Beware Holiday Foods, Ornaments, Plants DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Please remind your readers of how important it is to keep their pets away from holiday foods. Some foods, like chocolate, can be deadly poisonous to dogs, while rich foods and ingredients like onions or raisins can be dangerous for cats and dogs. -- Jessica in New Jersey DEAR JESSICA: You told them, and thank you! The holiday season, with plenty of parties, family and food, can be hectic for everyone, but it’s important to monitor pets and make sure they’re kept away from potentially harmful items. Many foods, not just chocolate but onions, grapes and raisins, nuts, avocados and other holiday foods can cause house pets great harm. Store them well out of reach, and keep pets out of the kitchen when cooking and away from serving tables. A more extensive list of common foods that can be poisonous to pets is available from the Humane Society of the United States (www. humanesociety.org). Christmas tree ornaments also can potentially be harmful. Cats love knocking down glass ornaments and may accidentally ingest tinsel or other shiny strands. Dogs may gnaw on interesting packages or break into gift boxes of candy or fruit. Even plants need to be kept out of reach: poinsettias, for example, are toxic to cats. To minimize risk, place breakable ornaments higher on the tree and put plants well out of reach. During parties or dinners, place your pets in a separate area of the house with bedding, food and water, and check on them occasionally. (This also is helpful in keeping pets’ stress levels down.)

December 12, 2021 Poinsettia plants were prized by the Aztecs, since they produced a vibrant red dye. In the 1600s, poinsettias appeared in print for the first time using their Aztec name,

Cuitlaxochitl, which means “star flower.”

Can you use your design skills to create a festive poinsettia pot? Color in the leaves, which are normally red, any color you’d like and make them as vibrant as typical poinsettias are!

Gift Auctions Can Successfully Raise Funds In an effort to add some creativity to traditional fundraisers, many charitable groups have begun to rely on gift auctions. Gift auctions, sometimes referred to as a “tricky tray,” ask participants to silently bid on various prizes. Each prize is put on display and participants go around and place pre-purchased raffle tickets into bowls or bags beside the prizes. After bidding has concluded, an emcee will select a winning ticket from each collection of entries and read out the winner’s name or ticket number. Depending on how many prizes are available, gift auctions provide hours of fun.

585-584-9250 SIMPLIFY COOKING FOR A CROWD THIS HOLIDAY SEASON Only make what guests are likely to eat. Hosts also should not feel pressured to cook more food than is necessary. Holiday meals have a tendency to be lavish, but hosts don’t have to spend all day in the kitchen preparing food that will likely end up as leftovers or trash. WORK PANTS: THE NEXT GENERATION (NAPSI)—Just as technology has had a major effect on the kind of work people do, it has also changed the clothes in which they do that work. For example, with hard work in mind, a new collection of pants has been created by Carhartt with a unique blend of durability and functionality. “Our company has been around for nearly 130 years, and throughout our history, we’ve continued to improve our product offerings to fit the needs of our hardworking consumers,” says Deb Ferraro, vice president of product development at Carhartt. “This new collection of pants reinforces our commitment to setting a new standard for workwear.”

HORNED WORDS

Carhartt’s Steel Multi-Pocket pant, Steel Double-Front pant, and Steel Cargo pant feature the brand’s Full Swing® technology and a fabric blend of cotton, nylon and spandex. First introduced in 2015, Full Swing® uses stretch panels to provide ease of movement in the joints, improving hardworking consumers’ range of motion where they need it most—both on and off the job. Additionally, each of the new pant styles is equipped with knee pad openings designed to fit the company’s most recent innovation in knee protection. The Carhartt knee pad features a strapless, honeycomb design that maximizes durability and comfort, providing an easy-to-wear solution for impact protection. The launch of these new work pants coincides with a celebration of Carhartt’s oldest work pants. The classic Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungaree was first introduced to the company’s product line in 1939, and it is now the focal point of the brand’s latest campaign celebrating its sewing, cutting and distribution associates. The video highlights the product details while unveiling the craftsmanship behind every pair of the B01 Firm Duck Double-Front Work Dungarees. To learn more about Carhartt’s latest pants and knee pads, visit www.Carhartt.com. To watch the brand’s latest video, “61 Workers, One Mission,” visit the Carhartt channel on YouTube. Why Do Older Folks Have Balance Issues?

