoiding boredom. The researchers behind the study concluded that the existing research is insufficient to draw any firm conclusions regarding the effects of certain types of leisure activities on the risk for dementia and cognitive decline, though they did note that multi-domain cognitive training has the potential to improve cognitive function in healthy older adults and slow decline in affected individuals. A multi-domain approach to cognitive training involves memory, reasoning, problem-solving, and map reading, among other activities. Aging adults who embrace activities that require the use of such skills may find that they’re not only finding stimulating ways to fill their free time, but increasing their chances of long-term cognitive health as well.

DEAR PAWS: Our pet cats still have an instinct to kill and be wild and free, just like big cats have. About the ticks: Just pull them off, put a little medicine on the bite, and that is that. -- Adrian M. DEAR PAWS: I agree with you. I lost two inside/outside cats when living in Florida. One got killed in the road; one got killed by a neighbor’s dog. After that I kept cats inside. -- Linda K. DEAR PAWS: I just can’t understand someone saying they “love having a cat,” but they certainly don’t seem to love the mess they leave in everyone else’s yards! -- Becky H. What are your thoughts on the issue? Send them, or any pet care questions, to ask@pawscorner.com.

As more people work remotely, electricians and safety advocates are warning that various missteps may be putting people at unnecessary risk of fire and other unsafe conditions. Electrical equipment is necessary to run home offices just like it is traditional offices. Some people may find they have a shortage of electrical outlets to power their devices, and as a result they may turn to extension cords or power strips. While that may seem like an easy fix, it is easy to inadvertently overload outlets and circuits by connecting more than one power strip or extension cord together in a practice known as “daisy chaining.” According to the U.S. Office of Compliance, using a daisy chain in the workplace violates the National Electrical Code as well as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s rules. While it may not break code at home, overloading any outlets increases risk for fire. The National Fire Protection Association indicates that more than 45,000 residential fires are started each year due to electrical failure and malfunction. Overload causes products to overheat, and that can spark fires in the power cords themselves or inside the wall where electrical lines are hidden.

S E V RA Good Samaritans I wish to give a huge thank you to two good Samaritans who helped retrieve my Golden Retriever on Friday, October 22nd, who was going back and forth in the middle of Main Street in Springwater. I am very grateful also to all of the traffic which stopped from both directions and showed such patience until my beloved pet was safe. It was just a clear reminder that there are a lot of wonderful, caring people in the world! - Truly grateful, Carol R. Rochester Philharmonic What a treat to listen to the RPO this past Saturday as they performed the score of Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO. And to watch the movie on the big screen as the music was played live was a great experience. The shower scene was especially hair-raising! We're so lucky to have such talent in our area!

Better spent I love football, but the owners of the Buffalo Bills are working on a plan to build a new stadium at the cost of over 1 billion dollars. To do this, they are asking taxpayers to help pay the bill. Then we have multi-millionaires paying even wealthier multi-billionaires for a 10 minute thrill ride into space. My question is this: what has happened to our humanity? What has happened to our value system? Each night on the news, we are witness to poverty and famine beyond belief in many countries - not to mention our own. Let’s re-evaluate our priorities. How many starving children could we feed and provide medical care for with the money spent on frivolity? What an idiot! Joe Manchin is holding this country hostage because of his personal interests in coal mining! The President of the United States went to Glasgow for the all-important COP26 meeting without a legislative commitment thanks to Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia! The earth is burning up, and we all need to act fast if we want an environment that is safe to live in, especially for our children. Manchin should be the first senator impeached! Boo to you! I would like to say to the person who stole part of my trailer hitch in the [local town] area, you must have some guts. As you were stealing my trailer hitch, you must have seen my license plate that says “Disabled Veteran.” This was a very costly hitch. I hope you are proud of yourself. I use this hitch for hauling dirt and other things for our home. That is why it is a tri-ball hitch. I hope you feel good about yourself.

Retirement can seem like it will never come for young professionals. But time can be a sieve, and retirement age can arrive in the blink of an eye. Young adults who have not planned accordingly for retirement can find themselves in financial straits at a point in their lives when they want to kick back and enjoy themselves. Financial experts from Money, CNN and The Motley Fool advise that financially solvent people should begin saving aggressively for their retirements early on. Ideally people should start saving in their 20s when they first leave school and begin their careers. The sooner one saves, the more time money has to grow. Vanguard says that the person who saves $4,500 per year over a career spanning 45 years can reach a goal of having more than $1 million in savings by the time he or she retires. Compounding interest and investment matches from employers can further secure professionals’ financial futures.

This will help the fibers “plump up,” and the spot will disappear!” -- A.I. in Utah * Remove the annoying sticky residue from price tags with WD-40 or baby oil. This is for use on hard surfaces only. NOW HERE’S A TIP

* “To help repel the dust on baseboards between cleanings, wipe with a used dryer sheet. To make this even easier, you can put the dryer sheet over a Swiffer-type floor cleaner. This way, you don’t even have to bend down.” -- M.E. in Alabama * Felt circles are great for putting under small appliances on the kitchen counter. They are easier to move around, and they won’t scratch the countertops. You can find them at the hardware store, or make your own by cutting out what you need from a piece of felt and attaching it to the bottom of your appliance with double-stick tape ... or even a drop of glue! * Running a washing machine that isn’t full not only wastes energy and water, it also wastes money because you’re paying to run more washes. Always fill the machine -- but remember not to overload it! This applies to your dishwasher, too.
