he Sarca River which flows majestically along the wonderful green valleys is a true paradise for anglers but it is also a fearsome rival that bestows emotions in an enviable naturalistic context. The Sarca River rises from three branches: Val Genova, Nambrone and Campiglio, which flow into an only course, upstream the village of Pinzolo. It flows on through the whole Val Rendena and Giudicarie and ends in "Bocche del Limarò," a little downstream of Comano Terme. Fish population includes marble troutsome of them large- brown trout, hybrids and grayling. The Alto Sarca area in western Trentino is a leading fishing destination in Italy, especially for no kill fly fishing and it is one of the most popular in Europe for the lovers of this sport. Proof of this is the fact that this territory has hosted prestigious competitions such as the European Fly Fishing Championship (2015), World Fly Fishing Championship (2018) and Italian Fly Fishing Championship in pairs and in teams (2019).

sized catches. A day’s fishing surrounded by the Adamello Brenta Natural Park offers anglers peace and silence with no interruption but the pounding of rivers and streams. Another very peculiar reserve is the Nambino Lake with waters that offer the chance to hook wonderful trout, a challenge that a real enthusiast can hardly resist.
10
In the Nambino Lake and Nembia Lake spin fishing is also permitted with single hook. The small Nembia pond is one kilometer south of the Molveno Lake, at the foot of the Dolomiti di Brenta in western Trentino. It is an alpine lake that rose hundreds of years ago, where the cool water has a constant temperature (in winter you can fish without any problems because the lake does not freeze) which guarantees the presence of very good-sized salmonid fish, and where the fishing season is open all year round.
STRENGTHS OF ALTO SARCA: Alto Sarca is well-known all over the world for its exclusive services: > Hundreds of kilometers of water > Rivers, streams and alpine lakes at the foot of the Dolomites in Brenta - Adamello > Fishing guides > Fishing equipment to rent > Places for disabled anglers
> Webcams on the Sarca River which can be viewed online > Selected and tested fishing packages > The best fishing locations in Trentino > Office devoted to fishing > Little lodge houses for anglers > Limited-access fishing areas > Facilities managed by professionals who guarantee specific services for anglers

l Rincon Estancia on famous Rio Gallegos. Picture yourself in wild Patagonia‌ After a hearty and delicious breakfast, your only trouble is to decide where to go fishing that day! El Rincon has access to over 50km of private, double bank waters, shared in rotation with 8 rods. This stretch of Rio Gallegos is considered
14
as the most scenic and inviting part of the river — with a significant run of fully wild sea trout and a robust population of massive resident brown. Estancia El Rincon covers about 57,000 acres and includes a private 20km stretch of the world renown Rio Gallegos and a further 35kms of its major tributary, Rio Penitente, a spectacular river in its own
right where more than 50% of the total Rio Gallegos run are heading. Though this can be described as a true wilderness experience, the lodge is very comfortable andmaintains all its original features and historic charm, having been built in this remote part of Patagonia in 1902. The river is 150metres far from the house, and guests have spectacular views of the surrounding landscape together with the Andes as a panoramic backdrop. El Rincon fly fishing program is a true "El Campo" style operation run from Estancia Rincon De Los Morros, about 1 hour and 40 minutes drive from the town of Rio Gallegos. The guest accommodation is based on single occupancy unless couples wish to share. All meals and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, are included in the price. The fishing package at Rincon consists of 6 full days fishing / 7 nights. FISHING At El Rincon fishing is both for fresh run sea trout up to 20+lbs and for resident brown trout averaging 3 to 4 lbs but with many specimens up to double figures. The main run of sea trout make their way into the river system around the end of November, beginning from December until the end of April or later, with guests having total access on both Rio Gallegos and Rio Penitente during their stay.
15

Rio Penitente is just at a short distance from the lodge so guests have the opportunity to pick up a rod and walk few steps across the garden to try a few casts in any of the home pools of this stunning river. Rio Gallegos is a short drive from the lodge. Along these 20 kilometres we have a selection of pools with a good number of migrating sea trout. Brown trout are also available here but usually we concentrate our efforts on the sea trout migrating upstrem. These fish are big... and angry, being their journey interrupted, so be prepared for some rod bending action when encountering one of these hard fighting chromers! Our expert guides use 4x4 vehicles to drive guests to different sections of the river each day but, because of the meandering nature of the river and its myriad of glides, streams, pots and deep cut channels, time is never wasted driving long distances, as it is easy to walk from pool to pool in any chosen area. The management team at El Rincon includes Diego Peralta and Paul Becher. Both are passionate fly fishermen. Diego was born and raised in Rio Gallegos and has fished the local rivers all his life. He knows them intimately.

