STONE MOUNTAIN — Scotland native Rosina Grey moved to the Atlanta area 50 years ago to try it for two years. “A long two years,” she said with a laugh in an unmistakable thick accent as she still claimed Scotland as her home. In those days, there wasn’t an event like the one that is now a regular on the third full week in October. “I got a phone call one day 44 years ago, ‘Rosina, we’re going to try to have a Scottish Highland Games and we need some people to help,” she

The 18-month-old sexual assault case was outlined last month in a Slate magazine article, and in the days following that publication, Porter said he told investigators in his Special Victims Unit to finish the case sooner rather than later, likely within 30 days.

The time for election year rhetoric is coming to a close as voters find themselves having to make a choice about who they will support in this year’s general election. Monday will mark the the beginning of advanced in-person voting, also known as early voting, in Gwinnett County as well as the rest of Georgia. This year’s ballot is headlined by the race to decide the next president of the United States, but there are also several down ticket races and issues affecting local residents on the ballot. Voting will take place Oct. 17 to Nov. 4, including two Saturday voting opportunities on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, at the Board of Voter Registrations and Elections Office, 455 Grayson Highway, in Lawrenceville. Voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Oct. 17 to Oct. 28 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 and from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. There will be no voting on Sundays. Several satellite locations will also be open on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31 to Nov. 4. Those locations include the Bogan Park Community Recreation Center, Dacula Park Activity Building, George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center, Lenora Park Activity Room, Lucky shoals Park Community Recreation Center, Mountain Park Activity Building and Shorty Howell Park Activity Building. Voters can find sample ballots that are specific to the congressional, legislative and county commission districts in which they live by visiting www.mvp. sos.ga.gov.

Supported by more than 500 volunteers, the event drew thousands of people to Stone Mountain Park.