Discover the Human Touch in Hearing Technology

Lakeville 3513 Thomas Dr., Suite 2

Henrietta 20 Finn Road, Suite C

---

585.286.3664

DEAR DR. ROACH: Apparently, it is common for older people to have balance issues. Do these balance problems usually stem more from muscular issues or inner ear issues? -- E.M. ANSWER: It is often a combination of issues that lead to balance problems in older adults. Inner ear problems, where the organs of balance are located, are a major cause. However, balance problems are exacerbated by muscle weakness, vision problems, arthritis and medications, to name a few common ones. The body has many safeguards to keep us from falling. If the balance system can’t tell us our exact position in space, our eyes can, and the neurological system uses fine muscle control to keep us upright and safe. We can often do well even with one system not working properly. When multiple systems are affected, falls are more common. Improving balance and reducing fall risk often involves multiple interventions. One is working on balance directly. This can be achieved with home exercises; group exercises, like tai chi and yoga, which have the added advantage of increasing muscle control; or with a skilled therapist such as physical or occupational therapy. Making sure vision is as good as possible and staying on top of joint, muscle and neurological conditions will help reduce fall risk. Medications are so often the source of balance and fall problems that many medical practices (including mine) review medications at every visit to look for errors, medicines that have combined toxicities, medicines that are less safe in older adults and any medicines that might safely be discontinued. ***

Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. © 2021 North America Synd., Inc. All Rights Reserved GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

RECOGNIZE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS All-purpose cleaners: Many cleaners list bleach and ammonia among their ingredients. Bleach may be listed as sodium hypochlorite. When used as directed in a well-ventilated space, bleach and ammonia can be relatively safe. However, fumes from bleach or ammonia can cause rashes and skin irritation and irritate the eyes and respiratory tract. Bleach and ammonia should never be mixed because mixing the two can produce a deadly chloramine gas. Vinegar and baking soda can be used as a replacement for many household cleaning products, and these alternatives have virtually no dangerous side effects.

We Care About

Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy

CAVITIES: WHAT ARE THEY? Tooth enamel is the durable, protective outer layer of teeth. Bacteria in the mouth use ingested sugars to create acids that deteriorate this protective layer, forming cavities. Because enamel does not regenerate, dentists advise daily brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing to halt this destruction. A cavity begins as a white spot, which can be healed. However, over time, discoloration and decay occurs,, turning the spot from brown to black. Cavities primarily form on the tops of the teeth as well as in between them, where food becomes impacted, creating more bacteria. If not properly addressed, cavities cause sensitivity, pain, infection, and loss of sound natural teeth, making cavity prevention the first line of defense in avoiding permanent tooth loss.

Cavity-causing bacteria and its resultant damage can be controlled if we deal with bacterial plaque activity on a daily basis. A toothbrush alone, however, no matter how often used, cannot do the whole job. It takes the combined effort of smart eating, conscientious daily brushing and flossing, and professional visits to promote total oral health as well as complete body health. If it’s been too long since you treated your teeth and gums to professional care, now would be a good time to call BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL for an appointment. You can reach us at 585.343.4246, 6 Batavia City Centre. P. S. One-third of a human tooth, known as the root, is hidden beneath the gums, making it vitally important to keep gums healthy to ensure oral health.

Obey the rules. Movie theaters, airline cabins, libraries, and various other places have rules in place governing the use of mobile phones. These rules are designed to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable experience. Breaking these rules can be a safety risk in certain situations, but is more often merely inconsiderate of those around you. If you must use a mobile phone but you’re in a restricted area, excuse yourself and tend to the matter elsewhere.

MAKE HOLIDAY SHOPPING EXCURSIONS SPECIAL As they fulfill the social obligations of the holiday season, many people find themselves spending less time at home. Consumer Reports notes that individuals spend a great deal of time shopping for gifts come the holiday season. Americans engage in 15 hours of shopping on average, with women spending twice as long as their male counterparts (20 hours versus 10). In addition, the average person devotes 10 or more hours to wrapping and returning gifts. Holiday shopping can monopolize people’s time away from home during the months of November and December, and some shoppers wonder how they become so disconnected from other activities, including family time, that they cherish throughout the rest of the year. One way to tackle holiday shopping without sacrificing time with family and friends is to make holiday shopping a social event.

