Level: Advanced Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

OBITUARIES HERBERT “HERB” BONSOR
JOAN (CAULKINS) FAULKNER
BATH, NY: Herbert “Herb” Bonsor passed away peacefully at his home in Bath, New York on December 12, 2024. Herb was born on February 20, 1931, to his parents, Albert and Doris Bonsor and was the younger brother to Dick and Joe. Herb was a proud graduate of Haverling High School class of 1949. Being a patriot at heart and following in his brothers’ footsteps of service to his country, Herb served in the Navy as a Medic during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. After the Navy, he attended Syracuse University, where he studied medicine, and later to Ithaca College, where he majored in physical therapy. Herb had a 40+ year career as a Physical Therapist at the old Bath hospital, Bethesda Hospital in Hornell, and finally at the Bath Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he retired. Herb married Pat Husted on December 10, 1960. They had two children, Michael and Susan. Herb enjoyed traveling with Pat on many a bus trip, always making new friends and collecting stories along the way. His love for military shows and old westerns was well-known, as was his penchant for a good cup of coffee, a tasty burger and the anticipation of peanut brittle every Christmas. Herb was pre-deceased by his parents; brothers, Dick and Joe; his son, Mike in 2021; wife, Pat in 2022 as well as many cherished friends and relatives. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Narby; son in law, Steve; grandsons, Liam and Ethan Narby; granddaughter, Lilith Bonsor as well as many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Herb’s 93 years of courage and quiet strength was matched only by his humor, which remained intact even as he faced his final days with the same resolve he demonstrated throughout his life. A huge heartfelt thank you to the caregivers that helped keep him comfortable in his own home this year: JoAnn, Tatiana, Lori, Sis, Kim and Porchea as well as the Care First staff. A private military service with honors will take place at the Bath National Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Bath American Legion Post 173, 14 East William Street, Bath, New York.
BATH, NY: Joan (Calkins) Faulkner, age 84, of Bath, New York passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Updyke’s Willow Ridge in Hornell, NY where she had resided for almost two years.

She was born in Avoca, New York to the late Demerville “Buster” and Carol (Stickney) Calkins. She married Denny Faulkner on July 6, 1991, who also predeceased her in 2022. He was the love of her life. She was also predeceased by her son, Steven Ohradzanski; brother, Donald Calkins; in-laws, Richard and Norma Faulkner, and sister-in-law, Sandra Dow. Those that survived her that she loved dearly, her daughters, Carol Ohradzanski (Mark) of Cohocton, NY and Dawn Loveday of Tennessee; brother, Richard (Linda) Calkins; sister-in-law Annette (Frank) Failing; grandchildren, James (Rachel) Brandow, Erica (Shawn) Sweers, Mackenzie and Avery Beckmann; great grandchildren, Aspyn, Lux, Duke, Sawyer, Colson, and Layton. She also left behind many nieces and nephews. Mom worked as a teacher’s aide at Avoca Central School for 26 years before retiring in August of 2000. She enjoyed working in her gardens and making their yard look beautiful after her retirement. Mom was a long-time member of the VFW in Bath and loved to go visit with the people. She was a member of TOPS for many years. She also loved NASCAR and Jeff Gordon as her driver. Mom was a very special lady who wore her heart on her sleeve. Forgave often and always tried to look at the good in people. She enjoyed going up to their cabin and playing around with the flower gardens while Denny made the lawn look perfect at their little hideaway. They loved sitting up there watching the wildlife, chatting, and having a cocktail. Mom’s heart died when she lost Steven and then Denny. Those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Avoca Historical Society, the Bath SPCA, or to the donor’s choice. A private funeral for the family was held on Thursday, December 19, 2024. The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., AVOCA was honored to assist Joan’s family with the arrangements. Online condolences or remembrances of Joan are welcome at www.bishopdesanto.com or on the Facebook page of Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home.
FREIDA D. FIORDO BATH, NY: Freida D. Fiordo, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital. Born on February 19, 1937, in Bath, NY, Freida’s life was a tapestry of dedication, service, and joy that touched all who knew her. Freida’s early life in Bath was marked by academic excellence. She graduated from Haverling High School in 1954 as Valedictorian, a testament to her intelligence and work ethic. Her classmates fondly remembered her as “our dependable classmate,” a phrase that would define her in every aspect of her life. For over three decades, Freida served with distinction as the “Secretary to the Director” at the Bath Veterans Hospital. Her colleagues would often half-jokingly refer to her as the shadow director, a nod to her indispensable role and the respect she commanded. Upon retirement, Freida’s adventurous spirit took her and her beloved mother, Rosie, on a memorable cross-country journey, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Freida was a pillar of her community, deeply involved in her family’s life and an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She lived a life of service, volunteering for various organizations and always ready to lend a helping hand. Her kindness was not just a trait but a gift she freely gave, touching the lives of many. An avid New York Yankees fan, Freida found joy in cheering on her favorite team. Her love for the game was only matched by her love for her family and friends. She was the embodiment of love, kindness, and humor, bringing laughter and warmth to every gathering. Freida was predeceased by her father, Antonio Fiordo; her mother, Rosa Fiordo; her brothers Frederick and Michael Fiordo; and her nephew Mark Fiordo. She leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity, which will be carried on by her family members Michele and James Walker, Nancy Fiordo, Freida and Bob Wheeler, Chris Minichello and her many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. As we bid farewell to Freida D. Fiordo, we remember a life well-lived, a heart full of love, and a spirit that will continue to inspire. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated, as she rests peacefully, having left the world a better place through her presence. Family and friends are invited to St. Mary’s Church in Bath on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00AM for the visitation, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon with Father Jim Jaeger as celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Memorial donations in Freida’s name may be made to the St. John Vianney Parish, 32 E. Morris St., Bath, New York 14810. Condolences may be made at www.fagansfuneralhome.com.

