HACR INTERIM PRESIDENT & CEO’S MESSAGE Dear HACR Symposium Participants, On behalf of the HACR Board of Directors and staff of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR), I would like to welcome you to sunny San Diego, CA for the 22nd Annual HACR Symposium: The Power of Hispanic Inclusion™. The Annual HACR Symposium will feature an array of conversations, with some of the Hispanic community’s most prominent subject matter experts, examining the challenges related to the lack of Hispanic inclusion across boardrooms and C-Suites in Corporate America. During the event, we will have great speakers and programs, including a C-Suite roundtable with top-level executives, a discussion about HACR’s longstanding partnership with the Alliance for Board Diversity, a presentation about supplier diversity best practices, and a special panel on the State of Latinos in California. LUKE VISCONTI is the Chief Executive Officer of DiversityInc Media LLC. He directs all consulting, editorial, and business operations, including the methodology for The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, now in its 14th year. His Ask the White Guy column is a top draw on DiversityInc.com. Mr. Visconti also has a combined 22 years of highereducation board experience. He is a trustee of Bennett College, a historically Black college; on the foundation board of NJCU, a Hispanic-serving institution; and a trustee and overseer of Rutgers University, where he chairs the fundraising committee for Rutgers Future Scholars, a program with 1,000 students enrolled (8th grade–12th grade). He is also on the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Committee, where he has co-chaired three subcommittees regarding diversity and women’s issues, reporting out to the Chief of Naval Operations. Mr. Visconti founded DiversityInc in 1998. He founded the DiversityInc Foundation in 2006 and has endowed scholarships at Bennett College, New Jersey City University and Rutgers University. The DiversityInc Foundation has distributed more than $800,000 since 2006. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University.

The Institute is devoted to objective research, analysis and publication of Hispanic-related issues in Corporate America. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. MICHAEL DOMINGUEZ with more than 28 years of experience is Senior Vice President for MGM Resorts International. He provides oversight of sales strategies in the MICE, leisure and transient segments, including industry relations, diversity sales, and MGM Resorts Events & Production Services. Additionally, he offers strategic oversight for the company’s vertical sales efforts, managing the strategy for global sales offices in Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, New Jersey, Arizona, the Mid-Atlantic, Phoenix, and Canada, overseeing the development and execution of a company-wide sales strategy for top destination accounts. He currently serves as the chairman-elect on the

International Board of Directors for Meeting Professionals International. Ms. Lang earned an AB degree in History and Literature from Radcliffe College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. She is married and the mother of three adult children.

ILENE H. LANG is the former President & CEO of Catalyst. After over 10 years leading the organization, she stepped down in January 2014 and was appointed an Honorary Director. Under Ms. Lang’s leadership, Catalyst’s revenue doubled, membership tripled, brand awareness quadrupled, and the number of Catalyst research reports and knowledge products increased tenfold. To sustain that growth, Ms. Lang continues to work with Catalyst as a Senior Advisor. Ms. Lang was named to the Global Agenda Council on Women’s Empowerment at the World Economic Forum, and she is a member of the National Board Development Committee of the Girl Scouts of the USA. In 2013 she was awarded the Foreign Policy

RONALD C. PARKER is President and CEO of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC). He became a member in 1994 and has served on both the council and foundation boards. Mr. Parker recently retired from his post as Senior Vice President for Human Resources, Labor Relations, and Global Diversity and Inclusion at PepsiCo, where he worked for nearly 30 years. His involvement with succession planning, workforce analysis, and developing the cultural competency of PepsiCo’s leaders forms a base of experience that complements ELC’s goals to place more black executives in C-Suites and on public company boards, and developing the next generation of global black leaders. Mr. Parker is a board member of Baylor Regional Medical Center and the YWCA of Metropolitan Dallas. He earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Texas Christian University where he now serves on the International Board of Visitors and the Board of Trustees.

BUSINESS SESSION: INCREASING SUPPLIER DIVERSITY CHALLENGES, OPPORTUNITIES, AND BEST PRACTICES How can we better leverage, strengthen, and develop Hispanic suppliers? Those are questions we are often asked by participants of HACR’s Corporate Inclusion Index (CII). To better be able to answer these questions the HACR Research Institute has undertaken a special project focusing on the challenges, opportunities, and best practices for increasing supplier diversity. Annual HACR Symposium participants will be able to engage with the panelists through a Q&A session immediately following the panel session.