Upstairs, under a traditional Mayan Palapa (the biggest in the village) you'll find the restaurant, bar and the lounge with a flytying corner. This is the perfect place where to share the best fishing moments of the day and to enjoy cocktails and excellent home cooked appetizers whilst relaxing on our comfortable sofas and Mexican hammocks. Lodge Capacity: From November to March: 10 guests in 4 double rooms and 2 single room. From April to July: 12 guests in 4 double rooms and 2 single rooms and 1 self-contained facility which consists of 2 rooms,1 bathroom, an outside patio, kitchenette, perfect for a family with children. FINE DINING Our excellent cuisine is highly appreciated by our clients. At the end of your fishing day delicious appetizers will be ready on your return such as empanadas, guacamoles and quesadillas, all served with loco nachos and cold beer. The chef and her assistant will treat you to delightful local Caribbean and Mexican specialties with a French and Italian touch. YOUR GUIDE Our professional fly-fishing guides are local people from the village community, Juan BriceĂąo 'Juanito', the Head Guide, was born in Punta Allen and is a great asset for guests. Pascale and Tiziano were proud to welcome Juanito to the project about one year after the opening. He is one of the most respected guides in the village and his reputation and success with permit is well known by fisherman from all over the world. We understand that our guides arecrucial in making Punta Allen Fishing Club a success. Everybody in our team speaks English and is on the water over 300 days a year. THE FISHING The area is huge, very huge. There are more than 80 km of untouched reef where you can find snapper, grouper, barracuda, jack, trigger fish, permit, and tarpon in season. In addition to this, there is the lagoon that originates in Tulum and slides south to Punta Allen forming canals, flats, and interior lagoon where it is possible to fish for snook, baby tarpon, bonefish, permit, barracuda, snapper, jack and look-down. But the real jewel is the bay. The Ascension Bay is a unique area where all the fishing condition are present. You can find secluded flats and shallow lagoon where hundreds of bonefish are tailing, or deeper flats, the perfect habitat for the elusive permit.
20
SEASON The fishing season is long, more than in other areas of the Caribbean region. The bay and the lagoon are relatively protected and only in really strong windy condition (over 20 knots) parts of the area become unfishable. So, even in windy days your guide will find a protected place where to fish. Even in summer the fishing is excellent, and it is not so hot. Fishing can be difficult during rainy season (late August, September and October) when hurricanes and storms can occur in the area. Fishing is on catch and release rules for the slam fish: Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish and Permit must be carefully released after a little oxygenation.
FISHING CHART: Bonefish: all year Snook: all year but best in November, December and January Tarpon: babies (5 to 25lb) all year. Migratory fish over 70 lb. start to show up in late May until mid-August Permit: all year depending on the weather Best in November, December and April to mid-August Jack, barracuda, snapper, grouper, ladyfish, etc.: All year

• Location: Punta Allen is a little lobster’s fishermen village in the heart of Sian Ka’an biosphere faced to the mythical Ascension Bay, 50 km south to Tulum in the “Riviera Maya”. The area has been an UNESCO treasure since 1976 • Fish species: All the area of the bay and the lagoon is home to several species such us Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Snook, Barracuda, Jack, Ladyfish, Snapper, Triggerfish. All species can be caught on a fly. In addition to this there are more than 80 km of untouched reef and open sea where you can fish Grouper, Amberjack, Wahoo, Dolphin fish and Sailfish, Marlin and tuna • Seasonality: From November to end June. In July, August, September and October fishing is still good but hurricanes and storm may occur. November till May is good for all species. From end of May to end of July the area is also very good for migratory tarpon with fish that can be over 150 lb • Temperatures: Temperatures are about 20 to 30 Celsius until end of April. From 25 to 35 Celsius in the summer. Even in warm days a little breeze will let you feel comfortable • Number of guests per week: The lodge can host 10 guests from November to April in 4 double rooms and 2 single rooms. The rest of the year 12 guests in the lodge and 2 people in our annexed house with patio • Arrival airport: The closest airport is Cancun Int. Airport that is well served with connections from all over the country. Daily connections from European cities like Milan, Paris, London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, just to name some • Transfer: We will provide a personal private transfer from the airport or from the hotel. Land transfer from Cancun to the lodge takes approx. 3h30m. In case of very bad road condition we can split the transfer into 2 legs. The first leg will be by van from the airport to Boca Paila bridge (2 hrs), the second by boat from Boca Paila to the lodge (1 hr) • Distance between lodge and fishing areas: You can find good fishing just 300 meters from the lodge. The Ascension bay area is huge and it takes about 50 minutes of boat transfer to reach the most secluded spots in the southern part • Recommended equipment: Except for migratory fish, the area is a light tackle destination. 7,8,9 line rods in 9 foot class can cover all fishing situations. We do use 99% floating lines • Best flies: EP shrimp and crab from the Ascension Bay series are developed by Enrico Puglisi in the area and are on top of the list of the best flies here • Do not forget: Tips are not included, guides work hard to let you enjoy your fishing day, so be generous if you think you had a good day. Bring your own medicine and declare food allergies when booking • Other: We will do our best to let you enjoy your vacation. We are fishermen that serve fishermen
22
2018
TACKLE Ascension Bay is basically a light tackle destination. Most of the time you can run the fishing with 2 or 3 rods in 9 foot and class from 6 to 9. 6/7 line for bonefish, 8 for permit or bigger bonefish, 9 line for all the rest like baby tarpon, snook, barracuda, or when you need to cast a voluminous fly in windy condition, like crab or big shrimp patterns. The reel must be saltwater proof and must have a good drag. Line must be for tropical use (tropical water conditioning). Normal lines in warm
condition become too soft and will lose their original performance. The material scratches and ruins easily. FOR THE NON FISHING COMPANION We can organize ecotours to sightsee natural life. The area is rich in fauna like birds, manatees, turtles, crocodiles, mantas and stingray. In addition to this, it is possible to organize a daily trip to the Mayan ruins
in Tulum, Coba or Ek-Balam. The beaches around the village are not so nice like in Tulum area or in Playa del Carmen. The closest place to have a nice swim is 4 km far from the village. For beach lovers we can organize a daily transfer to “Blanquizal” with parasols and a cooler with beverages. Our motto is “there are no problems, just good solutions”, so let us know your wishes and we will try to do our best to let you enjoy your vacation.