Each mumbered row contains two clues and two answers. The two answers differ from each other by only one letter, which has already been inserted. For example, if you exchange the A from MASTER for an I, you get MISTER. Do not change the order of the letters. Writing a Sympathy Card An authentic handwritten message can mean a lot to someone dealing with grief. It shows that you’ve sat down and thought about it as opposed to buying a pre-written card. Sharing fond memories and sincere feelings is a respectful way to remember the passing of a loved one and to offer condolences to their friends and family. If you’re able to offer support, then definitely mention this in your sympathy card. Those grieving will often have lots to do and will appreciate any help you may be able to offer even if they don’t take you up on it.
What to know about hospice at home The philosophy behind hospice is that people should be able to live as fully and as comfortably as possible through the last days of their lives, surrounded by loved ones and friends. Hospice treats the symptoms of illness rather than trying to be curative. Hospice also does not try to postpone nor accelerate death. The American Cancer Society says hospice care is offered by a team of professionals who work together to manage distress, symptoms and spiritual issues. Services also are offered to family members, including access to counselors and bereavement experts. Hospice workers help family members make decisions and plan care. Hospice is a form of care, rather than a place. Saying a person is going into hospice means he or she will begin to receive this type of palliative care. While hospice can take place in a center that only offers this type of service, a hospice team can work in a variety of settings, including one’s home. Many people receive hospice care at home. VNS Health provides care in spaces patients call home and says that hospice care can include administration of medications, arrangement of equipment (like beds and oxygen) and visits from a hospice care team. A hospice team may include nurses, social workers, physicians, therapists, and even clergy who come to the home to offer support and care. Home hospice care begins with a team member visiting with a terminally ill person and his or her family. During a visit, needs will be addressed and the hospice team can arrange for desired services. Members of the hospice staff will visit regularly to check up and make sure that any symptoms are under control. Families are urged to do their homework to find the best program for their needs. Learn all you can from the mistakes of others. You won’t have time to make them all yourself. ~Alfred Sheinwold (1912– 1997), unverified

Here’s A Tip By JoAnn Derson * “Save egg cartons for children’s painting palettes. It’s very easy to give kids a small amount of many colors, and they don’t spread them out and run them together as quickly when they are each in their own cup. Plus, they are easy to carry.” -- O.L. in Utah * Remove price tag residue off hard surfaces with hairspray. Or WD40 works well too. * Make your own frozen dinners by purchasing divided trays and using them to store leftovers. Slip each into a plastic bag and label. On busy nights, you can take your favorite out and microwave it. * “A beautiful but stained or worn tablecloth can find a new life at your dinner table. Cut into napkin sizes, and give any frayable ends a hemming.” -- A.S. in Oregon * A great winter tip that’s double purpose: After your dishwasher has done its job, open the door and let the dishes air dry rather than machine dry. You’ll save on energy, while you add warmth and humidity to your home’s air.
A NOTE OF GRATITUDE to the Campbell Board of Fire Commissioners. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to board members JoAnne Tulanowski, Chris Baird, Ron Morse, and Tony Tulanowski for your dedication and efforts throughout this past year. Your commitment has significantly contributed to the success and advancement of the Campbell Fire District. Some of the notable achievements under your stewardship: Expansion of our policy and procedure documentation has established a robust framework, ensuring consistency and efficiency in both district and departmental operations. A thorough review of past budgetary practices has led to significantly more transparent financial management. This review has been instrumental in aligning our expenditures more closely with our actual needs, thereby enhancing our budgeting for future years. Regarding the proposed addition of truck bays to the 415 building, although initial bids exceeded expectations, prudent decision-making led to the project’s scope being revised. We look forward to further developments post the re-bid process in early 2025. Team cohesion, knowledge sharing, and dedication beyond the required meetings have been exemplary. Despite your roles being voluntary, your commitment has ensured that the district not only met its budgetary constraints, but also excelled in equipping and training our teams to deliver superior service to our community and mutual aid partners. Thank you for your invaluable service and for setting a high standard of volunteer governance. Happy Holidays! to the board and all of our volunteer fire department members.

