Interviewed by Jennifer Diaby Please introduce and tell us a little bit about yourself. Greetings! My name is Ashley L. Isreal, and I’m from Marion, SC! As a Bill and Melinda Gates scholar recipient, I have earned a scholarship that paid for my three degrees: a bachelor's degree in business administration at Winthrop University, a master's degree in higher education and student affairs at the University of South Carolina, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership with a focus in psychology at Clemson University. Currently, I serve as the interim Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at Winthrop University. Reporting directly to the Vice President, I serve as one of the key members of the Division of Student Affairs. I collaborate with individuals across campus to actively drive the Vice President's initiatives and the Division's strategic plan forward. My primary job function consists of providing administrative, programmatic, and project management support in dealing with a wide range of divisional and institutional issues and projects. As an individual who strives to become a Vice President for Enrollment Management at a comprehensive or research institution one day, I am thankful that God has positioned me in an environment beside an effective leader where I can grow more professionally. Outside of my primary job duties, I take on more of an entrepreneurial lens. Over the past few years, I have developed Isreal Educational Consulting, LLC., and established the Academic Leadership Institute. Additionally, I am a Branding photographer. The name of my photography business is called Noah’s Art Photos. You believe in the importance of education, tell us the services you provide with Isreal Education Consulting? As an initiator, self-starter individual, I developed an educational consulting business to assist higher education constituents and students. The services that I provide include developing curriculum, assisting with getting students enrolled in graduate school, and presenting scholarship workshops. As a Bill and Melinda Gates scholarship recipient, I find the need to continue supporting underrepresented individuals to become financially free by assisting them in obtaining maximum funding through scholarships. I am currently about to start developing a scholarship course for high school students. For more information, please visit my website at www.isrealedconsulting.com. Tell our readers the reason you created the “Academic Leadership Institute Summit” and its primary mission. “Be the person you needed when you were younger.” Then, pay it forward. If I were to sum up the reason the Academic Leadership Institute (ALI) Summit was created, I would describe it with this quote by author and advocate, Ayesha Siddiqi. There is a profound magic that can occur when young kids are exposed to knowledge that can change their trajectory. My mission is to provide those resources that young students need.

Underneath the umbrella of my LLC., I developed with the assistance of seven other individuals, the ALI Summit for my hometown community. The purpose of the annual summit is as follows: (1) familiarize students with the admission process for colleges, state universities, and private institutions; (2) teach students about finances before, during, and after high school; (3) demonstrate the importance of building good financial credit and generational wealth; (4) inform students about the benefits they will gain from their college and career pathway; and (5) help students plan for their future by aligning college and career choices to their interests and aspirations. In April 2020, you worked on the first “Academic Leadership Institute Summit.” Will you be organizing it annually? If so, what is the date of the next “Academic Leadership Institute Summit” and how can our readers support you? Due to COVID19, we had to postpone the Academic Leadership Institute (ALI) Summit that was scheduled in April. We are currently looking at delivering the summit virtually towards the end of the year or the beginning of 2021. Readers can support the Academic Leadership Institute Summit by contacting us at alisummitPD@gmail.com to become a sponsor. We are going to do giveaways at the Virtual ALI Summit, and all monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

I have seen some of your great photography skills. Please tell the readers about “Noah’s Art” what inspired you to start your photography company and when was it established? If I were to be totally transparent, photography is more like "self-care" for me. Although Noah’s Art Photography was established in 2018, photography has always been my outlet where I can tap into my creative ability since I was eight years old. Almost every Christmas, my parents would purchase me a new camera. This shows how much I actually love photography! After many years of taking pictures for fun, I decided to create a photography business. “Noah’s Art Photography” is named after my child Noah – he is my main source for motivation. I specifically colored the "t" red on the logo to symbolize the blood of Jesus. Also, the "t" stands as the cross for me. I love me some Jesus! Everything that I do, I do it with intent. I always seek Him first to see about provisions. What type of services you offer at your photography company “Noah’s Art”? Nothing brings me much joy than seeing an individual thrive while working in purpose! Since I love seeing people working their purpose, I love even more helping them with their purpose. That is why I am a branding photographer! Meeting new people, building relationships, and creatively expressing myself while I enhance a person’s distinct style or business are a few reasons why I love being a branding photographer. Outside of branding photography, I typically shoot senior pictures and weddings.