ea trout fishing is the main reason why anglers from all across Europe return to Fyn every year. We have thousands of anglers coming back to enjoy our coastal fishing. The island is a unique and fantastic place. You will fish in a variety of natural locations along the coast, over reefs and from sandy beaches. This is not a “20-fish-a-day” destination, therefore if you are looking for that, this destination is not for you. But, if you are looking for a fantastic fishing trip and the satisfaction of catching fish with “value added”, then you must try this experience. Sea trout are very strong and are known for jumping spectacularly once hooked. They vary in size, with many fish averaging 35-55 cm, but it’s possible to catch 60-80cm fish which would be the trout of a lifetime, especially if you consider having caught it directly in the sea.
32
In the region of Fyn, you can find the oldest fishing lodge in Denmark. Since 2013, this a unique place, has offered holidays totally dedicated to the sea trout angler. Denmark Fishing & Outdoor Lodge is located in the south-western part of the island, one of the most beautiful parts of the region with some of the best sea trout spots in Denmark.
You have plenty of fishing spots not more than 20 minutes away by car. Fyn is a magical place for sea trout fishing and you can easily travel to the opposite side of the region in less than one hour and get back in the evening in time for a delicious dinner and some fish talk with other anglers.

est Rangá is one of the best known salmon river in Iceland, not only for its beauty and great variety of fishing pools, but also for the high volume of salmon caught every year. West Rangá usually is the most productive salmon river in Iceland. Stability is its secret, the reason why it supplies such high numbers of salmon per

rod/day. It is never low in water. Average catch in West Rangà is 6,600 salmon pr/season. Our policy implies that salmon over 80 cm in length have to be released as a part of our plan for the West Ranga river. We know this can be an issue, but we strongly believe that the protection of the valuable 2SW fish will be to the benefit of the river and of all anglers
in the future. All seatrout and brown trout must also be released, with no exception. The headwaters of West Rangå are near the foot of the spectacular Mt. Hekla, one of the country’s active volcanoes. This entirely spring-fed source is responsible for both the consistent water temperature and flow. The lodge is located right on the bank of the river facing one of the best pools and also the famous and active volcano, Hekla. It offers modern comfort in stylish newly built facilities. ritish Columbia in Canada, especially the Skeena River basin with its tributaries, has always been an ideal destination for anglers looking for big steelhead that populate the area. The number of lodges, guides, and accommodation to host anglers from all around the world is constantly increasing. Considering the vastness of the
50
territory and the many streams, lakes and rivers, whenever I go there, it is like visiting a new place, even though I have often visited and fished the area many times. I am always enthusiastic about discovering new pools and at the same time I want to know more about this place and the first angler-explorers who ventured north in search of fascinating fishing.
One of these was certainly Reverend Daniel M. Gordon, who conducted an expedition on behalf of CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) to the area north of Vancouver and was among the first to mention fly-fishing on the tributaries of Skeena. His book "Mountain and Prairie: A Journey from Victoria to Winnipeg Via the Peace River Pass", written in 1880, is a description of his travels. At the end of the 19th century, J. Turner also went up the Skeena River through the Babine Lake, explored the Fraser water basin and narrated his adventures in the book "Three Years Hunting and Trapping in America and the Great North-West". It took Turner’s group of fishermen a good part of September to make their way from the Metlakatla settlement on the ocean to the Forks of Old Hazelton up the Skeena River. Turner wanted to winter at Kispiox, but the natives didn’t allow him as they feared that he was a land surveyor aiming to take possession of their land. He went back to the Forks and built a hut on the promontory delimited by the Skeena and Bulkley Rivers, which became his home until he took up his travel again the following June. In September, while he was going up the Skeena, he noticed the abundance of salmon and tried fishing them with a spoon and with a fly, but he did not catch any. Even if he did not catch any salmon, he still described them as big trout; he was among the first to talk about steelheads. Record catches of steelhead on the Kispiox in the early 1950s, drew attention to this area, and fly anglers who lived under the 49th parallel flocked in masses to the Kispiox, Morice

and Bulkley Rivers. The first steelhead fishing techniques were mostly based on British Atlantic salmon fishing techniques brought to British Columbia by men such as General Noel Money, Roderick HaigBrown and Tommy Brayshaw. The flow of Americans to the Skeena area in the 1950s and 1960s deeply influenced flyfishing techniques. Fishing was dominated by short rods and flies of American origin. Members of Vancouver’s Totem Flyfishers and Victoria’s Haig-Brown Flyfishers reintroduced double-handed rods and spey casting. Today it is the easier Skagit rods and lines as well as intruder and lech flies that bring in the big steelhead. Catches have increased greatly compared to 15 years ago, thanks to no-kill policies and new fishing techniques. However, it’s easy to think back to a time when you went into the water with a greenheart 18-ft rod and a silk line, when boots were made of oilcloth and flies had gut eyes and expert fishing guides did not exist. Deep Creek Lodge is located in Terrace (BC) in an extremely convenient area for fishing the surrounding rivers, from the river Kalum, which runs about fifty meters from the lodge to the Skeena and other tributaries. The guides, who use fast boats or rafts to go down the nearby Kitimat River, are the best that the area can offer, both for large Steelhead in spring and autumn and for salmon of all species in the summer months. The lodge can host up to a dozen guests and is also the ideal place for a family vacation. The hospitality of the Guerriero family and, in particular, its cuisine makes Deep Creek Lodge a point of reference in the Terrace area.

