Essentially, autumn is the quiet completion of spring and summer. Spring was all eagerness and beginnings, summer was growth and flowering. Autumn is the achievement summarized, the harvested grain, the ripened apple, the grape in the wine press. Autumn is the bright leaf in the woodland, the opened husk on the bittersweet berry, the fruit of asters at the roadside.

RISK FACTORS FOR BREAST CANCER Having breast tissue that is dense on a mammogram is a factor in breast cancer risk. The level of risk depends on how dense the breast tissue is. Women with very dense breasts have a higher risk of breast cancer than women with low breast density. Increased breast density is often an inherited trait, but it may also occur in women who have not had children, have a first pregnancy late in life, take postmenopausal hormones, or drink alcohol.

HOST A SUCCESSFUL YARD SALE Price things reasonably It’s tempting to overprice items, but a good rule of thumb is to mark things for one-half to one-third of the original value. Be open to negotiation, but try to haggle with a “buy one get one approach, rather than marking down the price considerably. After all, the goal is to get rid of as many items as possible, with financial gain a distant second.

Hi, my name is Gizmo and this is my begging face. It works sometimes, but my mama is very strict about feeding me people food. I spend most of my days following my mama around. I don’t like to be away from my mama for any length of time. I like to go for walks with mama, snuggle with mama and basically hang around with mama. I guess you could say I’m a mama’s boy.

By Lucie Winborne * According to Hasbro, the tallest Jenga tower ever was 40 levels, plus two additional blocks on top.
NOW HERE'S A TIP By JoAnn Derson * Want a great way to clean around your faucets? The answer may be closer than you think! A worn-out toothbrush can do a much better job of cleaning fixtures than it can your teeth and gums. Simply brush the wet bristles of a toothbrush over the base and it’ll get in those nooks and crannies you can’t reach with a sponge. * Remove mildew from plastic shower curtains by spraying them with a mix of bleach and water, or just toss them in the washing machine with your next load of towels. * “We have a playroom, and the kids argue about who made what mess and who should pick up which toys. We made a cleaning schedule for the room, having one or two children per day responsible to clean up at the end of the day. It was a rough start, but the kids have learned to clean up as they go rather than leave a big mess for someone else (payback is not kind).” -– A.M. in Kentucky * If your vacuum has a paper filter, spray it with your favorite perfume or essential oil. It will blow into the air as you vacuum, leaving behind a pleasant scent. * “Need your nails to dry in a hurry? You can use the cool setting on your hair dryer. It works really fast.” -- L.E. in Georgia * Using your fireplace? Try adding citrus peels to the logs for a nice aroma. They can be a good starter material as well.

There are plenty of apps that can help with foliage-finding adventures, so a phone is a handy tool. When packing, also bring along hiking boots, comfortable layered clothing and any equipment you’d normally take for an afternoon in the great outdoors. Another idea is to hit the ATM machine prior to the visit. Many smaller towns and their local shops may not take credit cards, so it’s best to have cash on hand for food and souvenirs.

Physical exclusion may be a best choice. For a few plants, individual cages can be constructed from wire hardware cloth. Form a circular cage using the cut strands for hooks. Place it in the soil a few inches and stabilize with a stake driven in the ground. For a sizable patch of tomatoes, chicken wire fencing can be framed and installed to enclose the crop. Every blade in the field, every leaf in the forest, lays down its life in its season, as beautifully as it was taken up. It is the pastime of a full quarter of the year. Dead trees, sere leaves, dried grass and herbs—are not these a good part of our life? And what is that pride of our autumnal scenery but the hectic flush, the sallow and cadaverous countenance of vegetation? its painted throes, with the November air for canvas? ~Henry David Thoreau, letter to Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1842 March 11th

PREVENT DIY INJURIES Safety goggles and glasses are a must-have for any do-it-yourselfer. They will provide a barrier between the eye and flying debris. According to VisionWeb, an eye education resource, most of the 110,000 eye injuries that occur each year in homes within the United States result from splashes with household cleaners, flying debris such as wood chips, or getting hit by branches. Many of these injuries can be prevented by wearing eye protection.

