According to a 2011 study published in the peer-reviewed journal the Annual Review of Nutrition, experimental data from animal studies suggests that maternal undernutrition among pregnant women may play a role in preterm birth. The study also reported that a lack of specific nutrients during pregnancy may influence gestation length by increasing the likelihood that a woman will give birth before reaching full-term. Women who are pregnant or hope to become pregnant can speak with their physicians about the role nutrition can play in a healthy, full-term pregnancy.

Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School Remembers First African American President: The Reverend Dr. James H. Evans, Jr.
BY COLGATE ROCHESTER CROZER DIVINITY SCHOOL
The Board of Trustees, President, Faculty, Sta , and students regret to announce the death of e Reverend Dr. James H. Evans, Jr. who departed this life in Rochester, New York on ursday, August 25, 2022. His contribution to the life of the seminary as an administrator, scholar, and teacher helped to shape the foundation on which Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (CRCDS) rests.
e school’s 9th President, Dr. Evans was, in 1990, the rst African American to serve as CRCDS’ Chief Executive O cer. During his ten-year tenure as President, the seminary established the Program for the Study of Women and Gender in Church and Society, focused on faculty recruitment, increased the endowment, created the Tower Society, and increased available scholarships for students. Dr. Evans joined the divinity school’s faculty in 1979 as an Instructor of eology and Black Church Studies. During his almost three decades of service to students and the broader community, Dr. Evans served with distinction as Dean of the Program of Black Church Studies, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Professor of eology and Black Church Studies, and the Robert K. Davies Professor of Systematic eology.
Dr. Evans, a native of Schools,Cranbrookfromgraduatedminister,BaptistsonandMichiganDetroit, theofathetheUniversity of Michigan (A.B.), Yale University Divinity School (M.Div.), and Union eological Seminary in the City of New York (M.Phil. and Ph.D). He was consecrated as a Bishop in e Kingdom Council of Interdependent Christian Churches and Ministries in 2016. Dr. Evans’ service to church and numerous local and national non-pro ts and boards includes a four-year term as President of the American Baptist Association of Seminary Administrators, President of the Rochester Area College Presidents, and Vice Chair of the Board of Education and Publications for the Progressive National Baptist Convention, USA. “A leading theologian and respected clergyman, Dr. James Evans made signi cant
contributions to Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School and the greater Rochester, New York metropolitan area. I give thanks for a life well lived in service to God, family, and humanity,” said the Rev. Angela D. Sims, Ph.D., current President of CRCDS.
Dr. Evans is survived by his wife, the Reverend Dr. Linda Hickmon Evans, three children: James, Jamila, and Jumaane, four grandchildren, and the congregation of the St. Luke Tabernacle Community Church in Rochester, New York, established in 2000, for which he and his wife were founding Pastors. A memorial service is currently being planned by the family. CRCDS will release the information as it becomes available in the coming days. Parents have a host of options at their disposal when the time comes to buy new cars for their families. While dad might have long dreamed of driving the fastest sports car on the market, such a vehicle does not make much practical sense when car trips figure to be made with kids in tow.
Finding the right car for a family depends on a host of factors, as what makes a good vehicle for one family will not always make a great choice for another family right down the street.
What You Can Do
First, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), you should look for a car with these vehicle safety features:
• Rear-view cameras
• Interior trunk release
• Side-impact air bags
• Advanced frontal air bags
• Push-down/pull-up window switches
• Automatic door locks.
Next, the NHTSA says, you should always remember to:
1. Use a car seat for every trip—even when you’re just going down the street. Select the car seat based on your child’s age and size, and always follow the manufacturer’s directions. Make sure it’s compatible with your vehicle by checking the car seat manufacturer’s instructions.
2. Keep kids in the backseat at least through age 12.
3. Tell children not to play around vehicles. Before getting into a vehicle, check around and behind it, as well as the surrounding area, to ensure no children are present.
4. Buckle and lock any unused seat belts to keep kids from getting tangled up in them.
5. Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, no matter how short the stop, or what the weather is, even if the windows are cracked. The car can heat up very quickly in almost all weather conditions. Even with moderate outside temperatures in the mid-60s, a vehicle’s interior can quickly heat up to more than 110° F. In addition, if the ignition is on or the keys are in the ignition, children can accidentally cause the vehicle to roll or even drive away.
What Can Help
To prevent precious cargo from being left in cars, one company has come up with an ingenious Rear Door Alert (RDA) technology. An industry first, the system was developed by two mothers who are also engineers at Nissan. It monitors when the rear door is opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. The system responds with a series of notifications if a rear door was used prior to a trip but was not reopened after the trip. Once the vehicle is in park and the ignition is turned off, the system will first display a notification in the instrument panel and progresses to distinctive chirps of the horn to remind drivers to check the backseat.
Nissan’s RDA is easy to configure and can be temporarily or permanently turned off through a menu in the cluster display.
Already available in the Nissan Pathfinder, for model year 2019, RDA will be standard equipment on eight other Nissan cars, including the best-selling Rogue and the all-new Altima. By model year 2022, it will be standard on all the company’s four-door trucks, sedans and SUVs.

