HOW WILL HABIB UNIVERSITY SUPPORT ME IN MAINTAINING THE CGPA REQUIRED TO RETAIN MY SCHOLARSHIP?

HU helps students in a variety of ways to achieve academic excellence and maintain their CGPA: Each student is assigned an Academic Advisor who helps students to identify and use appropriate academic support services if a student is struggling in any academic area. Office of Academic Performance provides individualized academic support services to students, as per their needs, through its following centers and services • The EHSAS Center (Educational Help Services and Academic Support) provides academic support through workshops, discussions, peer tutoring, faculty tutorials and one-on-one sessions. • The Writing Center helps students enhance their reading and writing skills. You can book a time with a writing tutor to get individualized help. • Academic Counseling helps students with the development of soft skills such as time management, recognizing learning styles, note taking, study skills etc. In case students are not able to maintain their CGPA in any semester, they will be given a probationary period (one semester) to improve their performance and achieve the desired CGPA. FINANCIAL AID HABIB UNIVERSITY’S

FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM HU FINANCIAL AID

The Financial Aid Program aims to ensure equal opportunities for all; in addition to applying for HU Scholarships, students may apply for financial aid simultaneously. . Habib University’s Financial Aid Program offers generous grants and helps students acquire loans through external institutes. The amount of financial aid awarded depends on the needs of admitted students. Habib University offers personalized financial aid plans in order to assist each admitted student as per his/her financial needs and circumstances.

GRANTS

These funds are awarded based on need assessed through the Financial Aid Application at the time of admission. Grants are subject to an annual review of a student’s financial circumstances and do not need to be repaid during, or after, completing the four-year undergraduate degree at HU. A Grant is not a Loan.

DEFERRED FEE PLAN

Habib University has designed a special Deferred Fee Plan to facilitate the students to pay some part of their university fee after completing their undergraduate education from the University. It allows students to pay for their higher education from their own earning and demonstrate their personal responsibility towards their education and growth. Deferred Fee Plan is not governed by any ‘loan policy’ as it is not loan. It is a form of facilitation provided to students and their families to pay the University fee over an extended time period, instead of paying the required fee during the four years of undergraduate studies. No interest is applied on re-payment amount. Other than the deferred fee amount, additional 3% administrative charges are applied per annum. The Deferred Fee Plan amount should not be considered a liability for the following reasons: • Habib University facilitates students in acquiring jobs so that they can start repaying their Deferred Fee • Students graduating from the University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 will have their complete deferred fee waived off. • You can start paying your Deferred Fee during your study at Habib University by participating in the student employment program. The Program will provide you with an opportunity to do paid work, at a maximum of 20 hours per week. The remuneration will be adjusted against your Deferred Fee Plan. • You will be expected to start paying back your Deferred Fee 6 months after graduation. This will give you ample time to start earning. The payment period is approximately five years and can be extended as per need • If you plan to go for further studies after completing your undergraduate education, your Deferred Fee payment plan will be deferred till the time you complete your graduation

FACILITATION FOR STUDENT LOAN

As part of our Financial Aid Program, Habib University may also facilitate students in acquiring student loans through various external institutes including banks. The loans will be governed by the rules and regulations of the individual institutes. Details are shared with the students and their parents/guardians, while finalizing their fee package, at the time of admission.

FINANCIAL AID STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

Though student employment is not a formal part of a student’s financial aid package, it offers an opportunity for students to earn money through our Student Employment Program. Students participating in the program are employed on campus for an agreed period of time and are paid an hourly wage for their work. The payment is adjusted against their payable fee. The Student Employment Program provides a valuable learning experience for students. They learn to balance different responsibilities at a time, understand professional work ethics, enhance their technical skills as per the nature of employment, build interpersonal skills and gain confidence. Student employment opportunities may include engaging as a Peer Tutor or a Teaching Assistant, working in the HU Library in a variety of jobs, participating in marketing activities and assisting Student Marketing and Recruitment or Admissions with various tasks. Student Employment options are offered to students in their second semester provided they demonstrate a satisfactory performance in the first semester. In order to retain their student employment positions, they need to maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.33 every semester. You can find more information regarding financial aid at www.habib.edu.pk/admissions/student-finance/scholarship-faqs/

QARZ-E-HASNA:

INTEREST FREE LOAN FACILITY BY IHSAN TRUST

In order to enhance our Financial Aid Program and facilities, Habib University has collaborated with Ihsan Trust, a non-profit organization, to provide prospective students access to interest-free loans. Ihsan Trust aims to facilitate and enable students with financial limitations to pursue quality higher education in Pakistan in the form of interest-free loans through their Qarz-e-Hasna program. Through the Qarz-e-Hasna program, Ihsan Trust bears the educational expenses of students based on their need and merit combined in order to enable them to complete their Higher Education. The amount of Qarz-e-Hasna allocated to eligible students depends on their financial need. During their studies, students have to pay a nominal amount (depending upon the financial position of the candidates and their parents'/guardians' monthly incomes) to Ihsan Trust as repayment. The repayment amount of the Qarz-e-Hasna loan will be adjusted according to the student's income after completion of their education at Habib University. HOW IS FINANCIAL AID DETERMINED AND ALLOCATED? Financial aid is determined after a thorough review of each case. Our goal is to treat students fairly, while still maintaining the flexibility required in order to recognize special circumstances. There are various factors that the Office of Student Finance considers while evaluating a student’s application, including living expenses based on household size, taxes paid by his/her family, medical expenses, educational expenses of siblings, family’s assets, and/or any special circumstances. These factors help us in estimating your family’s potential contribution to your education. If the estimated contribution is less than the cost of attending Habib University, you will be offered financial aid.

FINANCIAL AID IS FINANCIAL AID AWARDED FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM OR IS IT FOR A LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME?

Similar to HU Scholarships, Financial Aid is awarded for the entire duration of the undergraduate program. Student recipients of Financial Aid must fulfill the following conditions to successfully retain their financial aid award at the beginning of each semester: Enrolment as a full-time student, unless the University has approved part-time enrollment; Maintaining a minimum CGPA of 2.33 every semester; Follow the University’s policies and procedures; Good conduct standing according to HU'S Code of Conduct; No change in the financial situation of the household.

IS THERE ANY MAXIMUM OR MINIMUM RANGE FOR THE AMOUNT ALLOCATED FOR GRANTS? The amount of grants a student receives depends solely on his/her demonstrated financial need.

HOW CAN I AVAIL FOR ONE OF THE AVAILABLE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS? Students must apply for the available positions, which are advertised internally. There is an assessment process to ensure that the students possess necessary skills to perform the tasks required. If the assessment results are positive, then the students are considered for those positions.

HOW MUCH CAN I EARN THROUGH THE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM? Earnings from the Student Employment Program depend on the nature of the job and the amount of time spent. On average, if a student consistently spends 20 hours a week throughout the year, and including semester breaks, s/he can earn anywhere between PKR. 50,000 - 150,000 per year.

WHAT IS THE MODE OF PAYMENT FOR THE STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM? In general, student employment remuneration will be off-set against either the student’s tuition fee, or transport fee. No cash payment will be made except in special circumstances.
