DULUTH — Used to performing at a high level on the football field, Kevin Butler has taken on a different perspective with turf in recent years. Playing pro football with the Chicago Bears and college football at the University of Georgia, Butler said his network of connections gave him a lot of different opportunities. Seven years ago Butler joined a company that makes sensors that measure and record moisture levels and water use in a variety of landscape environments. Butler, a Duluth resident, said finding a business that you have pleasure in is a blessing, and one that shows measurable results while helping the environment is a bonus. It’s how Butler spends his time outside of watching his son, Drew, a Peachtree Ridge High and UGA grad, who punts for the Arizona Cardinals. Or serving as an analyst for the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network. Butler, who played for the Chicago Bears from 1985-95, saw a host of his records fall last season to Robbie Gould, including the franchise record for field goals, which was 243. Butler said he has a great relationship with Gould and respect for what he does because he kicked in the same stadium with the same conditions. Working with UgMo Technologies, a King of Prussia, Pa.-based business, Butler has clients that include the cities of Duluth and Roswell, to McDonald’s, Zaxby’s, RaceTrac and the Cobb County Parks and Recreation Department. The system not only saves thousands of dollars, it also conserves water. “We can work with counties and school districts and put money back to where it should be going, not down the street,” Butler said. “The parks and rec department can certainly do a lot more with that money toward

LAWRENCEVILLE — Robert Purcell was trying. He was 40 years old and reportedly living out of his old gray Honda Civic. He was known to sleep in it on Centerville Highway. But the same car took him to and from two jobs, at Marco’s Pizza and Johnny’s New York Tye Stewart Style Pizza down the road. “There was not anything he couldn’t do,” declared Kal Patel, owner of the Marco’s location. Patel couldn’t recall Purcell ever having a conflict with anyone. Purcell got along with everyone, Tremaine the boss said. Washington But someone fought with Purcell over the weekend.

Butler said Duluth spent some of its Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax money on its installation. “Water’s never going to get cheaper,” he said. “To be able to have some control over the usage is a light that goes off. If