hen you arrive to Chavanga, you really get that impression of being at the end of the world. Indeed, we probably already got that feeling 3-4 hours before reaching this desolate Russian territory. THE JOURNEY As we arrived to the airport of Murmansk, Vasil and his sons were waiting for us. Immediately after we had introduced ourselves, the hardest part of the journey began, as we had to reach the village of Umba and then continue in a four-wheel vehicle through sandy terrain as far as the estuary of the Varzuga River. Usually guest fly helicopter to Chavang and back but we had to experience this legendary road by the coast of White Sea. After we unloaded our luggage, we crossed the river Varzuga by boat and on the other side, a 6-wheeldrive military truck with an iron cargo cabin and a few chairs welded to the bottom awaited us. On the whole, it was pretty comfortable, as the scent of adventure lessened the threshold of pain. There is no road: you drive on the shoreline of the sea where possible, on lichen and moss carpets of the tundra, which is a rather slippery and giant rocks where the vehicle limps along in first gear. After a few hours of this you reach the banks of the Chavanga river.
56
THE FISHING The rivers of White sea in Kola peninsula usually have a June-July spring run and then another one in the Autumn. The Osenka (Autumn fish) is the biggest run here. The shape of this river is perfect for fly-fishing, with very small falls and remarkable flats; there are about 18 kilometres of Cavanga river available for 6-7 anglers wishing to explore it with the help of the catterpillar. The autumn colours of birch trees and the flora on the banks make you feel like you’re inside a painting. You can split Chavanga in three parts (lower, middle and upper) where each part really stands for its unique characteristics. For one week, I almost always fished with a onehanded dry fly rod, using big deer bombers or sunrise shadow flies with
riffle hitch on the surface. Seeing a 90 cm salmon break the surface to take your floating fly would be well worth even a longer journey. What struck me most were the so-called “resident” fish, that is salmon which had been in the river for a couple of months and had taken on a brown and reddish colour making them look like big trout. These fish, which hardly bite a fly in other countries like Scotland, are very aggressive here and are among the first ones to come to the surface to feed, which is really incredible. Big numbers of fresh fish enter the river from mid September to end of October.

THE LODGE The lodge we stayed in is comfortable for 6 or 7 people with a wellequipped kitchen and a place where you can put your mounted rods and waders to dry out. Vasil and his sons are excellent guides and good cooks, from breakfast to lunch on the river as well as dinner. They have a great organisation of fishing process too. In front of the lodge is a spacious sauna which supplies hot water at any time and is a panacea on rainy days. The territory is very isolated from roads and it makes this
place free of fishing pressure as in other areas in Kola Peninsula. Fishing Chavanga makes you feeling as you fish all alone in the wilderness. Moreover, the lack of regular transport lines means that Vasil practically has the exclusivity on this river and very competitive prices. In other more famous locations we would have surely spent more than twice as much and considering the 95 salmon the five of us caught in one week’s fishing, it was really worth it.

Fully kitted out Bahamian fishing lodges in stunning surroundings are dotted throughout the islands. On charterboats at sea, in skiffs on inland waterways and the shallow 'flats' along the coast, you’ll find fishermen and guides with a wealth of experience and gobsmacking ‘fishy tales’ eager to give you adventure. Find stories in The Bahamas that you will be retelling at dinner parties for evermore. With over 50 fishing records to their credit, The Islands Of The Bahamas are considered one of the premier destinations in the world for sport fishing. Deep-sea fishing and bonefishing are the two standouts, with events and tournaments held throughout the islands year-round. Experienced guides and fishing lodges are plentiful in the islands and have reef facility to ensure you have the very best fishing experience possible. The Bahamas has every type of salt water fishing for first-timers and fanatics.
The ocean is home to some big predators, including Marlin, Wahoo and Mahi Mahi. For anglers, there’s no greater challenge than putting yourself against one of these fish that can outweigh you by five times or more. Record catches are set each year as fishermen from around the world cast their reels for the ultimate prize. REEF FISHING For those looking for an easy break from the demands of bonefishing or the expense of big-game fishing, reef fishing is for you. Just cast a line off a pier, dock or in the mangroves of any Bahamian island for your chance to snag snapper, grouper, mutton and more.
ANDROS For the best bonefishing, head for Andros, “the bonefishing capital of the world”. Huge Andros, split and splintered by watery bights and cuts, has incredibly varied bonefishing. The best spots around North Andros include the Joulter Cays, while in South Andros guides head to Deep Creek and Little Creek as well as the legendary west side and southern tip of the island where many of the prime fishing grounds have barely been explored. BIMINI With its prime location, slap-bang in the middle of the Gulf Stream, Bimini is regarded as the “big game fishing capital of the world”, where you can “go for the big one” and set new records in deep waters teeming with swordfish, marlin, tarpon, mahi mahi and tuna. SOUTHERN BAHAMAS: ACKLINS AND CROOKED ISLAND, MAYAGUANA AND INAGUA No matter if you are an avid or novice angler, these undisturbed inland creeks and vast tidal flats are a fisherman’s dream. The western and northern sides of these islands provide the deep-sea experience of a lifetime. Mayaguana, Acklins & Crooked Island, Inagua embrace enormous areas of virgin flats. Locals describe the bonefish as “lazing around and dying of old age”! Far away from Nassau’s buzzling city and tourist attractions, the tranquil Southern Bahamas have the best fishing of the islands.

