It is with bittersweet feelings that I am retiring from private practice. I am saddened that my long-term relationships with you all has come to an end after 35 years! The Good News is... I have left my practice at its current location and transferring ownership to Dr. Dan Doaga at Family Dental Care of Livonia. Dr. Doaga and I share the same goals of providing excellent dental care and service. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and I hope you will entrust your dental care with Dr Doaga and his staff.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SAINT PATRICK Saint Patrick’s work as a Christian missionary incorporated some pagan beliefs to which many natives of Ireland had previously subscribed. He combined those beliefs with the Christian sacrament, and the Celtic cross traces its origins to this combination of pagan beliefs and Christianity.

Taking Your Dog for a Winter Hike DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I love hiking with my Border Collie mix, “Jess.” Even in the dead of winter, we are out in the snow. Jess carries her own supplies in saddlebags sized just for her. The problem is, my girlfriend keeps saying it’s dangerous for Jess to be out with me in the wintertime. That she could get hypothermia, or injure her paws on jagged ice and have to be carried out. I really have never had a problem. What’s your take? -– Tim Y., Manchester, New Hampshire DEAR TIM: Each dog is different, and a dog that is outdoors frequently can acclimate as the seasons change. It sounds like Jess is pretty well acclimated to the cold, and you probably keep a close eye on her while on the trail to make sure she’s not shivering or in distress. Hiking is an activity that keeps you both warm, even on snowy days. I do understand your girlfriend’s worries. Much bigger dogs than Jess have suffered hypothermia from spending just a few hours in the backyard, unsupervised. And that term, supervision, does make a difference. Assure your girlfriend that because Jess is with you on the trail, she is under your supervision at all times. If she does get chilly or injures a paw, you’ll know about it right away, and will make sure that Jess is safe and that she’s warm enough. Her saddlebags should carry food, a drinking bowl, a doggy sweater or emergency blanket, and a small first-aid kit to deal with scraped paws and splinters. My advice: Keep hiking and enjoy the time spent with Jess!

Did You Know? Animals verbalize in many different ways to communicate. One thing cat owners may notice is that cats have a tendency to meow as a form of speaking with humans. However, according to the North Shore Animal League America, cats almost never meow at other cats, as meowing is a sound generally reserved for interacting with humans. Cat owners should talk back to their cats often, as cats enjoy hearing their own names and their owners’ voices.

BENEFITS OF HIRING PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTORS The DIY movement has inspired many homeowners to tackle home repair and remodeling projects on their own. DIY projects can be rewarding, and many homeowners who have embraced the DIY movement have discovered talents they never before knew they had. But no matter how simple popular home renovation television shows make remodeling projects appear, homeowners should know that such undertakings are far more difficult than they appear on television. Homeowners who overestimate their abilities and the time they have to complete projects can cost themselves substantial amounts of money. In fact, there are a variety of reasons homeowners might want to work with professional contractors when tackling home improvement projects.

WAYS TO IM PROVE INDOOR AIR QUALITY ALL YEAR LONG As w inter w ears on, it’s not uncommon for people living in cold w eather climates to experience some cabin fever. W inter w eather confines many people to their homes, making many antsy to get out once the first signs of spring begin to appear. In addition to contributing to cabin fever, w inter w eather can have a negative impact on indoor air quality. W hile air pollution is something most often associated w ith densely populated cities, the air inside homes is not immune to pollution, especially during long w inters w hen w indow s are often closed for months at a time. Though open w indow s in spring and summer can vastly improve indoor air quality, there are w ays to ensure that air stays fresh and healthy regardless of w hich season it happens to be.

HARDSCAPE AND HOW TO USE IT Think about the purpose. Hardscaping can look good but also serve key purposes. Pebbles or gravel can mitigate trouble areas that don’t grow grass or plant life well. Retaining walls hold back soil in yards with sharply inclined hills. Mulch can set perimeters around trees and shrubs, as well as planting beds. Fencing, another form of hardscaping, is essential for establishing property boundaries and adding privacy.