Where can people follow you on social media? People can follow me at Noah’s Art Photos on Facebook and Instagram. Please also visit my website at www.noahsartphotos.com. What is one of your greatest accomplishments? Being a mother is simply the greatest achievement of my life. It has taken me on an unexpected journey that can constantly surprise, educate, and challenge me! During my first-year in college, I became pregnant with my son Noah. Not only did I become pregnant with him, but I also became pregnant with a new mindset and a vision for my life. Noah is simply the catalyst that drives me to be the best version of myself. He is definitely my greatest motivation. By being a teacher at heart, I enjoy teaching him everything that I know. Noah is like a sponge – he soaks all of the knowledge up. How do you find balance between home and work being a Mother, Entrepreneur, and a full-time Career Woman? The key is integration. I focus less on balance and more on integrating the different needs in my life. Work-life integration is the new work-life balance for me. Rather than trying to keep things separate, it is about finding a way to integrate the two. It is all about seamlessly blending responsibilities to create a day that is convenient for you. While pursuing my graduate degrees, I learned early on the importance of integration when it applied to my son Noah. I used to take my son everywhere with me on campus. As the President of certain organizations on campus, I use to stay involved with everything. My son would come to all of my meetings and would see his mom in action. Although that was not specifically spending one-on-one time with my child, he did reap the benefits of learning and being exposed to many elements that will benefit him in the long run. Please share any upcoming conferences, events, or workshops? The Virtual Academic Leadership Institute Summit will be held later on in the year or the beginning of next year. I am also creating a course on how to obtain scholarship funding. This project will be started at the beginning of next year as well. Give us some words to educate, inspire, and encourage women and all of our readers of Growth Women’s Business Networks Magazine. If you want to network effectively—then volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to network and meet other like-minded individuals by creating friendships that can last a lifetime. A lot of my life opportunities I found through volunteering and fostering relationships with those people I volunteered with during those experiences. As I was reflecting on my accomplishments one day, I realized this epiphany about myself. Therefore, if you want to get your foot in the door in the workplace, learn to make connections through volunteering. This is an easy way, but many overlook this path that can lead you to your dream career.

Author’s Spotlight

Ashley Silver After years of creating short stories and poems that produced awe-inspiring visuals of love and adventure, Birmingham native Ashley Silver released her second novel “Autoscopy” in May 2020 at Barnes and Noble. The book is available for pre-order now Barnes and Nobles’ digital platform. Silver hopes to help open a new literary avenue for African Americans with the fusion of science fiction, action, history and romance. In “Autoscopy”, Lelani Sanders travels through life with a sense of ineffectuality until she discovers she has the ability to mysteriously catapult through time - landing in the 1800s during the heat of slavery as a completely different girl. After years of being propelled through time, she begins to search for answers to her paradoxical blackouts in order to find her true purpose. She quickly surmises that her choices are not her own and she must fight to survive this world and the next. Silver hopes to accomplish several aspects with the release of “Autoscopy”. “I really want to push the limits of the imagination in regard to African American storytelling,” said Silver. “I realize that there are certain hindrances in our communities. Therefore, I wanted the quest for purpose to be at the forefront of “Autoscopy” to inspire others to never shoot for the road most traveled. You must create your own.” There is also a special dedication to her aunt, Gwendolyn Tucker, in the novel who passed away in April 2020. “I wanted to house a piece of my aunt in the book as well,” Silver stated. “If it weren’t for the strong women in my family, I couldn’t fathom having the courage to complete this project. I want this book to be a testament to never giving up no matter what adversities you face.” The 29-year-old author knew from a young age that writing was deeply engrained in her being. The journey to the publication of her first novel back in 2018 began seventeen years ago when Silver was chosen to attend a Birmingham Young Author’s Conference by her fifth-grade teacher at Sun Valley Elementary School. “Ashley’s intelligent perspectives on life bleed onto her paper as she writes the stories the world needs to hear,” said Jimmie Washington, supervisor of supply chain management at Alabama Power and the co-head of media relations at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church along with Silver. Silver attended Auburn University from 2008-2009; but would go on to graduate from the University of Montevallo in December 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism and a minor in Public Relations. In August 2017, she received her Master of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations from Kent State University. In April 2018, Silver published her first book entitled "Choices" through Amazon. She currently works in internal communications at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. When Silver is not writing, she enjoys spending her days with her husband Larry Silver and their small Shih-Tzu, Reo. Her husband is a self-taught oil painting artist that designed the book cover for “Autoscopy”.