BONEFISHING If you’d like a rewardingly technical angling challenge in The Bahamas, bonefishing is for you. For that reason it’s becoming increasingly popular, so opportunities and facilities abound. For the most consistently fine bonefishing, head for Andros, dubbed ‘the bonefish capital of the world’. The Exumas and Acklins & Crooked Island are top spots for fishing wily creatures which inhabit the shallow waters of the mud flats around many of the islands. Hooking and landing the ‘grey ghost’ of the flats can be a knifeedge adventure. Once hooked, bonefish can reach a speed of 30mph, forcing you to call on every one of your angling skills to bring it in. That’s why bonefishing has become one of the most popular types of fishing in these waters, with anglers finding it particularly rewarding. They say “once you’ve hooked a bone, there ain’t no looking back!” ISLAND ACTIVITIES All the resorts and boutique hotels, and most fishing lodges, will cater to nonfishing partners and families. The oceans around The Islands Of The Bahamas are crystal clear and perfect for diving, sailing, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins or kayaking. On land, relax on the beach, play a round of golf, shop or explore the local culture through one of the many tours. TOURNAMENTS The Bahamas attracts fishermen from all over the world all throughout the year. And with the wide variety of fish in the waters off the islands, there's a packed calendar of fishing tournaments and events in which everyone can participate.

Big Tarpon fishing is obviously king; in about twenty minutes navigation you can explore several perfect spots to catch these wonderful fighters. Tarpon of all sizes are caught daily and, given the very low fishing pressure, these react very well to any kind of bait, whether it is launched with a fly, spin or conventional rod. The average size is around 40/60 pounds but specimens of much greater weight are caught with surprising regularity. Together with the Tarpon you can also fish Yellow Tail Jack that share the habitat with silver arrows. Until recently fishing has been more or less limited to these two species but now,

Another species you can chase right in front of the Lodge is the Trigger Fish, which can also be caught in a small flat along the spots where the Tarpon are located, so it’s better to have an 8 line on the boat... you never know !!! They speak English and are experts on single- and two-handed casting, fishing techniques and of course the fly choice of the day. They will be at your service with the mission of making your fishing more productive and enjoyable. Having a full-time dedicated guide will drastically improve your chances of success. Our guides are constantly on the river and know where and how to find the fish. Furthermore they are a confident and experienced help when fighting and landing fish. There is probably nothing worse than missing a big fish because of problems in landing it on your own. When it comes to wading, we always put safety first. Our guides know the river and will show you where to wade and where to watch out. In addition to that, we strongly believe that good company makes your trip better. The Olderø Fly Fishing Lodge is located on Olderøen Island on the bank of Lakselv river. It is only 100 meters from Home Pool, which is one of the best pools in Lakselv because it is the first holding pool of the river.

think that all fly-anglers dream of fishing in rivers where nobody has ever cast a fly before. Most of the Icha River in Kamchatka perfectly suit that dream. The journey from Europe is not short, a bit tiring and lasts just short of 2 days, with many hours flying, chaning airports and transfers by mini vans and off-road vehicles, before you can see this wonderful river. Then you are told that the lodge is about 20 km downstream by rubber jet boat. In the end you have reached the Icha River Lodge in the north-western part of the Kamchatka peninsula. The miracle is when you put on your waders and make the first cast, you immediately forget all efforts it took to enter another world. For a week you live in a wonderful forest, live unrepeatable experiences, strengthen friendships, get to know characters with incredible stories
98
and every time you cast a fly onto the water, you never know what will rise up and take it. This is Kamchatka’s true beauty. These are the things that make you selective in the choice of trips, that push you to undertake incredible transfers from one river to the other, just because you heard that some hours away another angler caught a different type of fish, a
bit bigger or a bit more suspicious. I think it is this “wishing for something new” that repeatably pushes us to look for places that are less known and less easy to reach. Icha river lodge featuring modern wooden cabins for 2 rods per cabin.

100
fish different parts of the 50 km stretch and experience different fishing tactics and methods. You must bring a 11-13-foot switch rod, because there are a lot of salmon of different species from the Pacific Ocean, as well as a 9-10 foot #7 single hand rod for big and crazy rainbow trout and to fish the surface with gurglers for the big white-spotted char (kundja), that not only have a strange behaviour, but feed on the surface.
Most of their guides have a good level of English and knowledge of the river, they do their job with great professionalism and try to establish a good relationship with you from the beginning. I think some areas in Russia are the last frontiers for fly-fishing and, in this regard, Kamchatka with its still-to-be-discovered rivers certainly represents this last unspoiled paradise.