Weed whack plant as close to the ground as possible. Install cardboard or heavy construction paper over the area, overlapping by 4-6”. Be sure to cover all the area. If the bed is next to a structure, be sure the paper goes up on the structure 3”. Then install 3” to 4” of hardwood mulch. Be sure not to move the paper and that you have it covered by that depth. This is the most effect way that I have used to get unwanted plants

I have a small raised tomato garden. The tomatoes are good. The problem is that something is making small holes after the tomato is ripe. We ruled out deer. We sprayed with a powder. It only happens during the night. We never saw any bugs, etc.Any ideas..?
It is hard to know for certain, but my thought is Tomato pinworm: young yellowish-gray larva only a few
millimeters long make blotch mines in leaves; older yellow, green, or gray, purple-spotted larva up to 8 mm long fold leaves and web them together or bore into stems, buds, and fruit; leaving fruits with pinholes and discolored blotches. It is also possible that it is something else that might not typically feed on tomatoes, too. Your vigilant observation and inspection of the fruit might find more evidence which may be helpful.

PREPARE YOUR LAWN & GARDEN FOR WINTER
Rake leaves as they start to fall more heavily. Once leaves begin to fall more heavily, rake them up and add them to compost piles. The resource GardeningKnowHow.com notes composting leaves creates a dark, rich and organic matter that can add nutrients to garden soil and loosen compacted earth. Leaving leaves on the lawn once they start to fall in great numbers makes it hard for grass blades to breathe, and the leaves can block moisture from reaching the soil, which needs water to maintain strong roots. In addition, potentially harmful pathogens can breed on damp leaves left on a lawn, and such bacteria can cause significant damage to the turf over time.

Demolition: Demolition involves more than picking up a sledgehammer and swinging away. Some demolition projects are best left to the pros. For example, any projects that involve exposure to hazardous materials are risky and therefore best left to experienced laborers. However, many homeowners are capable of safely and effectively pulling cabinets from walls, removing flooring or knocking down drywall. Homeowners unsure of how to approach demolition tasks can ask their contractors to demonstrate the proper technique so the demolition is done right and on time.

SENIOR NEWS By Matilda Charles Scammers and the Omicron Vaccine
e latest scam against seniors appears to have started the very day the new Covid omicron vaccine was announced as being approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
e call I received promised to help me get to the front of the line ... ahead of all the people who were going to be eligible at the same time. All I had to do was provide my banking information or Medicare card number so they could “hold a place” for me in the appointments.
A er all, the scammer said, millions of people were going to be rushing to get the vaccine. I didn’t want to be le out, did I?
I had a few minutes, so I decided to test the scammer’s actual knowledge about the vaccine. He was fuzzy on the information and stumbled to answer, sometimes making it up as he went.
Here are some facts to remember should you get one of these vaccine scam
ecalls:truth is that not everyone is going to be eligible. ose who haven’t had any previous Covid vaccines cannot get the omicron vaccine until they take the other ones. en you have to wait two months before getting the new one.
e P zer booster will be for those age 12 and over, with the Moderna for those 18 and up. ey don’t know yet about children younger than those ages.
No, at this point there haven’t been any clinical trials about how well the omicron version works. Mice, yes, but people, no. (Moderna and P zer both did mini-tests of 600 people each.)
e omicron vaccine will cover not only the omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, but also the original Covid as well. It’s called a “bivalent” vaccine because it covers both.
But the big thing to remember: ese scammers don’t want to help you get the new omicron booster. ey only want your personal information.

TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH By Keith Roach, M.D.
Hiatal Hernia Is Not Correlated to Asthma Medication
DEAR DR. ROACH: I am 80 years old, still work full-time and have generally good health, except for adult-onset asthma. Advair 250/50 was prescribed for me over 10 years ago, and I’ve been taking it regularly each morning, thoroughly rinsing each time to prevent thrush. About five years ago, I developed an abdominal hernia just below my waistline. My primary physician referred me to a general surgeon, who did a very thorough exam, including an MRI from the jaw down. He discovered an esophageal hernia in addition to the abdominal hernia, and told me that a specialist would have to perform the double surgery. His advice was to avoid surgery, leaving it as a last resort. He prescribed famotidine twice daily to preclude acid reflux. That generally works, but not always.
My question is, does Advair 250/50 cause or contribute to an esophageal hernia? -- D.A.A.
ANSWER: A hiatal hernia (“hiatus” means “gap” in Latin), also called an esophageal or paraoesophageal hernia, is when the hole in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes is larger than normal, so other abdominal organs, especially the stomach, can slide through the hole from the abdomen into the Mostchest.hiatal
hernias are thought to be congenital, meaning you were born with the propensity to have a larger-than-needed hole in the diaphragm. Most people with this condition have no symptoms and do not need treatment. The unusual person with symptoms from a sliding hiatal hernia is usually treated medically. Like you, they are prescribed famotidine, which reduces stomach acid. In the rare case when the paraoesophageal hernia is so large that the stomach gets stuck inside the chest, or when other abdominal organs enter the chest, a person may require surgery.
Neither asthma nor Advair, a combination of an inhaled steroid (fluticasone) and a long-acting beta agonist (salmeterol), is related to hiatal hernias.

Quality Sleep
To help you feel your best and sleep more soundly, try the following tips: Take a shower – About 90 minutes before bedtime, take a hot bath or shower. This will help to reduce muscle tension & accelerate sleep onset. Create an electronics curfew – The blue light from your favorite electronic devices interrupts your ability to relax and fall asleep. Don’t use your smartphone, tablet and other digital devices for one hour before bed. Stretch to relax – Stretching for 10-15 minutes before bed will help reduce muscle tension. Turn down noises and do some gentle stretches to relax the muscles and mind.
Set a wake-up schedule – Try to wake up at the same time each morning, even on the weekends. This will help keep your internal clock ticking correctly so you can fall asleep more quickly and sleep deeply.
Embrace natural light – About 15 minutes of sunlight each morning will help reset your circadian rhythm so you can rise more naturally and then sleep better in the evenings.

COMBATING CANCER IN YOUNG WOMEN ONLINE (NAPSI)—Women from the ages of 18 to 50 are the most active group of adult Internet and social media users. And even though women in this age group are less likely to get breast cancer than older women, it does happen. Now, three southern states are making sure these women have reliable online resources.
Tailored to the Territory
The program could be lifesaving throughout the country. African-American women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer younger, and more likely to get a type of breast cancer that grows quickly and is hard to treat. Louisiana—especially the southern part of the state—has a large African-American population.
Dr. Donna Williams, director of the Louisiana Cancer Prevention and Control Programs (LCP), says she was surprised to see the number of women under 50 in the area with breast cancer.
Many of these cancers were found through a program started by LCP and local partners. The program sponsors two mobile vans carrying equipment to give mammograms, the recommended screening test for breast cancer. Still, diagnosis is just the beginning of the breast cancer journey.
Raising Awareness
LCP searched for breast cancer resources for young women on the Gulf Coast, but found only a handful. Practically none of them talked about fertility, early menopause or discussing cancer with kids—problems most older women with breast cancer don’t face.
So, with a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), LCP started a series of workshops just for younger women with breast cancer. It held meetings all over southern Louisiana and set up a Facebook account.
LCP called the project “SurviveDAT” after the rallying cry of New Orleans Saints football fans: “WHO DAT!”
Going Regional, Going Viral
When LCP applied for another CDC grant for the successful program, it had a big choice: keep SurviveDAT live or go totally online. While the inperson workshops drew only about 20 people at a time, the Facebook page had gained more than 2,000 followers statewide. The decision was easy from there: It was time to go virtual.
All of Louisiana could be reached with the planned website. But why stop there? LCP also got in touch with cancer control programs in other states. Right away, Mississippi and Alabama signed on, creating SurviveMISS and SurviveAL.
The goal of the “Gulf States Network” was to reach 7,000 users online in the first year. It took only 90 days to exceed that.
Information Machine
Looking to the Future
Dr. Williams and her partners want the project to keep growing. Already, cancer control programs in Arkansas and Florida have expressed interest.
And there are more issues to discuss. Women often have concerns about fertility, a good reason to talk to a doctor before beginning cancer treatment. Many are interested in genetic counseling, or speaking with a professional before genetic testing about possible test results and what they could mean.
Learn More: CDC has a nationwide campaign about breast cancer in young women called Bring Your Brave. To find out about your risk and steps you can take, visit www.cdc.gov/BringYourBrave.