INFLUENTIAL JAZZ MUSICIANS Miles Davis (1926-1991): Compared to other jazz legends, Illinois-born Miles Davis was introduced to music rather late. It wasn’t until Davis was 13 years old that his father introduced him to the trumpet, an introduction that would dramatically alter the course of jazz music. Under the tutelage of local music school director Elwood Buchanan, Davis learned to play the trumpet without vibrato, which Biography.com notes marked a departure from the style of trumpet-playing popular at the time. A true pioneer, Davis is considered one of the most influential figures in the history of jazz and 20th century music.

Today’s auto manufac turers understand that maximized cargo space is a feature many buyers w ant in their new vehicles. But even the most spacious car or SUV may not alw ays provide the right amount of space drivers need to haul large items. In such instanc es, roof rac ks are an asset, especially to avid travelers or outdoor enthusiasts. Roof racks benefit travelers and everyday motorists in numerous w ays. Racks make it easy to transport cargo that does not fit the shape or size of a car trunk or cargo area of an SUV. Also, roof racks enable drivers to free up interior space and keep sight lines open, contributing to driver safety. By boosting a vehicle’s storage space, roof racks essentially transform the top of a car or truck into a second trunk. M oving items up and outside of the car can free up additional legroom and give passengers greater comfort on longer trips. Plus, roof racks provide a sturdy surface on w hich to store kayaks, mountain bikes, furniture, surfboards, and more w ithout damaging the paint and finish of the vehicle. Roof racks are sold in a variety of styles and applications. Roof boxes and bags also c an be purchased, if you have items that need to be protected from the elements. M any auto manufacturers offer roof racks as an option on new vehicles, or they can be installed after-market by a qualified professional. W hen purchasing roof racks, drivers should consider their needs and the size of the items they’re most likely to store.

CHRISTMAS TREE VARIETIES Fraser fir trees are typically uniformly pyramid-shaped trees that have strong branches that turn slightly upward. These trees have good needle retention and a dark, blue-green hue. Many people feel these trees have a pleasant scent. Because they are such a quintessential Christmas tree, Fraser fir, as well as their close cousin, Balsam fir, tend to be more expensive than others.

Karen Kennedy (Lubanski) December 4, 2021 Karen Kennedy (Lubanski), 79 years old of Fowlerville died at Strong Memorial Hospital on December 4, 2021 after a brief illness. Karen is predeceased by her husband, James; parents, Stanley and Margaret (Eggert) Lubanski; sister and brother-in-law, Marlise and Roger Burden; brothers, Stanley Jr. and Donald; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Jack Lawrence. Karen is survived by daughter, Lezlie Kennedy; son, James (Kim) Kennedy III; grandchildren, Mackenzie Kennedy, Lauren Kennedy and James Kennedy IV; brothers, Les Lubanski, Bill (Linda) Lubanski, Earl (Barbara) Lubanski; sister-in-law, Nancy Lubanski; many special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Karen grew up in Cuylerville and York, married Jim in 1964 and together they raised their family and worked the family farm in Fowlerville. Karen was a longtime employee of York Central School (first as a cafeteria worker, then later as a bus driver). Family was always a priority, and she was an active participant in her kids and grandkids’ lives whether she was coaching Little League for her kids, T-ball for her grandkids or (along with Jim) being an avid spectator/supporter of the many events of their grandchildren (rarely missing a sporting event, band concert, OM competition or school function the kids were involved in). Karen kept in touch with friends through regular meet ups, rarely missing an opportunity to chat over coffee or breakfast. She was funloving and had a great laugh that was very infectious. Family dinners would often involve lots of laughter, usually started up by something she said or did. She will be missed dearly. Friends and family are invited to call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Alhart Funeral Home, 3068 West Main Street, Caledonia New York, followed by a reception at the family home. “America is a fabulous country! It is the only place where miracles not only happen, but where they happen all the time...” ~ Thomas Clayton Wolfe Most of us were born in this country and have lived here all our lives. We may be forgiven for not comprehending how the rest of the world looks at our country as the land of miracles..... of dreams come true! “Only in America could such things happen” is often heard, and indeed, we are blessed with opportunities which people in other countries never experience. We should never let our miracles grow commonplace..... we should be constantly aware of just how fortunate we are! When death occurs, your first call should be to us. we can advise you as to what must be done and we can handle many of the tasks for you.