FALL LAWN CARE TIPS Remove leaves as they fall. Much like apple-picking and foliage, raking leaves is synonymous with fall. Some homeowners may wait to pick up a rake until all of the trees on their properties are bare. However, allowing fallen leaves to sit on the ground for extended periods of time can have an adverse effect on grass. Leaves left to sit on the lawn may ultimately suffocate the grass by forming an impenetrable wall that deprives the lawn of sunlight and oxygen. The result is dead grass and possibly even fungal disease. Leaves may not need to be raked every day, but homeowners should periodically rake and remove leaves from their grass, even if there are plenty left to fall still hanging on the trees. Ankle and Foot Centers of WNY There’s no need to suffer with ankle and foot problems!
TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Gluten-Free Foods Aren’t a Sales Gimmick --DEAR DR. ROACH: I have no health issues, but I’m a cheapskate. I see products labeled as “grain-free” or as “gluten-free,” but they always cost more than the regular product. Are there any health benefits to using these, or are they marketing gimmicks? -- L.C. ANSWER: They are not marketing gimmicks at all. People with celiac disease have a sensitivity to a protein in gluten, called gliadin. Even small amounts of gluten can cause long-lasting damage to the intestines, and many people with celiac disease will be unable to properly absorb nutrients if they are regularly exposed to gluten. This can manifest with severe symptoms, such as weight loss, diarrhea and severe metabolic disturbance. Or it can trigger much milder ones, such as mild abdominal discomfort after eating, skin changes, anemia or joint pains. Because the symptoms of celiac disease are so varied, a physician must be fairly convinced it’s celiac before making the diagnosis. Biopsy is the gold standard for certainty, but blood testing -- if done while consuming a diet containing gluten -- is suggestive. I strongly recommend getting a diagnosis before going on a strict gluten-free diet if you suspect celiac disease. For people with diagnosed celiac disease, strict adherence to a gluten-free diet is essential, and the increasing availability of glutenfree foods has made the lives of people with celiac disease better. Many grains are gluten-free naturally. There are people with symptoms from gluten-containing foods but who do not have celiac disease. The term is “non-celiac gluten sensitivity.” Some people with this condition are sensitive to components of the food other than the gluten, although there are some people who are sensitive to gluten but do not have celiac disease. For people without NCGS and without celiac disease, avoiding gluten is not necessary. A diet with many different whole grains has been proven to reduce heart disease risk compared with a more meat-based diet. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: Please discuss the problem of the thirst mechanism as it relates to the elderly. I’m 70 years old and in almost perfect physical health. I bicycle every day -- 75 miles each week. Even with this enormous physical exercise, I am never thirsty all day and night. Also, I do not perspire. I need to force myself to drink water. Why don’t I feel thirsty? -- M.U. ANSWER: Thirst is a powerful motivation. In people with an intact thirst mechanism, the desire for water can be overpowering; it’s one of the body’s main ways of regulating salt and volume in the body. You are exactly right that as people age, the thirst mechanism becomes less powerful, and that tends to leave older people with a slightly higher amount of salt in the body compared with younger people. Remembering to drink water, especially on hot days, reduces the risk of dehydration. However, people who drink continually may never trigger the thirst response. There are many social cues to drink, and people who are not losing fluid through exertion and sweat may never trigger a strong thirst response. Drinking too much is as dangerous as not drinking enough: If thirst is really impaired, you need to use other mechanisms to monitor fluid status. For example, needing to urinate every several hours (at least) is one way of staying in the right zone. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. THE BENEFITS OF WATER FLOSSERS Diligent dental hygiene is more than a path to a beautiful smile. It can save both pain and money as well, which is why many people choose to invest in a water flosser. Although brushing is vital, it can never reach all the crevices in which food can hide, and while string flossing can go deeper than brushing, water flossing can reach almost anywhere. Some people may find them intimidating at first, and there is a bit of a learning curve to master when it comes to pressure and water temperature; however, once you figure out your preferred setting, water flossers are very easy to use. If heavy plaque is a problem, try string flossing your teeth first.

