Pre-Prep and Prep School edition Friday 27 May 2022 Summer Term
Acting Head of Prep School’s Message Mr G Thomas I cannot quite believe that we have reached the halfway point of the Summer term. The mornings are lighter, the afternoons hold off the evening longer and there have been such a huge number of wonderful opportunities for our Prep and Pre-Prep School children over the past few weeks. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our pupils for their energy, hard work and enduring sense of curiosity across so many areas of learning this half term. I am grateful to my colleagues who have worked hard to bring their enthusiasm and expertise to the fore and I would like to offer my thanks to the families of the Prep and Pre-Prep School who continue to offer their support to our whole community. For me, personally, the half term ended with a great sense of pride yesterday morning, as I toured a group of prospective parents around the Prep. As we walked into one classroom unannounced, the boys greeted our guests with typical enthusiasm and warmth before telling me the aspects of school provision that they enjoyed the most. As one pupil stood up, he composed himself and said, ‘I have a neurodiversity. I love being at Habs as my friends and teachers look after me and make me feel I can do my best.’ I was so proud of the courage, humility and integrity that the pupil displayed, and the positive environment upheld by his peers. It is this sense of community that makes Habs such a special place to be. I wish you and your loved ones a very happy and relaxing half term.

Nuts and seed snacks I M P O R TA N T N O T I C E It has come to our attention that some of our pupils are bringing in food with nuts or seeds in. We would like to draw your attention to our Nut Policy. Several of our pupils suffer very severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions to nuts or nut-based products. Pupils must not bring any nuts or nut-based products into school, nor should they have them on the coach. Please click here to read our Nut Policy.

Parking outside the Prep school NOTICE Please can parents and guardians who collect their child at the end of the school day refrain from driving up the North Drive, over the bridge and parking directly outside the Prep School. Can you please park in the designated areas either in the North Drive or the astro turf pitch. This is in the best interests of pupil, parent and staff safety.
School Community Year 3 Overnight camp
On Thursday 19 May, Year 3 had the opportunity to camp at school. Activities included archery, fire lighting, putting up tents and team building games including a special survival game involving the teachers! The evening ended with a delicious BBQ, smore making and the exciting talent show. After a buffet breakfast accompanied by a bush tucker trial, the pupils had to pack up their tents and had an engaging story teller for a workshop. Some of the pupils said: I learnt how to communicate during team activities and don’t ask a question when a teacher has a watergun! Rafi 3MJ The food was incredible because the BBQ was possibly the best I’ve ever had and during breakfast you could have as much as you wanted. Freddie 3NG The pupils were all fantastic during the camp with smiling faces throughout although there were definitely a few tired faces the next morning! Thank you to all the staff who helped out.
Year 5 Foxlease trip The Year 5 pupils had a fabulous week in Hampshire, taking part in many exciting activities. The group got to visit the New Forest Wildlife Park and saw many different animals, including otters, owls, mice and even some wolves! There was also an amazing adventure playground which was greatly appreciated by all the pupils. Cycling was one of the other activities the pupils got to experience, taking routes through the New Forest and seeing plenty or horses, deer and rabbits. One of the most favourite experiences amongst the group was lazer tag! This was great fun and pupils had to problem solve as they faced different elements. Pupils also got to visit Butler’s Hard, a museum about shipbuilding and ship life plus, in the evening, they got to experience tunnelling! This required pupils to work their way through an underground maze. This wasn’t the only evening fun, though, as there was also a campfire experience! A huge thank you to Foxlease who were wonderful hosts and to the Habs staff who organised and attended the trip.
Year 1 Picnic with Habs Girls’ Year 1 pupils hosted a picnic with Haberdashers’ Girls Junior School. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their picnic together and chatted about Year 1 life across both schools. After lunch, the pupils took a leisurely walk through the woodland trail and appreciated the beautiful nature along the way. We hope to organise another picnic again very soon!
EPSCA Chess competition On Sunday 22 May, 12 pupils participated in the semi-finals of the National Primary Schools Chess Competition. The U11 team consisting of: Charlie (5NB), Veer (5EF), Kanishk (6MN), Aarav (6SA), Rohan (6SA) and Rahul (6RP) finished in 1st place out of 18 schools and have qualified for the finals. Congratulations to all the pupils for their achievements and for how they represented the school.
Sports HabsDash
Mrs Adat and Joseph have completed their 100 miles of HabsDash. To mark this occasion Mr Broadwith came to present the Habsdash “Hats” for this achievement, it was a very happy and joyous celebration. Since Mrs Adat started Habsdash it has taken one and a half years to complete and Mrs Adat would like all boys to have a go at running and enjoying HabsDash. Xander has also achieved an all years best by completing HabsDash in 13 mins and 42 sec which is a remarkable achievement and has placed him 3rd in the whole Prep and Senior School. We are so very proud of him in the Prep.