Alhart Funeral Home 3068 West Main Street • Caledonia • (585) 538-6500 UNDERSTANDING LIFE INSURANCE When choosing coverage, you will no doubt be asked if you prefer term insurance or permanent insurance. Term insurance is the least expensive life insurance, and such policies only last for a predetermined number of years. Men and women may purchase life insurance policies if they only want life insurance until they retire or until their children reach adulthood. Permanent insurance is more expensive and will last from the moment you purchase the policy until your death. Many people choose permanent life insurance policies so the money their beneficiaries receive upon their death can be used to pay estate taxes. In addition, there is an investment component to permanent insurance policies, as a portion of the premiums on such policies is invested (policies will spell out how the money is invested) and allowed to grow tax-free so long as the policy is open. Term insurance only provides protection with no investments.

CARE FOR TOOLS PROPERLY

Make sure to get your furnace cleaned & checked

Homeowners often choose to save money and learn valuable skills by doing their own home improvement projects. These minor or major renovations are made much more successful by having the right tools for the job. Investing in good tools can be smart, but those tools are only effective if they are accessible and in good repair. Homeowners who emphasize taking care of their tools can make DIY projects that much easier and more rewarding.

Home security: Wi-Fi enabled doorbells with video capabilities allow residents to see who is at the door without having to open it. Cameras can even be accessed remotely, simulating that someone is at home at all times. Never wonder if you’ve locked the door again with smart locks that can be engaged via a smartphone. Make sure that homes are secured or that pets are behaving while out with smart cameras.

NOW HERE’S A TIP By JoAnn Derson * Candles will burn more evenly if you refrigerate them for a few hours before lighting. * “My great-nephew and his family came to visit, and his toddler son is quite into opening doors. I had baby-proofed my home, but I did not think about his being able to turn a doorknob. His very smart mother pulled out a sock and slipped it over the doorknob, then secured it with a wide rubber band. Even I was unable to get a good grip on the doorknob after that!” -- V.R. in North Carolina * Surprise guests? Here’s how to quickly clean your living areas: First, clean the toilet, mirror and vanity in the guest bathroom and leave a fresh towel; grab a laundry basket and remove any clutter from the living room and kitchen; put away or clean dirty dishes and wipe down counters in the kitchen; finally, give carpets a quick vacuum. Then maybe light a great-smelling candle and greet your guests!

* “Fireplaces are wonderful for heat and ambience, but the ashes! When cleaning up, I spritz the ashes with a rosemary water solution. This keeps them from dusting up and flying all over, and it smells great. My neighbor puts her damp loose-leaf tea in the fireplace for scent.” -- C.W. in Iowa * “In cold winter months, keep your robe (and slippers or whatever else) under the covers with you when you sleep. Pull it next to or over you a few minutes before you get up. It’ll be toasty and will help make the transition into the cold a little less harsh.” -- Giselle in New York * Empty spice containers can be used to hold different hardware in the shop or in your toolbox.

GROWING TRENDS IN TODAY’S HOMES

Need your furnace repaired or inspected?

Smaller homes: Home sizes in the United States steadily increased for decades, eventually leading to an average of 2,453 square feet in 2014, according to U.S. Census figures. However, Realtor.com reported in 2015 that new construction homes have already begun to shrink by 40 square feet. There seems to be a slight trend toward more modest homes as people consider affordability and maintenance on larger properties. The National Association of Home Builders states buyers are now looking for smaller, more livable homes with flexible floor plans, energy-efficient appliances and plenty of storage space.

CELEBRATE ENERGY STAR DAY - EVERY DAY (NAPSI)—Every Fall, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) celebrates ENERGY STAR Day to raise awareness about the benefits of saving energy today, tomorrow, and for good. The typical household spends about $2,000 a year on energy bills. American consumers interested in saving money on their utility bills can look for the blue ENERGY STAR label to identify products—in categories such as electronics, appliances, smart thermostats, and lighting-that have been independently certified to use less energy. According to the EPA, outfitting your home with these products could save you 30 percent—or about $575—on your household energy bills, while avoiding more than 5,500 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Utilities, product manufacturers, and retailers around the country join the celebration and offer special deals that help make energy efficiency accessible and affordable for everyone. In some communities, manufacturers of ENERGY STAR certified light bulbs work with electric utilities to provide low-cost LED bulbs at major discount and DIY retailers. For more information visit www.energystar.gov/SaveForGood. Since 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped American families and businesses save nearly 4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and achieve over 3 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles

