Cornflower Assembly

1 July

Friday afternoon assemblies are always a time of joy and celebration in the Junior School. Our weekly Cornflower Assembly celebrates individuals who have particularly demonstrated ways in which they have embodied our school values: Courage, Curiosity, Community and Ambition. Without fail, the pupils in our school community celebrate the successes of their peers, as well as take time to reflect on the ways in which they have, themselves, taken risks, wondered why, supported others and aimed high. We all love Cornflower Assemblies, and hope that you enjoy celebrating weekly with us too.

Ambition

We set our sights high in terms of what we want to achieve as individuals and as a community, in and outside the classroom, aspiring to achieve our full potential in whatever we put our minds to.

Community

Since we were founded, we have had an inherent responsibility to our diverse internal and wider community and continue to dedicate ourselves to nurturing it and supporting each other to be our best selves.

Courage

We believe in the courage to face challenge, embrace opportunity and step out of our comfort zones to grow and become our best selves, whilst also having courage in our conviction, remaining true to our moral compass and what we believe is the right thing to do.

Curiosity

In a diverse world, we believe that growth comes from not standing still. We are driven by an unending desire to learn and improve, not standing still and having an open and enquiring mind to anything we face.

Years 5 and 6 Author visit - Alexandra Hart and Phoebe Sleeman

Last Friday OH Phoebe Sleeman and Alex Hart returned to Habs to talk to Year 5, Year 6 and Lower 4th pupils about their first novel Alight which was published this Spring. The pair had the idea for their magical fantasy, and began writing it, when they were still students at Habs. Our Junior pupils enjoyed a sneak preview of the book and hearing about Alex and Pheobe’s experiences in writing and publishing.

Rainbow KidZania Trip

On Friday 1 July, Rainbow visited KidZania for their second school trip of the year. Rainbow had great fun exploring the KidZania town, earning and spending money whilst learning different skills and performing different jobs. We learnt how to fire fight, present the news, how to be a vet and even worked as police officers and doctors! It was a lot of fun role playing these different careers and Rainbow had a wonderful day.

Year 6 Leavers’ Assembly and Leavers’ Party

Year 6 had a memorable last Monday of term! They started the morning with their Leavers’ Assembly, sharing some of their favourite memories from the Junior School, and celebrating the friendships they have made over the years by performing their own version of ‘Count on me’ by Bruno Mars. In the afternoon, it was party time and the Performance Space was transformed into a special disco for our Year 6 students to dance the afternoon away together with their friends. Good luck Year 6 – we will miss you all here in the Junior School!

Junior School Summer Concert

The Summer Music Concert was a wonderful way to end the school year. We were treated to a range of styles, including music by Taylor Swift, Tchaikovsky, Coldplay, Gershwin, Handel, LinManuel Miranda and John Williams. 13 ensembles including pupils from Year 3 to 6 took part and the concert also featured nine soloists from Year 5 and 6. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall, with celebratory applause after every item. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Congratulations!