Scammers' Tricks Are No Treat They never give up. Scammers are still taking every opportunity to steal our identity and separate us from our money, and the list keeps growing. Here are a few of the scams out there now: Seniors are getting calls from people who claim to be employees of the Department of Justice. Reports to the National Elder Fraud Hotline say that these scammers pretend to be investigators, and what they want is your personal information. If you get a call like this, don't be concerned that it's an authentic government call. It isn't. Just hang up. Maybe you'll get a call wanting to sell you an air purifier. They'll claim it will clean any coronavirus out of the air in your home. Maybe they'll try to get you to put it on a credit card, or they'll claim it's Medicare approved and all you need to do is give them your Medicare number. Don't fall for either of these tricks. Scammers will try these same tactics with miracle cures for COVID, masks that are "guaranteed" to protect you, face shields, vitamin supplements, free COVID tests, low-cost prescription drugs and much more. Sometimes scammers pretending to be from the government will try to get your personal information by saying they want to send you a stimulus check, or maybe they claim to need Census 2020 information. Sometimes it's about an expired warranty on your car or lower interest rates. Just hang up. Don't press 1 or any other number to have your number taken off their list. All that does is give them another opportunity to convince you to give up personal information. If someone you don't know leaves a message about any of these topics, ignore it. Remember that we seniors are the preferred target of these scammers. Don't fall for their tricks.

PREPARE VEHICLES FOR HARSH WEATHER According to the automotive retailer Pep Boys, vehicle tires lose a pound of air pressure for every 10-degree drop in temperature. Many modern cars will alert to changes in air pressure, and drivers should be diligent in maintaining the proper tire pressure. Fuel economy as well as handling ability can decline when tires are not inflated properly. Tires can be refilled at many gas stations for little cost.

Classrooms & COVID:
Dr. Schulz Answers Back-to-School Questions BY AMANDA DUDEK
A
cross Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region, children have gone back to school. For many students this means returning to the classroom, whether as a hybrid with virtual learning or fulltime. During this unprecedented back-to-school experience, families find themselves with many questions. Providing clarity is Dr. Steven Schulz of Finger Lakes Medical Associates, Rochester Regional Health Pediatrician, and member of the New York State Finger Lakes Reopening Schools Safely Task Force. Several school protocols include “masks breaks” and circumstances during which masks are not required, leading parents to question what constitutes an “exposure” should a student at their child’s school contract COVID-19. The answer is surprisingly clear. “An exposure is close contact with someone with COVID-19,” said Dr. Schulz. “This is defined as being unmasked and within 6 feet of an infected person for longer than 15 minutes. The highest rate of transmission occurs from close contact.” “Mask breaks can be done safely with adequate distance, but best practice is for students to remain masked and socially distanced whenever possible, especially indoors,” Schulz continued, noting there is a lower risk of transmission when outdoors. Dr. Schulz and the Task Force are working with Common Ground to share and implement New York State Department of Health guidelines with all schools within a 13-county area. Although some cases are anticipated, Dr. Schulz encourages families that we are in an excellent place to be returning to school. “In the Finger Lakes Region, we only have a 1% prevalence rate,” he explained. “That means there is a 99% chance that a child’s symptoms are due to another virus that is not COVID.” However, Dr. Schulz advises parents to contact their health care provider for next steps if their child does develop symptoms which are also consistent with COVID. But how can a parent determine when their child’s symptoms are likely COVID-19 rather than simply a cold, allergies or something else? “That is the hard part,” Dr. Schulz acknowledges. “COVID in children tends to be milder with symptoms ranging from runny nose, congestion, cough, shortness of breath and sore throat to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue and poor appetite. What parents should be most aware of are new, different, or worsening symptoms, particularly a fever.” What happens if your child gives a positive response during the school’s screening protocol or is sent home due to related symptoms? “Students who have these COVID symptoms must have an examination,” said Dr. Schulz. “The NYS Department of Health requires that the student meet four criteria to return to school: 1. Receive an evaluation by their health care provider, 2. Have a COVID-19 test with negative results, 3. Obtain a letter from the child’s primary health care provider, 4. All the child’s symptoms must have resolved.” Dr. Schulz again emphasizes that “kids are being sent home for a wide variety of symptoms, many of which are likely not COVID related.” However, he recommends isolating the child as much as possible within their household until their test results are received. During this time, adults and children over 2 years old should wear masks and wash hands frequently, and surfaces should be disinfected. “It is better to be safe than sorry to keep the virus under control,” he added. “Stay home when your child is sick and be honest when answering screening questions.” For the children who receive a positive result on their COVID-19 test, returning to school is a little more involved. “The health department