Pricy New Drug Means Higher Part B Premiums

The Medicare Part B monthly premium is going up in 2022 by $21.60, one of the biggest increases ever. The reason for it, they say, is the massive cost of a new Alzheimer’s drug, Aduhelm. Our new premium will be $170 per month. That’s going to be a big bite out of our new Social Security increase, $92 for the average recipient with a benefit of $1,657 per month. Aduhelm will cost $56,000 per year per patient. And that’s only the beginning of the questions and concerns. Whether Medicare is going to pay for the drug is still up in the air because it originally thought the price would be much less, closer to $3,000. Certain other insurers have already stated they won’t cover it unless the cost comes down. As recently as a year ago, U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisers voted against approving the drug as they wondered whether it really works. Clinical trials were inconclusive. Initially the FDA said it was for people with Alzheimer’s, but they’ve already changed their prescribing information and narrowed the criteria for receiving it. Now Aduhelm is for people with very early Alzheimer’s, mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia. It’s no cure, they say, but it slows progression of the disease. Part of its cost is that it has to be given in an IV in a doctor’s office or hospital. Many hospitals, not knowing if they’ll be paid for administering it (that $56,000 is for the drug only) and who should have it, are holding back. Some are even insisting on doing their own in-house research to see if it works. Doctors, not knowing if their patients can get the drug, are often hesitant to prescribe it and raise hopes in patients. Still, we’ll be paying that increased Part B premium in 2022 while they work things out and determine whether Medicare will pay for Aduhelm.

This week’s puzzle answer is elsewhere in this paper. The Crossword Puzzle is provided by Tribune Media Services. Any questions or comments should be made to 1-800-346-8798.

olidays are perfect excuses to get away from our usual day-to-day routine, spend time with family, eat delicious food, and simply have a good time. What better way to spend them than with the people we love having lots of fun? In the U.S., we might think of traditions like “Elf on a Shelf ” as a modern “unusual tradition.” Around the world, other creative holiday traditions have arisen, and they are very interesting!

1

Have you ever ordered Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) on Christmas instead of a home cooked meal? (If you have, no judgement!) In Japan, this is a tradition. Christmas is not celebrated as much in Japan, however, it can be said that their taste for American food is rather strong. Their choice of celebratory meal each year on December 25th is KFC. How did this come to be, you ask? In 1974, the franchise offered an “American Holiday Meal” that consisted of mashed potatoes, a roll, and fried chicken. This has continued to be a tradition for many Japanese families more than 40 years later. In fact, the fastfood restaurant requests that orders are placed at least two months in advance!

anymore to give to other children as extra presents when Santa visits them. The toys are placed in a special sack waiting for Santa under the Christmas tree. This tradition teaches kids that the best part of this holiday is not receiving gifts, but giving them, especially to the those in need.

5

Design a family coat of arms! This is another tradition tied to a holiday theme: family. Create your own coat of arms displaying your family pride. To do that, draw a shield on a large piece of paper, then decorate it with a picture of your family. Include a pictograph or symbol for your family or last name. This tradition will bring family members closer together, and it can be a fun way to discuss your lineage while showing how proud you are of your roots!

6

It is also traditional in many cultures to celebrate the new year. This year, consider trying the El Ano Viejo tradition popular in several Latin countries. Build a dummy representing the El Ano Viejo, loosely translated as “the old year,” using cardboard. Dress the dummy by drawing clothes on it or better yet by gluing scraps of old clothes from each family member. Write down a list of any of your faults and misfortunes on a piece of paper. At midnight exactly, tear the El Ano Viejo to shreds or throw the shreds into a fire and let them burn. While the El Ano Viejo is being destroyed, read the misfortunes out loud to make them vanish along with the old year. This could be a way to relax your mind about the new year and look forward to it while destroying your previous worries and anxieties.

2

In Spain, there is a holiday tradition that some may find a bit shocking. Instead of an elf on a shelf, families place what they see as the most important holiday figurine, “El Caganer,” on display. This translates roughly to “the defecator,” and this is where it gets interesting. The figurine is a porcelain male soldier with his trousers pulled down. The man is in a squatting position, taking a “number two.” Over the years, this small, indecent statue has placed alongside the Nativity scene. Legend has it that early Spanish farmers would have horrible luck with their crops if they did not do this during the holidays. The tradition still stands today, but the figurines can now hold different faces such as those of celebrities, sports stars, and famous singers.

