DAIRY GOATS Chairman: Mr Ben Young Exhibitors may enter the Showground after 12.00pm Friday 2nd September, goats must be on the Showground by 5.30pm on the Friday evening. Goatlings and kids must be on the Showground by 8.30am on the Saturday morning. The goat classes and milking competition are held under the Rules, Regulations and Recognition of the British Goat Society. All exhibits must be registered with the BGS as in the ownership and in the name of the exhibitor, the registered name and number and identification mark being quoted on the entry form (also the kidding date for goats in milk). All goats in milk must be kidded or aborted a minimum of 30 days previous to the date of the Show. The Showground holding number is 11/126/8000. 2022 PRIZE MONEY (Except where stated) Dorset Shows Champion £75, Reserve Champion £50, Runner Up £25 Breed Classes: First Prize £12, Second Prize £10, Third Prize £8 Sunday Classes: Rosettes 1st - 3rd ENTRY FEE: Members £8.00 inc VAT/entry Non Members £10.00 inc VAT/entry Except where stated SPECIAL NOTES: 1. No pregnant goats may be admitted to the Showground 2. In the event of unforeseen kidding or abortion, the goat must be immediately isolated from other goats. Full details of goat, exhibitor and action must be reported in writing to the Chairman (Mrs Anne Barnes) and the BGS Secretary, immediately after the Show 3. No goats/goatlings shall be fed with milk, milk product, or milk substitute whilst at the Show 4. A C.A.E. negative certificate, current for the days of the Show, issued during the previous twelve months must accompany your entry form or if entering online must be sent to the Show Office at least 1 week before the Show. 5. All judging will take place on Saturday 3rd September, exhibitors are asked to stay and display their goats on Sunday for the public to see. There will be some fun classes that exhibitors may wish to compete in. 6. Stripping out will take place at 6.30pm Friday 2nd September and the milk for the next 24 hours will be taken for the milking trials. All milk must be weighed. Judging of milkers is on Saturday 3rd September at 10.00am. Full udders at 6.30am or at the discretion of the judge. 7. The Committee reserve the right to amalgamate any classes. 8. Milk Buckets - in readiness for morning milking empty buckets may be brought to the table provided before retiring for the night or should be in place at least 15 minutes before first morning inspection. Likewise, buckets for evening milking should be on the table provided at least 15 minutes before milking commences. YOUNG PIG OF THE YEAR Judge: No Entry Fee These classes are open to pigs selected by the Judges of each of the Saturday breed classes. For full details see the BPA website. This show is a qualifier for the BPA YOUNG PIG OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2022. The YPOY final of will be held at Royal Three Counties Showground as part of the Malvern Autumn Show 24 & 25 September 2022. A condition of entering the competition is that prize winners at preliminary rounds must intend to exhibit at the Final. To be eligible a pig must be born on or after 1st January of the year of the Show. A pig judged Best Young Male or Best Young Female in a qualifying round cannot compete in any subsequent round. If a pig having qualified at an earlier show again qualifies at a later show the judge for that breed shall select an alternative pig of the same breed and sex from any class covering the required age group. REGULATIONS AND CONDITIONS This Society is a member of the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations and endeavours to run its competitions in line with similar shows. Competitors are asked to remember that although great care and attention are taken in site planning, it is possible that changes may become necessary, even on the day - should the need arise. In particular, adequate time should be allowed to enter and leave the Showground as traffic delays are a possibility GENERAL COMPETITION RULES 1. Entries - All entries must be on an official entry form or via the online entry system and signed by exhibitor, owner, agent or if under 16 years of age, the exhibitor & parent/guardian. All exhibits must be owned by the exhibitor at the time of making entries. This rule obviously is superseded where exhibits are required to be bred, made or produced by the exhibitor 2. Closing Dates - No entries will be accepted after the relevant closing date. 3. Membership - Fully paid up Members of the Dorchester Agricultural Society are entitled to reduced entry fees in most classes. Subscriptions must be paid before or at the time entries are submitted. 4. Refunds - No refunds can be made for any entry after the relevant closing date. 5. Safety - Exhibitors are reminded to comply with all safety regulations relating to themselves, their exhibits and the public. 6. Accidents - The Society will not be responsible for any loss, illness, damage or accident that may occur to any animal or article exhibited at the Show. It is a condition of entry that the exhibitor shall hold the Society blameless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from any such accident, loss or illness. All accidents must be reported to the Secretary’s Office. 7. Prizes - As printed in the schedule except where the Judge or Section Chairman reserves the right to change for whatever reason. The Judge need not award a first prize. 8. Prize Money - To be collected on the day of the Show. No prize money is given unless the relevant prize card is handed in. No prize money is sent out, unless requested in writing with the relevant prize card attached. 9. Judging - No public will be allowed in the tents or judging rings while judging is in progress. The Judges decision is final. 