In 1961, at the age of 18, Jon Barefoot set out to start a business. Having worked with his father, James Barefoot, who owned a water pump business since 1946, Jon decided to start an excavation business. He found his niche in digging trenches for water lines and excavating for septic tank installations. In 1971 Jon bought a septic pumping business from his Caledonia neighbor, Seth Powell, and the rest is history. Jon managed to create a business that combined his love of working with the dirt with his passion for problem solving and helping people. Jon Barefoot considers it an honor to have had the opportunity to wake up and go to work for the last 21,900 days (and counting) to serve his friends, his community, and his customers.

PAW’S CORNER By Sam Mazzotta
Help Fight Off Fleas With Brewer’s Yeast DEAR PAW’S CORNER: Regarding cats with fleas, I have had great success eliminating fleas by adding powdered brewer’s yeast to their food. One of my cats even licked it out of her bowl dry. Brewer’s yeast is usually available at health food stores. -- Suzanne F., via email DEAR SUZANNE: Thank you for the tip! Brewer’s yeast is a great nutritional supplement for cats and dogs, and many owners have observed that their pets have fewer fleas when it’s added to their food. It can certainly be a strong asset to a well-rounded flea fighting strategy. For cats and small dogs, sprinkle about half a teaspoon on their food at mealtimes. For medium dogs up to 30 pounds, increase that to a teaspoon. For every 30 pounds over that, add a teaspoon of brewer’s yeast. Consistency is important. Brewer’s yeast, unfortunately, does not repel ticks, so pets -- even those who stay indoors -- should be checked regularly throughout the spring, summer and fall for these little hangers-on. Brush your pet’s coat daily to remove flea eggs and any remaining fleas. Owners may need to use stronger flea and tick treatments in addition to brewer’s yeast, but it’s still a great ally in the fight against fleas. Other flea prevention strategies include vacuuming your home twice a week during peak season to reduce tracked-in fleas and their eggs, and quickly ruffling your pet’s coat with a towel and cleaning their paws when they come indoors. Bathing your dog or cat can help reduce irritation from flea bites, but only use shampoos designed for pets to keep their skin from drying out and becoming more irritated.

Preowned Items Can Be Good For The Environment
Estate of David Christ Online Auction
Visit consignment stores: Consignment shops and Goodwill(R) stores are popular places to buy preowned items. These stores take donations or offer items for sale on consignment, which means once sold the person who provided the item gets a portion of the sale. When browsing the racks of these stores, it’s possible to discover highend items mixed in with less expensive items. Shoppers may find designer handbags and clothing for much less than they would sell at retail, especially if the pieces are one or two seasons old. Relying on these stores to supplement classic wardrobe pieces is cost-effective and beneficial to the environment. If you regularly shop consignment stores, you can develop a rapport with the shopkeeper, who may alert you when new items are available.

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * Adult mayflies have no functional mouth. Because of this, they die of malnutrition. This is an evolutionary occurrence that happens so aging mayflies don’t pass on genetic defects to the next generation. * If you do a Google search on the word “askew,” the resulting content will tilt slightly to the right. * The color of Facebook is blue because Mark Zuckerberg is red-green colorblind. * Ever noticed how some mass-produced ballpoint pens, such as the Bic Cristal, have a hole in the cap? No? Well, in case you someday do, now you’ll know why -- it’s not just to prevent leaks, but choking as well. Lots of folks like to chew on pen lids, and in the event they accidentally swallow the cap, the hole ensures it won’t completely block their airway. Page 4

STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * There have been more than 300 different Kit Kat flavors in Japan, including soy sauce, “European cheese” and wasabi. Some of them are limited or regional editions. Because the candy bar’s name coincidentally sounds like the Japanese expression “Kitto Katsu,” which translates to “You will surely win,” it is a popular good-luck gift for students ahead of their university exams.