One of the ways homeowners can keep their lawns looking lush and green is to aerate the turf when the need arises. Aerators perforate the soil with small holes. These holes allow air, nutrients and water to penetrate all the way to the roots, helping them grow deep and strong. Deep, strong roots are essential to healthy, lush lawns. While aeration can help many lawns, not every lawn will necessarily need to be aerated. Lawns that get heavy use, such as those that are often played on by children or pets, will likely benefit from periodic aeration. Feeling the lawn also can help homeowners determine if it needs to be aerated. Lawns that dry out quickly or feel spongy may be overcome with thatch, which can prevent lawns from getting the air, water and nutrients they need to thrive. Lawncare professionals recommend aerating lawns that contain thatch that is more than one-half inch. Thatch also can foster grub infestations, providing another benefit to removing it and aerating a lawn. When to aerate depends on the type of grass. Homeowners should consult with a lawncare professional about the best time to aerate their particular lawns, but it’s generally recommended that cool-season grasses be aerated in early spring or fall, while it’s best to aerate warm season grasses in late spring.

The apostle lays great stress upon the covenant of promise being prior both to circumcision and the law of Moses; consequently, Abram could not derive his title to Canaan and the world, from either of them; for the promise was given before he became the subject of the righteousness which is by faith of it; and he was constituted righteous before the promise was made a covenant and confirmed; and this confirmation was fourteen years before the institution of circumcision, and 430 years before the promulgation of the Law of Moses. “Faith,” says the apostle “was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness when he was in uncircumcision;” and then it was, he was constituted the father of many nations, and Heir of the World. The promise, before it became a confirmed covenant with Abram, indicated the country he is to inherit: but it did not point out its territorial frontiers. This deficiency was supplied at the confirmation. It was to extend from the Euphrates to the Nile, comprehending a tract of country of considerable extent, and inhabited by the nations enumerated in “The Will.” Abram, therefore, could be at no loss to know in what direction, or to what limits, his future country was to extend; for he had travelled it all over in its entire length and breadth. Now, if a map of the territorial area indicated in the covenant be examined, it will be seen that the broadest extent is “from sea to sea” as it is expressed in scripture (Psa. 72:8; Zech. 9: 10); that is, from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulph; and its greatest length, “from the rivers to the ends of the land;” or, from the Euphrates at its junction with the gulph. northward; and from the Pelusiac branch of the Nile, to the entrance to Hamath. But, the frontiers of the territory were afterwards more particularly marked out at the time of the captivity in Babylon. The twelve tribes were then all in exile from the land, and it was once more wholly possessed by the Gentiles, as it is now. They were powerless and prostrate under the heel of the oppressor; and without hope or recovering the country by their own efforts. At this crisis, the Lord revealed to them the extent to which in after times they should repossess their country. “This,” said He, “shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel. And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea (Mediterranean), the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad; Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus, and the border of Hamath; Hazarhatticon which is by the coast of Hauran. And the border from the sea shall be Hazarenan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. This is the north side of the land. And the east side ye shall measure from Hauran, and from Damascus, and from Gilead, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the East Sea. And this is the east side running along the Euphrates. And the south side southward from Tamar to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river toward the Great Sea” (Eze. 47:19; 48:28). This is the south side toward Teman. “The west side also shall be the Great Sea from the (west end of the south) border, till a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side. So shally ye divide this unto you according to the tribes of Israel” (Eze. 47:13-21). Interested? Contact Baxter Sharp, 4306 Hammocks Dr., Geneseo, NY 14454

When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, cuisine, hosts should not overlook the importance of providing some staples that people have grown to expect on March 17. Corned beef and cabbage might not be the most authentic Irish meal, but it’s become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and therefore earned its place on your Paddy’s Day menu. Hosts can start the day off right by whipping up a pre-parade traditional Irish breakfast, complete with eggs, Irish bacon, white and black pudding, and brown bread. Hosts need not feel beholden to cuisine exclusive to Ireland or those that have become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day, but making sure at least one such dish is available is guaranteed to please your guests.