Did You Know?
Animals verbalize in many different ways to communicate. One thing cat owners may notice is that cats have a tendency to meow as a form of speaking with humans. However, according to the North Shore Animal League America, cats almost never meow at other cats, as meowing is a sound generally reserved for interacting with humans. Cat owners should talk back to their cats often, as cats enjoy hearing their own names and their owners’ voices.
HEMP HAS SIGNIFICANT HEALTH BENEFITS FOR PETS
(NAPSI)—NaturVet’s veterinarian-formulated pet supplements have progressed over the last 25 years to keep up with the ever-changing needs of pet parents. NaturVet’s newest Hemp for Health product line includes four top products—Allergy, Calming, Immune and Joint— that are now available enhanced with Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Seed Powder, sharing the same great original base formulas that pet parents have relied on for years.
Although marijuana and hemp come from the same cannabis family, the plants are completely different in function, cultivation and application. Hemp is grown specifically for agricultural purposes and has been used for hundreds of years in textiles, body care products, paper products, industrial products and building materials. Most importantly, hemp is nonpsychoactive and cannot get your pet high.
Hemp has significant health benefits for pets. Hemp is high in fiber; a great source of plant-based protein; is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids; and contains phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and 20 amino acids. Hemp Seed Oil and Hemp Seed Powder work synergistically with other active ingredients to help provide support for allergies, stress and anxiety, joints, aches and discomfort, the immune system, and overall health and wellness. How To Pet Proof Your Home
When Decking The Halls
• Secure the Christmas tree. Pets may sniff around the tree or investigate it closely, which can increase the chances that it tips over. That poses a significant safety hazard and underscores the importance of using a sturdy stand. Fastening the tree to a wall, much like one might do with a television that isn’t mounted, adds a further layer of protection from tip-overs.
• Block off the base of a live tree. Drinking water from a tree stand could increase the risk of the tree tipping over and the water could upset the stomach of pets if the tree was treated with pesticides prior to being brought home. When decorating with a live tree, make sure the base of the tree where the water will be is blocked off. A small fence around the tree could keep curious pets away. The room where the tree is located should be locked or inaccessible when pets are home alone.
• Inspect and conceal light wires. Lighting wires should always be inspected prior to decorating and frayed or damaged wires should be thrown away, even if it means replacing lights. If wires are still sturdy, conceal them along the base of the wall using a cable concealer, which prevents pets from chewing on them.
• Avoid lighting candles. Candles should not be lit in homes with pets. Even candles on shelves that are seemingly beyond pets’ reach can be hazardous, as pets, especially cats, have a way of accessing spaces they seemingly shouldn’t be able to reach. Use electric candles in lieu of traditional ones.
• Speak to a vet about seasonal plants and flowers before bringing them into the home. Pet owners should speak with their veterinarians before bringing poinsettias, holly and other seasonal plants and flowers into their homes. Some pets could suffer allergic reactions if they eat certain seasonal plants.

BENEFITS OF WORKING WITH ANIMAL TRAINERS
Trainers train owners as well. Trainers won’t just work with pets, but also with pet owners. Obedience trainers will work with pets to teach them how to behave while also teaching owners various ways to positively reinforce the animals. This is a great way for owners to get hands-on experience and learn proper obedience training techniques, which are not always as easy to learn as owners may think.

PAW’S CORNER
By Sam Mazzotta
Building a Pet First-Aid Kit
DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I read in a guide about cutting dogs’ toenails that styptic will stop bleeding if you cut their paws. What is that, and where do I get it? -- Perry in Dallas
DEAR PERRY: Styptic powder can be used on small nicks and tiny cuts to stop bleeding and reduce pain. at’s helpful when trimming pets’ toenails, which can be a traumatic experience for them, especially if you should trim a little too far up the nail and accidentally cut the quick. e powder is applied with a cotton ball or so cloth. Most owners keep it right next to them as they trim their pets’ nails, so it can be applied immediately.
In fact, styptic powder should be an essential part of something every pet owner has: an easy-toaccess rst-aid kit for their pets. You don’t have to buy a complete kit; you can assemble a few key items and store them in a tightly sealed plastic container.
In addition to the powder, a pet rst-aid kit should have gauze and tape, a small bar of soap, a disinfectant like hydrogen peroxide or alcohol wipes, Benadryl (plain, with no ibuprofen or acetaminophen), cotton balls and disinfecting hand wash (for you). Its main purpose is to treat small cuts and scrapes, but you can add other items that you think are essential, including the veterinarian’s phone number, extra identi cation tags, copies of your pet’s shot records and a spare leash. More ideas can be found at the Humane Society of the United States’ website.

