Braselton to mark 100th anniversary BY CAMIE YOUNG Staff Correspondent

A boy’s dream to start a grocery store more than 100 years ago is just the beginning of the history of one of the most sought-after cities in Georgia. So the new Town Green next to Braselton Brothers Store is the logical and sentimental choice to celebrate Braselton’s 100th birthday this weekend. The celebration is schedule for 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday with food trucks, activities, music and fireworks. “The Braselton Brothers Store is central to our identity,” said Bill Orr, Braselton’s mayor. He is only the second mayor to serve the 100-year-old city who was not named Braselton, so he knows how

Inmates, canines prepare each other for second chances

A former Gwinnett County jail inmate did not think he would step foot back into a detention center after he regained his freedom about three months ago. But Simon Fine, 26, of Snellville again found himself among inmates inside the walls of the Lawrenceville facility Monday. This time, Fine made history. Fine became the first former inmate to reach current inmates through the jail’s closed circuit TV system, said Shannon Volkodav, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. He returned to share his experience with Operation Second Chance, also known as the Jail Dogs program. The program allows men behind bars to prepare rescue animals for adoption. LAWRENCEVILLE — After waiting more than two years, the family and friends of a brutally murdered 26-yearold woman will have to wait even longer for the accused killer to go before a jury. Judge Joseph Iannazzone made the decision a few hours into the trial Tuesday for murder suspect Charles Thomas Outlaw Jr. after Charles Thomas his criminal past was Outlaw Jr. revealed. The prosecution did not remove part of a recording with information about Outlaw’s background. Mention of his record had been redacted because it could have affected the jury’s decision,