Sudden car trouble is something no driver w ants to experience, but many a driver has been driving dow n the highw ay only to feel his or her vehicle start to sputter. Such sputtering might indicate a car is running low on fuel, or it c ould be a sign of something more serious that requires motorists to think as quickly and safely as possible. W hen car trouble strikes w hile a vehicle is on the road, the first thing many drivers do is check their fuel gauges. A car that runs out of gas is c ertainly inconvenient, but if you can pull over to the shoulder or make it to the nearest filling station, then this unfortunate situation can be remedied rather easily. But w hen a car’s tank is full and it is still show ing signs of trouble, drivers must take steps to protec t themselves, their passengers and their vehicles.

HOW TO SUPPORT BUSINESSES DURING MANDATORY RESTRICTIONS Recognize that more than food is available for takeout. In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York announced relaxations on laws governing what can and cannot be obtained via takeout, allowing takeout on goods that were previously restricted in regard to takeout. For example, Cuomo announced that the New York State Liquor Authority intended to temporarily relax regulations regarding the takeout and delivery of alcohol. Utilizing such services can be a great way to support local businesses while still adhering to recommendations designed to slow the spread of COVID-19.
BUDGET-FRIENDLY LOCAL ACTIVITIES: Live music: Arenas and football stadiums are not the only places that showcase talented musicians. Music lovers with a passion for live music can visit local venues that cater to local musicians or even more established professionals who play small venues. Open mic nights at local bars can introduce music fans to new artists and/or styles of music, and can provide great opportunities to meet fellow music lovers in your area.

Spread Your Wings with Positive Things - a LIVES Book Project BY MAGGIE FITZGIBBON "I felt good reading the book that my class made for the kids. The students' responses were great; they all loved the book. I really enjoyed working with all the younger students in the elementary school," Kailin said. "My favorite part about being in a class was working with the younger students." "Kailin's reaction was great, she was so pleased to share this book with the first graders. Our class was able to watch via Zoom as she read the book," Schnitter said.
Kailin Footer (center) with Sarah Wilcox’s first grade class at Geneseo Elementary School.
W
hen an idea becomes a reality, it's a win-win! A recent project came about when Marcy Wolcott, LIVES Teaching Assistant, shared an idea for LIVES students to compose and illustrate a book that would feature elementary students. LIVES student Kailin Footer had been interning in Sarah Wilcox's first-grade classroom at Geneseo Elementary School for several months, and when both were approached with the idea, everyone knew it would be welcomed from cover to cover.
Wilcox commented on how the book was received by the students. "Without planning it, some of the animals that the LIVES students picked to write about are some of our favorite classroom animals. When Jack’s name came up in the book as a flamingo it was a fun coincidence. After the story was over, everyone agreed Jack had to wear Pinky (the flamingo) and take a picture with Miss Kailin and the book," Wilcox shared. "Every page she turned had the students hanging on to find out which student would be featured. Even after their names had been read they were just as excited to hear their classmates' names." The LIVES Program incorporates a college course schedule, with student internships, employment training and readiness, and community service opportunities. Kailin's internship in Wilcox's classroom was an example of work experience as both the first-graders and Kailin were the true benefactors.
The LIVES (Learn Independence, Vocational and Educational Skills) Program is a four-year transitional program located on the campus of the State University of New York College at Geneseo in collaboration with the Genesee Valley BOCES. Students, ages 18-21, with intellectual and/or other developmental disabilities, are provided with an inclusive educational community. Due to the pandemic, this school year, this program is set on the Genesee Community College Campus, located in Dansville, New York.
"The first month of school is built around creating a classroom community and building trust - it’s something we as teachers work at every day. Kailin came into our classroom and gained the studentsí trust so quickly and I think it really speaks to her ability to connect with others," Wilcox said.
"We thought this might be a good idea to present to the class and believed that this would be a great way for our class to connect with these first graders. It was a fun project," said John Schnitter, LIVES Instructor.
Schnitter echoed Wilcox's thoughts and also shared how cooperative learning opportunities like these have cumulative effects.
In December 2020, LIVES students began the process of writing the book and creating artwork to correspond with each page. The title of the book is "Spread Your Wings with Positive Things." Each student in Wilcox's class is featured in the book as a different character, some type of animal that has wings, which includes birds, bugs, and flying fish. LIVES students illustrated the book and also wrote the text that corresponds with each drawing.
"Last school year before the pandemic hit, the LIVES students were able to visit classrooms at Geneseo Elementary and read books to small groups of these young students. This laid the groundwork for Kailin's internship. Our LIVES students learned much from this project; how to inspire and bring joy to others," Schnitter said. "It was very meaningful to our LIVES students, and especially Kailin, to witness the students' reactions to the book."
This project took several weeks to create and some LIVES students crafted multiple pages. They sketched out their concept, added some color, and drafted their text. Wolcott typed up the manuscript. LIVES students crafted their pages which were then bound into a book.
The LIVES (Learn Independence, Vocational and Educational Skills) Program is a program of the Genesee Valley BOCES. GV BOCES operates as a Board of Cooperative Educational Services offering shared programs and services to 22 component school districts located in Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston and Steuben counties in New York state.
Wilcox shared how Kailin assisted with the first-grade students. "Kailin volunteered in our classroom for approximately 10 weeks. She took on the role as an aide to me and was a support person for students. She practiced sight words, read books, and helped students cut and glue projects related to reading and phonics. She would mostly work one-onone with students," Wilcox said. Once the book was completed, Kailin made a surprise presentation to the class. "The students knew that we had planned a celebration for Kailin as a thank you for her help. The morning of the presentation, I let students know what was going to be happening, both the students attending school in-person and the remote learners," Wilcox shared. Excitement filled the air in the classroom as Kailin read the book to the in-person and remote first graders. Students waited for her to read each page as they listened for their name to be read.