The summer night is like a perfection of thought. ~Wallace Stevens
INFLUENTIAL JAZZ MUSICIANS Bessie Smith (1894-1937): While there are female instrumentalists in the genre of jazz, in the early days many, such as Bessie Smith, were vocalists. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Smith would come to be known as “Empress of the Blues” thanks to her powerful voice. By the 1920s, Smith was among the highest paid black performers. Tragically, Smith’s life was cut short when she died from injuries sustained in a car crash on her way to a show in Memphis in 1937.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles
Keeping Track At some point we need to start making notes. Maybe you’re not there yet. But that day might sneak up on you when you discover that you’ve forgotten to mail the check for your property taxes. Or worse, when a police officer stops you and says your license tags expired -- three months ago. Forgetting the car tag might be excusable if your town no longer sends out notices. Or if you had the same vehicle for eight years and tags were always due the same month each year, and now you have a new vehicle with a different due date. But when you’ve lived in the same home for 30 years and you forget to pay the property taxes ... that’s when you know you need to start making notes. A good way to do this is with an annual calendar. When you flip the page, there in bright letters are your tasks for the month. If one of the tasks happens to fall in the first week of the next month, make a note in the last week of the previous month. Use the previous year’s calendar, flip through all the pages, make your notes and you’ll be all set. ... Unless those tiny squares just won’t do the trick, which is possible if you’re still working or have a long list of tasks to accomplish on a weekly basis. For many years I’ve used an 8-by-11 notebook. Each page is a week, divided with lines into six boxes, dated. The weekend, when theoretically there are no urgent tasks, gets Saturday and Sunday in one box. It might seem silly to start keeping such a detailed calendar of things you need to do. After all, haven’t you always remembered when the car tags are due? Until you don’t, and are reminded by a police officer. (c) 2021 King Features Synd., Inc.

DO YOU HAVE CHRONIC HEEL PAIN?
TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
What Is Treatment for a Fatty Liver?
Do you have Chronic Heel pain? Are you not getting better after 3 months of treatments? Surgery not an option or you just don't want surgery?
Then consider Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)!!!
---
DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 77-year-old woman. I am 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weigh 107 pounds. I take no medication. When I went to the doctor last week, he found that my alkaline phosphatase was 176, my ALT 10, and my AST 11. He told me I had fatty liver and to get a scan, but I had no way to get to the place to have it done. He did not say anything else about it. I have no symptoms. Does this sound like fatty liver to you? I did not really like my doctor, but with my insurance it is hard to change doctors. If I do have fatty liver, is there anything I can do for it? -- J.F. ANSWER: Fatty liver is an increasingly common problem. Risk factors include being overweight and having diabetes, high blood pressure and abnormal blood cholesterol levels. Alcohol use is also a cause of fatty liver, and all people with fatty liver are strongly recommended to abstain from alcohol entirely. The primary treatment is diet and weight loss. It sounds like there was some missed communication between you and your doctor. Fatty liver is a possibility; however, it does not seem likely to me, as you have not identified any of the risk factors, and you are certainly not overweight (if anything, you are a bit underweight). Further, although the alkaline phosphatase can be elevated in fatty liver (yours is just a bit high), it is more common for AST and ALT to be elevated, which yours are not. An ultrasound scan is a good, but not definitive, way of looking for fatty liver. A liver biopsy is still the definitive test, but it’s often not done in people whose history, physical exam and ultrasound are all suggestive. A slightly abnormal alkaline phosphatase does not necessarily mean you have a liver problem. Bone issues (fractures, Paget’s disease of bone, high thyroid and parathyroid hormone levels) can cause a high alkaline phosphatase, too. Additional liver tests -- checking the GGT level or specifically what kind of alkaline phosphatase you have (by isoenzyme analysis) -- can make the source of the elevated alkaline phosphatase clearer. Getting an ultrasound scan and additional blood tests is a reasonable place to start. Unfortunately, lack of confidence in your physician is a different problem. If you really can’t get a new doctor, then you need to have a conversation about proceeding with evaluation in such a way that you can do so while being confident that you are getting good advice. ***
Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med.cornell.edu. © 2021 North America Synd., Inc. All Rights Reserved GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

