Peachtree Ridge uses complete effort to grind down No. 7 Norcross for 31-0 shutout victory By David Friedlander david.friedlander@ gwinnettdailypost.com
NORCROSS — As impressive as Peachtree Ridge has looked in recent weeks, it’s probably safe to say that its important Region 7-AAAAAA game at Norcross was its most complete game of the season so far. The Lions’ defense swarmed under the host Blue Devils in the first half, while Malik Staples, Marquez Jackson and the offensive line steamrolled Norcross in the second half in a 31-0 Peachtree Ridge win Friday night at Norcross Community Stadium. Staples ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, while Jackson added
147 yards and a score on 23 totes, while the defense stifled Norcross for just 77 total yards, including minus-21 on the ground, as the Lions (6-2, 5-0) handed the seventhranked Blue Devils (7-1, 4-1)
their first loss of the season. “It probably was (the most complete effort of the season),” Peachtree Ridge coach Mark Fleetwood said of his team’s sixth consecutive win after an 0-2 start. “To come
out against a team that’s 7-0 and do what we did. I mean, Norcross is good. They’re a good football team, and so for us to put it together and to do it for the Norcross game, it probably is.” The Peachtree Ridge defense set the tone from the opening possession of the game. After Norcross was penalized 5 yards for a false start on the opening play, the Lions proceeded to knock the Blue Devils back 12 more yards on the next three plays, including a Breon Dixon sack of Baron Radcliff, and force them to punt from their own 3-yard line. “We just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” See LIONS, Page 7A