Refresh Your Home for Spring Reorganize cluttered areas If a room (or rooms) in your house are in disarray, start by reorganizing those often-used spaces to give them a like-new look and feel. Begin by removing everything from the room - including the furniture, if you’re able and separate your belongings into boxes or piles based on what you plan to put back in the room, move to another location and throw away or donate. Once you’ve cleaned the space, resituate the necessary furniture then place items you’re keeping back in their places in tidy fashion so they’re easy to locate.
NOW HERE'S A TIP By JoAnn Derson * “When thickening soup, don’t overlook instant mashed potato mix. It’s perfect for making a thin broth into a nice, thick stew sauce, and it’s pretty cheap. It only takes a couple of tablespoons.” -- I.F. in Utah * “Cut kitchen sponges into smaller pieces. They clean as well as a larger sponge, and you can dispose of the smaller pieces when they get yucky.” -- O.C. in Michigan

SENIOR NEWS LINE By Matilda Charles Here Are 2 New Scams to Watch Out For They never stop. Scammers are continually busy, and so must we be to stay one step ahead of them. Here are two more scams they’re trying to foist on us. If you’re still working and receive W-2 or 1099 forms, look them over very carefully. If it’s a 1099-G, that’s for unemployment benefits. Did you receive those benefits? If not, it means that a scammer has used your identity to collect benefits. Those 1099-G forms go to the IRS, and that income is taxable. Contact the unemployment office that issued the 1099-G and have them send a corrected form showing zero unemployment income. If you can’t get the corrected form in time, file your taxes without using that 1099-G dollar amount and enclose a note saying you didn’t receive unemployment benefits. The IRS is well aware of this problem. Then send for your credit report, check it and put a freeze on your credit. In another new scam, if you do an online search for a big box store and the first result on the list says “Ad” in front of the store name, don’t click it. This scam is especially sneaky because if you click on the “Ad” link, you’ll initially go to a page that looks very real. It isn’t. Clicking it will take you to a site that may freeze your screen ... and provide you a handy phone number to call to have the problem fixed. The person at the other end is a scammer who will ask for permission to access your computer remotely. If you allow it, he’ll put a bug in your computer that locks everything up, and you’ll have to pay to get it released. Instead of doing a search, type in the Internet address of the store you want (call them if you’re not sure what it is) and go directly there.
This week’s puzzle answer is elsewhere in this paper. The Crossword Puzzle is provided by Tribune Media Services. Any questions or comments should be made to 1-800-346-8798.

