Lets Get One Thing

CLEAR

April 23, 2017

It isn’t very far off to say that we live in a time where thoughts of the future and what technology will be like in the world of fashion looms. We are forwad thinkers who dream of the future, which is represented in fashion trends of today. Let’s get one thing clear, transparent fashion, especially shoes, are something that have made quite the appearence in street fashion and on the Runways this spring. Of course we see this trend in streetwear, and in stores such as Fashion Nova, but thanks to the trickle down theory, this trend can be attributed to several designers such as DKNY, Carven, John Galliano, and Simone Rocha. Take a look at some of my favorite displays of these trends below.

Lets Talk Lemons

April 20,2017

Lets talks about prints. Just like any other trend, prints can be influenced by what we see happening on the runways and in high fashion. Prints can portray a mood or aesthetic of a collection, and also distinguish one collection from another. In the spring of 2017, we are currently seeing the lemon print becoming very popular amongst all types of consumers. This trend is evident in womenswear, menswear, and even childrens clothes and art. I personally love this trend. I think it is fun and playful and really can be worn on people of all ages. From a marketing point of view, this print can be very commercial, and clearly is considering it can be spotted in street style as well as on the runway. I like this trend so much, that I even own a lemon print dress myself. The print is a very classy way to incorporate something a little different or quarky into your wardrobe. The only downfall of this trend is that it is somewhat seasonal. Other than that, I think it is a great trend and very relative in Spring of 2017.

There are several reasons why all things pink are a new and up and coming trend, but a trend in society and politics could be a major cause of this one. We are living in a time in which we just got a new President, and with that, some people are unhappy and starting a movement towards feminism and equality. I think this millenial pink trend stems from people not being afraid to flaunt their femininity and being proud of being a woman. After all, “The Future is female”. Not only are these bold tints and shades of pink bold, they offer a promsing look of youth to the consumer. Pink is very playful and adds a pop of color to the wardrobe of the consumer. This explains why the trend is refered to as “millenial pink” in vogue. The millenials are contributing new ways of doing things to society with social media trends, as well as fashion. Millenials are young and stylish, so it would only make sense that designers appeal to the young and stylish with this hot, bold color. However, the millenials are not the only consumers pretty in pink, the older generations are gracing the playful color as well. Besides, who doesn’t want to appear youthful? Trends are not only limited to fashion. We see pink splattered on far more than clothing. Pink has grown extensively popular in interior desiogn. The charming color is known to promote a feeling of self apprecoation and love. It is also thought to reduce the appetite. For this,it is becoming more common to drench the walls of rooms in pink, as well as adorn spaces with pink furniture.

The Innovative Oxford March 2017 There is no doubt that we are living in a monumental time for fashion in general. However, fashion is constantly being reinvented and innovated by the season. The classic oxford that is a staple wardrobe piece for both men and women is not an exception. The basic oxford can be seen down several spring 2017 runways in countless collections. This fresh trend does not go un-noticed. The basic oxford style shirt was previously synonymous with the professional world of meetings, offices, and courtrooms. With it’s simple, crisp, button down appeal it wasn’t much of a fashionable garment....until lately, that is. The sillhouette of the shirt itself experienced great change on spring 2017 runways as well as on the streets. Self Portrait was one of several to turn the basic blue stripped oxford into an aesthetic treat to the eye with its implemented ruffles and asymetrical buttons. Monse is one of many brands that also adapted this trend in their Spring 2017 RTW collection. I have selected a garment from this collection that shows the use of the oxford shirt as a belted dress. This is a more daring approach to reinventing the oxford, but a stylish one none the less.

Loosen Your Buttons, Dear The innovative oxford trend is not only being portrayed in easily recognizable ways, but aslo more abstract sillhouettes. Claudia Li uses the oxford print and fabric to create looks shown below that are not even shirts. Her RTW collection takes inspiration for the classic shirt we all know and puts a modern twist on it. One of the pieces is an oxford inspired belted coat. This coat is very unique and I can honestly see it becoming an iconic piece in the wardrobe. The classic blue and white stripes are versatile and could be paired with many things, making it almost a neutral pattern. That is what makes this collection so phenomenal.

Denim garments are not only reserved for the runway though. If this trend matches your style, dont worry. You dont need to spend $1000 on a Phillip Plein piece, plenty of fast fashion and more commercial stores are selling this trend too. Stores such as Forever 21, Fashion Nova, and Free People have hopped on this trend.

I am a fan of this trend because it changes up how we view denim and changes the way people think they can wear denim. Its not just the basic denim jeans or denim jacket anymore. I think its smart, innovative, and modern. Also, the use of denim for these types of shapes is genius to me because denim is a nice thick fabric that can be worn in almost any type of weather. Where I am from, it is cold for 9 months out of the year and everyone wears jeans everyday because it is warm and casual. I think these full denim garments will do especially well in those colder locations . Overall, you will probably catch me and many other people wearing this trend in the spring and summer because it is a modern play on a classic fabric.

Lace Lovin’

May 5, 2017

Did someone say lace? This classic textile has always been a sexy staple in lingerie and evening wear, however, you don’t have to be in the bedroom or on the red carpet to wear it this season. Lace has made a significant appearence on the runway for spring/summer 2017 in numerous shapes, styles, and silhouettes. Although it makes for gorgeout trimmings on garments, lace was taken from the bedroom to inspre styles on the runway, along with street style. Some of my favorite examples of this trend are featured below from the collections of Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, and Francesco Scognamiglio.