ENTREPRENEUR SPOTLIGHT Interviewed by Jennifer Diaby Please introduce and tell us a little about yourself? My name is Deborah Williams and I’m the founder of D Divine Interior, an interior decorating company based in Houston, Texas. As a 37-yearold mother of four children providing homeowners with their dream décor has been an underlying passion of mine for a long time. Before I transitioned into becoming a full-time entrepreneur I was working as a medical laboratory scientist for nine years. You have a passion for interior decorating, what inspired you to start your business “D Divine Interior”? I was inspired to embark on my business journey due to the joy I find in decorating. I figured why not extend myself and the lovely creations I know I can produce to others and bring them joy. I was contacted by a Home Advisor and started booking clients. Initially, I was hesitant about signing up, but I hit the ground running by enrolling in interior design courses and earning my eDesign certification. I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with clients who want to creatively rework their homes through designing custom furniture such as closets and coffee tables. One of the projects that brought me the most fulfillment was developing a vibrant color scheme composed of black, yellow, and smoked gray. There is a certain thrill that comes along with having the power to fully explore your artistic talents and I am thankful for having chosen this route. Tell the readers more details on what services you offer through D Divine Interior and where are you located? We officially launched in July 2019 and cater to people’s home owning needs by providing a multitude of services which includes: professional organizing consulting, eDesign, and interior design. We serve a wide range of clients extending our consulting and customization expertise to residential neighborhoods in the greater Houston area.

I first started, I was picking up projects here and there while still working in the medical field part-time. After being laid off on three separate occasions, I knew my role in medicine was coming to an end. During this time period when I was in between jobs, I would rearrange my apartment furniture. Every month, I used the decor to bring a different energy to my environment. I often spent my time drawing, cleaning, decorating as a kid, so I carried that artistic side with me into adulthood. Afterwards, everything resurfaced and I realized I put What advice would you give to those who are interested in starting something I loved aside. It was time to hit the ground running to a business in the area of Interior Design? I want to remind those manage my business, and I have not looked back since I got started. who are beginning their interior design careers to stay persistent. When I read that you provide Onsite Consultations to your clients. Explain what services are offered with the Onsite Consultations? At D Divine Interior, we supply clients with onsite consultations; these are exclusive to our interior design and professional organizing consulting services; eDesign is DIY. The first thing I look at before selecting a business to do work for me is their reviews. I read all of your great reviews on your website. Why is it so important to have great work ethics and professionalism in your business? Adding the title of business owner to my portfolio requires hard work and dedication, along with quality service. The success of a business highly depends on its reputation, which is why I value my image. Company reviews are so important because they display what type of service you are providing; what type of business clients are working with; and allows you to take pride in what you are offering to the general public. For instance, I am a very vibrant and down-to-earth person always open to accepting phone calls from my clients. Where can the readers book an appointment for your services if they need Interior Decorating done within their home or office space and they live in your city? For inquiries and appointments, you can visit my website or call me personally. Clients can also contact me through Home Advisor or Thumbtack. I strongly suggest booking appointments in advance so we can allocate the proper resources to fully execute your vision. What is one of your great accomplishments? One of my greatest accomplishments is the overall success of my business. As a mother, things were not always smooth, I often paid people to babysit my children while I worked and attended school. I did not have a constant support system, except for my grandmother who passed away in 2014. Sometimes I feel like I am walking in her footsteps. My grandmother was an entrepreneur herself and operated a waste management company often drafting invoices from her kitchen table. She inspired me to never give up no matter how long it took me to accomplish my goals. Her advice traces back to my collegiate days, which is why I keep striving and don’t quit. This constant drive and motivation always brings success. Please share any upcoming conferences, events, or workshops? Some of my upcoming events and projects include attending the Las Vegas market and launching my online home furnishing store on August 29th. I am very excited to present my store to the public and provide a space where consumers can purchase various home décor products. Give us some words to educate, inspire, and encourage women and all of our readers of Growth Women’s Business Networks Magazine. I would advise women to be prepared to work hard and stay on course. You should brace yourself if you want to start a business. Continue reaching milestones by putting yourself in positions where you are constantly learning and improving. You become better at your craft if surrounded by people who are successful. As a black woman, networking is a vital skill I have learned while obtaining my bachelor’s degree. Positive and influential people can counteract many obstacles. I have dealt with challenges, but despite temporary setbacks I weathered the storm. I am excited to see where my business takes me in the future.