COME WITH US TO HELP CIENAGA DE ZAPATA COMMUNITY AND MANGROVE FLY FISHING SCHOOL Join us in a unique environmental project to assist Cuban local fishermen and the first fly fishing school LOS MANGLARES in Cienaga de Zapata, Cuba, just over two hours away from Havana, Cuba’s historic capital. You will be welcome to participate and contribute to this amazing project where fishing takes place within Cienaga de Zapata National Park, Cuba’s version of the Everglades, a vast protected coastal area boasting the richest and most varied fauna and flora in the Caribbean, as well as pristine waters teeming with highly sought after game fish, like bonefish, tarpon, snook, permit, and more. We support local fishermen and guides who have been fishing the region for over 10 years, some more than 20. They know every flat, boca and creek intimately, and are eager to take you to their favorite hot spots to help you sample the area’s world-class fishing. With our support, we try to spread fly fishing in Cuba as well as other environmentally friendly techniques, provide a source of income to local families while bringing dignity and a sense of purpose to fishermen communities. Located in Zapata Peninsula, in Cuba’s Matanzas Province, Ciénaga de Zapata National Park encompasses over one million acres and is part of the biosphere preserve by the same name, the largest protected area
104
in the entire Caribbean. Access to the national park is restricted, only those accompanied by local fishermen are allowed in, and despite the vastness of the area, fishing is limited to just 10 anglers per day on the flats of Las Salinas, and only 4 anglers in Hatiguanico River, to ensure the sustainability of the fisheries and a memorable angling experience for visitors. LAS SALINAS Bonefish in Las Salinas average 3 to 4 pounds, but larger specimens of up to 6 pounds are encountered regularly. In addition to the bones, mangrove and cubera snapper are also plentiful, especially near the mangroves and in deeper holes, mutton snapper frequently move in from the ocean to forage on the flats —following rays, and sometimes tailing in skinny water, much like permit, another likely species. LAS BOCAS: Variety is the name of the game at the series of openings connecting the protected bays of Las Salinas with the open ocean — known locally as “Las Bocas” (the mouths). That’s where a number of reef and pelagic species, including mutton, cubera, mangrove, school-master and yellowtail snapper, Spanish mackerel, various jacks and groupers, and big sharks and barracuda, converge on several deep, narrow channels
to feed during certain stages of the tides. Small mangrove islands adjacent to channels host schools of juvenile tarpon, ranging from 8 to 20 pounds. Deep pools between some of the islands often harbor more than 100 of these tarpon, which give themselves away by suspending near the surface and rolling periodically to gulp air. Cast a small popper or slider in front of them, and watch mayhem unfold. HATIGUANICO RIVER: A 45-minute drive from Playa Larga, but still located within Ciénaga de Zapata National Park, Hatiguanico is a spring-fed coastal river with tall tree lines on both banks and stretches as much as 30 feet deep, where visiting anglers equipped with weighted flies and sinking lines stand a good chance to hook up with large tarpon of 60- to 100-pounds. And some truly big snook lurking under the overhanging brush along the river banks might spice things up at any moment. TOP AVAILABLE SPECIES Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, Cubera Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Permit, Mutton Snapper, Barracuda, Sharks. THE BOATS A variety of boats are available, a fleet of modern 16- and 17-foot flats skiffs powered by 30 and 60 hp outboards, respectively, floats ready for action under a covered dock. The flats boats are all equipped with poling platforms, push poles, dry storage, and sizeable casting decks. You could also find original handmade boats built by the local fishermen. For Hatiguanico River, we use 17-foot aluminum boats powered by outboards and equipped with electric trolling motors to get within casting range of the fish as quietly as possible. THE GUIDES Our project supports local experts who have been fishing the region for over 10 years, some more than 20, so they know every flat, boca and creek intimately, and are eager to take you to their favorite hot spots. GETTING THERE Your trip begins with a flight to Havana, Cuba’s capital. A representative will be waiting for you after you clear Cuban Immigration and Customs to take you to Playa Larga, a 2 hour drive, so you can get an early start for your first day of fishing in Las Salinas or Hatiguanico River the next day. Otherwise, you’ll overnight in Havana, and a representative will pick you up the next morning and take you to Playa Larga then.

ust the fact of leaving a dark winter sky behind, falling asleep on a comfortable Emirates flight and waking up in the early morning with the sun and sea breeze is already a good way to start a journey. Furthermore, if less than one hour later you find yourself heading for the southern Maldivian atolls onboard a wonderful yacht, it is then you realize that an unforgettable holiday is about to start. And so, it was like that. We dedicated as little time as possible to arranging our things in the cabins, since we really could not stay below deck as we left Malè
116
behind us. We sat at the prow, sipping a brimming cup of American coffee and took our the first photos, enchanted by the colours of a sea which seemed unreal. In the late afternoon after navigating for a few hours, the Captain of the "Duke of York" turned off the engines. The boat still glided for another hundred meters lapping over small waves, before the crew anchored just in front of a strip of sand left exposed by the low tide. The rods were already ready, as we had mounted them and adjusted the drag of the sturdy reels even before we unpacked our stuff in the cabin. The clothing we stuffed into our luggege consisted of bare minimum, so the 20 kg allowed on intercontinental flights was basically
given over to our equipment and endless boxes of flies, lines, reels, nine-foot #10 and #12 rods as well as solid tippets. Ben, our expert guide, gave us the last necessary suggestions before going ashore. For some of us it was the first experience at sea, which immediately turned out to be anything but easy. You had to cast far and strip very rapidly with both hands while recovering the line in a basket, then start all over again. All this was just a prelude, however, since the real fishing would start the day after and continue on the following days. Let’s say that the first approach on the sea was the training ground for the challenges that awaited us. While the sun was setting, we went on board again, had dinner and fell asleep, tired but happy. It was soon daylight and we had breakfast at 6.30 and were ready at 7.00. A guide’s help was essential in knowing the tides and moon phases that influence fishing. We walked slowly in a semicircle on a strip of golden sand as a dark shadow fluttered slowly at 20 meters. One of us quickly pulled out his lines and cast perfectly just behind it. After only a second, we heard a scream of joy and saw the line stretch tight and cut the water: behind a ray there is always a GT. The fight lasted about ten minutes. The strength of this fish was incredible: it was so wild that it alternated trying to escape with abrupt change direction, risking to break the leader. We looked at the scene and waited to take some photos that would become the irrefutable proof that the first angler to catch a fish would offer a round of drinks to the whole company. Every day was the same, but incredibly different: the shape of flats, micro-islets of sand appearing and disappearing with
117

the tides, the barrier reef on the horizon towards which we slowly walked with our eyes peeled for anything, waiting to glimpse a jerk, a shadow, a fin. There was one, about 20 meters on the right. You froze then and there, and the sea, wind, and your heart also froze. In that moment there was no time to think and you just had one chance, so you took the gamble with one cast: it’d better be good or you would have blown you chance. In the evening on board the Conte Max, it was party time again. After a swim, some jokes, aperitifs and a plentiful and refined dinner, we prepared for the next day, checked the time of the tides and organized our equipment. Our pleasant travel companions, who were early-risers like us, also went snorkelling and for walks on a desert island. They also lived some unforgettable moments on a sunny day which was apparently like any other. Although we continuously walked and fished for hours, we never felt tired, in spite of the sun and heat, which we tried to cope with by diving now and then into the water up to our hats to cool off. I cast with confidence and after a while a terrible strike bent my rod, while meters of line flew out of my hands. After five, perhaps seven or eight second but not more, I thought I had hooked a motorboat. It was so fast, and then came an abrupt jerk and a dull pop. The line was dangling loosely, I let my rod fall into the water and screamed in anger or probably in awe of that gorgeous king of this enchanting habitat, who was braver, quicker and stronger than me. The Giant Trevally is called the "come back" fish, as catching it gives you such strong emotions that you must come back to fish it again. Or maybe, as in this case, losing it makes you so upset that you can’t wait to try again.

