his children. “He was just a good guy,” she said. “There’s just not enough that can be said about him. He was an awesome person to everybody.” Ellis said Ferguson was “genuine,” a man who worked hard to provide a good life for his family, would look out for other people and call them to see how they were doing. She said he loved music as well, although she added that he wasn’t always the best singer. SUWANEE — Testing season has arrived in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Monday began a run that could last through May 18 of Georgia MoRe inSiDe Milestones Principals named ................... 2a tests, as about 70,000 students across Gwinnett are set to take about 100,000 tests from third grade through high school. It’s the second year the state has rolled out the Milestones, and there were several tweaks made since last year, said Debbie Durrence, the school district’s executive director of accountability and assessment. Durrence made a Thursday afternoon presentation to the Gwinnett County Board of Education when she reiterated that the results are expected about two weeks after the assessments are given. “We do anticipate that we will see this spring an increase in our student scores,” Durrence said. “Teachers have had an opportunity to really understand the expectations as well as our students. Officials are tight-lipped about details, but the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office is investigating the city of Snellville’s November election, documents obtained by the Daily Post show. The reason for the probe is suspected “mishandling/processing” of provisional ballots, according to a terse case summary the state office released through the Georgia Open Records Act. Citing exemptions in the law, the agency declined requests to provide records of the initial complaint about the Nov. 3 election, in which Mayor Kelly Kautz was ousted by Tom Witts, who led by more than 500 votes, and several council seats were decided. The state hasn’t accused anyone of any wrongdoing in the election. Lynn Ledford, Gwinnett County’s elections director, also looked into an issue with the math of the Snellville election committee and told the Daily Post recently