3 Tips to Conquering the Fear of Social Rejection “If I wasn’t so anxious, I could finally____.” You can fill in the blank a few times if you have ever dealt with Social Anxiety. Social Anxiety is rooted in the idea that something about you is wrong. Social anxiety would cause you to want to change something about yourself to fit in or “be normal.” You obsess about being judged. This type of thinking is embedded in comparison with others and robs you of the joys of life and relationships…every time! Consider for a moment that your needs and desires are unique to you! That everything that you are thinking, and feeling are appropriate and timely…for you! Most importantly, there isn’t anything fundamentally wrong with you. This nagging feeling that you will need to change something about yourself in order to fit in or be “good enough” may be stopping you from doing a few things:

Anxiety stops you from being assertive. You deny your own needs and desires so that you appear to be “normal” and “not too much” for others. You worry about being offensive. You stop yourself from disclosing your true needs and desires and resign yourself to be “quiet.” Ask yourself, what your losing when you do this? What needs are not being met? By squelching the light of your uniqueness, you not only deny yourself, your denying others of your friendship and creativity.

The worry keeps you “stuck.” You find yourself procrastinating, telling yourself “I will get to that phone call or that text later.” However, you don’t because anxiety tells you “if you can’t say it perfectly, it can wait.” Anxiety will have you comparing your progress with that of others and telling yourself you’ve been rejected before it’s even occurred. This type of thinking perpetuates fear, self-loathing, and stagnation. Eventually you could fall into sadness because you “waited” and never “won” or made the connections you wanted to make. In these instances, action towards your goals, no matter how small, will help you to feel accomplished. Action is the anecdote. Get moving, respond, in small increments, and let go of time bound outcomes. Let go of your expectations as absolute. Consider each experience as a platform for learning.

The anxiety tells you to withdraw instead of connecting. Your unsure of yourself and you may become indecisive. While you are more concerned about the needs and happiness of others, you fall into “people pleasing.” Everyone else will be happy but your left feeling drained, disrespected, and unappreciated. Pause to consider how being open and vulnerable will allow you to build true connection and friendship. If someone is unwilling to consider your feelings or to meet your needs, would you want them to stay in your life? Consider how your thoughts, ideas, and beliefs are a gift to others. By making connections, you are validating your needs and theirs. Validating yourself and your needs will help you build true and lasting connections with others. Everyone, no matter who you are, desires to feel seen, felt, and heard and we want the validation that our existence matters. Social anxiety brings up feelings of shame and self-loathing that could be from past experiences or just perceived threat of being rejected. However, by considering the tips above you can start on a path towards liberating yourself and overcoming the fear of rejection. If you feel you have the need for professional mental health care, please contact your local mental health facility and/or NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness.

Be Prepared for Higher Taxes

“Tis impossible to be sure of anything but death and taxes." The Cobbler of Preston by Christopher Bullock (1716). This old adage by Christopher Bullock is still true today, but there's actually a third certain thing in life - fluctuating tax rates! The past 50 years includes a roller coaster of increasing and decreasing tax rates depending on the budget needs of the country and the whims of the White House and Congress. Another major election upcoming in November, combined with plummeting state and federal revenue because of this year's pandemic, could lead to higher tax rates in the near future. Now is the time to start thinking about how to structure your finances around higher tax rates. Here are some potential issues you could encounter if tax rates are increased along with some helpful suggestions. Estate Tax Problem: The federal estate tax rate for 2020 is 40% for the value of estate assets which exceeds $11,580,000 ($23,160,000 for a married couple). States and Feds may drastically lower the $11.58M ($23.16M) threshold to tax more of your wealth when you die. They may also increase the estate tax rate over the current 40%. Solution: Create an estate plan or review your existing plan. Consider gifting money or securities to family, friends or a foundation during your lifetime. Individual gifts in 2020 of $15,000 or less ($30,000 for married couples) don't count against the lifetime gift-giving limit. Capital gains tax rate goes up. In 2020, the highest long-term capital gains tax rate is 23.8% (20% capital gains tax rate plus a 3.8% surtax as part of the Affordable Care Act.) In 2005, the highest rate was 15%. Congress could see the sales of long-term securities and other assets as a valuable source of tax revenue by eliminating this preferential tax rate and instead using the ordinary income tax rates (currently as high as 37%). Solution: Actively manage investment profits using your gains against your losses. If you have any assets that have appreciated over time and intend to sell in the near future, consider trading in 2020 to avoid a potential increase in the capital gains tax rates. Higher income taxes. Given the increased government spending during the pandemic without corresponding tax receipts, most experts forecast an increase in overall income tax rates. Solution: An old standby in tax planning is shifting income and expenses. If you're the owner of a private business, consider negotiating contracts with customers to move income from 2021 into 2020. On the expense side, try to do the opposite by pushing as many deductions as possible from 2020 into 2021. For example, you could wait until 2021 to make any major capital acquisitions. Finally, remember your tax-deferred accounts. If planned correctly, you may have time to pay income tax on accounts now and then move them into a tax-free Roth account. The bottom line? Consider your situation now and create a tax strategy so that if or when tax rates go up, you will be as prepared as possible.

