Job Posting for: Executive Assistant to Chief Negotiator, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations Purpose of Position: The Executive Assistant provides lead support to the Chief Negotiator in preparation for treaty negotiations and the day-to-day operations of the Treaty Office.
Responsibilities: Administrative Functions:
Prepares reports, briefs, newsletter articles, and correspondence. Oversees filing system (s) and library. Develops and edits correspondence.
Financial Responsibilities: Prepares an annual budget for approval of the Chief Negotiator. Ensures expenditures adhere to budget; monitors and forecasts expenditures. Prepares financial/narrative reports for funding agencies. Community Engagement/Project Development Assists with research, development and implementation of project proposals. Works with the Treaty Advisory Committee and related groups as directed. Supervision: Supervises contract/term staff hired for projects/events within the Treaty Office by development of contracts/deliverables, monitoring tasks, guiding outcomes and ensuring report functions.

Supervises employees of the Treaty Office under the direction of the Chief Negotiator.
Required Skills and Qualifications: Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in a senior administrative position, including minimum of 5 years’ experience supervising staff. Skills/Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Good negotiation skills. Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive. High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information. Ability to conceptualize and manage projects (including human and financial resources), produce results, and meet expectations on a wide range of projects of a complex and diverse nature. Strong budgeting skills. Superior time management and problem solving skills. Knowledge: Knowledge of BC’s treaty process and issues, especially the history and unique circumstance of the Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw Nations (G-N). Knowledge of First Nation legal, political and social frameworks in general.