We Care About
Your Smiles by Dr. Steve Sokolovskiy
AN UNEXPECTED SOURCE OF ORAL HEALTH Breastfeeding may not necessarily be suitable for every mother or every infant, but if you are on the fence about deciding what is best for you and your child, you should know that breastfeeding can have significant benefits for your baby’s oral health. Because breast milk is more easily digested than formula by most babies, more nutrients and vitamins that are vital to tooth and bone development are able to be absorbed. Breastfed babies are also far less likely to experience baby bottle tooth decay (also known as “bottle rot”). Of course, breastfeeding cannot eliminate tooth decay and you should start brushing your child’s teeth as soon as they erupt.
Taught early enough, healthy habits turn into healthy lifestyles. Begin with proper brushing and flossing techniques and a toothfriendly diet. Continue with regular professional care and cleanings for a beaming smile that will last a lifetime. If you would like more information on how to get your child’s dental experience off to a good start, we welcome your call at BATAVIA FAMILY DENTAL, 585.343.4246. We have both children and adults as patients here at 6 Batavia City Centre, because everyone, regardless of age, deserves a winning smile.
P.S. According to an American Dental Association study, children who were breastfed are less likely to have tooth alignment issues when they are older.

WAYS TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES
TYPES OF TISSUE YOU CAN DONATE Cornea: The cornea is the clear covering of the eye. The National Eye Institute notes that, unlike most other tissues in the body, the cornea does not contain blood vessels to provide nourishment or protection against infection. By donating their corneas, donors can help restore sight to people who lost theirs due to disease or injury.
NOW HERE’S A TIP
Use social media to give your recommendations on small businesses that go above and beyond in quality and service.
By JoAnn Derson * Get cobwebs off a window screen with a lint roller. * Want to make that summer at-home pedicure last? Don’t skip the base coat or a UV topcoat. The base coat will allow the color to adhere evenly and better. Then the topcoat will protect the color from the sun while giving it a little extra shine. * “Use an over-the-door shoe holder to house your makeup and hair accessories, plus jewelry and other personal items. You can trim a curtain or piece of fabric to fit over the length of it, and tie it to the top if it looks too messy in your room.” -- M.K. in North Carolina * Use this trick to freshen your stuffed animals. Dust with baking soda and put several together in a large paper grocery bag until it’s half full. Fold the top of the bag down and shake vigorously. Remove the stuffed friends and shake off any excess baking soda. For good measure, put the dustedoff toys in a low- or no-heat dryer cycle for 10-15 minutes. * Hashbrowns can be made on a waffle iron. Coat liberally with canola oil or butter-flavored nonstick spray, and add shredded potatoes and finely diced onion. Allow the iron to cook the potatoes to your desired level of crispness, and flip out both sides onto a plate. They will be both crisp and soft! * Honey has amazing properties, and one of them is its antiseptic powers. You can even use it on pimples. Just a tiny dab will help keep bacteria responsible for breakouts from taking over.
STRANGE BUT TRUE By Lucie Winborne * In early 2016, a 155-year-old mousetrap caught a mouse in a British museum. The trap was part of the exposition and hadn’t even been considered operational for a long time.

LAWN & LANDSCAPING TYPES OF FIREPITS FOR YOUR BACKYARD OASIS Wood firepit: As their name suggests, wood firepits burn wood, which may appeal to homeowners who already have wood-burning fireplaces inside their homes. Because they don’t require homeowners to tap into gas lines, wood firepits are generally easy to set up and install, and many homeowners prefer the aesthetic appeal of crackling wood and flames that’s synonymous with wood firepits.

STAY COOL THIS SUMMER WHILE LIMITING ENERGY CONSUMPTION Embrace strategic landscaping. The landscaping outside of a home can contribute to cooler climates inside the home. Deciduous trees shed their leaves annually, and when planted on the western and southern sides of a home, these trees can block the sun from entering the home during the hottest times of day, reducing the need to lower the thermostat on air conditioners. Of course, when these trees shed their leaves in late fall, sunlight can then make its way into the home, potentially reducing heating costs. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

PROTECT NATURAL BEE HABITATS If you find a honey bee swarm on your property, contact a local beekeeper who may be able to safely collect and relocate that swarm so it will produce honey and provide the additional benefits associated with healthy bees. People can also support beekeepers’ work by purchasing local honey. Not only does it keep jobs in the area, but some research also suggests that consuming local honey can help reduce seasonal allergies. WebMD says the practice is based on immunotherapy. Local honey contains traces of local pollen that may be responsible for seasonal allergies. Repeated exposure to small doses of this pollen might help bodies develop natural immunities.