Francesco Scognamiglio s/s 2017

Dolce & Gabbana s/s 2017

The lace trend is more than just the use of the textile, but inspiration taken from lingerie and more revealing night wear and brought right onto the runway. Lace has been around for centuries, and has been used in quite modest garments and accesories in the past. The use of lace in these types of sexy garments is certainly a different story. don’t worry, this trend extends far further than couture and luxury brands. It is very prominent in street wear and ready to wear as well. This is all thanks to the trickle down effect.

Somethimes things that are more risky are harder to accept and follow, but personally, i love this trend. I think it is so feminine and practical for the spring and summer season. Its another fabric that can be worn to stay cool instead of cotton or the constantly creasing linen we seem to gravitate towards. The pieces can be very versitile. A garment such as the one at the top right would be great for going on a girls night out or a musical, whereas the ensembles in the middle and left could be worn to concerts, beaches, and even coffee with a friend. The possibilites are endless with lace and I think this more revealing way of using it, almost like lingerie, is a statement piece of our time.

Show Me Your Stripes May 12, 2017

In todays world of fashion, anything goes. The old rules our mothers taught us about wearing white after labor day, or that stripes are not flattering are gone. In the spring 2017 season, bright colored stripes are scattered everywhere on the runway and in the streets. These stripes have varied in size, width, color and even direction. It is not uncommon to see stripes that run vertically and horizontally, sometimes even in the same garment. Some of my favorite looks with this trend from the Spring 2017 runway is pictured below.

Missoni S/S 17

Givenchy S/S 17

Like stated before, this trend is also very prevalent in fast fashion brands and streetwear. These stripes can possibly elude to vintage aesthetics, or maybe just to add a fun feature to the collections. After all we are living in a time of thriving social progress and these stripes might be in the collections to represent a sign of the times . If you notice, although the stripes are a basic print that have been around for a long time, we are seeing new twists being added such as thickness, color and orientation.

My personal opinion on this trend differs depending on what type of fabric the garment is made of and how the stripes are incorporated into it. I love the stripes as pictured in the fast fashion images on the second page as opposed to the stripes on the garments in the runway images. Stripes look better when they are consistent and not in contrast with other patterns. I know that pattern mixing can be very fun and appealing, however I think it is something that needs to be done strategically and carefully or it will be too much for the eye. Other than that, I think it is a nice revival of a classic pattern and something that is very commercial and versatile.

Giddy About Gingham May 25. 2017

No, I am not talking about table clothes either. Gingham is one of the hottest trends of Spring/Summer 2017. This playful, yet vintage pattern can be seen all over the runway and in streetwear in many different silhouettes and colors. This trend gives off a vintage vibe and can almost be paired with anything. Some of my favorite runway looks using this trend can be pictured below. From left to right : Altuzara, House of Holland, and Lela Rose. This print is not limited to a specific fabric either. As you can see, it has been used on everything from twill to chiffon alike.

Thanks to the trickle down theory again, this trend is fortunately not only limited to high fashion. Gingham can be spotted in plenty of fast fashion and moderately priced retailers as well. So if you are not willing to break the bank, here are a few pieces you can find in BooHoo, Fashion Nova, and JCrew.

If you ask me, this trend is very appealing and something that I would personally invest in. I do not think it is a fad by any means, and will be coming back around again and again. The gingham trend is great because even if you arn’t quite up for wearing a pair of gingham print pants, you might be more willing to wear some gingham print shoes or owning a gingham hand bag. This trend is very commercial and appealing to a wide span of target consumers.

Everyone Needs May 30, 2017

Embroidery

Embroidery is one of the many fine arts that has been around for thousands of years. Because of this, in the past when we think of embroidery, we usually think of something our grandmas once tried to teach us, but failed to grab our interest. Well ,times are changing. This beautful detail can be found on garments for the past few seasons, but especially in Spring/Summer 2017 runways. My favorite looks with this trend are featured below and from left to right are Gucci, Fendi, and Giambattista Valli.

Being that this is one of my absoulute favorite trends of the season so far, I have done some personal shopping and would like to assure you that you can get these trends for a reasonable price as well. Fast fashion retailers such as Forever 21 and Fashion Nova carry this trend, but if you want something of better quality, J.Crew and Club Monaco have your back. Left to right : Fashion Nova, J.Crew, Club Monaco.

Personally, I think this is a really fun and playful trend that can be worn on many types of garments and can have a wide target market. In terms of fashion marketing, this trend is very commercial and can be worn by all age ranges. It has also been common in mens clothing and accessories as well, proving yet again anyone can wear it. I love this trend and own many pieces myself. I hope this trend stays a while.

Without

Tassels and Puffs

May 31, 2017

Spring would be Rough

This may be one of the most youthful, colorful trend of all this Spring/Summer season. Step into any store or retail website and you are almost guranteed to find some sort of puff or tassel detail on anything from apparel to accessories. Dervied from tropicana inspiration, this cute detail has been spicing up collections on this Spring’s runway, making it’s way into couture and ready to wear alike. From left to right: Rossella Jardini, Dolce & Gabbana, and Mochi.

Tassels and puffs are a very youthful trend, which means that it has made a huge appearance in fast fashion stores as well as moderately priced retailers, usually in combination with another favorite trend, embroidery. There a few trends that are tropicana inspired, and this is one of them. Tassels and puffs are usually brightly colored. Here are a few of my favorite pieces of this trend in brands that are more accesible to those with a lower budget. Left to right: Boohoo, TopShop, and Forever21

Being that this trend is very fun and tropicana inspired, I like this trend and I do plan on wearing it. Dolce & Gabbana have really inspired many different trends this season and it shows in the details that we are seeing being used in fast fashion and moderatley priced fashion alike. Overall, I think that has been a very strong season for them and this trend is very indicitive of their Spring/Summer 2017 aesthetic.