RENOVATIONS THAT PROVIDE A STRONG RETURN ON INVESTMENT Manufactured stone veneer: A manufactured stone veneer is a man-made product that appears as if it’s natural stone. Many homeowners prefer manufactured stone veneer to natural stone because of the price, as the former is less expensive and easier to install, which means lower labor costs as well. The comparatively low cost of manufactured stone veneer is perhaps one reason why it averages a roughly 153 percent ROI on an average cost of just more than $11,000.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT EATING BEFORE A WORKOUT How much should I eat before exercising? It’s unlikely anyone is going to want to eat a large meal before a workout. Doing so will undoubtedly affect performance in a negative way, particularly if you’re eating shortly before a workout. The HSS notes that the further away a workout is from the time a person eats, the larger and more mixed that meal can be. According to the HSS, the general guideline around eating and exercise is: • A full meal three to four hours before exercising • A higher carbohydrate snack two hours before exercising and/or a small, easily digested carbohydrate right up until the start of a workout

Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns, December 14, 2020: This instant classic was witnessed in person by just under 12,000 fans, as restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic were in place. Those lucky fans got a night to remember, as the game proved to be the highest scoring battle between the two AFC North rivals. Lamar Jackson led a Ravens comeback after briefly exiting the game with cramps. The teams combined to score 35 points in the fourth quarter, including a 44-yard strike from Jackson to wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on his first play after returning. The Ravens won the thriller 47-42.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: We are bringing our new dog, “Mara,” with us to visit relatives in Ohio this Christmas. DEAR DAVE AND DIANE: The best advice is to plan, plan, plan around Mara’s needs during your drive to Ohio. As an energetic dog, Mara needs frequent walk breaks to get out of the car and work off some energy. You’ll also need to stay at a pet-friendly hotel if you’re not driving straight through the night.
AKC Labrador puppies: chocolate, black, and yellow. 7 males, 6 females. First Shots and Vet checked. Loving family raised. Ready for forever homes 1/12/25. Call 607-794-4141
Here are some important tips as you prepare: -- Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date, and carry a copy of her records. -- Consider microchipping your dog before the trip if you haven’t done so, and make sure an ID tag is attached to her collar.
RISK FACTOR FOR MOLD INFESTATION IN A HOME Outdoor drainage: Maintaining effective outdoor drainage is another way to prevent mold growth in a home. This typically requires maintaining gutters and drains so they do not become clogged during or after rainstorms. Gutter guards can prevent gutters and drains from clogging. Homeowners also may want to work with a landscaper or landscape architect to ensure soil around the house slopes away from the foundation, which can prevent water from pooling near the walls. When water pools near the walls, this can contribute to foundation problems and make it easier for mold to grow.
-- Pack a bag just for Mara with her preferred food, treats, toys, cold weather gear and medications. Add an extra leash and collar just in case.

DEAR DR. ROACH: I was wondering whether Ozempic might be prescribed for somebody who gained weight due to antipsychotics or drugs for depression. I read some years ago that the weight gain associated with antipsychotics had something to do with blood sugar levels (or some other metabolic reason). -- K.

ANSWER: You are quite right that many

medications, including some antipsychotic and antidepressant medicines, are commonly associated with weight gain. There are many mechanisms at work here, but the blood sugar increase is probably secondary to the weight gain, rather than the other way around. Some medicines are worse than others, so a wise prescriber chooses the least-harmful option when possible. But sometimes the only medication that works for a mental health issue does cause weight gain.