HOMETOWN PHOTOS Petty behavior To the officer who was giving out numerous parking tickets on Friday evening, July 2nd to the people who parked at the abandoned [local building] in [local town] in order to simply walk across the street and attend [local event]. Seriously? For many of these people, it was the first time in over a year that they were finally able to get out and do something fun, and your response is for them to return to their car and see that they have been slapped with a parking fine for parking at a vacant premises? Wake up! Community relations do matter!
S E V RA Thank you so much! Tom Martin: what a true gentleman! My father always told my brothers before they left the house each time to behave like a gentleman and a scholar at all times. Tom, you certainly are one, a country one at that from beautiful Caledonia. Thank you for calling me about finding my wallet. Left it on the top of my car! Thanks, landscapers! It’s so sad to see how the public and employers treat these hard-working underpaid landscapers. Mind you, most of these landscapers worked through the whole pandemic in all kinds of weather, and physical jobs for peanuts! Show some love for these true hard-working men and women!
Borrowing from Social Security I’m 85 yrs old. I started working when I was 14 yrs old. I paid into Social Security until I stopped working when I was almost 76 years old. I can remember several occasions when our Social Security fund was robbed. Earlier this year, $435 billion was stolen (if my memory is correct), from Social Security. In the last month while there were cries of the imminent bankruptcy of Medicare, billions were stolen again. Medicare is not a gift; we paid into that fund for many years. Each month, I pay over $148. Higher wage earners pay hundreds more a month. So the story goes again. Also, Medicaid and Medicare are always referred to in the same breath. People do not pay for Medicaid.
Independence Day article Thanks to Ken Paulson for his story on the Declaration of Independence! We appreciated reading that! Huge thanks! I would like to say a huge thank you to the Ontario County Sheriff, the West Bloomfield Ambulance, Canandaigua Ambulance, the ALS Crew, and all volunteers or not who acted so fast on June 22nd, 2021, around 3:15pm. The first responder on scene was an Ontario County Sheriff who replaced my husband’s tourniquet with a much better one, and everyone’s wisdom on artery lacerations saved my husband’s life! He had cut his thigh and was bleeding out fast. I called 911 and told the dispatcher what I needed, and they, in turn, had a Sheriff in the area. God Bless You All! Thanks as well to the nurses and technicians on 3 East and ER and surgical doctors and nurses. Surgery took about four hours! Started at 10pm and ended about 2am. I ask people to try to be kind, remember police, fire, ambulance, etc. are all here to help. Shake someone’s hand and tell them how appreciated they are, please. More praise, less grumble. Prayers and appreciation to all of you who had part in saving another life! You all are the best! You give us hope! Stay safe; stay well. Blessings from the man with a box cutter & wife.

Brush steaks thoroughly with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. 2. Place medallions on preheated grill, close lid and grill, turning once, until an instant-read thermometer registers 145 F for medium rare, 5 to 8 minutes per side. Transfer to a plate, tent with foil and let stand for 10 minutes. 3. Preheat broiler with rack 3 to 4 inches away from heat. Place steaks on individual ovenproof plates. Top each steak with equal amounts of chile and cheese. Broil until cheese melts, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately. To roast chiles: Preheat greased outdoor grill to medium or preheat an oven broiler. Place fresh chiles on outdoor grill or gas stovetop over medium heat or arrange on a baking sheet and place 2 to 3 inches away from heat under broiler. Grill or broil, turning often with tongs, until surfaces of skin are lightly charred and blistered. Immediately place peppers in a paper bag or an airtight container and close tightly. Let peppers cool for 12 to 15 minutes. Peel off charred skin and remove stems and seeds. Tear into strips or chop as needed according to the recipe. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling chiles. Refrigerate peppers for up to 3 days or freeze in airtight container for up to 6 months.

