Leslie will be working from next week until September. Her job is to organize recreation activities for youth & children. These activities could include soccer, hockey, swims, field trips to do active things like hiking or canoeing, camping trips, or whatever else that is active that the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw youth are interested in.

Leslie Taylor Child (Band Manager Les Taylor’s daughter) was hired last week as the new Youth Recreation Coordinator for the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Nations! Seven other people applied for the job. Leslie was chosen because she is a Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw Band member, she already has lots of ideas about recreation activities for the summer (including trips to the home lands!) and she is a great role model for other youth in the community. For example, she has graduated from high school and is taking college courses to work towards becoming a social worker. She volunteered at her church’s daycare in Victoria, and she recently competed in the Salmon Princess contest in Alert Bay.