DR. LISETTE GARCIA joined the staff of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) in September 2012, revitalizing the role of Director, HACR Research Institute and charting a strategic plan and roadmap for the Institute. In addition to managing HACR’s Corporate Inclusion Index and Corporate Governance Study, Dr. Garcia takes the lead in facilitating the organization’s investigative projects and developing new programs and research studies aimed at strengthening HACR’s reputation as the key source for information on Hispanic inclusion in Corporate America. A trained researcher with a Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University, Dr. Garcia has dedicated her career to exploring educational and employment issues within the realm of corporate social responsibility, discrimination, and diversity and inclusion. Garcia has published several articles on employment discrimination and Latino educational attainment in scholarly journals.

RON ALVARADO is a Partner and Chief Administrative Officer of SBM Management, a company primarily involved in the facilities maintenance service business throughout the United States, Canada, and Central America. For more than 20 years, Mr. Alvarado’s ownership role as Chief Administrative Officer includes the responsibility to provide executive level management in the administration and growth of SBM and oversee and direct the real estate holdings of the company’s partnership.

In addition to her doctoral degree, she holds an M.S. in Sociology from Virginia Tech and dual undergraduate degrees from Penn State in Sociology and Labor and Industrial Relations. She is a proud recipient of the NCID Exemplary Diversity Scholar Citation for her contributions in diversity-related research, practice, and teaching.

Ron received his B.A. from Seattle University and his master’s from the Monterey Institute. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the Lambda Alpha International Land Economics Society. CAREN R. BOWMAN began her career with AT&T in 1984 and has experience in large and small business sales, business marketing, and supply chain inclusion. Ms. Bowman currently serves as a Diversity Sourcing Manager, managing AT&T sourcing opportunities for a number of AT&T’s largest minority suppliers, and shares responsibility for nationwide new business development outreach. She is an active mentor in the American Corporate Partners (ACP) program. ACP is a nationwide program dedicated to helping veterans transition from the Armed Services to the civilian workforce.

She is also a committed fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and a ‘Team in Training’, Marathon, and Century Alumni. Ms. Bowman brings a strong educational background to AT&T’s Supplier Diversity organization with advanced studies in International Business and an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics. She continues her education by attending AT&T University training in the areas of Leadership, Communication, and Development. LUCIA MAGDALENO is the Supplier Diversity Manager for Global Procurement at MGM Resorts International. She manages the company’s supplier diversity efforts throughout the corporation’s 15 hotels and casinos in Nevada, Michigan, and Mississippi. Ms. Magdaleno is a liaison between qualified diverse suppliers and procurement verticals. She manages tracking systems and reporting of all supplier diversity spends. She is a graduate of the MGM Resorts Aspire Management academy and serves as a Club Ride Program Coordinator and Green Corps Captain for the corporate offices, past treasurer of the Las Vegas Supplier Diversity Roundtable and member of the NMSDC’s Advertising, Entertainment, Media & Sports industry group, and has a certificate of completion from Rutgers University in Supplier Diversity.

MODERATOR JOHANA SUÁREZ is an Emmy® Awardwinning journalist, who currently anchors Telemundo 52 KVEA’s weekend newscast and the public affairs show Enfoque Los Angeles. She has been awarded 11 Emmy® awards for various stories in a wide range of subjects, including: health, cultural, instructional educational, program discussion, continuing coverage, and for a documentary. In 2012 she won a Northern California regional Emmy® award for Best Anchor in Spanish language. She also has been recognized for her moderator role in the political and public affairs show Voz Y Voto, with an award by the California State Senate. Recently she was awarded a scholarship and successfully completed the

2011 Scripps Howard Immigration Training Program administered by the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. She has a B.A. in Communications Studies and is currently studying for a master’s in International Relations/Conflict Resolution with a concentration in Latin America’s security issues.

PANELIST JAVIER C. GOIZUETA is Vice President at The Coca-Cola Company and President of their Global McDonald’s Division. He leads a worldwide organization that is responsible for building the strategic alliance with McDonald’s in more than 33,000 restaurants in over 119 countries.