STATISTICS SHOW JUST HOW BIG SMALL BUSINESS IS Small businesses have such a big impact on their communities, and the world at large, that it might be time to reconsider refering to them as “small.” According to the World Bank, small businesses have a major impact on the world economy, especially in emerging countries. In such nations, small and medium enterprises contribute up to 60 percent of total employment and up to 40 percent of national income. Small businesses figure to frame their economies in emerging countries in the coming decades, and they’re already doing so in developed nations, such as the United States and Canada. OATKA EDITION

FFA and 4H Members Bring Farm Experience to Byron-Bergen BY GRETCHEN SPITTLER
I
n June, the Byron-Bergen FFA brought agriculture education to the Kindergarten classes. Members of the FFA introduced the younger students to a variety of animals including cows, sheep, goats, and ducks. The outdoor event on the Elementary School grounds was a collaboration between FFA Advisor Jeffrey Parnapy and Kindergarten Teacher Ayn Gardner. “We reached out to local people who own animals, a farmer brought his tractor in, and we’re also learning about different kinds of feed,” said Parnapy. “Both 4H and FFA members are presenting their animals and answering the kindergarteners’ questions.” In some cases, the younger students were able to touch the animals. “I like petting the lambs,” said kindergarten student Evelyn Haywood. “Looking around today, I already think that this is going to have to be a yearly event,” said Parnapy. “Everyone is having a blast and I’m so excited that we were able to provide this experience for the kindergarten students.” Upstate Milk donated milk and cheese sticks for all the students and the FFA provided goodie bags for participating elementary students.

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH ANIMAL TRAINERS Trainers can recognize environmental factors affecting pets that owners may not see. Pet owners may think their homes are pet-friendly or conducive to housebreaking pets. But trainers may see things the untrained eye won’t. Anything from the location of a parrot’s cage to the designated litter box area for a cat can affect pets’ behavior, compromising pets owners’ efforts to housebreak their animals. Trainers can recognize potential problems that may have relatively simple solutions. GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

FINANCING FUNERALS According to Lincoln Heritage Funeral Advantage, the average funeral costs between $7,000 and $10,000. It can be easy to overlook planning for such a large expense, and many people may think their funeral costs will be covered by their life insurance policies. However, that isn’t always the case and certain complications can arise. The funeral planning information guide Funeral Basics states that sometimes insurance policies become invalid if payments have not been made. Policies may have liens on them, or some named beneficiaries may no longer be alive. This can stall the process as issues are worked through. In addition, it can sometimes take between six and eight weeks for beneficiaries to receive life insurance policy payouts. Since many funerals take place within a week of a person’s death, it’s unlikely that surviving family members will be able to finance funerals with life insurance payouts. In addition, some policies may not be assignable, which means the benefits cannot be assigned to go to a third party who will file the claim for you (i.e., the funeral home or an assignment company with which the funeral home partners). It’s important to determine if an existing policy is assignable and to take appropriate measures if it is not. Individuals may want to consider burial insurance or preneed funeral insurance. Another option is to use preplanning services, which allow people to prepay for funeral expenses and make planning decisions regarding the services and burial so that family members will not be tasked with financing and/or planning a funeral during a difficult time in their lives.
events. Betty loved to meet with the ladies to play Scrabble. Betty was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Orange City. There, she loved singing in the choir, working in the church’s thrift shop, and serving in several other church capacities.
Betty Jane Ruch Lindemuth June 12, 2021 Betty Jane Ruch Lindemuth, 96, of DeLand/ Orange City, Florida and Scottsville, New York passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
Betty and Walt moved to Woodland Towers in DeLand, Florida in August 2017.
Betty was born in Rochester, New York on April 23, 1925, the daughter of William and Florence (Williams) Ruch. Betty grew up in Churchville, NY and graduated from high school in 1943. Following graduation from high school, Betty attended The School of Nursing of The Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. There, she graduated in 1946 from their 3-year Registered Nurse program. Following graduation from The School of Nursing, Betty first worked in the Newborn and Preemie Nurseries at Rochester General Hospital, which was her love. She soon met her husband, Walter (Walt) and they were married in Churchville, NY on June 5, 1948. Betty’s nursing career included working in a pediatrician’s office, the Newborn Nursery at St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Children’s Convalescent Hospital, all in Rochester, NY. Betty and Walt eventually ended up in Scottsville, NY, where they lived for 28 years and raised their two daughters. Betty’s nursing career continued in Scottsville where she worked in a General Practice M.D.’s office and eventually as a School Nurse at Churchville-Chili School, Sr. High and Kindergarten in Churchville, NY. Betty’s last work prior to retirement was at Cooper Vision in Scottsville, NY where she worked in the soft contact lens department.
Over her life, Betty enjoyed ballroom and square dancing, particularly with friends in the British American Club. She enjoyed traveling with Walt, which included several Caribbean cruises, traveling to visit family in NY and CA, and to Walt’s annual reunions of the 490th Bomb Group, which took them to various locations across the United States. Betty loved family, including her sons-in-law and their families. Betty especially loved animals, particularly cats. Betty was proud to have participated in The Nurses’ Health Study, Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital for 45 years. All of Betty’s life, she was a kind, generous, sweet soul. Surviving are two daughters, Donna (Pat) Gilligan of Encinitas, CA and Janice Putnam of Naples, NY. Betty is also survived by a brother, Donald (Marilyn) Ruch of Jamestown, CA. Betty was preceded in death by Walter, her husband of 72 years, and her parents. The family would like to thank Woodland Towers and Vitas Hospice Care for the exceptional care that has been provided, most notably since Walt’s passing last July and at the end of Betty’s life. There were some incredibly special people at both Woodland Towers and Vitas Hospice Care that cared for and loved Betty. We know Betty loved them too. Unfortunately, no service is planned at this time.
In Scottsville, Betty was active and over many years volunteered to work at the American Red Cross Blood Drives. Betty was a long-time member of the Union Presbyterian Church and participated in and enjoyed many church groups and activities. Betty, along with Walt, enjoyed long-time friendships through being members of the British American Club. They attended many British American Club dinner dances over the years as well as travels to Toronto with members of the club. Betty and Walt loved loved spending time with Scottsville friends and enjoyed dining out. Retirement brought Betty and Walt to Orange City, Florida in 1986. There, Betty was active in their retirement community get-togethers at the Club House and volunteered for numerous committees to help plan GENESEE VALLEY PENNY SAVER