ood dorado fishing on the ParanĂĄ and Uruguay river systems depends on many factors and among the most important are water levels, migrations of bait fish, rain and fishing pressure. Why not have a mothership that could be a comfortable “floating lodgeâ€?mothership, able to provide anglers with first class lodging and services, while providing the opportunity of moving to different waters according to fishing conditions, bait fish migration, and at the same time reach very remote areas with no anglers around? The mothership is a very comfortable catamaran that is 22 meters long, 8 meters wide, with 3 decks. On the first or lower level there are 4 very comfortable twin-bedded cabins with en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and heating, 24hr electricity and TV. The second level has a spacious living room and dining room as well as a kitchen galley, outside there is a deck to relax and enjoy the beautiful views of the river. To reach the mothership, anglers usually arrive at Buenos Aires where a representative of the Golden Dorado River Cruiser pick them up either at international or local airports or at a hotel in Buenos Aires. From there, a 2.5-hour drive will bring them to a private Marina where the trip starts. Upon arrival, guests are welcome by staff and shown to their rooms, after that they will be served drinks and appetizers. The captain gives an introductory talk describing fishing conditions, areas that guests will fish. Then there is a general presentation of several details regarding tackle, flies, etc. The floating lodge has a vast array of tackle available to guests as well as a small fly shop supplied with most
122
things anglers would need, plus personally-tied dorado flies. On the first day, it is possible for anglers to get in a good half-day of fishing, which is a good warm-up session after maybe a long trip. The daily schedule is usually breakfast at 8 am with a good selection of coffee, tea, yoghurt, milk, cereal, toast, fresh fruit and juice, as well as eggs cooked in whatever way guests like. After breakfast, guests
leave in pairs with their guides for the morning fishing session. Guests of Golden Dorado River Cruiser Program fish in the huge Paranรก river delta, also known as the Upper Delta. This enormous area is the second biggest delta in south America after the Amazon. This unique river system has a very large and complex system of marshlands, lagoons, tributaries, creeks, islands, etc. which acts as big filter making its waters much clearer than those of the main Paranรก and Uruguay rivers. ecosystem enjoys probably the largest migrations of bait fish, tarpon and sardines, which are the main food source of golden dorado, as well as of other predatory fish like the Chafalote (in the Paraná river, Payara fish), Palometa, Surubi (big catfish), PiraPitá, Wolf Fish, Pacú and other excellent game fish that make fishing very varied and entertaining. The best fishing period is usually from September to May, although
124
the Golden Dorado River Cruiser Program runs all the year round and it is common to have a good fishing even during the winter months. During these months, anglers usually fish with floating lines and dry flies, poppers and mouse patterns for very aggressive surface strikes. Dorado are extremely aggressive hunters. If you put in a good cast close to spots such as runs and riffle waters or in inlets and outlets of creeks and lagoon blowouts, chances are your fly will be wildly attack by Dorado.
When looking for big fish, it is common to fish deeper waters, sometimes with sinking tips and black streamers aimed at attracting bigger fish. The most common flies are a variety of deceivers with dumbbell eyes of different weights. A classic dorado fly is the “Andino Deceiver, created by the famous Argentinian fly-tyer and designer Carlos Ingrassia, who created this pattern in the 80s and which continuing to influence dorado fishing in Argentina even today. It is also important to have a good
selection of poppers, titanic flies, mouse patterns and pole dancers if you want to do some of the best freshwater fishing found anywhere. I feel that this program, combining some of the best dorado fishing and other fantastic game fish, while enjoying the unique setting of a mothership lodging surrounded by nature at its best, makes for a very special trip for any kind of guest: both for hardcore experienced anglers and newcomers to the sport, as well as all family members.

f fly-fishing were considered a religion, then Alaska would be its holy sanctuary. Fly-Fishing in Alaska is more than just a sport or passion, it’s a way of life. Once you have been bitten by the bug, you’re “hooked”. A trip to Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge provides you with some of the most remote and stunningly beautiful locations on the
128
planet. My father always told me, it’s about being outdoors and on the river. Catching a fish is just a bonus. Well in Alaska, I have to constantly remind myself to stop and appreciate the scenery because the fishing is so great. When discussing fishing, you may have heard the saying “it’s called fishing not catching”. But at ATA Lodge it can often seem like
catching. For many, Alaska has always been a dream destination, somewhere they envision going to only once in a lifetime. But once you get up here and experience what it has to offer, it will be hard to stay away. There is something about catching a huge Alaskan rainbow trout or salmon, surrounded by beauty beyond compare, that strikes something deep in all of us. South-western Alaska is the sanctuary of fly-fishing. Whether it be the sensation of a 35+lbs King Salmon pushing a double-handed rod to its limits, or seeing a 26-inch rainbow trout rise to crush a mouse pattern tied the previous evening, or just the feeling that no one has ever fished these beautiful waters before. It has to be said that fishing in Alaska is something very special. It brings us back to the reason why we started fishing in the first place. For the fun of it, for the thrill of a tight line and the sound of a reel drag screaming. It's for the laughter when your friend losing the fish of a lifetime, because in the heat of the moment he forgot to let go off the reel as "the-one-that-gotaway took off downstream. Situated on the remote banks of the wild and scenic Alagnak River, Alaska Trophy Adventures Lodge is the perfect wilderness fishing retreat. Our lodge consists of 160 acres of prime river frontage, located in the most iconic section of the Alagnak known as the Upper Braids. It is accessible only via bush plane, landing on a private airstrip on the

