BEAUTIFUL
RUSSIAN ORTHODOX
ICONS May 6th to May 30th, a rare opportunity to purchase exquisite Orthodox icons from a private collection is offered by the Hellenic-American Cultural Center & Museum throughout the month of May. Ken Shores, retired Lewis & Clark College professor of art, has collected these beautiful icons over more than 40 years. Of the 28 icons on display in the Museum’s annual May exhibit, most are icons painted in the 19th century that are almost impossible to find now. In addition, the May exhibit displays early works from the HACCM collection of paintings by Marguerite Frances Sylvia. The artist lived 10 years in a village on the Greek island of Lesbos and developed a unique style that not only captured on canvas the people she knew in Molivos but preserved its special way of life. To see more paintings from the Sylvia collection and learn more about this extraordinary artist’s life, visit www.hellenicamericancc.org During May, the beautiful Orthodox icons are available for purchase to benefit the Museum. Although none of the original Sylvia paintings are for sale, the Museum has permission to offer Limited Edition Giclee prints of any painting from the collection. These prints are made-to-order fine art reproductions on canvas suitable for framing. Details are available at the Museum or on the website.