BRIGHTER Winter weather is no match for Western NYers! The DPW Highway Departments here are amazing, salting and plowing, removing leaves and yard debris for residents. I grew up all over New England, so we saw snow every year, but the sheer volume of snowfall here is breathtaking, but even more amazing is how quickly and efficiently people here are able to resume their normal daily routines. Three inches, no problem, everyone goes about as normal. Six inches, plows do great and all's back to normal. A foot? Two feet? Constant snowfall for 24hrs? No problem. Plow people kick into high gear and keep the roads clear. Residents keep sidewalks reasonably clear and clear out around hydrants. It's just ... normal and so amazing to be able to enjoy the full winter season. Thank you to everyone who helps out in whatever way they can.
Side street traffic gets in sometimes To the person who let me in when traffic was backed up for half a mile and everyone else just passed right by, pretending not to notice I was there, thank you! Traffic in that stretch often rivals a city or something, but usually the side street traffic gets waved in every few cars. Not today. Everyone had places to go, people to see, off in their own worlds, I guess. So again, thank you. We can all use a little extra patience and let a car in every now and then when traffic is backed up.

Humble Holiday Celebrations Thank you, everyone who keeps it simple with your kiddos. Some of us do not have a lot extra to spend on our children this holiday (or any year), and it always adds to the stress when some people lavish their children with so much 'stuff' for gifts. Yes, we all know you have money. Yes, you're allowed to spend your money however you want, so yes of course feel free to gift to your children. Just please be mindful that it might be nice to raise your kiddos a little mindful of all who don't have what you have!
True meaning of Christmas Coming home from work I have noticed the Christmas decorations in areas I have to drive through. There is one that caught my eyes, the Nativity scene. This is the true meaning of Christmas.