Deonte’ Bolden Interviewed by Jennifer Diaby

www.deonteboldenproductions.com

Please introduce and tell us a little about yourself. My name is Deonte’ Bolden, and I am an Actor, Writer, Director, Producer, Author, and Host and Founder of the DNA Podcast. I am a man of God, and I have a passion for the arts. I was born in Washington DC, but I currently reside in Atlanta, GA. I am loving, compassionate, spiritual, fun, inspirational, a go-getter and overall I am motivated to achieve success. You are the CEO/Founder of Deonte’ Bolden Productions. When was your production company established and where is it located? I launched Deonte’ Bolden Productions in 2015 and it’s located in Atlanta, Georgia. I know you have written and directed many productions. What inspired you to start writing/directing independent films and screenplays? I decided to start creating and writing my own content because I wanted to create opportunities for other people. God has placed so many stories inside of me, and I was inspired by so many creative artists to take control of my own career and not depend on others to give me the green light. Writing my own content gives me power to work whenever I want to work, and use my voice to inspire, heal, and encourage other people through my creativity. I found it interesting Deonte’ Bolden productions is a Christian production company that provides ministry through the arts. What made you want to create opportunities to impact lives through Jesus Christ? I was told by my spiritual father and Pastor that you do not have to stand behind a pulpit to minister to people. Creating my own content provides a platform to entertain while ministering to people all over the world. When people watch my productions, they experience different emotions. They cry, laugh, but most of all they come and experience deliverance. They leave the production with a powerful message that will change their lives forever, and that is ministry for me. What advice would you give to aspiring film writers and directors before they get started? First, it is important to know who you are and what stories that you want to tell. People will try to place you in a box and it is important to know who you are before you begin to write and create. The audience wants to get to know your voice and scripts that are a part of the connection with you and your audience. Lastly, I want to encourage writers and directors to go for it and not allow anyone to place limitations on you. Yes, creating a production is not an easy task, but if you are willing to sacrifice and put in the work then you will begin to start seeing the fruits of your labor. That is why it is imperative to know who YOU are and who GOD created YOU to be because once you do then you will not settle for anything less than your best. Do you have any upcoming films or screenplays to be released? I do. I am currently in pre-production for my upcoming short film titled “ The Skin I’m In” which is a three part short film series that touches on the issues of racism and colorism while breaking generational curses. We start filming the short film March of 2021. I am also bringing back my hit stage production “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” in October 2021. We had two sold out shows last year and we will be back to do it again. Tickets will move fast so please stay tuned. What is one of your greatest accomplishments in your career? One of the greatest accomplishments in my career was putting on my successful stage production last year titled “ Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places.” The amount of success and people’s lives who were changed through this production was worth every moment. After that production, I was nominated for awards and it placed me in a category where people know who I am and what I am capable of accomplishing. I truly thank God for it. Deonte’ Bolden, you are the author of an inspirational book titled “Purpose Pains.” Tell the readers about your book and the reason you wrote it? Purpose Pains is an introspective autobiography, where author & playwright, Deonte' Bolden recounts how he overcame a multitude of personal challenges by grace and through his faith in God. The five chapter volume is built around his journeys of Preparation, Adaptation, Illumination, Navigation, and Supplication. In the end this inspirational book will encourage the reader to understand every situation, circumstance, and sometimes painful experience as an opportunity to grow towards a true spiritual awakening. I wrote this book because I wanted to encourage people during their difficult times. It is easy to look at our painful situations as defeat, but I wanted to write a book that will inspire and encourage people to look at every painful situation as an opportunity to grow and help them to not be defined by their obstacles, but to turn their pain into promise. If our readers would like to purchase your book “Purpose Pains” where can they order it? My book is available on Amazon as well as my website www.deonteboldenproductions.com Please share with us any upcoming conferences, events, or workshops. Lyris D. Wallace Instagram: @luvoreos50 facebook.com/lyris.wallace