will go through contact tracing and determine when it is safe for that child and others to return,” said Dr. Schulz, noting that several advances in treatment are now available. “Household members will also be quarantined and should be tested, as well.” Within those children’s schools, the local health department will take over, determine high and low risk exposures, and reach out to individuals as necessary. “If everyone has worn masks at all times and has been social Dr. Steven Schulz, Finger Lakes distancing, there should be no need Medical Associates, Rochester Regional for a student’s class or school to Health Pediatrician, and member of the have any additional testing or to New York State Finger Lakes Reopening Schools Safely Task Force be shut down because there will have been no close contact,” said Dr. Schulz. Dr. Schulz is satisfied with the opening safety plans of area schools, which had to be approved by the state, adding that every family is different with its own tolerance of risk. “Every district is offering remote classes,” he observed. “At the same time, there are lots of benefits for attending school in person such as socialization, learning requirements, food stability and a stable place to stay. The schools are taking every precaution and are helping families to determine which choice is best for them.” Meanwhile, Dr. Schulz encourages people to talk to their local healthcare provider about their ability to get a flu shot. “It is especially important this year,” he said emphatically. “COVID-19 and the flu have a lot of overlapping symptoms, and theoretically, you could be infected with both.” He cautions that outbreaks of COVID-19 combined with outbreaks of the flu could overwhelm the healthcare system, reminiscent of the strain COVID-19 and the flu put on NYC’s healthcare system earlier this year. “Typically, the flu season starts in November, so we encourage people to get theirs by the end of October.” Regarding a future COVID-19 vaccine, Dr. Schulz believes it is only a matter of time. “There is a lot of vigorous study going into this,” he stated. “Vaccination trials are taking place regionally, and there is continued diligence regarding efficacy and safety. It will be a big step and help put this pandemic behind us.” Enjoy this article? Check out this week’s other great stories online at www.gvpennysaver.com: •

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Flea prevention treatments can be expensive, so I’ve been soaking orange peels in rubbing alcohol and spraying it on my pets and around the house. It seems to work, but even though I can’t see a single flea on my Rottweiler-pit bull mix “Debbie,” she is still scratching fiercely around her ears until they bleed. I tried ear mite drops because I think that’s the problem, but she just runs away from me. I can’t afford the vet right now. How can I solve the ear mite problem? -- Melissa, via email

It was one of those perfect English autumnal days which occur more frequently in memory than in life. The rich colours of grass and earth were intensified by the mellow light of a sun almost warm enough for spring... ~P.D. James, A Taste for Death
DEAR MELISSA: Stop using the rubbing alcohol on your pets immediately. It dries out a dog’s skin and causes irritation, and isopropyl alcohol can even poison a pet. The oil from the orange peel can be an irritant, too. Put the ear mite treatment on pause. It’s not improving the condition and is causing Debbie distress. It’s time to visit the vet. I know it’s expensive, but if money is an issue, tell the vet’s office when you call for an appointment. Low-cost vet clinics also may be available in your area. You can find them by searching online, asking the vet’s office or checking with the local pet-supply store. But Debbie needs to see a vet right now, because she’s suffering. To continue flea prevention without breaking the bank, consider treating your home with a product called diatomaceous earth (about $10-$14 for a 10-pound bag). Sprinkle it into the carpet and leave it for 48 hours, then vacuum it up. Reapply about once a month. You can even rub it into Debbie’s fur to kill fleas -- but only after her skin problem has been dealt with, because DE will irritate open wounds.

Makes 4 servings 4 beef tenderloin medallions (each 6 ounces and 3/4-inch thick) 2 tablespoons olive oil Seasoned salt and freshly ground black pepper 1 cup roasted green chile peppers (see below) 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1. Brush steaks thoroughly with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. 2. Place medallions on preheated grill, close lid and grill, turning once, until an instant-read thermometer registers 145 F for medium rare, 5 to 8 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate, tent with foil and let stand for 10 minutes. 3. Preheat broiler with rack 3 to 4 inches away from heat. Place steaks on individual ovenproof plates. Top each steak with equal amounts of chile and cheese. Broil until cheese melts, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately. To roast chiles: Preheat greased outdoor grill to medium or preheat an oven broiler. Place fresh chiles on outdoor grill or gas stovetop over medium heat or arrange on a baking sheet and place 2 to 3 inches away from heat under broiler. Grill or broil, turning often with tongs, until surfaces of skin are lightly charred and blistered. Immediately place peppers in a paper bag or an airtight container and close tightly. Let peppers cool for 12 to 15 minutes. Peel off charred skin and remove stems and seeds. Tear into strips or chop as needed according to the recipe. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling chiles. Refrigerate peppers for up to 3 days or freeze in airtight container for up to 6 months.