A Big Thank You!
A big thanks to the team at The "Original" Red Osier Landmark Restaurant in Stafford for serving a delicious lunch to our members this past Friday in celebration of our awesome staff and the retirement of one of our coworkers. Tender roast beef and juicy chicken sandwiches were accompanied by generous servings of scratch-made pasta salad and potato salad. Everything was fresh, tasty, and cheerfully served with a good time had by all. Thank you!
Very Happy
I would truly like to thank the people that have been working on Route 63 and our town of Dansville. They are doing a wonderful job. It is hot and dirty work, but it has been long overdue. Again, thank you all!
Forever Grateful
On August 24th, I choked on food while eating lunch and lost my breath. I managed to call 911, and the gentleman operator stayed on the line with me, calming and reassuring me, until the EMT Team from Fishers Fire Company arrived at my home. The scare was unbelievably frightening and traumatic. The EMT Team was extremely professional and very kind. Thankfully, my emergency had a happy ending. We are so very fortunate to have these two agencies in our community. I am forever indebted to to them.
Shoutout to NYSDOT
A huge shoutout to the NYSDOT on Union Street in Spencerport for grinding down a gigantic bump in front of our house that caused empty tractor trailers to make the sound of a bomb going off in our neighborhood! Now we won't be awakened in the middle of the day or night! Thank You! David T. - Churchville

Dress Code
My husband took our car to have its free annual undercoat checkup. As always, the manger asked if he would like to have any other services done to the car as well, such as detailing, cleaning, etc. My husband replied, “No thank you, just the undercoat checked.” The manager said to my husband, “I didn’t think you would by the way you are dressed!” This was said to my hardworking husband because he had on his blue-collar work clothes. Other rude comments were made about the age of our vehicle. I didn’t know you had to wear a suit and tie to get respect [there]. I find this incident unprofessional, inappropriate, and disrespectful! Someone has to do the dirty work. By the way, my husband cleans up well!
Country Roads
To whomever ranted about their road: I used to live on a country road, and almost every year, they would grade the road because of potholes, then roll it. Then, when it rained, the road was a mud hole. Why can’t it be fixed correctly? People pay enough in taxes to keep them maintained. It isn’t a long road.
Volume on High
Has anyone besides my wife and I noticed that the volume at concerts and movie theaters has become so loud that ithey are unpleasant to attend? The movie we went to see was so loud that, even with earplugs, my wife was forced to leave the theater. And when did the bass become a solo instrument? I went to the concert to hear the star, not the bass. Sound mixers as a group must be deaf from attending too many concerts.

Rush Henrietta Prayer
e best part of the open free prayer meeting this week was when an unknown Spanish woman just started singing to Jesus. We prayed for America, Monroe County & Rush Henrietta. We prayed for our soldiers, children, homeless, sick & those with addictions.
Americans gather for the 4th of July. Likewise, should all Christians gather to pray. No denominational division/discussion. Some of the unknown new people commented that this Prayer Meeting is “simple,” “no pressure,” and “Beautiful.”
“I didn’t have to do anything or even speak,” “no church talk,” & more.
Jesus said, “And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, ‘So, you men could not stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour?’”
* We start at 6pm & we end at 7pm. Hope to see you October 4th at 6pm.

UNIQUE WAYS LOCAL BUSINESSES CAN WORK TOGETHER
Change suppliers. Many partnership opportunities can be effective even if they’re less public in nature. Global supply chains were in flux during the pandemic and have yet to return to normal. That makes now a great time for local businesses to reconsider their suppliers. When doing so, look into local suppliers and let it be known that your products are locally sourced. For example, local restaurant owners can highlight the fact that their foods are sourced from local farms and manufacturers. That may impress foodies with a fondness for freshness, and also should reassure customers who want to keep as many of their dollars in the local community as possible.