All the guest cabins, including main lodge, have spectacular views of the Alagnak River. The dining lodge with lounge sofas, a fireplace and a stunning view of the river and mountains is the centre piece of the camp. It's where we have our meals, share stories and socialize after a day on the river. This building is the town hall of our little village. Wooden walkways connect all our private guest cabins (8) to each other and lead down to our naturally sheltered dock where a fleet of jet boats are ready to access all the best fishing spots within minutes from the lodge. The Swiss Chalet on the hill, is perfect for larger parties accommodating up to 8 guests comfortably and in style, not to mention the “Million Dollar View”, where you can overlook the rest of the property, river and mountains. The Alagnak River flows through a wild land of captivating landscapes, abundant wildlife, and cultural heritage. Meandering down the braided river, you may discover a bald eagle perched atop a spruce tree, gaze at a moose browsing along the river bank in the wet sedge tundra, or encounter a brown bear feasting upon spawning salmon. For centuries people have lived along the Alagnak and have depended on the rich natural resources for survival. The Alagnak River’s wildlife and the abundant fish make the river the most sought-after destination for sport fishing in southwest Alaska.

nown for its big pikes and zanders, Lake Sibbo is situated between Trosa and Nyköping, only 25 minutes from the airport of Skavsta (Ryanair). This lake has been known for centuries as one of the best lakes with extremely high potential of big pikes up to 130 cm and super size zanders (pike perch) and perch. The lake is situated in the beautiful surroundings of the 17th century Björksund Castle and is connected to the Baltic Sea by a narrow channel. Fish migrate through the channel out to the fat herring shoals into the Baltic and that is one reason why Lake Sibbo pikes get so big! The lake is also known for its massive shoals

of perch. Here you have a super chance to get your personal best. The lake and the fishing are private and Big Fish Sweden has the exclusive fishing rights, which makes the fishing pressure very controlled and the fishing experience unique! Daily catches of 10-40 pikes are common and there are also real big zanders (8-10 kg) and a lot of perch. This is unusual for Sweden where most waters have a high fishing pressure. In the lake we have aluminium boats by Starcraft Alaskan 15 foot with 15 hp Honda, frontmounted Minnkota Edge with pedals, double batteries and Humminbird Helix-5 sonar/fishfinders. All boats have anchors, sea
charts, rubber nets, measure boards, weight slings and you can always rent a float vest. Our pro staff will meet you on the lake and show you a couple of hot spots to get started. Also where and how to charge your Minnkota batteries when you stay for more than one day. You can also update your equipment in our tackle store. ACCOMODATIONS: Sibbo House: By the water in Bjรถrksund Castle park, we have two apartments of total 150 sqm (4 beds in one, 3 beds in the other). Sibbo House, a 17th century house with shower & wc in each
apartment, bedrooms, big kitchens, living room, tv, free Wi-Fi. The house lies only 20 meters from Lake Sibbo and only 100 meters from the boats. BALTIC HOUSE is situated between Lake Sibbo and the Baltic Sea just by the Sibbo Channel, it can host up to 6-8 people. It is a big red house with 3 bedrooms on the top floor, showers, toilet, fully equipped kitchen, dining room with a fireplace, tv room, terrace with bbq grill, free wi-fi. It is 5 minutes far from Bjรถrksund Castle and the boats.

t was like striking gold when we found this pike paradise: Wild Lake Lodge in the Lapponian wilderness. Big and small lakes with pikes who have never seen a pike fly or a popper and that will attack without hesitation. This is a true topwater paradise and there are really big and strong fish in extremely shallow water. The water in Lapponian lakes and rivers are clear and drinkable. There are no factories, no highways and high mountains have snow nearly all year around. This makes water temperature ideal for fishing in June, July and August. In the lakes you can fish for pikes, perch, grayling, arctic char, whitefish & brown trout. Sami culture offers wilderness, northern lights and midnight sun, wild reindeer and traditional sami culture with knives and handicraft. This is really close to the polar circle (30 minutes drive from the camp) and you can also enjoy mushroom picking and berries in the gigantic woods. Rivers are 10/30 minutes drive from the lodge where you can fish trout and grayling. If you are into hiking, there are lakes up in the mountains with arctic char, if you wish we can also arrange transport by helicopter. Our lakeside lodge is situated by the biggest lake system in Lapponia with over 120 km of waters, mainly shallow and with some rivers in between the lakes. The lodge can host up to 6 guests and we have full board catering with homemade food. The nearest airport is about 1 hour drive or if you want to fly to Kallax Airport it will take about 3,5 hours by car. Both airports have a car rental service. In the big lake by the lodge we have aluminium boats, Marine 450 with 15 hp Honda and prop guards, as the lakes are filled with stones and rocks. Lowrance HDS 5 gps/sonars with charts over the lakes, Minnkotas, anchors and fishing licenses. If you like adventure, the camp has float tubes for expeditions to small or big waters, swamps and creeks. Here you have a real chance to fish unexploited virgin waters.