Lewis VanValkenburg July 5, 2021 Lewis VanValkenburg, 74, of Bergen, NY passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2021. Lewis was born on October 18, 1946 to Neil and Evelyn VanValkenburg in Batavia, NY. He leaves behind his blushing bride of 52 years, Margy (Bucknam), their children: Kathy (Matt) Barbaro of Cape Cod, MA, Sarah (Rich) Howard of Peosta, IA, Maryann VanValkenburg of Henrietta, NY, Paul ( Jennifer) VanValkenburg of LeRoy, NY, and Neil (Krystal) VanValkenburg of Geneseo, NY; 10 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren; his two sisters, Barbara VanValkenburg of Mt Morris, NY, Beverly Martin of Lancaster, PA; many nieces and nephews, along with very close in-laws, Betty and Patrick White.
“A child educated only at school is an uneducated child...” ~ George Santayana
He married the love of his life on June 21, 1969 in Warsaw, NY. Lewis spent many years working as a farmer and for the Town of Riga Highway Department until his retirement in 2005. In his 30 years of service, he showed integrity, knowledge, ingenuity, and strong work ethic every day. His love of red tractors was second only to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lewis was a 13 year liver transplant survivor. Please consider becoming an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to HomeCare & Hospice, 29 Liberty Street, Ste 6, Batavia, NY 14020, OR the URMC Transplant Patient Needs Fund, URMC Transplant Program, attention Nancy Metzler, Administrator; 601 Elmwood Avenue, Box Surg; Rochester, NY 14642. It seems likely that professional educators subscribe without reservation to Santayana’s “thought.” Some parents seem to feel that the public schools are fully responsible for the education of their children, and they feel absolutely no responsibility for assisting. Indeed, the “support” from such homes may be negative. The schools have a child for a few hours each day. It is in the home where children learn some of the most important lessons. The parents who truly love their children will do all they can to supplement the school’s efforts, especially in the examples they set. We recognize the need of some families for a minimum services at minimum cost. We offer immediate disposition when such service best meets a family’s needs.

GO GREEN WHEN SPENDING TIME OUTDOORS THIS SUMMER Embrace eco-friendly activities. Various activities, from organic gardening to planting trees to beach cleanups, provide a great way to get outdoors and help the planet at the same time. Men and women who grow their own vegetables can take solace knowing that the vegetables they’re eating each night did not require the depletion of any natural resources to go from garden to table. Signing up for beach cleanups can prevent trash, including harmful plastics, from making its way into the world’s oceans, and such cleanups provide a great excuse to go to the beach. Page 47