As calculators replaced abacuses, mobile phone apps have now replaced calculators, and such advancements continue to change how students learn. One way schools are notably different from those of the past is through the absence of a once major component of the classroom layout. Chalkboards are either missing or completely retrofitted in modern learning environments. In the 1800s, slate blackboards were the new technology, replacing handheld tablets of wood or slate. Within the last few years, schools have increasingly opted for cleaner “white boards” or “smartboards,” which are digitally connected to computers and offer touch interfaces similar to those on tablets and smartphones. As ebooks replace textbooks and more assignments are handed in via digital documents, lockers may be the next to vanish. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Most patients with breast cancer have surgery to remove the cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy is the removal of the sentinel lymph node during surgery. The sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node to receive lymphatic drainage from a tumor. It is the first lymph node where the cancer is likely to spread. A radioactive substance and/or blue dye is injected near the tumor. The substance or dye flows through the lymph ducts to the lymph nodes. The first lymph node to receive the substance or dye is removed. A pathologist views the tissue under a microscope to look for cancer cells. After the sentinel lymph node biopsy, the surgeon removes the tumor using breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy. If cancer cells were not found in the sentinel lymph node, it may not be necessary to remove more lymph nodes. If cancer cells were found, more lymph nodes will be removed through a separate incision. This is called a lymph node dissection. Types of surgery include the following: • Breast-conserving surgery is an operation to remove the cancer and some normal tissue around it, but not the breast itself. Part of the chest wall lining may also be removed if the cancer is near it. This type of surgery may also be called lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, segmental mastectomy, quadrantectomy, or breast-sparing surgery. • Total mastectomy: Surgery to remove the whole breast that has cancer. This procedure is also called a simple mastectomy. Some of the lymph nodes under the arm may be removed and checked for cancer. This may be done at the same time as the breast surgery or after. This is done through a separate incision. • Modified radical mastectomy: Surgery to remove the whole breast that has cancer, many of the lymph nodes under the arm, the lining over the chest muscles, and sometimes, part of the chest wall muscles. Chemotherapy may be given before surgery to remove the tumor. When given before surgery, chemotherapy will shrink the tumor and reduce the amount of tissue that needs to be removed during surgery. Treatment given before surgery is called preoperative therapy or neoadjuvant therapy. Even if the doctor removes all the cancer that can be seen at the time of the surgery, some patients may be given radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or hormone therapy after surgery, to kill any cancer cells that are left. Treatment given after the surgery, to lower the risk that the cancer will come back, is called postoperative therapy or adjuvant therapy. If a patient is going to have a mastectomy, breast reconstruction (surgery to rebuild a breast’s shape after a mastectomy) may be considered. Breast reconstruction may be done at the time of the mastectomy or at some time after. The reconstructed breast may be made with the patient’s own (nonbreast) tissue or by using implants filled with saline or silicone gel.

A hidden fire burns perpetually upon the hearth of the world.... In autumn this great conflagration becomes especially manifest. Then the flame that is slowly and mysteriously consuming every green thing bursts into vivid radiance. Every blade of grass and every leaf in the woodlands is cast into the great oven of Nature; and the bright colours of their fading are literally the flames of their consuming. The golden harvest-fields are glowing in the heart of the furnace.... By this autumn fire God every year purges the floor of nature. All effete substances that have served their purpose in the old form are burnt up. Everywhere God makes sweet and clean the earth with fire.