Chyrel J. Jackson and Lyris D. Wallace are avid lovers, readers and writers of African American Literature. They grew up in a Southern Suburb of Chicago, IL. Country Club Hills. As young girls, they read Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Judy Blume novels. College was the real scholastic awakening introducing these two Literary Enthusiasts to the Literary works of their great ancestors: James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni and Sonia Sanchez. These writers influenced Chyrel and Lyris so much that it only makes sense that they would now be writing in the Spirit of these ancestors. Giving a voice to social issues that plague our modern time. The latest self-published work was a book of poetry named “Different Sides of the Same Coin.” It is a modern and sassy collage of poetry as experienced from the Black female perspective of two sisters who are authors. This timeless collection of poems is refreshing and unique. Different Sides of the Same Coin is a soul searing and heartwarming work of new age black voice and spoken word. This adaptation highlights the human experience of life, love, loss, parting and sorrow. Timeless wording, honestly written with a little of the unexpected. Black Expression has never been more vibrant, relevant and real. This work is an interesting twist on Harlem Renaissance revisited as it collides with 2020 social struggles and conditions of our current time. In no short order we are reminded of why written and spoken word is so vital to the sustenance of African American Literature. The sisters Chyrel and Lyris have written for most of their adult lives in Political Opinion Editorials, Book Reviews, Romance Novels, Television Show Treatments, Journaling and Poetry, in which the sisters enjoy writing best. When asked why they write? The two authors answer is they write for visibility and to say they are present in the world where their lives and stories matter. Chyrel and Lyris want to be a voice for all those who feel they have something of value to say but aren’t capable of putting it in their own words. Words surpass life, love and loss. Whether written, spoken or sung may the readers of our written words find healing and comfort in our poems. Writers are born when life intersects with time and chance. You will always find them doing what they love reading and writing. Through writing and telling stories is how they fulfil their divine purpose. You can’t ignore what is so visible and undeniable because writing saved the authors at their lowest points in life. They hope to provide healing through their writing and uplift others through their pain as writing has uplifted them while it provided great healing in those times of profound despair and hurt. Throughout the Passage of time words remain. WOMEN FASHION Article By: Bernadette Graham

From Less to More Fall 2020

I know summer has been hot and chaotic, but before you know it, fall will be here. It is time to start thinking about swapping out our bikinis, shorts, and tank tops for a little more coverage. Coverage that will show off your ultra-fun fall style! This year’s trends are all inspired by the fashion runways. The past season trends have taken on previous fashion decades. Designers are at a point where their collections are taking a step back in time. These collections can be integrated into anyone’s closet, appeal to a wide age range, and are fun and easy to wear. Are you ready to switch things up?

Versace

Leather was a big trend last season, and designers are sending a message from the runway that leather will continue to trend this season. This year designers are going beyond the traditional designs and colors of leather, such as pants, jackets, black, and burgundy. Now we will see an array of colors in leather, with versatile pieces such as culottes, wide-leg pants, and lux shirts. After going away quietly for the past few seasons, fringing is back in the form of embellished dresses, coasts, and separates; and has become one of the biggest trends for 2020. Not only will a fringed jacket or accessory elevate an everyday outfit, they’ll also teach you how to balance a look. Designers across the board ventured into new and refreshing territory with bodycon. Designers are showing off the bodycon style with floor sweeping long-sleeved dresses. Some designers even went a step further, debuting styles with cut-outs. Ultimately, this year’s bodycon dresses are made to inspire the woman wearing them with confidence and glamour.

This season several designers have been exploring the ‘70s fashion decade. Inspired tailoring and retro sweaters were all down the runway. To work this style, you need all the key components of the ‘70s style which can probably be found in your closet. Master the ‘70s with muted color palette brown, navy, gray.

Burberry Over the past few seasons, statement sleeves have become a regular style on the runway. However, this seasons designers took a different dimension. The trends this fall are guaranteed to transform every part of your style.