10. Entry Tickets - Each person must give up an admission ticket when entering the Showground on Show days or be wearing a valid wristband. Should exhibitors be entitled to exhibitor or vehicle passes these will be dispatched, before Friday 30th August. The Society asks all exhibitors to only give free passes to ‘bona fida’ assistants or livestock handlers. 11. Objections - An exhibitor making an objection shall do so in writing to the Secretary before 4.00pm (or at close of judging) on the relevant day of the Show, and shall deposit the sum of £30. The objector must be an exhibitor in the same class. The Appeals Committee will decide the outcome by 5.00pm that day and in the event of an objection being held invalid the said sum of £30 shall be forfeited to the Society. 12. Security - 24-hour security is on site from 12 noon Wednesday 4th September until 12 noon Tuesday 10th September. The Society cannot accept responsibility for any loss, theft or damage. 13. Showground Facilities - Refreshments, toilets and showers are available on the Showground. Exhibitors are allowed to use the Members’ facilities after 5.30pm each show day where the catering and bars operate until 11.00pm on Friday and midnight on Saturday. 14. Access to the Showground - Exhibitors are asked to follow the directional signs to the Showground and to allow adequate time for entry to the Show site, parking and unloading of their entries. 15. Opening Hours - Public opening hours are from 8.30am to 6.00pm. A security and noise curfew is in place after 11.00pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Show weekend. 16. Car & Lorry Parks - Spaces will be allocated by the car parking steward and should any vehicle be discovered parked in any other area it will be towed away to the car parking area. 17. Stockmen and Shepherds - All stockmen, grooms and shepherds must follow the appropriate dress code when parading their animals for judging i.e. white coats, etc. 18. Smoking - The Society operates a no smoking rule in all tents, judging rings and in the Main Ring. 19. Veterinary & Medical Cover - These are available on site via the Secretary’s Tent between 8.00am and 6.00pm on Show days, after which a call out service is available. Exhibitors are responsible for any treatment costs incurred.

20. Grand Parade - Champion, Reserve Champion, 1st and 2nd prizewinners must parade in the Grand Parade on the relevant day to receive their prize money. 21. Timing of Classes - Competitors must present themselves to the judging rings in adequate time for the relevant competition. 22. Display Boards - The Society welcomes display boards and requests that competitors ensure that they are secured in a safe manner. 23. APHA and Veterinary Inspections - An APHA Inspector will be in attendance at the Show. 24. Public Liability Insurance - all exhibitors must have a minimum of £2 million Public Liability Insurance cover. 25. Information from entry forms will be stored on computer. Information about results may also be published and/or provided to the Press and Breed Societies for publicatio0n. Information about exhibitors may also be passed to any regulatory authority, such as Trading Standards or APHA, as well as the Society’s Veterinary Advisors. The making of an entry is irrevocable consent for the storage and disclosure of information in this way. CATTLE RULES 1. Washing - The Society provides a washing area for cattle behind the cattle lines. 2. Milking - The Society provides milking facilities for cattle 3. Halters - Proper halters must be used at all times. 4. Passports - Passports must travel with the animals and be shown to the steward. The Society will issue a BCMS label with the Society’s holding number for your passport. 5. Cattle Numbers - One number will be issued per animal which must be used for all classes. 6. Undercover Accommodation - This will be provided free of charge under canvas with straw bedding for all cattle. SHEEP RULES 1. Health Status - The MV and Scrapie status of all sheep must be recorded on the entry forms. Separate penning is provided for MV, Non MV and Scrapie monitored sheep. Please ensure that MV certificates (if required) have been handed in at the Sheep Secretary’s Office. 2. Sheep Numbers - One number will be issued for each animal and must be used for all classes. 3. Halters - Proper halters must be used at all times. 4. Penning - Sheep will be penned under canvas on straw bedding. PIG RULES 1. Movement Certificates - Competitors must hold a Show and Exhibitors Movement License. 2. Suitability to Travel, (piglets and pregnant sows) - Current guidelines for the movement of sows and litters should be complied with. Please consult your veterinary surgeon if in doubt. 3. Penning - Pigs will be penned undercover on straw. 4. Dogs will not be permitted within the Pig Marquee. GOAT RULES 1. C.A.E. Negative Certificates - A valid CAE negative certificate MUST accompany your entry form. 2. Milk Recording - This is carried out by NMR (on behalf of the Society) with results issued to the Society. All prize money for the milking section is sent out in cheque form after results of the milking competition are received approximately 8 weeks after the Show. CAMPING RULES 1. Livestock Attendants - The Society permits livestock attendants to “camp/sleep” in their vehicles in the livestock parking area. 2. Camping Field - A separate camping field is provided adjoining the main showground where a charge of £30 is made per vehicle or tent. 3. Gas & Cooking Arrangements - For fire safety reasons, gas cylinders should not be stored within your sleeping accommodation For clarification of the rules to the various competitions, prior to the Show, please contact the Show Office