Since joining the company in September 2001, Mr. Goizueta has served as Vice President, Global Still Beverages Operations and Commercialization, Vice President, Global New Business Models, and joined the Coca-Cola/McDonald’s Division in 2006 as leader of the U.S. business. In 2009, Javier became President of the global McDonald’s Division. Mr. Goizueta serves on The Goizueta Foundation Board of Directors, Woodruff Arts Center Board of Trustees, Emory University Board of Trustees, Notre Dame University’s Institute for Latino Studies Advisory Council, and the Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities Executive and Capital Campaign Committees. DIANA CAMPOAMOR For more than 20 years, Diana Campoamor has grown a small network of funders, Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP), from a volunteer group of advocates into a transnational philanthropic network. Ms. Campoamor has served on a number of boards, including the Council on Foundations and Independent Sector. She currently serves on the board of Futuro Media and the International Planned Parenthood Federation for the Western Hemisphere, where she is a member of the Allocations Committee with a special focus on Haiti. Trained as a journalist, Ms. Campoamor holds a B.A. from the University of Florida and a master’s degree from the University of Miami.

HELEN TORRES is the Executive Director of Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE). Ms. Torres has more than 20 years of alliance building, community relations, marketing, and fundraising experience and expertise. She is currently serving as the Chair of California Volunteers a statewide commission focused on volunteerism, is Vice-Chair of the Zero Divide Foundation, and is a member of the Alliance of a Better Community board. Ms. Torres is a sought out speaker on women’s issues, an advisor to key projects such as “The Shriver Report: A Women’s Nation Changes Everything” and is featured in “Life Moments for Women” a book supporting The Women’s Foundation of California. Most recently, Ms. Torres has been honored by Hispanic Lifestyle as a “Latina of Influence”, The Los Angeles Dodgers as a “Community Hero,” and The California Hispanic Chamber as “advocate” of the year. She earned a master’s degree in Urban Studies and Communications and a bachelor’s degree in Communication from Michigan State University. ARTURO VARGAS is the Executive Director of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NAELO). He also serves as Executive Director of the NALEO Educational Fund.


Prior to joining NALEO, Mr. Vargas was Vice President for Community Education and Public Policy for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF). Before that, he directed MALDEF’s National 1990 Census Program, an award-winning national outreach and public policy effort to promote a full count of the Latino population. He is also a nationally recognized expert in Latino demographic trends, electoral participation, voting rights, the Census, and redistricting. Mr. Vargas holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in History and Spanish from Stanford University.

FIDEL VARGAS is President & CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the nation’s leading provider of scholarships and services designed to give Latino students full access to the opportunities a college education can provide. Prior to joining HSF, Mr. Vargas was a founding partner of the private equity firm Centinela Capital Partners, a Managing Director with investment consultants TMG Advisors, and a Founding Principal and Managing Director of Reliant Equity Investors. He has served on numerous public

and private boards and on the Commission on Presidential Scholars under Presidents Bush and Obama. He is currently on the boards of the California Community Foundation, the Latino Donor Collaborative, and The Los Angeles Theater Center. Time Magazine named him one of the Top 50 Young Leaders in the United States. Mr. Vargas holds a B.A. from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He was a six-time, HSF scholarship recipient.

The institute endeavors to both educate the public, media, and the private sector about fellow Americans of Hispanic and Portuguese descent, and to educate Hispanics and Portuguese Americans about the options for advancement and vision of the American Dream. CUBAN AMERICAN NATIONAL COUNCIL Cuban American National Council is a nonprofit agency addressing the economic, social, and educational needs of immigrants, minorities, and individuals in need. The council delivers education, housing, and economic development services through a network of related nonprofit corporations. The CNC has employed more than 30,000 persons, created more than 1,000 new jobs, awarded more than 50 internships to needy students, published more than 60 policy papers and books, and built new housing units for more than 1,600 persons of low and moderate income. HISPANIC ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES Since its inception in 1986, HACU’s mission is to champion Hispanic success in higher education. Its fast-growing membership of 450 colleges and universities, including 50 international members, are