These stores take donations or offer items for sale on consignment, which means once sold the person who provided the item gets a portion of the sale. When browsing the racks of these stores, it’s possible to discover highend items mixed in with less expensive items. Shoppers may find designer handbags and clothing for much less than they would sell at retail, especially if the pieces are one or two seasons old. Relying on these stores to supplement classic wardrobe pieces is cost-effective and beneficial to the environment. If you regularly shop consignment stores, you can develop a rapport with the shopkeeper, who may alert you when new items are available.
Terms: Cash Only $50.00 refundable clean-out fee. Units are subject to redemption.
Gift Auctions Can Successfully Raise Funds Gift auctions are a fun way to raise money for good causes. Organizing a gift auction requires a team of dedicated volunteers. * Enlist a team of gift-wrappers. Presentation may determine bids and increase those bids. Ask for donations of baskets and wrapping materials, such as ribbon and cellophane. Each prize can be wrapped in ways to entice bidders to bid high and bid often.

REDUCE YOUR RISK OF STROKE (NAPSI)—An estimated 2.7 million Americans are living with a condition that can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure and other heart-related complications. Fortunately, a leading health organization is working to help these individuals reduce their risk of developing such dangerous conditions. Atrial fibrillation (AFib) is defined as a quivering or irregular heartbeat. Often, strokes that occur for no known cause can be linked to AFib, which a person may not even be aware they have. The American Heart Association (AHA)—the world’s leading voluntary health organization dedicated to being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives—wants all people living with AFib to understand how they can reduce their risk of cardiac complications. “AFib can have symptoms such as an irregular-feeling heartbeat, shortness of breath and light-headedness or it can have no symptoms at all. Even if you are not experiencing symptoms of AFib, your stroke risk is still increased five-fold,” says Patrick Ellinor, M.D., Ph.D., cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. Health care providers score a patient’s risk of a stroke caused by AFib by taking into account such factors as age, sex, and pre-existing conditions including hypertension, diabetes, vascular disease, and prior stroke or ischemic attack. “If you suspect you have AFib, meet with your doctor. AFib can be managed, helping you avoid stroke and live a longer, healthier life,” adds Ellinor. The AHA offers a free online community for those diagnosed with AFib, My Afib Experience. The initiative was made possible by an educational grant from the Bristol Myers Squibb and Pfizer Alliance. To learn more, visit www.heart.org/afibawareness. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

years ago, I developed a blood clot in my left leg after fracturing my ankle and being immobilized for several months. I was put on a blood thinner, and my ankle healed. Recently that leg started swelling again, and I went for an ultrasound. I was told that I have a chronic DVT, but that I don’t need blood thinners. Why do I not need a blood thinner now when I did before? What does “chronic” mean? Why am I getting swelling again five years after the first clot? -- L.S.B. ANSWER: Blood clots can happen in veins or arteries, but the type that happen due to surgery and immobilization are almost always in the vein. That’s the “V” in “DVT,” which stands for “deep vein thrombosis.” A brand-new blood clot has a high risk of propagating further up the vein, and also of breaking off and traveling through the vein into the heart. Most often, the clot will go on into the lungs, then called a “pulmonary embolus.” But in the rare case, the clot can go through a patent foramen ovale, which is sometimes called a hole in the heart, and cause a stroke. Because of the risk of life-threatening complications, acute DVTs are treated with anticoagulants, such as warfarin (Coumadin) or apixaban (Eliquis). This stabilizes the clot, and after a week or two the risk of propagation or embolization becomes much lower. Most people are treated for at least three months for maximum benefit. Treatment does not dissolve the clot, and a follow-up ultrasound will detail changes that show the clot is no longer acute, hence “chronic.” The vein itself is scarred and damaged, and never returns to normal. “Chronic DVT” isn’t the best term, since it confuses many, both patients and physicians alike. I prefer scarred, and some experts use “chronic luminal changes” to differentiate it from an acute clot. Whatever it is called, it may still be symptomatic. Most people with a history of a large clot in one leg will notice that leg swells more than the other in heat or with a large salt load. Even so, anticoagulant treatment is neither necessary nor helpful. Effective treatment for swelling associated with previous DVT includes salt restriction, compression stockings and leg elevation several times during the day. People with more severe symptoms that do not respond to conservative management may benefit from more aggressive therapies, such as placement of a metal stent to let the blood flow better through the damaged area. ***

