Go Home! I’ve had it with Starbucks, Panera’s, and all the other coffee houses and fast food establishments that attract customers who patronize these places just so they can hook up to WiFi. These “predators” bring their laptop computers and camp out for hours on end, taking up the most coveted booth and table spaces, which were once dedicated to the eating public, for their own individual business purposes. This practice LEW HIÁRMXIP] KSXXIR SYX SJ LERH where I live. It’s outrageous, and I think it should be stopped!

WALKING IN MY SHOES &] %QFEWWEHSV 6IKMRE &VS[R

I met an invisible man on my way home September 12, 2010. I approached a bus stop where an elderly man with a scruffy grey beard, sad eyes, partially buttoned shirt, jeans and cut out tennis shoes, was casually sitting. As I sat down he asked for the time, I mentioned that I just missed a bus and he continued to talk saying “I am running away from my wife, at 84 years old I am still a coward.” Well what do you say to that? Nothing! So I allowed him to continue.

This man told me most of his life story. His name is Bill, born in Tucson, 1926, married Bertha 63 years ago. He remembered XLI ÁVWX XMQI XLI] LEH WI\ FIGEYWI LI [EW ERH WLI 8LI] had to marry. Most people think he is Native American but he is really half Filipino and half Mexican. His father came to America as a stow away and his mother from Mexico. His mother died in a state hospital and he doesn’t want his wife to end up the same way. Bill and his wife have serious medical problems. He has congestive heart failure, uncontrollable bowl issues and he showed me a large bag of prescription QIHMGEXMSRW LI [EW GEVV]MRK MR E WQEPP HYJÂI FEK He also severed in World War 2 as a medic in the Army. Bill [EW VYRRMRK E[E] JVSQ LMW [MJI FIGEYWI XLI] [IVI ÁKLXMRK He stated that she gets violent and he leaves because he is a coward. He mentioned about how in Mexican culture some men hit their wives so many look at him as if he is not a man. He had been walking for three hours and was trying to decide whether to go downtown or back to the location he was staying. He said he owns a house but there was no water. His wife did not pay the bill. I don’t know if she gambled it away but he mentioned it was hard to keep her out of the casino. Then he shared that he had purchased land for his children. They have three children born several years apart: 1947, 1961, and 1971. None of them built a house on their land but there was a well on the property so that is where he sleeps, bathes and washes his clothes. He explained how someone robbed them of all household possessions so they no longer lived in their home. Bill made me realize there are people all around us that appear invisible. We pass them everyday. They are labeled; elderly, homeless, drug addicts, bums, undesirables, and mentally challenged. We ignore that they have a story and we forget

that they are one of us, human beings. All I could do was listen. He occasionally apologized for needing a bath and a shave. He shared a story that when he was getting his medication from the pharmacy people offered to give him money. He said he had money in his pocket but when he tried to refuse their donation the people insisted so he took it. Bill says a problem people have is we assume too much. He then apologized for using me as a “crying board” as he called it, I was glad that I could be his “crying board”. Bill appreciated me listening to him and allowed me to take his picture. He smiled and I saw he was missing most of his upper teeth except on the right side and two on the right front. I imagine while he was in the military Bill must have helped many a wounded soldier and even saved some lives. Now, wounded himself, he is wandering the streets alone. Maybe Bertha has a right to be mad, maybe Bill, has post traumatic stress disorder and more. One thing for sure, this is only part of Bill’s story. Bill believes “there are two types of people in the world “the haves” and “the have not’s”. He was a “have”, now he is a “have not”. He said for someone to listen and be kind is worth more than money, house or food”. Treating Bill with dignity and respect meant something. He looked at me with sincere eyes and said “We met today for a reason”. Taking a moment to listen to another human being, priceless. I pray I never have to walk in Bill’s shoes, but I am so thankful I saw them. Contact: RS3@Ambassadorbrown.mysite. com, Ambassadorbrown@ juno.com or write - P.O. Box 17594, Tucson, Arizona 85731

What’s

LOVE

Got to do With it? by Dr. Amanda Goodson

This is an age old question to which the answer is made clear in scriptures. “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who so ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 KJV) What’s’ Love Got to do with it? O that we could be as consistent and steadfast in our love for each other as God with us. Often times we attempt to understand love based SR E HMGXMSREV] HIÁRMXMSR [LMGL GIRXIVW SR SYV EXXMXYHI SV emotions. Love is not about how you feel it is about what you do. Love is treating others above what they deserve. This four letter word has been used and abused over the EKIW XS ÁX SYV HMJJIVIRX GMVGYQWXERGIW ERH TYVTSWIW -R our relationships with family, friends and co-workers we sometimes get hurt and feel mistreated. In these emotionally sensitive situations we ask ourselves-what’s love got to do with it? We have to overcome these feelings in order to love others. Remember, one of the most important principals for living is “You should love your neighbor as yourself” Matthew 22:39 (NKJ). In order to love your neighbor you must love yourself! Sounds strange, but sometimes we carry burdens throughout our lives. We hold on to them as if they were diamonds when they are really just heavy rocks. They wear us out and weigh us down. We must learn to let go, forgive and love ourselves so we can do the same for others. God demonstrates his love for us by forgiving us and not holding our past against us. Once you confess with your mouth and ask for God’s forgiveness your past sins are blotted out. Our Heavenly Father does not give up on us. When we discuss true love, we use God’s love as the best example. According to 1 John 4: 7 (NKJ); “love comes from God”. I recently heard a story about a young man who married a woman, who, soon after they were wed was unfaithful to him. One day she left and did not come home. He was heartbroken despite all she had done to him. He went out looking for her and when he found her she was in a bad situation. She was being sold as a slave to the highest bidder by the people who had used and abused her. Her husband paid whatever price they were asking and brought her back home because he loved her - in all her trails - he loved her. This is the story of Hosea and Gomer (read the book of Hosea). It’s a clear answer to the question-what’s love got to do with it? A great big, biblical-everything! God is love. ;LIR ]SY KIX EW HIIT MRXS +SH EW ]SY GER KIX ]SY ÁRH love is his eternal motivation. Thanking God for his mercy should be a part of our daily prayers, because without his love and mercy some of us would be afraid to get out of the bed.