leaders in educational innovation and effectiveness; they serve nearly three out of every four of the more than two million Hispanic college students in the United States and enroll a combined total of more than four million college students from all walks of life. HACU offers early awareness and outreach services, a series of scholarship programs, e-mentoring, paid internships in government and the private sector, faculty development programs, leadership training for senior college administrators, national and international conferences, online talent databases with access to partners, a national HACU educational loan program (Help), and other programs and services. LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS With approximately 115,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic organization in the United States. LULAC advances the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans through community-based programs operating at more than 600 LULAC councils nationwide. LULAC councils provide more than half a million dollars in scholarships to Hispanic students each year, conduct citizenship and voter registration drives, develop low income housing units, conduct youth leadership training programs, and seek to empower the Hispanic community at the local, state, and national level. MANA, A NATIONAL LATINA ORGANIZATION MANA, founded in 1974 by Mexican American women who determined to ensure there was a voice for Latinas, organized the first nonprofit national Hispanic women’s organization in the country. MANA promotes leadership skills among Hispanic women through two key programs: The AvanZamos® Program, focused on developing leadership skills of adult Latinas, and Las Primeras®, recognizing Latinas who have been the first to succeed with excellence in their field. Other programs include The Hermanitas® Program and Madrinas®. MANA believes that if you educate a woman, educate a family, and if you educate a family, you build R


community. MANA members are dedicated volunteers who seek to not only improve themselves but to make sure the next generation has better opportunities. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC PUBLICATIONS NAHP serves to promote the interests of more than 130 member publications and provides services to more then 400 Hispanic serving publications throughout the United States. Its membership and program participants are drawn from Hispanic print media owners, seniorlevel editorial and marketing staff, news agencies and public relations firms. Founded in 1982, NAHP’s mission is to promote Hispanic media in the United States to provide incentives and opportunities for Hispanics in the media, to encourage companies to place advertisements in Hispanic publications, and to conduct research on the role and development of Hispanic media in the United States. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LA RAZA The largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United states works to improve opportunities for Hispanic Americans. NCLR reaches millions of Hispanics each year in 41 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia to achieve its mission, NCLR conducts applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy, providing a Latino perspective in five key areas – assets/ investments, civil rights/immigration, education, employment and economic status, and health. In addition, it provides capacity-building assistance to its affiliates who work at the state and local level to advance opportunities for individuals and families. NATIONAL PUERTO RICAN COALITION NPRC is a nonprofit organization representing the interest of more than seven million Puerto Rican-U.S. citizens with a membership network of more than 400 civic organizations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Its mission is to systematically strengthen and enhance the social, political, and economic well being of Puerto Ricans throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, with a special

focus on the most vulnerable. NPRC promotes awareness of the Puerto Rican community and develops emerging leaders with relevant public policy research, information, and training. NATIONAL HISPANA LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE To address the disparity of representation of Latinas in leadership positions, National Hispana Leadership Institute, a national 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, D.C., was created in 1987 in response to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Glass Ceiling Initiative. A seminal study conducted by the organization found that while minorities and women were making substantial gains in entering the workforce, they were not equally represented at the mid-and seniorlevels of management in government or corporate sectors. NATIONAL SOCIETY OF HISPANIC MBAS The National Society of Hispanic MBAs was created in 1988. NSHMBA serves 39 chapters and more than 22,500 members in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. The organization NSHMBA works to prepare Hispanics for leadership positions throughout the U.S., so that they can provide the cultural awareness and sensitivity vital in the management of the nation’s diverse workforce. UNITED STATES HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in the State of New Mexico, creating a structured organization aimed at developing a business network that would provide the Hispanic community with cohesion and strength. Since its inception, the USHCC has worked toward bringing the issues and concerns of the nation’s more than two million Hispanic-owned businesses to the forefront of the national economic agenda. Through its network of more than 215 local Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and Hispanic business organizations, the USHCC effectively communicates the needs and potential of Hispanic enterprise to the public and private sectors. UNITED STATES HISPANIC LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE The mission of the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute is to fulfill the promises and principles of democracy by empowering minorities and similarly disenfranchised groups and by maximizing civic awareness and participation in the electoral process. USHLI has developed into one of the most powerful, nationally and internationally recognized Latino organizations in the country by organizing and conducting nonpartisan voter registration and leadership development programs in 40 states.
