The former Gwinnett police officer who hit two teenagers with his patrol car a little over a week ago has been charged with vehicular homicide. Scott York was booked into the Gwinnett County jail Tuesday at 9:44 a.m. He is charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and driving too fast for conditions. He bonded out of jail at 11:36 a.m. York’s arrest comes the day after Cpl. Michele Pihera confirmed that one of the teens — Jose CoreasScott York Mejia, 16 — involved in the Jan. 29 accident died in the hospital at about 11:30 a.m. Monday. York told investigators he was on his way to a pedestrian injury accident when he tried to pass another car that was in his way by pulling into the center turning lane on Singleton Road. “The vehicle that he was passing began to merge into the center turn lane at the same time the officer was attempting to pass him,” Pihera said. York told investigators he tried to move to the other side of the road to avoid hitting the car. That’s when he reportedly lost control and crossed over the center turn