LANDSCAPES We just want to say thank you so much for your dedication and hard work during these very difficult times, especially this year. It’s very unfortunate the landscapers are always overlooked and underappreciated! They put their bodies and health on the line for unfair wages. They work in all kinds of weather conditions along with hazardous conditions! These laborers need higher wages and more appreciation. Show your support, public! THANK YOU, GOOD SAMARITAN! Our son recently lost his wallet in a parking lot in Canandaigua.
He was just about to go through the time-consuming steps of replacing his license, debit card, and other typical wallet essentials. After almost giving up hope, imagine our surprise when the wallet-fully intact, and with all cash still there-turned up in our mailbox. Since we have no idea who his guardian angel is, this is the best we can do to thank him or her for their efforts and honesty. Not only did they model human kindness, they saved my son a world of headache. His first words were, “Now I guess I need to do a random act of kindness for a perfect stranger!” Yes, he plans to pay your good deed forward. In this chaotic and divided world,
it was wonderful to experience this act of selflessness. Thank you! FIVE STARS Five Star deserves five stars! I want to thank Stephani (hope name is spelled correctly) for assisting me with my banking transaction. In a world filled with so many stresses and sorrows, it was a delight conversing with Stephani. What a laugh we shared about her ring. We laughed so hard she actually turned red. Of course, I made a mistake with my withdrawal slipwith all the laughter that I had to do it all over, but it was worth it. Laughter goes a long way. It made my day, and I can’t wait to return to
BE GONE! To the people who attacked the person who complained about their neighbor’s loud music, shame on you for ganging up on someone who respects the town ordinance. Do you even know what kind of music that neighbor was playing? Do you just assume it’s the kind of music you like? Such ignorance to assume all music has the same effect on everyone! If your music is loud enough to rock your neighbor’s house, you are intruding! Period. If I want free concerts, I’d live next to a stadium. You were completely irresponsible to “suggest” that the original complainer move their residence in order to get some peace in their life. I suggest that you people find out who you all are, move into the same neighborhood, and play
your personal outdoor concerts against each other. MUSIC RULES One cannot exact “rules” that dictate peace and quiet. Next, would they like to get rid of children playing in a neighborhood? Perhaps they would have a problem with dogs barking. A lot of things are of precious value. One of them is the fact that for those who live in a neighborhood, they cannot monitor what people do, especially when we live where we have certain freedoms. If a person wants peace and quiet all the time, then go to a library. Problem solved! Maybe cars and motorcycles zooming by the road is infringing on their “peace and quiet.” Maybe they don’t like neighbors working on their house and making noise with a hammer or drill. The point
is you have to be realistic when it comes to noise, and it’s give and take, especially when it comes to being neighbors. NO RESPECT When did it become okay to enter a person’s private property and relieve yourself? I live outside of town surrounded by fields. Fields are perfect places to stop in those times of dire need. I have a son, and I remember those times that just seemed to come out of nowhere. “I have to go now!” is shouted from the back seat. You find the nearest, safest place to pull over. When did a person’s paved driveway become the acceptable place to do this? This hasn’t always been commonplace, just in the last year. First time was when a child was allowed to relieve himself right onto my driveway as cars passed by. The second time was

Five Star in Brockport. Perhaps I will see Stephani again and we will share another humorous moment. So, Stephani thanks for the lighthearted moment that we shared. My husband just shook his head when I told him about our conversation about your ring. That will be our private joke. BIG THANK YOU! A big thank you to the person walking on East Lake Road, Livonia on Monday, September 14th. You smelled a gas leak coming from my neighbor’s home and called RG & E. Your involvement meant the situation was resolved safely, so thank you again for all you did!

TOWN OF WHEATLAND HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
Part-Time Position
HOW TO ACE JOB INTERVIEWS WHEN SWITCHING CAREERS Millions of people change careers every year. Whereas professionals may have once worked for the same company for the majority, if not the entirety, of their careers, nowadays it’s not uncommon for men and women to change jobs several times before reaching retirement. Changing jobs and changing careers are not necessarily the same thing. Professionals mulling a career change will have to consider a host of factors that men and women looking to change jobs may never have to contemplate. Such factors may include returning to school and lifestyle changes designed to make living on less income more feasible. Professionals changing careers may also need to develop a strategy for handling job interviews. When changing jobs as opposed to careers, professionals can draw attention to their résumés, essentially letting their experience speak for itself. But while experience is often a feather in a job candidate’s cap, professionals changing careers may need to focus more on their futures than their pasts when interviewing for a new career. The decision to change careers can induce both excitement and anxiety. Maintaining a positive attitude and employing various strategies when interviewing with prospective employers can help make the transition to a new career go smoothly.
Jobs include operation and maintenance of snow plowing and lawn mowing equipment, flagging and manual labor tasks associated with the highway department. Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Experience and CDL preferred but not required.
Applications may be picked up at the Wheatland Town Office or printed from the Town website
www.townofwheatland.org 22 Main Street, Scottsville, NY 585.889.1553 Please return completed applications to the Wheatland Town Office, Monday-Thursday between the hours of 8am-4pm; Monday 6pm-8pm; Friday 8am-1pm
