Fellow commissioners distance themselves BY CURT YEOMANS

Gwinnett County Commissioner Jace Brooks worried this week that years of work to rebuild public trust in the county’s government
may have been undone in a series of Facebook posts. The comments Brooks referred to were made by fellow Commissioner Tommy Hunter about U.S. Rep. John Lewis, whom he called a “racist pig,” and Democrats, whom he called “Demonrats” and “Libtards.” In the

Inauguration viewing up to each school
GCPS clarifies stance following online post BY KEITH FARNER keith.farner@gwinnettdailypost.com
Schools across Gwinnett are free to decide how much, if any, of the inauguration to show students on Friday, a school district official said. But at least one had Gwinnett County Republican Party leaders concerned that some students might miss it. A post on the party’s Facebook page on Thursday morning said it was “very disappointed” to hear that Dacula Elementary School is asking teachers there not to show the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. The post also said that Principal Holly Warren sent a text message to teachers about the event.

Lawrenceville residents believe talking it out can help ease tensions between officers and the community they police. At least, that was the point hit on most often during the Bridge the Gap Forum at Lawrenceville City Hall on Thursday night. “I believe the gap is communication,” Gwinnett NAACP First Vice President Renita Hamilton Edmondson said. “I find that in our communities, we tend to be a bit divided because we don’t talk to each other about some of the issues that are in our communities.”