Greek yogurt provides ample protein and can contribute to feelings of fullness, making it a more worthy snack than less healthy snacking alternatives.
www.salmonorthodontics.com SOY FOODS PACK A POWERFUL PUNCH The Cleveland Clinic notes that soy foods provide a host of nutritional benefits. Plant protein, including soy, can provide cardiovascular benefits, including helping with people with high blood pressure lower their blood pressure to healthier levels. While many people rely on animal-based proteins to get their daily recommended intake of protein, soy foods are naturally free of cholesterol and low in saturated fats. That makes soy foods more heart-healthy sources of protein than animal products. The Cleveland Clinic says substituting soy foods for animal-based proteins a few times per week can reduce a person’s risk for cardiovascular disease. Soy foods also can be a great source of dietary fiber, though the U.S. Soybean Export Council advises consumers that not all soy products are the same. The USSEC notes that foods like soy milk and tofu contain very little fiber. People who want to utilize soy beans as a source of dietary fiber should look to foods that utilize the whole bean, such tempeh, soy flour and textured soy protein. The USSEC also notes there’s some confusion in regard to the connection between soy foods and iron, though the group admits research is ongoing. While a 1/2 cup serving of cooked soybeans contains four milligrams of iron, the phytate and soy protein present in soy foods reduce iron absorption, meaning that the body won’t really benefit from the iron. However, the USSEC recommends consumers purchase fermented soy foods, including tempeh and miso, because the body might absorb more iron from these foods than it will when consuming other types soy foods.