MEDICAL AUTHORITIES SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT PREDIABETES (NAPSI)—One in three American adults now has prediabetes—a serious condition that often leads to type 2 diabetes. Yet 90 percent of them don’t know it. The good news is that with early diagnosis, prediabetes can be reversed through healthy lifestyle changes. Learning your risk is simple: visit DoIHavePrediabetes.org and take the one-minute risk test.
What Is Prediabetes?
Prediabetes is when your blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough yet to be considered type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes can also lead to other health issues like heart attack and stroke. The key risk factors for prediabetes include being overweight, being physically inactive, having a parent or sibling with type 2 diabetes, or being over 40 years old.
An Urgent Message
More than 84 million Americans have prediabetes, and the number of adults diagnosed with diabetes has more than tripled over the past 20 years. Type 2 diabetes prevention is such an urgent need for our nation that two leading health organizations, the American Medical Association (AMA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), have partnered with the Ad Council to raise national awareness. Together, they have built resources that help people know their risk and learn how to reverse prediabetes.
Do You Have Prediabetes?
Go to DoIHavePrediabetes.org and take a simple one-minute risk test to know where you stand. If you receive a high score, the next step is to confirm the diagnosis with your doctor and ask how to enroll in CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program.
CDC Programs Can Help
With early diagnosis, prediabetes can be reversed—and the best thing people can do is to join the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program. This scientifically proven program is available in person or online across the United States to help people make healthy changes. Trained professionals share ongoing support and tips to help stay on track with healthy eating, physical activity, stress reduction and more. Research shows that through the program, you can lower your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58 percent (71 percent if you’re over age 60).
Learn More: Learn more about prediabetes and find lifestyle tips and links to CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program at www.DoIHavePrediabetes.org.

CREATE A SALE-WORTHY SHOWPLACE
The sentiment “don’t judge a book by its cover” can be applied to many situations. When it comes to selling their homes, homeowners should remember this adage as they prepare their homes for prospective buyers. Homeowners who want to make their properties stand out can take the following steps.
De-personalize the home. Homeowners fill their spaces with family photos, heirlooms, personal interests, and other conversation pieces. Prospective buyers may not be able to see past personal belongings and may even be distracted by them. For example, buyers who have strong beliefs about animal welfare may not buy a home displaying hunting trophies. Remove personalized items where possible, replacing them with generic items.
Improve the exterior. HGTV says that curb appeal is crucial to making a strong first impression. A messy or lackluster landscape can turn buyers away even before they reach the front door. Mow the lawn and make sure shrubbery has been trimmed. Seasonal potted flowers and plants can help make the house look polished. Repair cracks or damaged walkways, and consider a fresh coat of paint on trim around windows and doors. Pressure-wash siding if necessary.
Put things in storage. Rent a storage unit to house items that can make a home appear cluttered. Clean out closets and cabinets, so that when buyers “snoop” during appointments or open houses they see orderly storage areas. If closets are brimming with stuff, buyers may assume the house doesn’t have enough storage space and move on.
Make it light and bright. Open up all of the drapes and blinds, and turn on overhead lights so the house is well-lit. Add table lamps or other fixtures to especially dim rooms.
Create a hotel experience. Forbes suggests making bathrooms look like a spa. Stack a few pretty washcloths tied with ribbon, add some scented candles and faux plants and buy bathmats and towels in coordinating tones.
Remove extraneous items from kitchen counters and replace them with vases of flowers. In addition, set up dining spaces as if one were sitting down to a meal, and ensure appliances are sparkling clean.
Use common ‘scents.’ Skip the fish, bacon or other aromatic meals for a few days, as such foods can leave lingering aromas. Baked goods, vanilla and cinnamon might make for more appealing scents.
Making a home sell fast involves preparation and the knowledge that buyers are often greatly influenced by their first impressions.

DID YOU KNOW? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, air currents can carry pesticides that were applied to nearby properties. That means even people who do not apply pesticides in their lawns and gardens can still be at risk of exposure to these potentially harmful chemicals. People concerned by the prospect of being exposed to the pesticides being applied by their neighbors can stay indoors with their children and pets while the substances are being applied. Those who live near fields and parks where pesticides are routinely applied can plant hardy, thick-branched trees to reduce their risk of airborne exposure. The EPA notes that such plants and shrubs can serve as buffers against airborne pesticides, essentially acting as walls around a property that prevent gusty winds from blowing pesticides into yards and gardens.

HIKING: Hiking is a fun activity that can be enjoyed nearly year-round, but it’s especially enjoyable in the fall. That’s because few things in nature are as captivating as a park or forest when the fall foliage is in full bloom. Early fall also boasts ideal temperatures for hiking, as the mercury likely won’t rise enough or sink low enough to produce the kind of extreme temperatures that can compromise a hiker’s afternoon. Instead, fall temperatures tend to be mild and comfortable, allowing hikers to fully enjoy their often beautiful surroundings.
