LAWRENCEVILLE — A Gwinnett County grand jury has handed down an indictment against a city of Hapeville politician, the same week she won the election. Ruth Barr, who pulled 47 percent of the vote Tuesday in a four-candidate race for alderman, is accused of stealing $109,409.49. The Wednesday indictment, released to the Daily Post on Thursday, lists Lilburn residents David and Helen Bass, who is Barr’s sister, as the lawful owners of a check in that amount, which was allegedly taken by the Fulton County elected official. Barr didn’t return a call seeking comment. According to a Gwinnett County police report, Barr, an accountant, was supposed to set up an IRA through her B & B Accounting and Tax Service in December McClain Hermes, a blind swimmer from Gwinnett, receives her Triumph of the Human Spirit award from Cynthia Frisina, executive director at BlazeSports America, during the BlazeSports awards banquet at the Art and Angela Williams Theater on the campus of the Primerica Global Headquarters in Duluth on Thursday.
