WHEREABOUTS UNKOWN CHARGED WITH MURDER:
These 21 suspects are fugitives accused in Gwinnett homicides By Joshua Sharpe Dominick Crea, a Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office investigator, awoke in bed one Sunday morning to the telephone. The voice on the other end gave news on the whereabouts of a man wanted on multiple murder charges. Crea had been searching for the suspect for years. The prevailing theory was that he was hiding out in God Knows Where, Mexico. Now, the caller told exactly where the accused killer was — all Crea had to do was go get him.
INSIDE A detailed description of each of the homicide cases
His mind raced. Was it a joke? He hung up the phone and laid back in bed. He couldn’t go back to sleep. —— There was a great blast at Ivan Gonzalez’s home on sleepy Spring Mill Drive near Lilburn on Feb. 17, 2011.

Sparked from acetone used in a meth lab, it came with a stunning boom, black smoke and fast flames. The fire crept up the staircase from the kitchen area, where, authorities allege, the broad-faced young Mexican with Jesus Christ tattooed on his calf, had been processing the drug. In an upstairs bedroom, three children were trapped. The kids were ages 4, 3 and 18 months — buoyant, smiling creatures, who liked to pose with silly faces for their mother’s camera, with cake icing on their nose or bows in
their hair. Soon, the mother, Gonzalez’s 22-year-old girlfriend, was outside screaming for help. Neighbors climbed through the window in desperation. The flames lapped against the children’s skin. Smoke filled their lungs. And Gonzalez, the man authorities would hold responsible after the doctor pronounced them dead, was gone. —— Dozens of people are charged with murder every year in Gwinnett County. The
majority of them are arrested in a few hours, days, or, in rarer cases, weeks or months. Another group has a different experience — they vanish. If police theories are correct, these people sent bullets through the skulls of their enemies, jammed knives in the chests of their lovers; they dropped blood near Norcross, Lawrenceville, Duluth, Snellville, Peachtree Corners, Lilburn, and they ran from the consequences, to points all over the world. It’s never too late to find a second love, but sometimes soul mates need a helping hand. Especially when they live over 2,000 miles apart, which was the case for 90-year-old Austin Lent and
86-year-old Gloria Brant. “I really do think it’s a miracle,” Brant said. “I am a Christian and I do believe God orchestrates our lives.” In January, Lent was living in Loganville while Brant resided in Riverside, Cal. — they found each other through the dating website
eHarmony. When they set up their accounts, Lent and Brant were both widowers who had been married to their spouses for around 60 years. Lent said marriage was on his