For decades, psychiatrists and others have prescribed metformin to help with weight gain due to medications. It’s certainly better than nothing, but you are right that semaglutide (Ozempic when prescribed for diagnosed diabetes and Wegovy when prescribed for weight loss) will be more effective. A 2023 study showed that semaglutide was effective for people who gained weight due to psychiatric drugs and did not respond to metformin. Getting insurance companies to cover these expensive medications is often the biggest barrier.
DEAR DR. ROACH: You recently wrote about colitis, aka inflammation of the colon. Could you please explain how to treat and prevent it? -- M.C. ANSWER: ”Colitis” does mean inflammation of the colon, but it isn’t just one disease. It’s a finding that is associated with many diseases, so treatment depends on the exact cause. Colitis can be due to infection. Diseases like diverticulitis and gastroenteritis are inflammatory due to the presence of a pathogen. A pathogen is an unhealthy germ in the colon that leads to symptoms such as fever and diarrhea. Often these infections do not need antibiotics, just support until the body gets rid of the infection itself. Other infections are more serious, like Clostridioides difficile (“C. diff”), which is lifethreatening and requires powerful treatment. Microscopic colitis diseases are unusual and possibly autoimmune. They are sometimes triggered by medications and treated with antiinflammatory medicines such as budesonide. The underlying cause of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis) still isn’t well-understood. Although anti-inflammatory medicines like steroids still form part of the treatment for IBD, current treatment uses biological agents to target molecules that form part of the disease response -- without the longterm toxicity of steroids. There are many other causes of colitis. Treatment is highly variable, and prevention isn’t always possible. Still, a healthy diet with a large variety of foods, especially plants, will help keep your colon in the best shape to ward off infections. It’s much easier to get an infection after antibiotics, for example, since the healthy bacteria are largely killed off. I do not recommend probiotics in healthy people. Your microbiome -- the “suite” of bacteria, viruses and other microbes that live in your gut -- respond better to a good diet than a large number of limited bacteria. There is almost no evidence of benefit when it comes to probiotics in healthy people. Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual questions, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. DID YOU KNOW? 3 TIPS TO TO UPDATE A RESUME TO ALIGN WITH THE MODERN JOB MARKET The job market can be unpredictable. Though reports on jobs suggest the market is now flooded with openings, working professionals looking to change careers or switch firms know the reality of modern job hunting is no walk in the park. Reports indicate that there was an average of one opening for every two applicants on the professional social networking site LinkedIn at the onset of summer 2023. Professionals also are contending with a job market in which firms that hurried to hire applicants during the pandemic are now being more deliberate with their hiring process, sometimes interviewing candidates as many as six times before concluding the process. In addition, a 2023 survey from TIME/Harris Poll found that 52 percent of applicants with a bachelor’s degree or higher completed an interview process without receiving a job offer. There’s no denying the difficulty professionals seeking new jobs face when they begin their search. Though there’s no guarantee the right opportunity will come along quickly, professionals can update their resumes in three notable ways to increase the chances their applications are seen. 1. Write a new summary. The professional resources experts at Indeed recommend individuals write a new summary of their work history that reflects their qualifications for any job they intend to apply for. Consider past accomplishments, tasks and responsibilities that are applicable to each opening and emphasize those in the summary. For example, individuals aspiring to move up to management level can emphasize past experiences in which they took on a supervisory role to complete a project. 2. Include important keywords. The frustration many modern professionals feel when looking for new opportunities may stem from how easy it can be to apply for a job but never hear back. Indeed notes that many hiring managers utilize applicant tracking system (ATS) software when considering applications. Such programs scan resumes for predetermined keywords, discarding applications that do not include them. Reading each listing carefully can shed light on which keywords to include, as the right terms tend to be right there in the job description. Indeed also advises mentioning the company’s name and exact position title in the summary statement or career objective section. 3. Don’t forget the person who will read your resume. Though ATS software plays an integral role in modern hiring, eventually a human being will see the resume if it gets past the ATS portion of the vetting process. Before submitting a resume, read it several times to ensure it reflects your accomplishments, talents and aspirations and not just the keywords that will get the document seen by human eyeballs. Numerous resumes will get past the ATS software, so it’s imperative that the resume illustrates a candidate’s qualifications and talents. Modern job seeking is time-consuming and often frustrating. Getting past the vetting process involves updating a resume so applicants can use the modern hiring process to their advantage.
Atrial fibrillation, often referred to as “AFib,” is more common among men than women. Johns Hopkins Medicine notes AFib is caused by extremely fast and irregular beats from the upper chambers of the heart. Males are more likely than women to develop AFib, though that does not mean the condition is not a threat to women. In fact, age is a significant risk factor for AFib, and a report from Henry Ford Health noted that women tend to live longer than men, which could explain why there were more women living with AFib in 2020 than there were men. The condition also manifests differently in men than women. HFH notes that high blood pressure and heart valve disease are more likely to lead to AFib in women, while coronary artery disease and a history of heart attack are most common risk factors for AFib in men.
MEMORABLE GAME FROM THE LAST DECADE OF NFL FOOTBALL Buffalo Bills at Kansas City Chiefs, January 23, 2022: This exciting matchup was entertaining throughout, but fans will likely point to the fourth quarter of the game as some of the most memorable football they’ve ever seen. Star quarterbacks Josh Allen of the Bills and Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs put on a show, and the teams combined for 25 points over the final two minutes of regulation. Those final two minutes included a stunning drive orchestrated by Mahomes, who led the Chiefs on a 44-yard drive in just 13 seconds to score a game-tying field goal and force overtime. The Chiefs won the subsequent overtime coin toss and scored a touchdown on their first drive to pull off an improbable 42-36 win.