7

Another way to celebrate and welcome a promising new year is to bang pots and pans on New Year’s Eve right as the clock strikes midnight. The idea behind this unusual tradition is to use the noise to ward off evil spirits and bad luck. This may also provide an opportunity to have fun and welcome the new year together with our families—and with a bang—while starting the new year fresh with optimism!

3

In Oaxaca, Mexico, this unique tradition is held close to the heart, even if others find it strange. It involves a radish, a small, edible root vegetable. During the holiday season, this root vegetable is intricately carved, like the way pumpkins are carved in the United Stated during Halloween. Oaxaca’s annual celebration consists of the sophisticated carving of a radish on the 23rd of December. These gorgeous creations are sold during the holiday season to be used as a center piece for the table on the night of Christmas, which is widely celebrated in Spain as “Navidad.” “Feliz Navidad,” as in the popular Christmas song, translates to “Merry Christmas.”

4

Some holiday traditions are tied to the Christmas spirit rather than a particular culture, such as teaching kids about giving back! Since December holidays are all about giving presents and having a good time with our loved ones, why not teach them the art of giving back? In this Christmas tradition, parents let their kids choose from the toys they own but do not play with

I will not name her, but she just had a way about her when it came to speaking to a customer. She did not display any kindness for my situation, and I finally asked to speak with a supervisor. I explained my predicament. Lori was genuinely concerned, so much so that she put an order in to have the item picked up as early as the next day. Wow! That is service for you! The representative who I had spoken to earlier said that they wouldn't even pick the item up at all. Thanks, Lori! Great work! I recently met Jose Ayala. He drove from Rochester to Geneseo to pick up my old refrigerator. He uses old appliances to teach young people how to repair them. Thanks for doing great work with young people, Jose! Unbelievable! I still cannot believe that a total stranger paid for my week’s worth of groceries at Honeoye Falls Marketplace! She was ahead of me and had checked out, but had heard me tell the cashier that I would appreciate it if she could put the filled grocery bags into the shopping cart as I had had a really rotten week and could not lift. This kind-hearted stranger heard me say this and had somehow indicted to the cashier that she would pay for my groceries. When the total came up, both she and the cashier told me that the groceries had been paid for. I was so taken off guard. I know I did assure her that I would “pay this kindness forward,” and I certainly will. I still get goosebumps when I think of this woman’s generosity!

Foreign Aid The USA sends ten million dollars in foreign aid to Israel every day. Think of what ten million dollars a day could do for places in America. This generous giving should be stopped and the ten million per day should be given to towns in the USA. Slow down! You are moronic to be speeding through a small subdivision where I live and have two kids. You are gaining nothing and putting lives in danger. I can hear the tires squealing around the bend and you slamming on the breaks, and for what? To get home and turn on your tv? You're a clown. They should tear up the road so your suspension gets destroyed as punishment for your stupidity! Global Warming To the person denying global warming: Do you think the world is lying to you? Yes, we've been talking about it for years because it's a gradual thing; it's not going to happen overnight. We've been warned for years. We can now see it happening. If this isn't enough for you to open up your mind and make sense of this, nothing will. Aug 30, 2021: It was the first time on record, and it was only the fourth time that temperatures there—an ice-capped expanse two miles above sea level, located in the very center of the Arctic island's interior—had risen above freezing. That’s a warning! Are you not aware that there are more wildfires, and they're burning hotter and longer? This is because there's more drought. Can you explain what's happening to our coral reefs? Why are they bleaching out? I don't have enough room here to tell you everything you need to be told. Please educate yourself.

Cheers to the Broadway Theatre League Thanks for bringing another world class musical to Rochester. I attended the Simon & Garfunkel show last Tuesday evening and it was sensational. Their music and lyrics are timeless, and the performers showed such respect to the famous duo with precision and aplomb. Thanks once again for providing such an enjoyable evening!

WORKING PARENTS CAN CREATE BETTER WORK-LIFE BALANCE Look for ways to be more efficient. Interactions with coworkers can make work more enjoyable, but working parents should not spend too much time shooting the breeze with their fellow employees. Doing so wastes time and only contributes to work-related stress. Commuters who don’t drive themselves to work can be more efficient by using their commutes to read emails, arrange meetings or catch up on projects. Doing so allows for more time to get work done while in the office, which can make it easier to go home on time.
