LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett County police are investigating a shooting that left a Papa Johns driver dead during a pizza delivery at Wesley Herrington Apartments. Police were called to 1400 Herrington Road near Lawrenceville regarding a shots fired call late Tuesday night, Cpl. Deon Washington, police department spokesman, announced Wednesday. DACULA — Grab a hat, read with a cat. That was this year’s theme for the annual reading celebration at Alcova Elementary School on Wednesday as part of “Read Across America” a nationwide program to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. So naturally, that’s what guest reader Romeo Lashawn did. He traded an Atlanta Braves hat for the familiar red and white striped version as he visited teacher Abby Crowe’s kindergarten class on Wednesday morning. Gwinnett County firefighters needed nearly 24 hours earlier this week to clean up a possible leak of petroleum product near Ga. Highway 316 and Harbins Road in Dacula. Crews were dispatched at about 1 p.m. on Monday, and they terminated the incident at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, fire department spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. Gwinnett firefighters were requested to assist Colonial Pipeline representatives with the incident in a field and wooded area. See LEAK, Page 7A
Officials mull possible transportation connections between CIDs, arena By Curt Yeomans

Officials from two community improvement districts, and the Infinite Energy Arena, are hoping a partnership with the county’s government will lead to some transportation improvements along Satellite Boulevard. The Gwinnett Village and
Gwinnett Place CIDs, and Explore Gwinnett officials, are working on a transportation corridor study that would “connect the dots” between the three areas, according to Gwinnett Village Executive Director Chuck Warbington. The effort, which is being led by Gwinnett Village, will look at a variety of transportation
options, such as multi-use trails and public transit, as part of the review, Warbington added. “I look at it as our own version of the (Atlanta) Beltline, right here in Gwinnett County,” Warbington said. “It doesn’t go around in a circle, but it’s at least a mini one.