TIPS TO DINING OUT AS A FAMILY Check for food allergies/ restrictions: Nowadays it is essential to be mindful of people’s diets, including foods that they may have to avoid. Individuals will want to alert the restaurant staff of any special needs well in advance to ensure their needs are accommodated.
ALL YOU NEED FOR A MEMORABLE NIGHT OUT Add a touch of adventure: Experiences with perceived risk or adversity can elevate the sense of enjoyment and camaraderie. While no one is condoning doing something illegal or dangerous, incorporating a bit of adventure into the night can bring about growth and make the experience worth talking about in the future. This may be a reason why escape rooms have grown in popularity. One idea is to explore a new city or town and let other tourists suggest places to visit. Don’t stay in one place too long so the adventure keeps evolving.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT EATING BEFORE A WORKOUT What makes for a good pre-workout snack? If you won’t be eating a full meal before a workout, various mini snacks can provide energy without adversely affecting performance. Pre-workout snacks that are low in fat and fiber are ideal, as the body can digest such foods quickly. The HSS notes half a banana, a small serving of applesauce or a handful of crackers or pretzels are a good pre-workout mini snack. A larger snack eaten a little further away from a workout can include some hummus or peanut butter. The Mayo Clinic notes yogurt, a fruit smoothie or a low-fat granola bar also make good pre-workout snacks.
DINING ROOM CONVERSION IDEAS Many homeowners can undoubtedly take a stroll through their homes and find at least one space that could be repurposed to provide more functionality. Real estate professionals know that such sentiments are not uncommon, and many point to formal dining rooms as spaces that have fallen out of favor in recent years. Formal dining rooms were once common in newly built homes, but the pivot toward open concept floor plans left it up to homeowners to decide if such spaces were for them. In a 2017 book published by the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press, authors used cameras to monitor life in many people’s homes, including how they used each room. The authors concluded that formal dining rooms were rarely used for eating. If that sounds a lot like home to many current homeowners, then it might be time to consider some ideas to convert formal dining rooms to make these spaces more functional. · Home office: Though the percentage of professionals working remotely has dipped considerably since the end of the pandemic, hybrid working is perhaps among the more lasting work-related byproducts of COVID-19. In its Global State of Remote and Hybrid study published in early 2024, the career networking resource LinkedIn noted that 13 percent of jobs posted to the platform were for hybrid positions. That means millions of workers can still utilize an accommodating home office space. A formal dining room can be converted to provide such a space, and the good news is that such a conversion need not require extensive renovations. A fresh coat of paint, an additional outlet or two and perhaps a new overhead lighting fixture can instantly transform the space at minimal cost. · Reading room/library: Homeowners who dream of having a designated space for quiet reading can convert a little-used formal dining room into a space to curl up with a good book. Some comfortable armchairs, built-in bookshelves and perhaps an expanded floor-to-ceiling window overlooking a side or backyard can help homeowners create a home library that will be the envy of any avid reader. · Studio space: If there’s a resident yogi and/or artist living under the roof, then converting a dining room into a yoga or art studio, or perhaps even a hybrid space for those who enjoy both activities, is a no-brainer. A yoga studio conversion may not require as much investment as a kitchen overhaul or bathroom renovation, but an ideal home yoga space requires more than a mat and room to stretch. The Yogapreneur Collective notes that flooring in a yoga studio should be non-slip, easily cleaned, durable, sound-absorbing, and low maintenance. The Yogapreneur Collective asserts that different flooring materials may be ideal for certain types of yoga, noting that cork flooring is a go-to choice for professional studios that offer hot yoga. Similarly, the right flooring for an art studio may depend on the artist’s preferred medium, whether it’s oil painting, arts and crafts or another artistic pursuit. But any artist knows that a floor that’s easy to clean is perhaps best for a home art studio. · Additional ideas: Some additional ways to repurpose a dining room include a gaming room for avid gamers, a memorabilia showcase for collectors or a pantry for foodies who love to cook but need some extra space to store ingredients and tools of the trade. If a formal dining room is only utilized on occasion, homeowners may want to consider the many ways to convert such spaces into areas that are more usable every day.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR NEXT EYE EXAM
Special photography: The eye doctor may utilize specialized imaging equipment that will take digital images of the eyes to diagnose various retinal, optic nerve and corneal conditions.
Vibration: Vibration is another issue drivers may feel rather than see. And identifying the cause requires noting where the vibrations are felt. Geico® notes that a feeling of vibration or thumping that feels like it’s coming from under the seats may indicate the tires are not balanced. A suspension issue could be to blame if the steering wheel feels like it’s vibrating. Either feeling should be brought to the attention of a mechanic immediately.

DID YOU KNOW? Drivers can thank the military for the introduction of sport utility vehicles to the mainstream market. Predecessors to modern SUVs date back to military models from the late 1930s, and four-wheel-drive station wagons and other vehicles that were introduced in the late 1940s. However, many car enthusiasts feel the 1984 Jeep Cherokee was the first SUV in the modern style. In 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency reported that SUVs made up 44.67 percent of all light-duty vehicles produced that year, compared to 25.69 percent of market share for sedans and wagons. In fact, as of 2023, many major automakers had announced plans to phase out many of their popular sedans. General Motors dropped nearly all passenger cars from its North American portfolio. Dodge dropped the Challenger and Charger; Acura removed the ILX model; the Chrysler 300 is no more; and Nissan no longer offers the Maxima. These are just some of the effects of the popularity of SUVs and also part of a larger shift toward the production of electric vehicles.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR VEHICLE’S PAINT JOB Wax the exterior of the vehicle. The automotive experts at Carfax® report that waxing is a significant and simple way to protect vehicle paint. Carfax® notes that certain paste waxes contain mild abrasives that help remove fine scratches from painted surfaces. Wax also can protect paint jobs from fading related to exposure to ultraviolet rays. That’s especially noteworthy for drivers who do not routinely park their cars in a garage.
