The Tenth Grade represented an experimental exposition, based on the educational model of the Parallel Class and the experience of organizing space through creative approaches in collaboration with students. For one month, the exhibition functioned as a school/class. From October 18th to November 16th, in the Center of Contemporary Art – Tbilisi an educational and creative process was held, in which up to forty students of IX, X, XI classes from several schools in Tbilisi took part. At the opening, ten lessons divided into five main sections (Archive / Dramaturgy / Communication / Production / Exposition) and textbook developed for The Tenth Grade“The Organization of Space” were presented. The material form and content of the space / exhibition responded to these issues and made it possible its’ practical functioning. For one month the exhibition space was transformed into a teens’ hub for generating ideas, where the content of the 10 lessons acquired practical, functional forms. Within a month, the exhibition area / classroom was transformed, developed, and with the participation of students, adopted new forms and functions. The closure of the project on November 16th included two points: Presentation of the results of monthly interdisciplinary seminars / lessons with students; Presentation of the tenth grade textbook “The Organization of Space.”

Informal Monument by a-m-a
Informal Monument by a-m-a was a celebration of the informal construction that characterizes the built landscape of Tbilisi. Informal Monument by a-m-a was materialized through the combination of unused, demolish, structural elements found in a Warehouse in the suburbs of Tbilisi. Combined together, these forgotten objects formed a continuous 150m long and 10m height portico crossing the Omar Khizanishvili Avenue and Courtyard Building in Gldani, Tbilisi. Informal Monument by a-m-a had no concerns with visual aspects, the materials were randomly combined. The connection details were solved on site using welding-joints and steel wires – techniques mastered by the local construction team.

International Design School (IDS)
“Today we are back at the track where environment is among top priorities”. Kakha Kuchava Chairman of the Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources -
Students of International Design School (IDS) of Georgian Technical University visited Parliament of Georgia and had a meeting with the Chairman of the Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources - Kakha Kuchava. Students discussed with him topics related to green parliament and air pollution. Mr. Kuchava spoke about activities of the Committee, shared its future plans with students and his experience of using “Design Thinking” concept – the basis of IDS philosophy - in practice of the Committee. Mr. Kuchava said: “About 10-15 years ago, environmental requirements and standards were abandoned. Today we are back at the track where environment is among top priorities. As the students of a design school, you might not have a lot of information about environment, but this is acceptable, no one is born environmentalist, you can only become one, especially when realizing how all these challenges affect our future. To that end, you can use design thinking concept to address environmental challenges. Our committee was the pioneer in championing parliamentary oversight, namely, thematic inquiry and post-legislative scrutiny. We find that these creative tools can be used to actively engage civil society, all relevant stakeholders, and state actors to join the forces to tackle the challenges caused by various environmental issues. Design thinking does not mean you have to design some product or create some beautiful shape, etc., design thinking is a way of approaching a problem; designers are free in their mind, they think outside of a box, which is why design thinking has always been used as a method to solve any problem in the most creative way. We are trying to use as much elements of design thinking in our work in Parliament as possible and that is how we have reached the idea to implement thematic inquiry and post-legislative scrutiny. Students demonstrated their interested in the work of the committee and expressed their willingness to cooperate in the future.

CENN
CENN has launched a student initiative “Green Economy School”
CENN, a non-governmental organization working to protect the environment by fostering sustainable development throughout the South Caucasus, has launched a student initiative “Green Economy School”. The program is initiated within the frames of the project “Promoting Sustainable Forest Management for Climate Resilient Rural Development in Georgia,” which is implemented with the financial support of Austrian Development Agency, with funds of Austrian Development Cooperation. The initiative is aimed at linking university resources with current state and international economic programs. 14 students from 5 universities of Georgia, selected through a competition, were taking part in the mentioned program. They were trained and were sent to the regions of Georgia to prepare family, private, municipal, or national models of use of forest resources. They held multiple meetings with local stakeholders and were able to identify potential beneficiaries for future cooperation. Within the framework of the Green Economy School, a memorandum of collaboration was signed between CENN, its partner universities and supporter agencies of the Green Economy School, who unite to achieve sustainable development and strategic rural development goals. The signatories of the memorandum include: Environmental Information and Education Center, National Forestry Agency, Enterprise Georgia, Agricultural and Rural Development Agency of Georgia, Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia, as well as partner universities: Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, State Teaching University of Zugdidi, Caucasus University, Black Sea University and Ilia State University. The authors of the best four business plans, which will be selected through a competition, will be offered a new and longer phase of cooperation with CENN. Initially, CENN cooperated with all students for approximately two months. On October 26-27, students were trained in business plan presentations and in collaboration with designtbilisi editorial, the students were able to draft poster ideas. Eventually, 8 business plan posters were developed which will be presented at fair planned on November 14th at Green Economy Innovations Forum held by CENN.

Hiding Pirosmani Exhibition period: October 19 – November 25 Kutaisi, 8 Sh. Rustaveli str; D. Kakabadze Kutaisi Fine Art Gallery Project is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia within the competition “Promoting Experimental Innovative Projects in the Arts”.
Hiding Pirosmani / An innovative reading of David Kakabadze Kutaisi Fine Art Gallery’s collection/ – is a project encompassing an experimental, innovative approach in contrast to traditional exhibition practices in regards to protected artworks and collections in general. The name, indication of the innovative approach by itself, refers to the „hiding“ of the main protected exhibit of the gallery, a painting by Pirosmani. This manifests itself in the painter‘s „visit“ to Arles, France – as is known, Pirosmani‘s paintings are shown in the Vincent Van Gogh Foundation. Factual inventory of the exhibition is not only the storage-protected collections, but also the storage itself, with all its accessoires, documentation and technics. During the exhibiton installment period, gallery and storage room will turn into a creative laboratory, where novel, unexpected interdependencies and different classifications of content will revitalize the gallery as well as its collections. Goal of the project is to recontextualize and reevaluate the David Kakabadze Kutaisi Fine Art Gallery‘s protected collections from a contemporary perspective through experimental and innovative approaches, and in this regard, to promote the interactive element within art spaces.