ENTREPRENEUR SPOTLIGHT

Interviewed by Jennifer Diaby

Ms. Finn, you are the owner of Thrifty Plus Boutique, a women’s clothing store. When was it established and where is located? The dream to start a boutique began about two years ago in 2018. I originally started by selling barely used items that were worn during the run way or for photo shoots. In 2020, I went full speed and added new items to expand the brand. Tell the readers about Thrifty Plus Boutique. Also, where can they view and even order clothes from your store? Thrifty Plus is an online plus clothing brand to bring comfort and sexiness to plus size women. The official website is www.thriftyplusboutique.com What advice would you give to future business owners? If you’re serious about opening a business, I would say read all you can about business from paperwork to taxes to how to promote and sell. Your business must be something you have a passion for because when you have slow days you have to remind yourself why you started your business. The first year is not be easy, but staying motivated is the key to push you to the next level. I know you have been modeling as a Pluz-Size model for some years, what inspired you to start a modeling career? The inspiration for modeling was actually one night I was watching “The Braxtons” and as I sat there watching and I said God gave them such a beautiful gift of their voices. In that moment God said to me I gave you the gift of Beauty and Empowerment. I started researching plus modeling, even while researching I battled with my self esteem. However, I said to myself what would it hurt, I went to my first audition a week later and was signed to a small agency in Atlanta, Georgia. Earlier this year you became a published Author of a book called “Lemonade: Loving Yourself After the Breakup” Congratulations. Please tell the readers more about your book. WELL!! this book is so dear to me because it speaks about a few of my personal experiences while going through a bad marriage and divorce. Alot of times we as women hide these battles because we don’t want to be looked at in the wrong way. In 2019, I said it is time to release this book to the world, women need to hear how to overcome and see that they are not alone. We overcome by the words of our testimonies, and no longer remain a slave of our past. Yes, it might have been bad, but you made it out so it is time to live the life God has given us to live. “Lemonade: Loving Yourself After the Breakup” where can our readers order a copy of your book? The book can be purchased on Thrifty Plus Boutique website and/or on Amazon. Please share any upcoming conferences, events, or workshops? Currently due to Covid 19 I have no big plans, but to keep pushing the website and taking online orders hopefully in 2021 I can open the doors to my boutique.

Arise and be Whole, King’s Daughter I arrived at the beauty salon earlier than my appointment and quickly grabbed a glossy magazine to kill time. As I patiently flipped through the pages, an article about a celebrity who had finally decided to walk out of an abusive relationship immediately caught my attention. Having put on a mask for some time, she was emotionally and physically bruised. As I read the moving article, I remembered the countless women in the same situation. Some of the women were enduring abuse and believed that God would change their situation. Others were persevering because they could not bear the pain of divorce and the challenges of single motherhood. In my reflection, I wondered: how many women because of fear of stigmatization or in the name of protecting their reputation portray an image of emotional and physical wholeness and yet are bleeding profusely inside? How many accomplished women silently suffer and have not mustered the courage to arise because they have resolved to maintain a facade? How many women endure a loveless relationship because they are threatened by their partners not to share their painful experiences with anyone? How many women stay in abusive relationships because they are victimized to think they deserve it because of their past or even the wrongs they did in the past? Unless some brave sisters arise for their own sake and for the sake of curing society of this ill, we will never know change. Gender-based domestic violence robs defenseless women of their emotional, physical, and spiritual wholeness. Whether a woman makes a choice to persist in an abusive relationship or walk out of it, she still needs healing, restoration and support from other women. One thing is for sure though: one can pretend to be whole for so long. Eventually, a point of emotional and physical breakdown is reached and God forbid that any more lives are lost from violence perpetrated by intimate partners. In my book, The King’s dream for His Daughter! I state: “A woman who knows her self-worth says no to physical, emotional, sexual and verbal abuse. It is in refusing to accept it as your fate or identity that you gain strength to stand against it and eventually get victory.” God our creator knows our embedded worth. If women can undress before a medical doctor, how easy should it be to do the same before God. He is the only one with the proven ability to restore battered women to unimaginable wholeness. In Mark 5, Jairus pleaded with Jesus on behalf of his lifeless little daughter. The King’s daughter knows that God has power to restore lifeless situations back to wholeness. Jairus was an intermediary to connect the lifeless daughter to the resurrection power of God. May God use many women as intermediaries to connect lifeless victims of abuse to the resurrection power of God which restores them to wholeness.