“Woke” culture only have a simple solution: “Get Woke, Go Broke!” You have no idea what Freedom of Speech and Free Enterprise is all about. They teach misinformation in many educational institutions now. You all have your own brains to use; don’t be like fools following blindly to doomsville! Get the cobwebs out of your heads and start thinking for yourselves and stop listening to the media’s propaganda. You can never truly believe everything you hear. This is me exercising my Freedom of Speech, speech that comes from experience, not believing everything I hear or read. Social media is now more evil and hatefilled than it was originally designed to be. Stop it and start talking in person again.
Serving local businesses! ”Nothing happens until a sale is made” is an old adage but so very true. Our Ad Consultants have answered the call (and made a quite a few of their own), to help our customers continue to reach theirs. It’s our mission statement: “Reaching Your Customers,” and thanks to our dedicated sales staff, they’ve met this COVID challenge head on and continue to be essential for our advertisers! Well done! Steve Harrison A big thank you! Thank you so very much to the mother and son who found my driver’s license at Mendon Ponds Park and drove to my house to return it! You went out of your way to deliver it and saved me a lot of anxiety and hassle to
get it replaced. Your efforts are very much appreciated. So glad that there are nice people in the world like you two! COVID Immunization Clinic Thank you Livingston County Department of Health and Office of the Aging for holding a clinic for senior citizens. The clinic was extremely well organized and the shot was painless. Pay it forward I would like to thank the few who reached out recently at my request in search of a bike for rehab during our COVID situation with my COPD. In these rare times, it is good to see that there is still some good left in our communities and our neighbors who help one another.
Teacher vacation There is no way teachers are doing their full jobs when schools are barely open. It’s not their fault; they did not close schools. However, the school budget should be drastically reduced along with school tax bills. Don’t worry In response to Let It Go: There is no law or ordinance restricting any type of flag or flags you can fly on your
personal property. The only restriction or rule is that the American flag is the higher flag on the pole. Therefore if we choose to fly a Trump flag it is our right as American citizens. Would you go to someone’s residence to complain they are flying a flag from [another country], which, by the way, are all over in [local town]. Why does this bother you? I am using my first amendment right. Flags To the person ranting about the Trump flags: Leave it alone. If people can still drive cars with Obama and Hillary stickers years after the fact, people can have their flags. Trump supporters can’t have a bumper sticker as the crazies try to run them off the road. Trump flags are on private property. Stop the cancel culture.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Eileen), Keith Oklevitch, Linda (Kevin) Stone, John Oklevitch Jr.; brother, Wayne Furman; sisters, Joanne Martin, Sue (Clyde) North; grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Austin, Karen (Tom), Kevin Jr. (Lindsay), Kyler (Sarah), Kaylin; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin, Amelia; companion, Joan Crawford; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Golsiano Children’s Hospital, c/o Alumni and Advancement Center, 300 East River Road, PO Box 278996, Rochester, NY 14627. To share a memory or send a condolence visit oconnelldoughteryfuneralhome.com STEPS INVOLVED WITH ESTATE PLANNING An aspect of estate planning concerns funeral arrangements. Many people prefer to make their own funeral and burial plans so that these heart-wrenching decisions do not fall on the shoulders of grieving family members. Funeral planning may include choosing a burial plot, selecting a casket, indicating cremation, and paying for everything in advance so there is no financial burden on surviving family members.
Conesus: At age 78, Jack passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at MM Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua, NY. He was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Richard and Ruth Hensler. Survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer D. Hensler; his children, Brian Hensler (Shannon McGuire), Tracy (Harlow) Peck, Jennifer (Keith) VanCamp, Shannon (Tom) Marsh, Lisa (David) Guarisco, Jeffrey (Kelleen) Fisk, Michael Fusco and Eric Fusco; his grandchildren, Alycia ( John) Michael, Alan (Emily) Fisk, Alex Fisk, Maddelyn Fusco, Kayla Guarisco, Cody Peck, Joshua Peck, Theresa Hensler, Grace Hensler, and Oliva Marsh; and his brother, Carl (Pam) Hensler, along with his nephews, Chad (Sarah) Hensler and Kyle (Katie) Hensler. In keeping with Jack’s wishes, no formal funeral services will take place at this time. To share a memory or a condolence, please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com (585) 346-5401
Flower Meanings If you would like to customize your arrangement of funeral flowers further, there are more flower meanings that might express your sentiments in this time of grief and remembrance. Though they may not be the traditional funeral flowers, any flowers that share your sympathy with the bereaved and celebrate the deceased’s memory are appropriate for a funeral. The xeranthemum symbolizes eternity and immortality. Cyclamens say “goodbye”¤? and forget-me-nots send a message of faithful love and memories. Marjoram conveys comfort and consolation. The nasturtium celebrates patriotism. If you are aware of flowers that were a favorite of the deceased or that a member of the bereaved family particularly favors, those blooms may also be a good choice for a funeral gift. Whatever flowers you choose to send, your thoughtful message of sympathy will certainly be a comfort to those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Bonnie A. Guiles March 9, 2021 Geneseo: At age 71, Bonnie passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bath, NY to the late William and Hazel Dieter. Bonnie was predeceased by her grandson, Logan, as well as several brothers and sisters. Survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Philip E. Guiles; daughters, Tammy (Mike), Kathy Jo (Brent), and Boola (Matthew); her grandchildren, Austin (Bre), Barry, Brianna, Nino, Philip (Sammi), Walker, MacKenzie Ann and Mason; her sisters, Louise, Cookie and baby sister and best friend, Vicky; her brothers, Ted, Rick and Ike; along with several nieces, nephews; including her special niece, De De Wakefield. Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, March 15, 2021 from 4PM to 7PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree Street in Livonia. CONSERVE ENERGY AROUND THE OFFICE Determine how much space you truly need. Current business owners and prospective owners can save substantial amounts of money and avoid wasting energy by giving ample thought to how much office space they truly need. Large office spaces may not be necessary for businesses that recently downsized staff, while those starting out may want to start in small spaces before upgrading to larger spaces if and when their businesses expand. Small business owners leasing their office space can speak with their leasing agents to determine if they can include a clause in their lease that allows them to move into larger spaces if the need arises before their existing leases expire.
