LILBURN — Gwinnett police recovered the body of a male from the Yellow River between Bending River Trail and Stone Mountain Highway on Saturday. According to Gwinnett police spokesman Sgt. Randy

Work, police received a call about 4:30 p.m. from a man who said he was kayaking down the river when he discovered the body. The caller initially estimated that the body was 40 to 50 feet from the riverbank, Work said. Police, along with Gwinnett County Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Teams, located the body about 6

p.m. and began the hour-long recovery process near the end of Bending River Trail, Work said. Work was unable to comment on how long the body had been in the river or if the body found is that of the missing 14-year-old Parkview student Jaheem McGhee.

PEACHTREE CORNERS — With two weeks until Christmas, it’s easy to get caught up in the decorations, presents and parties. For 24 years, Simpsonwood United Methodist Church has continued a tradition to show that Jesus is the real meaning of Christmas by giving visitors a chance to walk through Bethlehem. “This is our largest outreach to the community,” said Lora King, chairman of the event. “It’s always the second week of December as a way of setting the tone for the holidays. It’s a way to remember the reason for the season.”

A year after opening, Georgia CALLS is expanding. The nonprofit says it has outgrown the space in which it put newly released state inmates to work for Buford answering-service contractor VoiceNation. The group aims to also help manage the convicts’ lives and teach them the skills needed to start their own business. Now, Georgia CALLS is kicking off fundraising for its Campus Dream Project, which includes plans for a new space to replace its location on Enterprise Drive in Buford and more staff, according to a news release. The charity described the project as like its current operation on a “grand scale, with numerous work opportunities, job/life skills training, transitional housing, a food bank, tutoring, after school programs and childcare.” “The Campus Dream Project will enable us to have the greatest impact in the community as possible,” said Mark Mobley, executive director. “It will help us achieve generational change to break the cycle of recidivism.” Tackling recidivism was paramount in the founding of the organization. In Georgia, some 30 percent of inmates reportedly fall to the temptations of crime after they’re released. During the opening ceremony in September 2014, officials from the
